If we tell too much
The truth becomes blurred
Because words are sometimes so powerless
And disturb our thoughts

You see? Please don't ask me
You see? If I was right

Yes, I go
Whatever unreasonable place may be waiting for me
And even if it may sound sadly to your heart
That I'll just have to remain myself

The road I chose when I was young
Was that of no turning back
That was the first and the last resolution
The future was yelling in the distance

You see? My past self of that day
You see? Is nodding behind me

Yes, I go
I walk on with my chin up without looking back nor running away
Some day you will understand
That I'll just have to remain myself

The wind is blowing strongly against me
The cold is piercing me unusually
Now I reach out straight and forward
With my hand numbed with freezing cold

Yes, I go
Whatever unreasonable place may be waiting for me
I must accept myself
That I'll just have to remain myself

I would say yes, but I wonder if "(The) Me from that day/Is nodding behind me" or "I from that day/Am nodding behind me" wouldn't be more accurate? I'm no native English speaker, though...

masa 18th September 2007 11:55 AM

You are welcome.

>I on the day IS nodding behind me

I myself feel that this part is a little odd. But I don't know how to correct it. I'd like to get some advices from English-speaking people.

kiseki89 18th September 2007 12:00 PM

I don't think you should use 'is' if you want be grammatically correct.
Yeah I on the day is nodding behind me - does sound a little weird...

Anyway thanks for providing the translations - this is meaningful

elepop 18th September 2007 12:12 PM

Thanks masa!

Interesting lyrics. Very powerful.

AyumiFanGuy 18th September 2007 12:24 PM

Masa-san,

Here's what I think:

"You see? I on the day
You see? Is nodding behind me"

I think that, contextually, the meaning of this (excluding "you see?") paired with the verse prior to it is that her self in the past is agreeing with her present self. If that's correct, then it would almost be better to word it like so:

"You see? I on that day
You see? Am nodding nodding behind me" (or "Am nodding toward/at me", but that's probably not the meaning of the Japanese word...)

Grammatically, in English you would't say "I, on that day, is nodding behind me" because it's incorrect English. The proper phrasing of that sentence would be "I, on that day, am nodding behind me." Hope that helps. It is grammatically incorrect to say "I is" - "I am" is the correct way to say it. ^_^

thanks masa. now when i get home from school i have to put them on http://www.hectichamasaki.weebly.com. XD

no i dont think so.

"on that day" ... that isnt present-tense. so oyu cant say "am" because it IS present tense. still ,it dosent work out.

it could bee ...

"I, on that day, will be nodding behind me"
or
"I, on that day, was nodding behind me"

AyumiFanGuy 18th September 2007 12:53 PM

Oops...good point. I got caught up in the linguistics and missed how Masa translated it. *innocent*

CREA 69 18th September 2007 01:29 PM

Thank you masa!

vitamin.ben 18th September 2007 08:14 PM

Quotin Impracticable:
Quote:

"I, on that day, will be nodding behind me"
or
"I, on that day, was nodding behind me"
Those wouldn't fit well cause, as far as i can understand it's somethin, literally, like:

Neee, that day's me, you see?
neeee, is nooding at my back.

So the nooding action happens in present time, performed by past-ayu over present-ayu.

So, I think the most suitable would be:

You see?
Myself, from that day, is nodding at my back.

obs: I'm a not a native english speaker, and also i'm not a japanese native speaker. I just use english a lot and i'm takin' all the efforts i can onto learning japanese.

ps: weee my first post in ash =D (thanks Masa for all those years of translations, i've learnt and i'm learning a lot from you :thud)

SilentSmiles 18th September 2007 10:35 PM

I like the lyrics ;D
Thank you very much, masa! ;D

masa 19th September 2007 11:54 AM

"te(i)ru" in this case is a present progressive form, so I think it's incorrect to use past or future form. How about this?

My past self on (or of) that day is nodding behind me

Impracticable 19th September 2007 12:22 PM

i think it would make more sense to say "My past self of that day ..." but im not totally sure.

maybe i will ask my english teacher since i am going to school in like 10 mninutes. XD

Ani_C 21st September 2007 03:25 AM
