AyuHamasaki01 22nd April 2007 02:04 PM

Oh sorry... but I also want to know what it means - the only thing that looks like it is "alternate"

alt.total-loser 22nd April 2007 02:06 PM

...is alterna Spanish for 'it alternates' or something?

idk. That word confuses me a lot.

AyuHamasaki01 22nd April 2007 02:08 PM

Yeah, I can imagine

Raiu-Ayu 22nd April 2007 02:17 PM

I think ayu just made the word up or else used it to make her own meaning of it

AyuHamasaki01 22nd April 2007 02:59 PM

:D :D :D :D

alt.total-loser 22nd April 2007 03:02 PM

^ Yes. But it has spider eggs in it. Should I go kill them?

Edit: o__o;

alternate adj. alterno

We can count that as alterna, right?

viola_123 22nd April 2007 03:12 PM

oh ok! ... alternate then... but does that title
match to the lyrics of the song?

cucumber 22nd April 2007 03:22 PM

taiwan avex's official translation of the name "alterna" is 選擇, which has the same meaning as CHOICE/ALTERNATIVE in english.
so i think "alterna" means alternatives

shippo 22nd April 2007 03:33 PM

Er... try to google alterna and u will find many interesting things! There is hair care named alterna... ^^ and species snake name alterna!

ImpactBreaker 22nd April 2007 03:40 PM

I think the name is just supposed to sound "futuristic"

Corybobory 22nd April 2007 06:21 PM

I think it's a neologism.

AyuHamasaki01 22nd April 2007 06:29 PM

maybe we should ask Ayu to write a "future-language" :D (the new engrish!)(haha, of course I'm just joking)

Chibi_Venus 22nd April 2007 07:11 PM

It's definetly Ayu's shortened version of the word "alternate" or "alternative."

yes, "alterno" is the adjective while "alterna" is the 3º person verbal form of the verb alternar (to alternate) or the adjective in femenin... so it means He/She/it alternates or well simply alternate

more or less xD

By the way, now looking at the word "alterna" is the first time i think it's a very strange word O_o xD

ImpactBreaker 22nd April 2007 08:26 PM

It's the same as in Portuguese, however I doubt she used any of those languages.

As cory mentioned, I think it's just a neologism in order to make the title sound futuristic. imo, it works well. I still think this was one of her better produced songs ever, from title, to PV, to arrangements and composition. I wonder what struck so much inspiration on ayu and her team LOL

I agree. I doubt it's a word she picked out of some dictionary...

Though, It does seem like its supposed to mean 'alternate/alternative' or 'something different that what we see'

Well, that does make sense: Something different then what we see

I mean, look at the lyrics and the PV

sakamoko 28th April 2007 01:44 AM

I thought that was a English word, but...

I'm study Latin:

Alternus - Alterna - Alternum

It mean "alternative", "alternate", "one after other"... sometimes "reciprocal"... etc.

Alterna can be singular femenine or plural neuter :P

Alterna loqui = have a conversation

IYFreak 28th April 2007 03:15 AM

for a while I've been thinking it had to do with the song falling in the "Alternative" category since it sounds like that to me in New York I passed by a store called Alterna

pinapnut 28th April 2007 03:16 AM

I always thought of it as sort of like an alternate reality, other than the norm.

so i think "alterna" means alternatives

yeah..i asked my brother and he said that 'alterna' means search for another alternatives..choice another way something like that

AyuHamasaki01 28th April 2007 07:32 AM

yeah, I mean... if you look in a dictionary the only thing that looks like Alterna is alternate

terra 28th April 2007 08:52 AM

Well, IMO 'alterna' is related to the first part of the lyric, as it is stated...

If you are afraid of changes
Watch me at a distance
Whether or not I may do something
I'm talked about behind my back
Let it be

For me, Ayu kinda developped the feeling of

"I'm changing (not as popular as before) but some people doesn't accept that as they deny it and force Ayu to fit in on to the situation, acting as 'not Ayu'. But she resist and being talked beacuse of her 'stupidity', whether she would be dumped or not..."

The thing is Ayu always sing that 'being ourselves is the best way, better than pretending to be someone' and she reflects the feeling of being wasted and neglected because of being different. As she will cahnges all the thibngs frightens her as she could so that her 'change' will stand up, and show thet this is the real me, accept me as I am

freedreamer 4th May 2007 09:22 AM
