How many people have you introduced to thought Ayumi was white?
 

When I first saw Ayumi, I knew she was asian, it was the shape and features of her face. But when I introduced her to a couple of my friends, they all thought that she was white....one of them thought that she was latino! How about you guys?

White as in Caucasian I believe you mean?

My parents said they think she looks quite European rather than Asian although they knew from the start she's from Japan. I never really thought about it myself.

Most Asians knew her as a Japanese, but the rest thought she was Chinese.

None of my friends even know about Ayumi, they have only heard me talk about her:P

the general consensus was just she was asian...but i did get one or two who thought she was white because of her non-stereotypical eyes and hair color.

I remember when i left my LOVEppears album at my cousins house and they were like "I was wondering who that naked white chick was?" but Ayu does have very close features to a caucasian when she had make up on with out it though she looks regular Japanese

Oh yes, I've had a large number of my friends become shocked to find out that she's Japanese. I wonder what my response would have been if I didn't know her.

I don't know how, but every single person I've introduced her to, knows she's asian, yet no one here knows her...she doesn't look asian to me...at all...

Everyone I know says she's Japanese by just looking at her...

No one. Though sometimes she can look a little "white", but her facial features are too different.

The same :yes When I showed my mom CDL 2004/2005 the part when she sang evolution, Trauma... She said that she doesnt like Japanese and that she likes her XD And yes, I told her first that she was from Japan

Well, the shape of her eyes is different enough, so if I'd introduce her to someone, I'm sure they'd go "LOL A CHINEEZ PURSON!!!!1!".

I don't believe anyone would actually look at her and not be able to tell she's Asian right away...

she's so asian...and yet my mom keeps saying that her eyes are too big for japanese. i dont agree though.

same for my mom. She told me she must have non japanese parents or non japanese ancestors.

I don't think so. Only because I've said that she's Japanese before I've showed a picture.

My friend, however, has said she looks American, but she's my best friend and knows that she's 100% Japanese.

She admits that Ayu looks Asian in the No way to say PV, but also admitted that she looks quite American in the Bold & Delicious PV (most likely because of the NY setting?).

Wow, never happened to me. Probably because I introduced them to her music before her appearance.

My mum knew that Ayu's Japanese by just looking at her...even when I first saw Ayu I was like yeah she's Asian but not Caucasian

I can see how now people may get confused just by looking at more recent pictures. Just looking at the sigs and such in this thread (Chibi Venus, extepan and Hybrid Theory) you wouldn't instantly jump to her being Japanese/Asian. She was typically Japanese looking in the early days though so no confusion there.
Are you introducing her right though? This is Ayumi Hamasaki, a J-Pop star? Not much room for people to not know she's Japanese there.

I just knew her as Japanese :) but she never did look conventionally Japanese with her make up on.
