HK always creates controversies with foreign media
I've been an Ayu fan since 2001 and I've seen the major controveries that involved Ayu within the last 6 years. Back in 2003 when Ayu visited HK to do a photo shoot (there was a photo book of it as well), another HK singe,r Alan Tam slammed Ayu for being a "bad singer." Of course that sparked controversy, maybe MORE than the Eason Chan vs Ayu case but I'm just wondering, does HK have foreignphobia or something?
Not just in music btw, when the Departed (Infernal Affairs remake) came out in HK, the HK media gave it a lot of crap when most reviews outside HK gave it high praises. Most of the reviews that crapped on the movie didn't even have legit reasons anyways besides that it was a remake. The biggest suspect in that issue was Apple Daily since they love to create controversy. :rolleyes Now, Ayu's 2nd visit to HK and even does a concert there, this 2-bit jabroni like Eason Chan accuses Ayu for lip syncing? |
HK creates controversies over anything. They probably have the worst tabloids on Earth. :/ I don't think it is xenophobia or anything, Ayu arriving is probably just good for them to have something new to complain on. XD
|
well the media in hongkong tend to make a big fuss over small matters. and they love to cook up trouble. i always loathe them for trying to get pictures of female artists when they are changing or those pictures so called 'expose themselves'. :(
|
yup that's the word, xenophobia! lol forgot about it.
:D another thing about these HK tabloids that talk about foreign media like Japanese stuff, they'll start off by talking about great Japan is and how magical people live there (overexaggerated :D) and then startt he bashing. :rolleyes |
^ Maybe they are jealous. XDDD But yeah, HK media have the tendacy to go overboard with things like the photos of Gillian Chung changing and stuff. :/
|
When I was in Macau, I somehow managed to see those Hong Kong tabloids on sale, and it was something about Twins and one of the girls, how she was apparently "exposing" herself when she was changing. It's just retarded. Just give the artistes some peace, could they?! Afterall, they're like normal people, no need to blow things out of proportion.
Yup, Hong Kong media is bad all right. |
I believe the major reason why HK tabloids are so bad stems from this:
I've heard that in HK/China the tabloids/newspapers can print anything ; whereas in the US/EU you can be held accountable for whatever you print , for example celebs can sue the tabloids for defamation & slander for completelu untrue stories. |
i also don't understand why..
ayu's HK fans are so many but why the medias love to write a lot of bad things about ayu.. |
i wonder if ayu will ever go to HK to perform again.. it seems like the HK media are rather hostile to ayu..
|
I love Hong Kong but I despise the media there.
|
I remember about that Alan Tam stuffs... :(
YEah... what happen to HK?? |
oh, i didnt know that the Alan Tam thing was that serious? i wonder if Ayu knew...and what was the reactions of fans?
|
is china even worse than american taboids, (american tabloids are pretty bad)

China right now is different from Hong Kong. Hong Kong is a 'special administrative region' of China for 50 years after the handover. China does not have direct control of Hong Kong. China doesn't have tabloid newspapers, well at least that I know of. :) But you are correct that Hong Kong tabloids are really bad. I would say Hala's statement is the best description: "I believe the major reason why HK tabloids are so bad stems from this: I've heard that in HK/China the tabloids/newspapers can print anything ; whereas in the US/EU you can be held accountable for whatever you print , for example celebs can sue the tabloids for defamation & slander for completelu untrue stories." |
HK media is one of the worst if not the worst. I remember few years ago a magazine published pictures of one of a female star being raped on the cover with just a thin black stripe covering the eyes. It was revealed later that she was kidnapped and the kidnappers took pics of the star being raped. and someone got a hold of the photos and they sold them to the publisher. This caused alot of stars in the industry to protest against the media. It was very obvious who the star was too since they chose to only use a thin black stripe to cover. Later the star bravely came forward and admit it was her. That was really sad and disturbing.
Another case that caused many artists in the industry to protest is gillian from twins incident. She was secretly filmed changing in the backstage changing room. Someone put a hidden camera in one of the lockers and someone sold the pics to the publishers. Fans and people complained but instead of apologizing or whatever, they printed a second batch of magazines! :eviltongu |
they are really sick.......
between, who was that hk star that got raped? |
Quote:
Hello? There are many people from Hong Kong here. And, as far as I know, there wasn't any Hong Kong star that got raped. Only one called "Ella Koon" who was kissed by a crazy fan. Twins member was snapped with only her bra on in the changing room. And about Hong Kong: My dears, Hong Kong is not a playground. It is a hustlin' and bustlin' city, where you'll kill or be killed (LOL!!!). Hong Kong does not have foreign-phobia. As far as I'm concerned, they are foreign-obsessed. The fact is, Hong Kong media will not "respect" someone just because they are pretty or the new "it" boy/girl. The entertainment industry is not looked upon as respectable by Hong Kongers in any way (just my thought). I feel that the mentality is: "Why should they deserve all this praise when they use their image to sell themselves?". It is not only foreign stars who get slandered. Do you know who Leslie Cheung is? The famous actor? Leslie Cheung commited suicide. People speculate that he could not take the rumours and tabloids anymore. The tabloids always said he was gay and had a secret gay lover. Leslie Cheung's suicide happened a few years ago and his fans in Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea all felt really sad. Am I making any sense? I just woke up... :love :love But please, people, fellow Ayu fans, don't diss a city just because of their tabloids. :love :no |
I think Hong Kong simply has very powerful tabloids. Plus, avex protects Ayu from bad press in Japan and Taiwan, where they've established themselves, but they can't do the same for her in Hong Kong.

This was Carina Lau, right? (Tony Leung's ex) External link to info about this. |

Was she being raped :luv2 oh gosh~~~ I think it was before she became super famous, she had upset some triads (kind of like yakuza) and she was like... slapped around... taken pictures of, etc. She is strong though, when asked about it (it happened a few years back) she didn't shed a tear. Is that the same incident? My memory is foggy~~~:innocent **omgddd thnx clearedtruth for the link |
oh god...I didnt want her name to be posted coz it happened a long time ago and she was very brave to over come it...but yes it was her. She also attended the premier of confessions of pain with her boyfriend tony leung which ayu was there too in HK.

oh my god sorry i didn't see that the eyes are "hearts" I thought it was a shocked expression. |
oh lol...its ok...here you go: :OMG
|
Meh. All I do is read the tabloids and get on with my day. Knowing how creditable the tabloids are there, it doesn't bother me really that much. :P I just think of other nice things for the day.
Hong Kong itself sounds like a nice place, I want to visit there someday. XD |
Hong kong is a good place especially for shopping :D ...its just the tabloids that sucks.

Hong Kong = Shopping Heaven--if you got the cash! Quote:
The tabloid's slander of foreign stars are not because they are foreign stars. It is because they are tabloids! Aren't tabloids supposed to be sensational, outrageous, vulgar, ruthless, and what not? Wouldn't a tabloid writer FAIL if his/her tabloid just blew? In a way, they are similar to "forum trolls". Write something that will cause controversy, anger, and there you go. And about Alan Tam: He is like, the #1 sad uncle in Hong Kong (my opinion). His nickname is "principal" because he always criticizes and scolds singers younger than himself. He's like a principal of a elementary school, all fussy and stuff. |
oh yes Principal Tam as people refer him as...so annoying. Hes so old yet he still tries to look and dress young....-____________- seriously the wrinkles on his face can kill flies
|
hahahaha...alan tam is jokes. he has some nice songs and i LOVE it when he keeps on forgetting his lyrics XD mmm...hes a funny guy. oohh...also i remember MANY years ago, principal tam said hacken lee (another hk artist) was going to make it big, but sadly hacken ended up fading away in the industry. luckily he made a come back after his duet with gigi leung...anyway...
not only does hk media like to over-exaggerate, but they also like to use harsh and brutal wordings to slam the artists or attack the situation. maybe because i wasn't brought up in HK and raised with the constant slang trends, thats why i find them offensive, like the title about ayu's article, when she was drunk and her bra showed...GEEZ. -.-" whenever i read hk tabloids, i see them as jokes. |
HK tabloids are usually editorial to me...
|
The biggest problem isn't that HK tabloids are constantly blowing things out of proportion and printing fake news, it's that (at least from my experience) the people are so GULLIBLE! It's like they don't realize that they shouldn't believe everything the news says. Are the tabloids viewed as legitimate news sources in HK? That's what it seems like from the people I've talked to...
|
if its possible for u guys to get hold of a copy of a HK magazine, u will realise how crappy it is. its true.

I want to go to Hong-Kong too é__è
Thanks for all these informations, HK's medias seem to deform the 'PERFECT image' that some fans have from Ayu, don't they focus in general about how she dropped her glaces or that she drinks & smokes ? Maybe they try to focus on the 'human side' of Ayu, not the 'perfect diva' because everybody knew the ASIA TOUR 2007 performance was excellent, but not everybody knew she was drank and stayed at the hotel... [I want tabloids to read in Morocco T-T] |
I guess this tabloid thing will continue as surely itz raking in money for the newspaper company. To make the papers sell, they will go that far to do it. And there's no authority to put some discipline on it. Unless they impose stricter laws on tabloids, this problem will remain.
Putting hidden cameras in star's changing room, that ought to be a serious offence. And they got away with it and managed to use their crime to put down the victims? Really ridiculous. Kinda like a peeping-tom accusing the victim of doing something shameful, what the hell. |

I pity the HK artistes. Foreign celebrities performed in the country and could alrdy get all these tabloids. Imagine those HK celebrities living in HK. They have to face them everyday.

tabloids. They not only profit from cooked up stories but they do not practice restraint. They often choose to not only over-exaggerate but to purposely defame for their personal profits. |
i'm from hk and i've been there, the people there aren't as 'nice', all they think of is to make money, their morality are different, it's because they struggle to find a job etc.
|
yeah, i heard of that oso... but nah~ HK are famous for that...
|
Yeah, Taiwan media is about the same, but they are more kind. This is because their media systems are modelled after a 'freedom' system - they can print whatever they want as long as it doesn't hurt society. =\
|
the "controversies" weren't even created by the newspapers. as the first post rightly said, they were created by alan tam and eason chan.
