Hamasaki Ayumi makes more money than Utada Hikaru
 

Japanese taxpayer info was released on May 16. Ayumi paid 377,610,000 yen in taxes. Her estimated income is 1,027,300,000 yen (US$8,860,000), which is about 10% less than what she made last year. Hikki paid 343,580,000 yen in taxes. Based on this her income is estimated to be 935,300,000 yen (US$8,060,000). Ayu is the 37th biggest taxpayer in Japan (last year she was 39th). Hikki's rank is 51. Ayumi's boyfriend Tomoya Nagase made about 75,190,000 yen (US$ 648,000).

yeah she certainly does make more than him but compared to what i make thats a whole lot of money.

When you earn an income from a job, you have to pay taxes on your income (you give a certain part of your income to the government). The amount of taxes you pay depends on the amount of money you earn. The more you earn, the more taxes you pay. That's basically how it works in America. I think it works in a similar way in Japan (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).
