...

And just HOW did Futuresex do so well? o_o

explodingbird 21st September 2006 12:56 PM

Ew, SexyBack is still at #1.

Yay, Ring the Alarm and My Love are doing well. <3 those songs. And awesome on the high entry for Maneater.

Evanescence at #19.... cool, but the song should make the top 5 at least. I was disappointed that it didn't.

Good lord, Rihanna finally enters the charts... at #125. Took her long enough. It's a bit late to hope the single does well, but I do like We Ride.

I can't recall which other singles I'm checking for, except for Carrie Underwood's Before He Cheats = jumping to #56? Yes! Great, great song. #11 on the country charts - I thought it'd be higher, but everyone and their mom knows it's going to hit #1 there anyway considering how well it performed even before the video's release. Now if it could make the top 10 on the Hot 100, we'll be talking.

spookshow 21st September 2006 02:38 PM

yay! JT's album beat Beyonce in the first week of release!

truehappiness 22nd September 2006 01:20 AM

I think the cover imo was a bit more acceptable for people in America LOL

Note:

Justin Timberlake got no.1 in Australia's charts with 35k sales.

AyuGAME 22nd September 2006 03:41 AM

i love this kind of thing...thanks for the info

Mad_Cactuar 22nd September 2006 03:46 AM

JT also got #1 in the UK with over 200,000 sales but that's another story.

We Ride is the one featuring Sean Paul? Since it's Sean Paul, of course it'll do well. But #25 on the Bubbling Under is the absolute lowest. Hmm.. Beyonce's Ring The Alarm got #117 2 weeks ago, look where it is now!

My Love has great melodies but I can't stand his incredibly highhh falsetto.

Nah, Break it Off = Sean Paul + Rihanna. We Ride is just Rihanna. The video sucks (that seems to be a trend for her videos, of the few I've seen), but I figured the song would do better nowadays. I guess the Usher/Mariah midtempo R&B jam is phasing out of popularity.

Yeah, but Bee's song wasn't out as long as Rihanna's. Rihanna's single got released almost a MONTH ago and it's just now charting on Billboard. I hope she can break the Hot 100, since the song deserves it, but I'm seriously beginning to doubt it.

Mad_Cactuar 22nd September 2006 04:44 AM

Oh, I got confused. I don't like her much but I like her singles. Her voice just grates. Unfaithful gets played like CRRAZZYYYY here. Every day, every night.

Maybe her time in the limelight is up, llike the thing that happened in her last album. Pon De Replay got all the attention but subsequent singles did horribly. Also like Ciara, a gigantic flop after 3 mega-hits "Goodies", "1,2,Step" and "Oh".

I would LOVE this to happen. Hopefully more Adult/AC stuff gets on radio. Or UK music. Natasha's "Single" flopped considerably. Deservedly so, that song is pretty generic despite being catchy. Extremely foolish not to release "The One That Got Away". The success it had on the dance charts should have been enough to let her know it was an amazing choice for a single.

Rihanna's debut was practically perfect (except the Pon de Replay remix screwing up the atmosphere Now I Know left), and A Girl Like Me is cool (but enough with the midtempo, generic soundalike reggae songs, girl. One is enough. No, really, ONE IS ENOUGH), but her voice is a bit reedy and emotionless. I'm hoping it'll grow better as she gets older and practices more.

I do like the Usher/Mariah sound, BUT it also bugs me that practically every #1 on the Hot 100 tends to be either rap, hip-hop, urban, or R&B - or the horrid generic American Idol debut single (I love Idol, but the winner debut singles suck). Shakira and Rihanna managed to avoid this (because S.O.S. was straight-up dance pop), so did Daniel Powter and James Blunt... but... I dunno. Change it up.

Personally, I'd love for her to release I Bruise Easily. Or If You're Gonna....

Mad_Cactuar 22nd September 2006 05:04 AM

"I Bruise Easily" has some potential I say. Ballads seem to be more well received these days, with James Blunt getting to #1 and all. The resurgence in UK music in the past year has been amazing, a whole new batch of refreshing music was made available. I hope Utada makes an entry on the charts with the digital release of ULTRA BLUE, I really really do.

How many copies has Jessica Simpson sold and did she get to number 1?

Jess peaked at #5 and has sold 190,000 copies so far. I suppose it's not bad for these days, but I get a sinking feeling that she'll boost sales with publicity stunts again.

I really like the album a lot (although In This Skin was better), can't stand her as a person or a singer (she has a great voice but has absolutely no idea how to use it - she just moans and sighs these days. before that, all she did was SCREAM)... so I'm mixed here.

jeffycue 22nd September 2006 08:15 AM

paris is at 105?!?!?! damn... i wish it was higher! at least top 20 :(

TeamAyu 22nd September 2006 08:21 AM

Sad... that I don't like ANY of these artist or releases besides Corinne Bailey Rae. She deserves to be higher then #65 because "Put Your Records On" is a great piece. Jewel's "Good Day" deserves a place up there as well. Oh, not much I can do anyways.

pbs1605 22nd September 2006 08:31 AM

Thank you explodingbird.Top 5 is still very good.Well done Jessica.I dont think her album did very well in Australia.

pbs1605 22nd September 2006 08:32 AM

By the way.Am i the only one who does not like JT new single?

OH MY GOD. Your set is so beautiful.

Corinne Bailey Rae's album did surprisingly well eventhough it didn't have a hit single. It already went Gold in the US thanks to steady sales. It didn't even debut in the Top 10 but it managed something most artists struggle to get.

Jewel on the other hand hasn't had such terrible chart performance ever. This is her worst-selling album and all the singles hardly made a ripple in the charts. Even the lead single, "Again and Again" only peaked at #86. "Good Day" seems to be really ignored. It was released 2 months ago I think but never got played. I never even watched the video yet.

Second single "I Belong To Me" wasn't on the album, so I'm guessing a re-release is imminent. Surprisingly, her husband is doing really well despite not being anything much overall. His second single managed to crack into the Hot 100 last week at #87.

truehappiness 22nd September 2006 09:09 AM

I know! Isn't it so pretty, MC? :p I should make one of the other CM o_o~

I find it weird that only certain people get lots of sales in America.. x.x

pbs1605 22nd September 2006 09:10 AM

Why do they do a re-release.Shakira did the same thing with Hips Don't Lie.They should include it on the original album.I think it is ok if a tour album comes out though.

Mad_Cactuar 22nd September 2006 09:34 AM

^ It's because the song wasn't made at the same time with the album. Like the album already got produced recorded, awaiting release. And suddenly the artist gets a new song that's fantastic but it's too late to add on the CD. Or, the label wouldn't allow it (maybe?) so they can cash in.

I got the normal Oral Fixaion Vol. 2 and it sucks that I don't have the bonus tracks. :gnash Even Ashlee Simpson and her single "Invisible" is the same.

Quote:

Are you kidding? Rascal Flatts had the highest first week sales this year. Fiona Apple's debut album went multi-platinum eventhough she was a nobody shortly before that. Anyone can sell in America given the right promotion and quality. Unlike in Japan where every Ayumi/Utada/Ai Otsuka/Koda Kumi/B'z/Kinki Kidz/Orange Range seems to dominate the Top 10 and the yearlies ever since forever.

pbs1605 22nd September 2006 09:37 AM

It does suck about missing out on the bonus tracks.

Mad_Cactuar 22nd September 2006 10:41 AM

Quote:

The album originally did not include the track "I Belong to Me", Simpson stated that the track would only be included on a special version of the album which is being sold only in Wal-Mart. On the iTunes version of the album, "I Belong to Me" is included. However, less than two weeks after the album release, her record company decided to start shipping albums with "I Belong To Me" included for every retailer, today, the album can be purchased anywhere with the bonus track included.
Wow, that's great. :yes I might just buy the CD then. Might. Paris has better singles though.

I ain't liking I Belong To Me.

truehappiness 22nd September 2006 11:10 AM

About Rascal Flatts: Just WHY did they sell so much in the first place o__o?

Mad_Cactuar 22nd September 2006 11:24 AM

^ I REALLY don't know. I hated their song so much, the one for the Cars movie. It was terrible, it didn't even sound good.

I hope Nerina Pallot gets released in the US, she's bloody awesome.

i mean, HOW in the WORLD do songs like that SURVIVE???? "I'm bringin' Sexy back."???? What? is ANYONE listening to the words... the song doesn't even have a good sound or anything!

Delirium-Zer0 22nd September 2006 06:07 PM

I've learned to just never listen to the lyrics of english-language pop songs anymore. The mean IQ in this country has dropped considerably over the last two decades or so and the quality of lyrics has diminished along with it. Not like you can understand what they're saying half the time anyway. But if I paid attention to the lyrics of the songs I'm hearing at work all day, I'd probably end up in a straitjacket screaming about how lyricists have gone "dee dee dee". When you get past the terrible lyrics, alot of recent US pop songs are actually pretty well-done. The beats & sounds in "SexyBack" are great, IMHO. But I can't STAND the lyrics.

And in defense of Rascal Flatts, "Life is a Highway" IS a cover song that the makers of Cars commissioned them to do (and it's better than the Tom Cochrane original, by ALOT). Their original material is very nice, and the guy can seriously sing.

BabyUtada 22nd September 2006 07:03 PM

I'm not surprised that Beyonce and JT have the two best singles and albums on the Billboard Charts; however, I am a little surprised that John Mayer is on the charts. In my opinion, his singing in his single "The World is Going to Change" has become quite irratating to my ears. I guess dating Jessica Simpson all this time was a bad idea........:mischief Anyway, yay for Beyonce and JT!

I LIKE RASCAL FLATTS TOO! LOL The guy's voice isn't for everyone but they have some really nice pieces.

Country Music is the highest selling music in America. Its because rednecks don't know how to use the internet.

Or because, y'know, country music that doesn't suck tends to sell better (there is some crappy country out there but it tends to be ignored).

I also love what little I've heard of Rascal Flatts, but for now I'm in love with Carrie Underwood.

TeamAyu 23rd September 2006 09:56 AM

^ Carrie Underwood has a gorgeous voice. I didn't like her at first... but I never really gave her music a chance and once I did I was won over.

"Wasted" & "We're Young And Beautiful" = love.

See, I first caught her on American Idol (around when she butchered Independence Day) and HATED her for awhile. Then I dug up some of her older performances on the show (Alone is awesome) and saw her singing Bless the Broken Road and Elvis's Trouble and was won over (grudgingly). I was happy for her when she won, although I'd originally wanted her to lose to Bo Bice.

But yeah, her album is almost as perfect as.... not just an Idol debut album it's awesome by those standards - but for a country pop album at all, it's great. The only song I really don't like much on there is Inside Your Heaven *snicker. snicker.* - and while I'm not wild about We're Young and Beautiful, it's nice.

The rest are all stellar - even Jesus, Take the Wheel. It's downright corny, but it is pretty.

Her voice reminds me of Martina McBride's (which is a huge compliment coming from me), but... that doesn't mean I want her doing Martina's songs.

Still, her debut was one of the best albums of 2005, I think. Definitely the best Idol debuts. And the best country album of '05 (the only other ones i bought, to my memory, were Jo Dee Messina's Delicious Surprise, LeAnn Rimes's This Woman - both awesome albums - Faith Hill's Fireflies, and Martina's Timeless, which was kind of surprisingly boring).

JesA 23rd September 2006 04:53 PM

i dont see how Justin is selling so well...in my opinion, Futuresex is awful. i wish just for once, Aly and AJ could sell as well as Beyonce or someone else, just to show everyone that they can really sing and sell cds well. btw, what ever happened to Kelly Clarkson? i havent heard anything new from her in a while...i really liked her Breakaway album.

ps: and yur sig doesnt suck, exploding bird. i think its funny...the text is a little plain though

AH, thanks.

As for Kelly, she's still here! She's going to be releasing her new album next year, possibly around February or so. She hasn't been gone that long! She put out a lot of hit singles from Breakaway and she's been touring quite a lot too, so... yeah.

Mad_Cactuar 24th September 2006 02:18 AM

"Jesus Take The Wheel" is so awesome. It's the only single I like from her though. "Inside Your Heaven" was lame. Terribly lame. Her third single didn't do well though. I even forgot the title, but it had "Remember" in it.

Of course, besides Kelly, we also have Avril with her new album to come out next year. :D I love Avril.

immel 24th September 2006 02:46 AM

I'm impressed that the sales sort of equal the sales of the Japanese market.

truehappiness 24th September 2006 02:50 AM

Actually, the first week sales are only sort of similar..
Long term.. sometimes 2-5 million is the norm for popular artists.. :o

Mad_Cactuar 24th September 2006 02:51 AM

Japan is #2 behind the US, so yeah. Japan's bottom feeders sell terribly low though. In the US, albums at #200 still sell approximately 3,000 copies a week.

immel 24th September 2006 03:01 AM

Well, it's still impressive that Japan has the 2nd biggest music market out there, and their population isn't even half of the population of the US... and there's those countries with like a billion inhabitants... what the hell, they live without music?

:/

Mad_Cactuar 24th September 2006 03:03 AM

^ They have piracy. Like China. Bootleg heaven. :laugh It's a wonder that record companies haven't conspired to bomb the place or anything.

immel 24th September 2006 03:05 AM

I wonder what the sales would look like, in China, if the bootlegs counted.... o-O;

truehappiness 24th September 2006 03:09 AM

Well, piracy and that many of China's residents probably don't have the resources to buy official releases..

MC, can't you just post or link to the whole charts for the Hot 100 and the Top 200 (or at least the top 20-40 with regards to albums) instead of just posting only the ones you personally care about? I mean, wouldn't it bug you if someone else did the same for only what they liked and you didn't see what you were looking for?

What section on the site tells you the sales numbers? I can see the chart just fine, but everyone seems to know exact sales numbers but lil' ole me :(

Clay Aiken reminds me of Junsu from DBSK in that pick. Christian Bale.....not so much. He's still not manly enough. You're gettin' there Clay, keep trying.

Mad_Cactuar 1st October 2006 06:48 AM

Oh, THAT. Just look in the news section. Or when all fails, check wikipedia. Some of them have the sales numbers. And no, they aren't fake as they're from Billboard. Every Thursday afternoon (my time), Billboard will report sales numbers for albums. And in the night, they report stuff on singles before updating all the charts. They won't give out sales numbers unless you pay I guess.

Clay Aiken looks instensely awkward no matter what. He can ask to be taken seriously when he stops covering Richard Marx songs.

Thanks! I guess I'll just wait for when wikipedia updates then.

Clay is so airbrushed. I can post pictures of him without airbrushing and you'll all throw up.

I wouldnt consider that a bad word but he's hideous.

So, there is a billboard thread, woot!

Anyone want to post the Top 10 albums and singles each week? ;)

Maemi 4th December 2009 04:41 PM

Make this thread alive and please make it sticky!!! ;)

rookies 5th December 2009 08:10 AM

^ I agree, I hope a mod can sticky the thread.

I found the Top 5 Album sales for last week, but I don't know where to find the rest of the chart. :/
