Which artist/band is so underrated???

hmmm... who just doesn't get enough attention and appreciation?

mink - inspirational
chihiro onitsuka - ditto
lifehouse - that's what i call music...
Kelly Rowland - in DC, in my eyes, she was the center of it all
Yellowcard - grrrrrrrrrrreat songs, lyrics, and music arrangement.

aaaaah brain fart. forget who else i wanted to put up. i'll b bak.

AyumiSEASONS 25th June 2007 07:40 PM

Flyleaf - Seriously, I never thought I'd listen to Christian rock, but their amazing.

Kaori Natori - Her R&B songs are amazing

ARIA - Same as above

Miz - I usually don't listen to J-rock, but she's awesome <3

Okuda Miwako- She deserves recognition for her innovative debut album. Her songs dealt with so many issues not normally discussed in Japanese Pop/Rock. She also puts an insane amount of emotion into her singing. Her voice isn't really what I'd call the best, but it's just so inspired that it grasps you. Her second album is complete and utter, bland ballad garbage though so avoid that one ;)

P!nk- At least in the US, she really isn't as popular as she should be. I'm Not Dead was her best album yet, but for some reason it just isn't working for a lot of the younger crowd. It's unfortunate because she's an absolutely brilliant artist with so much talent vocally and creatively.

Kylie Minogue- Also in the US. She's the hugest thing to ever hit Australia and I understand that she's pretty huge in Europe as well, but no one here knows her for anything but CGYOOMY and Love at First Sight. It's unfortunate because IMO she's just a more dancy, less creative, but less b*tc*y version of Madonna.

Stacie Orrico- Despite the fact that a good deal of her material is Christian, the girl just doesn't sell too well in the US. Many people haven't even heard of her here, and the few that have only know her for (there's gotta be) More to Life. Her voice is gorgeous and her music is fantastic, even her underground Christian debut where every song is pretty much "Praise God!"

Monica: People know her for her part in "The Boy Is Mine" but she hasn't had the same popularity since, and I don't think her most recent album did all that well, despite the fact that it was very good. I think she has one of the best female voices in R&B, but nobody gives her credit.

I'm sure there are others, but I just can't think of them right now.

sora2522 25th June 2007 08:22 PM

omg mink and chihiro onitsuka definitely
hmm...misono, too. her songs are pretty good, but her singles are doing so horribly
angela aki is getting a bit of attention...but i think her fanbase can grow even more =D

I did admittedly only get into her after 'Stuck', but have since become a huge fan. I can't believe she's not too popular. Her voice is really good, as are her songs.

Princess Superstar - My Machine = Most fantastically warped album ever. She should be a regular on the charts.

Anastacia is semi popular in the UK and big in Europe, but apparently not much so in the U.S. Madness.

austin. ♥ 25th June 2007 09:51 PM

sifow :D
and omg.. Michelle Williams!
she's amazing!
and um.. Natasha Beddingfield new stuff is falling on it's face :[[
it's a shame.. Unwritten [the album] got to #1 in the UK and her new album N.B. peaked at #23! :scry
Paris Hiltonnnnn.. some of her stuff like "Nothing In This World" made last summer for me :P
didn't buy the album though..
like Lily Allen said, "anyone who bought Paris Hilton's album should be killed off." :laugh!
love Lily Allen!

I agree with Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams (both should be worldwide superstars like Beyoncé), Pink & Anastacia (US-wide).
Even though her last album was #1 in the US, which doesn't equal as underrated, India.Arie is superstar-material as well.
Kelis, Christina Milian and Amerie deserve to be more popular too.

Weslicious 25th June 2007 10:18 PM

Is Michelle Williams still doing Gospel only songs? I can kind of see why she'd not sell on the general market, but she must be popular among her target audience.

Is Kelis as big in the US. I know in the UK her singles do well, but her albums don't match the sales :S
'Kelis Was Here' was my Western album of 2006. Amazing.

Isn't she popular in japan though?

austin. ♥ 25th June 2007 10:29 PM

Weslicious Kelis Was Here peaked at #41 in the UK, #96 in Australia and #10 n USA because of suprise sucess of Bossy but dropped into the top 40 the week spending only 6 weeks in the top 100 :/
it was such a good album too :scry

Weslicious 25th June 2007 10:33 PM

It was amazing. Although I guess the chart positions answer my question, if she reached her highest in the US.

It's odd though. Lil' Star got a heck of a lot of air-play in the UK, and did well on itunes. I'd have thought that would have helped get the album back in the charts.
She should have released 'Blindfold' over here aswell as US.

Papa Knowles has been pushing the contemporary album back and back, plus she has those darn critics to impress day in and day out with her musicals.
Her target audience wasn't that impressed with her by the time of Do You Know due to Bootylicious not being the cup of tea of some Christian groups or something.
(How ironic, while I was writing this message, I read that Kelis said that she would like to do a gospel album on the Wikipedia page of her new album. :D)

Stick was got me hooked as well, but after that I looked for everything else by her and bought all three of her CDs. I actually just purchased the Japanese version of Beautiful Awakening last week. The cover's way better and it has bonus tracks.

Exactly, which I find odd. Proportionally, far more people know her in Japan than America.

Barbarellacult 16th July 2007 06:28 AM

I'll go with Kelis. The only thing I knew about her was the "Milkshake" song. I gave her Kelis Was Here and Tasty albums a try and I really like her now. Also I'd definatley have to say the most underrated artist is Happy Rhodes. She has one of the best voices I've ever heard and yet, you can't find her in stores. (well, unless someone gets one of her cd's online and sells it.)

mishidabo 16th July 2007 06:43 AM

Yellowcard they make such amazing songs, and yet they dont get much of spotlight after ocean avenue ( yeah maybe its because the following album to OA was absolute utter crap) but their new album is just totally awesome.

slashess 16th July 2007 08:24 AM

Godsmack - they just rock and they kick ass!!! No one nowdays can rock out as hard as they can when it comes to neo-grunge...:P

spookshow 16th July 2007 08:28 AM

Robyn -- quirky, funky, and brilliant! such emotion too!

sora2522 16th July 2007 08:59 AM

RURUTIA

her songs are like...heavenly
prolly it's juts cuz she's not like otehr artists, where her songs leak uber early and half her songs have pvs with them...

bernardation 16th July 2007 09:26 AM

Anastacia (in the US)

She's an amazing vocalist and she's got a whole lotta spunk. It still boggles my mind why she isn't successful here apart from the whole Celene Dion thing.

YumeHamasaki 25th July 2007 08:39 PM

Chrisette Michele... she's pretty much one of the best singers out in the r&b world who is still fresh and new. She's got a beautiful soulful voice and she knows how to make it soft, strong, and everything. It's unique and she's got her own style and everything. she featured in a song with JaY-Z but he didn't pay much attention to her but instead to Rihanna's skinny bootyshakin umbrella wavin self. chrisette deserves so mcuh more than Rihanna does, Rihanna is much skinnier but has no talent compared to chrisette.

paper_doll 26th July 2007 12:50 AM

I think Fair to Midland are really underrated. I was lucky to see them open for Dir en grey in February and I thought there were amazing. Most of the fanbase seemed to really dislike them and preferred Bleed the Dream (who I missed). Just bought their CD recently and it's really awesome.

bernardation 26th July 2007 06:20 AM

thirteen senses, anyone?

spookshow 27th July 2007 11:57 AM

Eisbrecher -- brilliant german metal band -- deserve the same recognition Rammstein gets

Lifehouse was popular a few years back--so too with Yellowcard. And, again, with Godsmack...

Foetus, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Faun Fables, The Dresden Dolls, Regina Spektor (though she and DDolls did get a popularity spike, it's nowhere NEAR what they deserve), Murder by Death, Katatonia and The Life and Times. These bands are pretty much superior to anything that gets mainstream attention these days.
