Regarding trashed thread

I'd like to start by saying I'm extremely agitated by the action of a staff member trashing my whole thread just because a few members got caught up in an argument. :) You could have just trashed their posts and those mentioning the argument, which would be like 8 posts max. Instead, you trashed the entire thread.

I feel like you trashed my thread just because you didn't like me or my topic, not because of rules or anything. :) You know you could have trashed the posts instead. If this were to happen in an important sticky whatsoever made by you, you wouldn't react in the same way. Explain please.

I'd also like to know who trashed it. :) Thank you.

immel 6th February 2007 01:15 PM

This has happened in the past, entire threads getting trashed because of the reply of one person, in a few cases arguments between more than one person, I could list examples.

I know that several of those threads can be seen as, or was seen as, quite doubtful by staff and members of the board. But I do think it is wrong to trash an entire thread that has been alive for weeks or months in which a lot of persons participated (I'm not talking about the recent tabloid one, nor the CHAT THREADs), because of the actions of one or a few users later on in the thread.

I think that a more appropriate action would be to delete the posts of the trouble makers, and if necessary also write a warning post in the effected thread about what is not wished for. A short "No flaming of other users" or "Please stay on topic", or if the staff member in question got time, a more thorough explanation.

I know the tabloid thread isn't a quite good idea, because very few people would be able to follow the points in it. It can also lead to flaming of users, which it did in this case, but as of now I only know one user remaining on AHS who would do something like that.

Even though this might seem insensible I find it wrong to trash threads because they have the potential, or slight potential, to attract rule breaking behavior, because if a user would take the opportunity to break the rules that user should be punished and not everyone.

I have at times gotten the feeling that some actions taken by staff is because it's the quickest way, as the staff members are doing this on their free time. Please take careful note on that this is not a complaint, I know that I have nothing to do with the rules and policies of AHS, apart from following them, and I also know that AHS is a free service maintained by people working at their free time. But if that would be the case, maybe it would be a good idea to look for staff members who have more time for all the hard work.

Mad_Cactuar 6th February 2007 01:45 PM

I know Immel, they have their own lives to deal with and stuff, but still... ARGH.

At least if you have no time to deal with problems, just post a warning or something like that in the thread and then delete the argument when you're free.

emi♡ 6th February 2007 03:40 PM

Actually I don't understand why they finally trashed it. One of the mods was on at least twice when the thread was open, and knew about the posts, yet did nothing, then skal was here, she did nothing, then two lower mods were on, and the thread gets trashed. Were you guys debating or something?

Mad_Cactuar, I'm sorry for saying **** in your thread, I know it's partially my fault, but I was talking to some other members, and we all hope that you go through with your idea anyway, because we all love it.

Cyria 6th February 2007 04:07 PM

We do discuss things together and bring up posts that could be against the rules. Unless the rulebreaking is blatantly obvious (like someone posting pictures of sex, as one clear example of when it's alright to act as soon as you see the offending post) it's better to wait for others' opinions before acting in case the rest of the staff disagree with you about what should be done.

I understand that the thread was meant as a joke but in general there's a chance that people will use something like this to go against forum etiquette:

Quote:

Be respectful to other initiates.
Please think about how the things you say will affect others. Being sarcastic or hurtful achieves nothing. If you know that something will make others feel offended, insulted, or uncomfortable it would be best not to post it at AHS. There is a real person behind every screename. Respect their feelings and their right to have their own opinions.
In the morning I saw that it had gotten personal and been trashed because of that. We're trying to decide whether it could be reinstated or whether there's still too big a possibility of people using it to make personal insults, in which case things could get pretty bad pretty fast before any mod was online to stop it.

immel 6th February 2007 04:30 PM

Sounds great, it is very very nice of you to release this kind of information on how you work and what is currently going on, because when we are left with nothing but the result of your work it can sometimes get very confusing. I appreciate it very much and it also made me happy, as weird as that may sound.

I think that the users who were mentioned in this issue of the tabloid had time to reply and say that they were entirely OK with the idea along the standards of Mad_Cactuar before someone came in to the thread later on and took the opportunity to flame. And thus I think that at least this thread should not have to be trashed, I can't speak for future editions.

In future editions it could be an idea to only include users who you know are OK with being mentioned, just to be sure it wont lead to any trouble for you, Mad_Cactuar.

moombasista 6th February 2007 07:38 PM

It got trashed because people can't handle awesomeness.

Mad_Cactuar 6th February 2007 11:49 PM

I know, hence I used emiko, immel and lucy since they're all pretty pleasant. :heart

theprojectzero 7th February 2007 07:12 AM

Fish talks! Fish talks!

My thread and post get trashed like all the time. Now, i've come to think of it that AHS members are just silly and sissy princess from the girls scout.:yes

That member's pictures thread that i made nut long ago got trashed. :innocent But MC, i'm just like you, think they just didn't like me or my topic, not because of rules or anything.:love

I LOVE YOU FOR TRASHIN' MY THREAD AND POST!:eviltongu Get a life.

But MC, i want an ecore for that tabloid you done!

A staff member posted in your thread that it was trashed because the current Members' Pictures thread hadn't exceeded the 500 post limit (even now it's still only at 436 posts). That is reason enough since the policy is that new versions of ongoing threads, like Pictures or the Official Artist Threads, should only be started when the current one is very close to/over the 500 limit.

Kodayumi 7th February 2007 09:12 AM

it would be definitely better if the mods send a message to the thread starter before he/she trashes it.

Come on man, world peace :D

I agree with Cyria too, theprojectzero, you made that thread when the Members Pics thread only had like 380 posts... :P So it's not the staff member's fault.

it could very well be true that some people "can't handle its awesomeness", but we still have to respect them and their feelings.

isaac hiew 8th February 2007 07:53 AM

Mad_Cactuar, the entire thread just caused fightings in the thread. Don't you think you have the partial fault into it?

Poking fun at people that YOU THINK YOU KNOW them is just simply wrong. For this I won't side with you. I think whoever trashed your thread is simply doing his/her job.

Trashing the posts? Well let me tell you, the chances are there will be people kept on popping out and assaulting each other. The whole thread has to be closed and trashed, I'm afraid so.

In fact I seriously think moomba and you owe immel, Lucy and emiko an apology.

moomba you got your last warning, whether you listen or not it's entirely up to you.

I am now telling you guys, I won't allow any fights occur in my forum. You guys wanna fight? Go somewhere else, don't do it in my turf.

Mad_Cactuar 8th February 2007 10:41 AM

In any case, sorry Lucy, Immel and Emiko.

Regarding my latest infraction I totally understand. Sorry then, micster and the staff. I assumed porn was ok as long as it was fake and pixellated but I guess not really...

Skal read my tabloid then I guess. :laugh You read it. :laugh

WTF is wrong with you? You think people can actually fight on the internet?

You're crazy if you take the internet seriously at all.

But hey... it's OK Isaac. Have it your way. After all, it is your forum.

bulmasman 8th February 2007 07:49 PM

I guess I'll have to find something else to believe in

Mad_Cactuar 8th February 2007 11:19 PM

pls stop spamming both of u

Ok, I guess then I can't publish this stuff anymore on AHS despite the demand? (obviously) Maybe I should just get a site or w/e where I can put it up.

Piccolo 9th February 2007 02:17 AM

I'm pretty sure there is no demand for tabloids and threads that start fights amongst people. The staff is doing the right thing.

emi♡ 9th February 2007 02:28 AM

^the tabloid was not the source of the fight, and it wouldn't have been. Mad Cactuar knows this, and so does everyone else, and, yes, there is a demand for it.

However, maddy (can I use that) knows that you can't post those explicit things...and...well...i don't think it would be very wise to post the next issue if you end up doing it...you know why...

The staff did the right thing because they had to, because it was against the rules, because us fighting was against the rules, but, the tabloid is not the source. The post was unnecessary, and mine after it were too, but, trust me, something like this, because of us involved, couldn't be handled anywhere else, it was handled here, and everything we knew was to happen, did. End of story.

Keishi 9th February 2007 04:45 AM

I'm still suggesting a subscription thread. So anyone who want to read the tabloid will be PM-ed. And anyone who don't want, can live in their world with peace, flowers, & butterflies :heart

No, but it can be given all the credit. As for the trashing of the first issue I, after reading it, can barely understand that someone dared posting it. Not rule friendly at all, like the preview was.

And I can't believe the argument going on above, in public, between a staff member and a user.

emi♡ 9th February 2007 07:01 AM

^yeah, I know, I couldn't believe it either, the posting of the tabloid, and the argument.

i hate to admit, but i love gossip adn drama, and since it is against AHS policiy to start drama, i would def like this PM'd to me. I'm quite sutre some of my sets were in the ugly sets section anyways lol, it would be interesting to which ones were. if any.

Keishi 9th February 2007 09:26 AM

In the end, that's journalism. People who were included in the press release hates it, but people who weren't love it so much. You can't please everyone.

Yes you can. :heart Yes, I was aware that the rules does not allow those stuff, but who wants to read something tame and controlled if they have to spend time and computer space downloading it anyway? :shrug So I brought it down upon myself.

Minus the "AYUMI SHOCKER" feature and a few of the ads, I think it would have been rule-friendly though. I'd also like to point out that it was the preview that caused the fight, not the full issue. That means it's the article of Emi, Martin (can I call you that?) and Lucy that started it all. So I blame them.

Ok, I was joking. I guess I'm a tiny bit guilty for making the article, but you saw Emi and the bunch, they were happy ducklings. It was unexpected, I never thought of how the public would react to them. Still, I'm not faulting anyone, I made the tabloid, so yes I even got an infraction for it now, I admit it, I was wrong, kthx.

As for a PM and subscription... maybe not. I think I've had enough. :laugh But never say never, right? ;)

why is it always the same group of people complaining or causing some sort of problem? is there really a need to have to post a tabloid here? i dunno, maybe you could just send the tabloid just to the people who want to see it. because there's a lot of us who don't even know most of you personally, and the point of a tabloid is hot gossip about people you want to hear about. :shrug

That's a really bad explanation.

A better one would be:
Everyone hated it except like, five or six people.

Though I believe, a little editing to make the tabloids more all-user-friendly would be reasonable.

sexysaucestar 10th February 2007 04:28 PM

Chris, please stop it. We, the Staff, have already decided that the tabloid is not necessary here on AHS. Constantly bickering back and forth about it will only make matters more headache-inducing.

Gee. Thanks. -_-

I can inform you that I, personally, am 100% sure.

At first I was in suuport of the tabloid as something fun, but once i saw the full one that was posted, it completely overstepped the mark and was clearly in direct violation of the rules of the forum. For example, no matter how "pixelated" it is, porn is against the rules at AHS, always has been and always will be.

Also, you can see the argument that was caused by the tabloid. There is abolsutely no guarentee that arguments won't erupt with every new "tabloid" posted if it was allowed to continue.

I'm getting sick and tired of putting up with the complaints about how the forum is run, and it's almost always the same people who complain. The rules are available in black and white on the forum, so there's no excuse for the amount of rule breaking that goes on here at all.

Keishi 10th February 2007 04:44 PM

I know you hate to repeat yourself. :) :) :) :) :) :) :love

and yes. The porn can go away. Not the whole tabloid.
When you can get rid of one thing, you don't have to delete THE WHOLE thing.

Now I know why you guys always trashed the whole thread instead of the post that caused the ruckus. :) :)

Have a good day. :)

bulmasman 10th February 2007 04:46 PM

It would take a lot more than just a little editing to make it friendly for all users

Keishi 10th February 2007 04:56 PM

If it takes more, well then what's the problem?

Nevertheless, thanks to some people, the next issues won't be out for good. So can we just let this case die? Thank you very much.
