Anyone else HATE CDL 06-07?

What happened with this years CDL? Ayu's vocals were pretty bad, the costumes were TERRIBLE (but I understand most were old rehashed ones) and the stage and lighting and dancing just looked dead, empty and boring... Worst of all it just looked really cheap, tacky, dated and embarassing... For instance the scenes of them wheeling Ayumi around on the trays... :o

SUCH a step back from last years CDL and arena tour 06. I'm hoping that it was just because she had to redo segments from older CDL's. Something about the whole way it was filmed and looked felt completely off compared to all other Ayu performances lately. Do you think that it will somehow magically be improved once they edit it for the DVD?

ayushiteru 10th January 2007 07:21 AM

of course it will....a lot of edition,etc,etc,etc...

and ayu seems fat in some costumes(fly high and no way to say)

..:Hot:Like:Wow:.. 10th January 2007 07:32 AM

I did'nt like it that much either.

Ayumiko 10th January 2007 07:43 AM

I think it will be better when they put it on dvd...the sound might be edited and some camera angles might be different.

Tasked 10th January 2007 07:46 AM

it looked cheap because they used ALL THESE EXPENSIVE stuff, but didn't use enough money to make those stuff as perfect as in the Arena Tour's... It still is the most expensive CDL Ayu ever did though.. On the DVD the vocals and instruments will be enhanched and it'll be great then.
Also; don't compare ATs with CDLs too much, because ATs are way more important, and they put sooo much more effort in them. (A CDL is just a 2-concert-show)

Rain_RuLez 10th January 2007 07:47 AM

What was most distressing and disappointing to me was the lack of true emotion in her singing... She performed well, but nothing was overly emotional like we're so used to seeing.

I also am kinda disappointed there weren't more ballads in this Countdown...
The best performance vocally & instrumentally that was good visually as well was A Song for XX. She did a good job with it.

By the way, you can tell she had more surgery. Her face is alot more slender and defined than previously.

Yukitora 10th January 2007 08:09 AM

^more surgery? More defined and slender?

I haven't seen this yet, but thanks for stopping me from seeing it :P The DVD ver will hopefully be much better though.

AyUmIXx 10th January 2007 08:12 AM

i found this CDL 06-07 as a very interesting CDL ever..
it's really a good idea of using the same old costumes on stage..
with the new arrangement of music, probably..

ayu_ready? 10th January 2007 09:04 AM

you musn't compare CDL to AT, because CDL is a middle-class live, real 'countdown' ya know, and ARENA is a n expensive thingy, very well filmed and made.
always.

just a question: is it worse than CDL04-05? :)

Norrel 10th January 2007 09:09 AM

Sadly, people still do compare her CDLs to her Arena Tours..

Ayumiko 10th January 2007 09:16 AM

I never compare cdls to ATs because obviously more money and effort will be put into ATs than cdls. I thought ayu did alright in this cdl...sure its not surprising since majority of the performances she performed already in her previous ATs...but I believe this is her most expensive cdl.

Kodayumi 10th January 2007 09:31 AM

Definitely not me, its a good one, i think, at least for me.

simonlau 10th January 2007 11:01 AM

i just saw that on youtube
and i cant say i hate it
but just dont like it

Diana 10th January 2007 11:04 AM

I knew it was Best Of CDL.... But I didn`t know that they will put the same costumes :( Grrr...It`s not fun, I saw it all before right? :irked That`s why I don`t like it.

Tasked 10th January 2007 11:11 AM

well maybe they wanna use all their good new ideas to make the very first ASIA TOUR supreme :P.. this costed alot of money, but not alot of designing, this CDL.. so maybe that's a good thing xD

truehappiness 10th January 2007 11:13 AM

Honestly, this concert was probably more of a "You have to be there.." kind of thing.

People who saw it live liked it.. :\

AyUmIXx 10th January 2007 11:18 AM

the stage is really cool!!!!
looks like she was doing an AT!

Ye... maybe.

LOL haha. Yeah sounds like it :D
I think they put it that way cause they didn`t have much time. And the whole album thing was rushed, it was supposed to be a mini album so... probably that

truehappiness 10th January 2007 11:27 AM

Not much time?

They'd been planning the CDL since like early November/late October~ :O

SunshineSlayer 10th January 2007 11:38 AM

I think it is one of her best CDLs. I agree the camera shots could have been better, but that is only because this is the TV version. The DVD version will be using different shots and angles.

maneayu 10th January 2007 11:45 AM

Maybe Ayu's voice isn't the best, but it's the best CDL I ever saw (on TV version it's always bad cams and such).

Jeanette 10th January 2007 12:05 PM

Yeah, I think the DVD version will be better. The CDL to me wasn't as cool as I thought it was going to be. I do like that fact that she kind of changed to outfits a little, but to me this wasn't her best. Ayu's vocals were not that bad. They were really good during NEVER EVER, though she was kind of off in parts. She should of added more secret songs to the encore. What really bothered me about this one was she acted a little more sexy in this concert then in any other. Her and the dancers in corsets and lingerie and the way she danced in until that day... . Ayu acting sexy to me is a turn off. It isn't her. The whole concert didn't seem like her. It didn't seem really original. I just got a felling of "well I can't think of anything new so I am just going to redo old stuff", and the ones she picked didn't really go together. It seemed rushed to me.

Actually, that's called growing up. She's closing to 30. She can't have a baby round face.

kiyuketsuki 10th January 2007 12:52 PM

VOCALS. D:

salina 10th January 2007 01:05 PM

this cdl was very worst i only like some of her outfits

and her voice was like oh my god to boring and bad. at some songs

her voice was great an on other really disappointed and she looks so tired she must have a big break :)

realize_! 10th January 2007 04:42 PM

I'm not even going to judge the concert seeing as I'm only watching it on my computer. I thought AT06 wasn't that great when watching it on the comp. but as soon as I grabbed it in my hands, I fell in love with it.

what was wrong with her dance in until that day...? that was far from sexy imo, and was just fun dancing.

seeing the circumstances, she's releasing a BEST album, this concept of her reusing past ideas just fits well with what will be happening in the next month, ie. A BEST II.

micster 10th January 2007 04:45 PM

Her worst lives ever.

Rubbish setlist, Rubbish clothing, Rubbish vocals

[i could go on nae]

Surreal 10th January 2007 04:54 PM

it's pretty boring to me.

Delirium-Zer0 10th January 2007 05:07 PM

I was really expecting something more for this show... seriously :( The set list was good, and when I heard what concerts they were being taken from, I was interested. But the things that were changed... just... totally ruined it. Except for the red & black version of the ourselves outfit. Equally as cool as the original. But then the lingerie outfit for NEVER EVER and the beginning of A Song for XX? Makes the whole performance feel less honest just because she's not wearing the "everygirl" clothes from AT 2002.

And the WHOLE THING WAS CHOREOGRAPHED!!! NOOOO!!! I like ayu to move like ayu. I don't want her to follow choreography for that much of a show, especially since her music is getting more rock-style, more dark... less... dancey. MUCH less dancey. What happened to ayu learning the guitar? I'd rather see that than dancing. The whole show I wanted her to hold the microphone, move her hands all gracefully and epically, and tap the microphone at the end of every line.

In my opinion, the encore was the only good part of the show. (That was cute, how she didn't mess up Trauma but she DID mess up independent, and before the encore she messed up Boys & Girls and AUDIENCE. Hehehe.) I like to watch her be herself & have fun. But dancing should be reserved strictly for particularly dancey songs. Boys & Girls and such should HAVE dancing... songs like until that Day... should not. (Oh, and for the record, I'm cool with Trauma, independent, UNITE! and Humming 7-4 because they're audience participation dances.)

SheFliesHigher 10th January 2007 10:28 PM

I have only watched one piece of CDL 06-07, and that is her performance of "Until That Day". Her vocals were some of the worst I have ever heard from her. She completely ruined the "oooo, la la laaaaa" part, which has always been my favorite bit.

evolutionricky 10th January 2007 10:37 PM

I'm listening to the vocals now I was just thinking they aren't that great...

Actually, it's called plastic surgery =)

Bones are bones. Her nose also looked a bit more slender.

These changes also don't happen over the course of a few months. Watch the Jewel & momentum PVs. Her face is even different there.

alt.total-loser 10th January 2007 10:49 PM

Huh. I didn't like it. I didn't like last year's either, so... >__>

I just don't think I'm much of a CDL person. Or something...

everlastingRAINBOW 10th January 2007 11:00 PM

I'm glad I ordered black :D!

Actually, the shape of your face change pretty constantly due to the amount of weight you put on and stuff.

Plastic surgery isn't the only thing that can change facial features.

And I think CDL is much more of the "you-have-to-be-there" concert than than, say, her arena tours.

*shrugs*

Second note, Beautiful Fighters sounds so much better on the TV version after the mechanical voice toned wayyyyyyy down.

alt.total-loser 10th January 2007 11:03 PM

The only time I ever suspect people of surgery... like that... is if their bone shape seems to change. =/ But Ayu's face seems to change all the time depending on what she's wearing and lighting and other junk so...

I doubt she got surgery. e__e

truehappiness 11th January 2007 01:04 AM

Usually, CDL is a lot less 'visually appealing' since it's just a two day thing..

So people don't tend to like it as much as her arena concerts.
IMO, people should be all "WTF" at her early CDLs. Really "plain" outfits, and scary singing.. D:

WillofDusk 11th January 2007 07:00 AM

The live was great I have no doubt.
The vocal is as usual and even it is bad it is wayyyy much better than Utada's passion music stations livee. Hikki has no exitement in her but Ayu does

Yep this is the kind of "You-have-to-be-there".

Hey man CDL00-01 is a classic to me lol. My first real DVD and the second concert I saw (ST02 was first). I like some performances from the CDL, some from ST.

It's the same... it's just the lighting and makeup fooling you... she might look tiny different on the PVs or concerts or whatever, but she looks exactly the same in all the backstage stuff. There is now way she could go for a plastic surgery in recent months, she wouldn't have time to recover, which takes at least a month for the scars and skin colour irregulations coused by the surgery to heal completly...

minkAYuko 11th January 2007 04:51 PM

I think it.s a CDL make to look like an AT, yeah it looks weird... .cause it.s like is not a CDL or an AT something in the middle... an AT with low budget or an CDL that wanted to be an AT.

I like everything else! ayu dancing, the singing was ok!, but this time around they took some time for the new arragements thats. for sure! the new arragements are soooooooo good!! it.s not a bad CDL but it is a weird one.

She looks exactly the same to me. And for the record, yes your face does get slimmer with age.

If I were to rank the CDLs:
1. CDL 00-01
2. CDL 06-07
3. CDL 04-05
4. CDL 05-06
5. CDL 02-03
6. CDL 01-02

I agree. I really didn't like the lingerie-esque outfits she used.
1. I loved the original outfit.
2. Does every concert now have to have a "sexy lingerie" part to it? Seriously.

Other initial thoughts:
I liked the vocals for A Song for XX and NEVER EVER a lot, but I thought she (or her background singers) went flat on many songs :( A Song for XX wasn't as emotionally charged as other ASFXX performances, but that's one of the things I love about seeing it live - every performance is different. For some songs like Blue Bird and evolution, the performances all seem the same, but ASFXX performances always bring something new to the table. The remix of NEVER EVER was interesting.

Other than that, I'm going to reserve judgement for the DVD, because the balance for the TV version wasn't that good. There were times when I knew the background vocalists were supposed to be singing, but I couldn't really hear them and when Yoshio's guitar solo seemed drowned out.

Jeanette 12th January 2007 05:36 AM

it seems to me that ayu is starting to care a little more about outfits, dancing and the sets than her vocals. and all the moving around is putting a strain on her voice.

It seems dead..... She is there singing.... but the magic... gone.

The only part I felt some emotion was during her english text.... I liked that.

The magic seems to be gone from all her music! it begun to seem outdated now...

Princess_Of_Roses 10th February 2007 06:46 PM

I havent seen it O_O...

Ive liked the last one she had...thats the only other one Ive seen...Ill try to find this one..

maxikot 10th February 2007 07:43 PM

I don't think magic is gone. I feel her energy whole time I watch even this CD. I still see her as a fairy on stage. I think that on DVD version her positive energy will be better felt ;)

Ani_C 10th February 2007 07:57 PM

From the bit I saw I wasn't enjoying it too much D: I don't know why. Oh well xD Maybe sooner or later I'll enjoy it.

zeroshin888 10th February 2007 08:12 PM

I don't agree, I really enjoyed watching this CDL compared to other ones. I really liked evolution in this CDL because she was actually singing the song! She hasn't really done that in ages. I agree with *hearT_Place* totally about A song for XX, usually it's a little more emotional but nonetheless, still very outstanding. Her vocals to me seemed better than CDL 05-06 and AT 06 too. Yeah, comparing it with AT but just vocally. Her vocals were not boring at all, it had a lot of emotions in it.
The stage was very pretty too in comparison to her previous CDLs.

I agree that she looked a bit fat but it's all good, makes her look cuter and younger. =P

To Rain_RuLez:
Honestly, drop the plastic surgery thing and be logical. Like what Dustie had said, she can't have had plastic surgery in the course of like what, a few months? It takes time for her face to heal and everything. Make up and the stage lighting can do wonders. You can always make you face more slender by going to a spa and everything. There are machines that can make your face more slender, you can do it by hand too. I know because my mom's an esthetician that works at a Spa and sometimes she makes my face more slender by hand. You probably thought that she looked different in her CDL than in JEWEL and momentum PVs because she was wearing lighter make up in the two?

Surreal86 10th February 2007 09:25 PM

One song that I really think she did a good job on was A Song for XX. Just the power and emotion in it was really good. Ok maybe not throughout the whole thing, but there was one part espeically when she was in the white dress thing singing the lead in to the chorus. I thought that those 15 seconds were the best of the whole concert, I wish she would sing like that all the time.

I felt the same with CDL0506, but when the DVD came I pretty much figured it's because it's only the TV version I saw before. Wait for the DVD, and re-judge it all. Better sound in general, better angles, more work put down on it.

I liked the CDL0607 TV version better, though. Only that she's singing truly horribly in some songs, but the show is great. Pure entertainment, I wish I could have been there.

I actually agree with you on this point. I have watched plenty of concerts that are amazing that don't involve huge backdrops and a dozen costume changes. Her tours are more of a spectacle so you're more in awe of the design than her vocals & songs.

immel 10th February 2007 10:33 PM

^That is very true. Her live voice is quite average, and parts of CDL0607 was very badly performed vocally. "Spectacle" is a good word for it, with the negative undertones that comes with it. I still find the shows great and entertaining, Ayumi sure has her style, and she's been going this way, with the crazy costumes and moving around, for quite some time now.

Alessia_Tateno 11th February 2007 12:43 PM

It was the worst ever..her vocals were terrible (same as Kouhaku obviously) I don't talk about the costumes 'cause for me she has really no taste in that, and it's rare for me to like her costumes..

ruixiong89 11th February 2007 01:09 PM

I think her voice was fine, it wasn't seriously bad, she was just exhausted from all the dancing and so. But still I love the CDL because Ayu's really putting in a lot of effort to up her game with the dancing and everything! Really cool! Not to mention her costume changes were all welcomed! Super quick change!

IŽll wait ^^
IŽve never seen a countdown from the dvd version though.... Well I know I can expect good thing since I enjoyed every Arena tour ^^

Deep snow 11th February 2007 01:57 PM

i agree. not her best CDL, it's like watching the whole ARENA TOUR 2002 again (which i don't really like), with more costume variety, her voice's in her standard CDL quality, but there are some performances that i really like e.g until that Day...

hiroshi_ben 12th February 2007 10:57 AM

I liked it a lot~and she'd spent so much time rehearsing for this CDL~so much dancing, effects etc.

extepan 14th February 2007 10:30 AM

i havent actually seen it yet. maybe i should buy the dvd (with A best 2) and watch it.

i have always liked CDL, because there are more mishaps...like ayu forgetting lyrics!

truehappiness 15th February 2007 12:23 AM

She forgets parts of independent. LOL
