This thread is seriously lacking posts.
Anyways, new album info, from JPM: Quote:

oh good, glad i didn't listen to listen to her singles from the album
|
The last I heard of lecca was her album "urban pirates", which I thought the cover was very cool, lol.
She pulls the Johnny Depp look quite well, hehe. xD |
|
lmao, awesome title :bchuck
|
I think the title is cool, it sounds really urban-ish, lol. :laugh

eh, could be better i guess
|
What I thought was strange about the cover was that, the bubble they used is the thinking bubble (there are different bubbles used commonly in comic strips), and yet, it is coming out of her mouth, lol.
Usually the thinking bubble is coming from a person's head, not mouth, lol, cus their ideas are coming from their brain. |

Yup, I love her too. I do hope they don't try and turn her into a standard pop artist though ... she has that voice, I want her to use it properly XD. Another Kurenai Sora would be awesome.

|
oh wow I haven't listened to lecca since Power Butterfly. I'm gonna need to catch up on her. I love her voice.
|
aaaaaaaah so excited to hear new material from her! The only songs I really liked off her last album were Landing on the Zoo/Golden Lion (I edited it into one long track and it's one of the most played on my running playlist) and Clown Love. I think I still listen to her ballad mini-album on a weekly basis. :luv2 Anyway, it'll be great to have a whole new album, I probably won't pick it up while I'm in Japan as I'd like to hear a leak first, but Sola sounds lovely!
|
I was JUST wondering if Top Junction was an album or single...at first glance I couldn't tell. This is exciting! Really hope there are some strong tracks on it!

Uploaded the new album here.
Not her best material, but it was very nice and fun to listen to. My favorite tracks so far are BLANK, MOVE, Koi Hajime and JUNCTION! |
She's releasing a new album on August 6th!

It was so strange to see a lecca thread here! And also, I'm so glad she's releasing a new album. Thanks for posting this info, x-megumi-x! I discovered her recently and have been gradually getting into her discography.
I've always been wondering, does anyone know her real name? |
^ I believe no one knows her real name, I have never seen it mentioned anywhere...
Anyway, I'm super excited for the new album! She's releasing stuff pretty fastly lately. Hopefully it will be better than TOP JUNCTION. It was not a bad album, but definitely not her best. |
^ Ah, I see. What's your favorite album by her?
|
^ City Caravan I think, or URBAN PIRATES. :)
What's yours? |
I have listened to all of her albums (I'm fairly new to her) but it's too early for me to judge which one is my absolute favorite at the moment. But for now, I definitely love URBAN PIRATES the most from what I've heard (Urban Pirates, Vallya, Dear, Let's begin and Asa no Mae being my most loved songs from that album, though all others are great as well). JUNCTION is the song that got me into her, and the first one I liked by her (well, together with Goddess in the Mountain which is also an amazing song). Though I really can't explain in words my love for JUNCTION!
Also, the reason I wanted to try her out is because I saw that some of her songs are arranged by Nao'ymt. And it doesn't surprise me those are the exact songs I like the most, though there are exceptions. I wish more people here listened to her. She has truly unique vocals. |
^ Are you Mace63 on Jpopsuki? :P
I don't know if you consider yourself as a "fan", but I'm really glad you seem to like her quite a lot. I wish more people listened to her as well. :) |
i love the promo picture . she looks amazing
|
Quote:
It's a very pleasant surprise to run into you somewhere else again! :) And yeah, I'm pretty sure I'll consider myself a lecca fan soon. I've been listening to nothing but her lately. Oh, btw, thank you again for uploading your lossless rips of her singles on the tracker, and for the recommendations, too. Turns out I really got to love all the songs you recommended (especially chouchou! I don't know how I could miss that song!). |
^ I knew it was you when you said JUNCTION was the first song you liked from her. :laugh
You're welcome, I'm glad I could have been of some help! :) |
^ Yeah, it makes sense.
Random, but do you know where I can get kanji lyrics for the song "Mirai" from her indie album? I can't seem to find it but I quite like it and from what I hear, the lyrics are really interesting. I just can't figure out some parts. |

|
^ I feel bad but seeing as you offered... I'd more than love that!
Speaking of her albums, I really think I will end up actually buying a few of them. She's really growing more and more on me. I'm so happy I gave her a chance. |
|
^You really are the best. I'll use this to make romaji and post it somewhere so it's available. Again, thank you for taking your time to do this! :thanks:
|
|
^ I'm not sure about whether I like this song. And I'm not fond of all the ass shaking by the dancers. xD
I'm still really looking forward the new album. Although I'm beginning to realize that I really do like her old discography a lot more. |
|
Holy schnikeys, that doesn't even look like her. :shakehead

WOW so pretty! She almost never puts herself on her covers! I like it
|
I saw the covers and the tracklist on her official site a few days ago and I was pleasantly surprised! I think I prefer the CD only version, which is too bad because I want to get the DVD version. xD
@Pieces_of_SEVEN What do you mean by she almost never puts herself on her covers? She's on all her covers except for Mado no Mukou and Right Direction. ^^ @x-megumi-x Thank you for sharing everything as always! I somehow never really feel compelled to reply to the thread because no one is leading any kind of real discussion anyway. :/ |
When does that album release? I haven't listened to lecca since Power Butterfly (fantastic album by the way, TSUBOMI is still one of my favorite Japanese songs of all time) so I've been meaning to catch up on her music again ^.^
|
^It's going to be released on 26th August ^^
The tough Village live dvd/blu-ray is also going to be released on the same date. But man I wish we had someone who uploaded her concerts. The only one available on JPS is POWER BUTTERFLY which I got. But I'm so curious to watch her newer lives. You know, you keep saying how TSUBOMI is one of your most favorite songs, and I've never been able to get to like it somehow, BUT lately it's really been growing on me. It's weird how it took months for me though, haha. And you should seriously listen to lecca's newer music! I also love POWER BUTTERFLY a lot, but her newer albums are amazing as well. If I recall, you were saying that you didn't like Step One as much so you stopped listening to lecca? |
TSUBOMI is soooo beautiful. I love everything about it haha. I actually stopped listening to lecca because I got too lazy to keep downloading her music. Idk what happened, but this was around the time my interest in J-Pop was dwindling and I was moving back onto Western pop music. But I still think lecca is one of the most interesting Japanese acts.
|
Quote:
|
^ Ah, yeah, I see what you mean. The Maemuki covers do make her look even more beautiful, I agree. She does tend to have good covers.
@NintendoHTF1242 I forgot to reply to you! Ahh, I don't know why I thought that you stopped listening to her after/because of Step One, I guess I remembered wrong. And I totally agree with you that she is one of the most interesting Japanese acts. I'm sooo glad I decided to check her out. ------------- As I understood right, she is releasing the song "熱ク" as a digital single and it's available on iTunes. |
Forgot how much I enjoy some of her stuff. スタートライン, 愛&lie&wine, おたくgirlsの宴, Dreaming of you, Let's begin...are all so great! Can't wait to check out this new album.
|
Maemuki PV
|
^I love it! I really can't wait for this album! The verses as usual are great, and the pre chorus.
|
Quite an interesting record. The only reggae track was the remix of live again. I'm used to hearing at least one traditional reggae track from her. There was also a notable reduction in the cheesy upbeat tracks with styles like Familia!, Chikara, and Shissou Mother. So, most of the tracks seemed pop-leaning, and even the two or three similar to Familia! were pretty mild.
There were only two tracks I couldn't sit through, which is different from tough Village, TOP JUNCTION, ZOOLANDER, and even Step One. The two tracks were Hacchake and Sono Saki no Goal (Tracks 6 and 12). Both were a little overboard. Total highlights! I absolutely loved the single selections. On first listen, live again sounds like another one of lecca's boring ballads, but the lyrics are genuinely touching and made me a little emotional. Maemuki is a great upbeat track. And I love that Your Turn at least got a lyric video. All three stand out from the rest of the album but also well represent what the rest of the record sounds like. I loved Tsumazuite Korobe, Anata ga Inai, and Kawari ni. I also really like the work done on Shine, which is a very different ballad style for lecca. I feel the lyrics are exceptionally pretty and, likely, sad or hopeful. (I don't speak or read Japanese.) On last note, regarding the missing reggae sounds, I don't like the remix of live again. It's a little too fiesta-, parade-, block-party-sounding once you know the lyrics. I genuinely thought it would sound more like the tones used in songs like Ainki and Koi Hajime, more atmospheric and string-focused... and no trumpet. I just can't imagine lyrics about looking back at past decisions, regretting those decisions, feeling that you could have done better but didn't, could truly be expressed through a trumpet... a fucking trumpet. |
Definitely a fun release. I really enjoy anata ga inai and BE AMBITIOUS!
|
@orbitalaspect
Thanks for sharing your point of view, it was an interesting read! I like the album, although I felt like tough Village had more of an "identity", and I enjoyed that album a lot more. I missed her more "cheesy" songs (I call them her "too happy" songs) like akirame onna to rare otoko, Sunshine, Scenario, Familia!, etc. Although there was Netsuku and Mrs Nanigashi, and even Hacchake (which was more like SUKI!). My favorites are live again, Anata ga Inai and Tsumazuite Korobe. Anata ga Inai reminds me a bit of JUST 1 TIME which was my favorite off tough Village. But it's still not better than most of the tracks on tough Village, which is truly my only complaint with this album. But maybe it's unfair to judge it this early. I still think live again is probably the best song on the album, though. Its bridge is the most wonderful thing on the album, and overally it's just a wonderful song. Maemuki I totally love. Netsuku and Mrs Nanigashi too. Although she does have a lot better songs in that vein. RULE was difficult to sit through (as was the whole album honestly) because of the awful production that was too apparent on this particular song. But that's something that happens on all her albums so I was not really surprised (but was sad that there was still no any improvements). Anyway, RULE itself is an okay song and reminds me of INFORMER, but it's not something I'd be listening to on its own (at least not for now). I actually really like Hacchake and I'm glad she included a song like that on this album. Be Ambitious is good, but nothing mindblowing. I agree with orbitalaspect about Shine, I liked that it's different for lecca, and it's a good song. Sono Saki no Goal I don't like, same with Kawari ni (but it is better than SSnG). Your Turn is good only because of its chorus, otherwise it didn't move me much for some reason. I totally agree on the reggae version, it change the song in not a good way and it just didn't fit anything when it comes to the song. I wish she actually made a reggae song because I really hoped for one, but no. One like Aniki, Koi Hajime or Motokare I would have really loved seeing as she doesn't have a lot of songs like that. Or even just a song like Iron Heart would have worked. Anyway, for now it's not my favorite lecca album, but it's still a very good one. |
I've always been into her, and have all her albums on my ipod. I guess I've just never really listened to most of them all the way through! I feel like there are tracks I don't even know about that I would love. What are your favorite songs from her? I love these:
ai&lie&wine スタートライン 朝のまえ おたくgirlsの宴 愛&lie&wine shopping Let's begin What a girl can do If I were your girlfriend ミソ-gal TSUBOMI snow crystals |
I like the new album but it's far from being my favorite from her. It's pretty standard. I like most of the songs but nothing really stands out to me.
I felt the same about tough Village and TOP JUNCTION. Anyway, the tracks I like the most are Anata ga Inai, Be Ambitious, Your Turn and Maemuki. I don't like Sono Saki no Goal at all, same with Kawari ni. About my favorite songs from her, I actually have a lot, but just to name a few : 蝶々 ぼくたちの世界 愛&lie&wine How 'ya feelin' 朝のまえ Goddess in the Mountain Snow Crystals 北の酒場 |
I literally love all of her songs except a few in her Hakobune mini album, just because I didn't still listen to it enough.
I love ALL of her b-sides sooo much! They make me wish that she'd still release singles. 猫視眈々, 百姫夜行, 品行崩正 and 諸業無常 are literally one of her absolutely best songs. Then the reggae ones: 二人のサイクリング, デリバメン and especially アニキ。. Beside those, my all time favorites by her are: 風と木の歌 BEAST BOY HEY MISS DESIRE Shopping Friends Urban Pirates 朝のまえ Dear a~i! Goddess in the Mountain なみだの日 UN-SOLO feat. SEEDA 北の酒場 モトカレ Gambling 証 credit ドルチェ (This one is somewhere in top 5 all time favorites) gift シナリオ 獅子奮陣 あいあん・はあと JUNCTION live again - Entire tough Village album tbh- (JUST 1 TIME, きっと大丈夫, あきらめ女とラレ男, 充分エブリディ, Soldiers feat. Spinna B-ILL, INSIDE WARRIOR, Vibes Up feat. JUMBO MAATCH are one of her best songs, really.) Then again, there are sooo many that just naming them is really useless. Most of her songs are really good. |

High Street has been released on AWA.
If you want to hear clips: https://s.awa.fm/album/ca5a4fe01dd3b...m&t=1487689203 |
Well, High Street is available on All J-Pop. And I'll share my thoughts for the approximate TWO OF US WHO ACTUALLY CARE HERE. :disappointing
01. Shinobu - 8/10 The intro is very long, but I love the breaks. This is well produced. And totally something to get moving to. :D Reminds me of Ai ni Lie ni Wine. 02. woman - 8/10 The ONLY gripe I have with this song is that the beat doesn't have more depth during the chorus. It would benefit from having a Bad Romance-type / MASAYUME CHASING-type romper through the chorus. 03. Do Mannaka (lit. In the Middle) - 6/10 There's nothing too memorable for me here. But I generally expect this to be case at this point in a lecca album. 04. Zanzou (lit. Afterimage - a vivid sensation that lingers after an experience) - 7/10 I love this beat. Still not a song we'll look back after years and think of as iconic of lecca, but the production here is among the best we've heard from lecca. 05. Looking for U - 10/10 A beautiful throwback to Saisei (from Step One). Not as much momentum as Saisei, but certainly a song I'll remember from lecca. Any fan of hers knows how certain songs (Saisei, JUNCTION) exemplify the power of lecca's work. This is a gorgeous reminder of those tracks. And I think we can all relate to the lyrics "Looking for you for the rest of my life / Looking for you in the face of others"... 06. Taiyou no Shisen (lit. Sun's Line of Sight) - 7/10 It's like a mix of Chikara and SKY IS THE LIMIT. Lecca doing classic lecca. 07. believe - 10/10 Probably the most Western-sounding song so far, but it's fresh for lecca. And the best part is that lecca can pull this sound off without it sounding so far from her reggae/hip-hop roots. This is also the shortest song on the album. 08. GARBAGE - 6/10 Throwback to the style of Maemuki's album-only tracks (her last album). This is tighter though. Nothing memorable here though. 09. Single Michi (lit. Single Road) - 8/10 This is totally a throwback to tracks like Chikara / SOLA / Golden Lion / Familia! . It's real late in the album for one of these songs. They usually come WAY sooner in the track list. This has a clean, fresh feel to it though. It's similar, but still noticeably different. 10. RUN THROUGH - 5/10 It's not bad, but it's not memorable. I actually like the outro to the song more than the rest of the song. 11. Perfect - 10/10 I know this won't be remembered as one of lecca's best ballads, but it's among them. Being the only true ballad on this album, it stands out even more. Reminds me of live again. Very inspirational. And what a beautiful melody. 12. Tenchira ni Aru Mirai (lit. Future in the Palm) - 7/10 Similar to Kitto Daijoubu (#4) from tough Village. Not as catchy chorus. It sounds like it's in the wrong place on the album. OVERALL - 12 songs, album average rating: 7.6/10 STANDOUTS - Looking for U, believe NO CLIPPING. ON ANY SONG. In fact, every song so far is extremely well produced. This is the most professional, articulate sound we've gotten on a lecca album in her career. Most of these songs are very uplifting. The only truly emotional track is Looking for U. And I hope people will remember Looking for U as a standout song from this album. I wish it would have been one of the two PVs. I can easily imagine shots of lecca walking through Tokyo at night to this song. Overall, I'm glad to hear a new lecca album. I hope she incorporates more of the sounds from Shinobu and believe into her next album. I'm impressed with the production most of all. And I hope she keeps this quality moving forward. |
Quote:
Looking for U is definitely the best song on the album, I wish there were more like it. At first I liked the album a lot, but now I don't find most songs that appealing. |
Quote:
But I think we can both agree lecca's records don't get the automation treatment they desperately need. I think they rely too much on limiters and compression than manually working with individual tracks to get the best mix. :\ |
Well yeah, I can agree with most of that. The album definitely is more pleasant to ears than most of her older ones. It's just that the overall sound to me is very similar to how her albums have been produced since almost forever. I'm really curious to see whether the sound engineers were the same, which I have a feeling that they are.
|
Quote:
And lecca's a good songwriter. That's what makes the lack of investment in her records so disappointing at times. |
urgh I'm dying to get home and listen to it. I've been traveling for two months for work and haven't heard any new music so this will be really nice to come home to!
