[News] Ayu has the highest earnings of the year

Rough translation: With regards to the earnings of female celebrities in the Japan industry, Ayu currently top the list with an earning of 400 million yen this year. Koda Kumi came in 2nd with an earning of 350 million yen. If her current sales could continue, she will have a high chance of surpassing Ayu next year. 3rd place are namely Hitomi Kuroki and Yukie Nakama with earnings of 130 million yen.

YAY!!! CONGRATS TO AYU that she can get number one position again...YAY!!!

jon_the_d 14th November 2007 01:25 PM

wow! lots of shopping money for ayu!

+random holidays to hawaii and LA etc....

what a life style....maybe she needs a luggage carrier boy...

Yukitora 14th November 2007 01:36 PM

You think the ASIA tour was really that profitable? Koda kumi has released quite more and had been very tour-active year...

ayu1m 14th November 2007 01:37 PM

Roughly ~2,400,000€

Not bad :)

ruixiong89 14th November 2007 01:45 PM

That's surprising! I mean her sales haven't been as what they have been in the past and yet she still comes out tops? Must be the A Nation goods and her tours! :D Oh, and her having more influence in Asia.

I think although Ku-chan is tour active this year, I think Ayu fans are still much more crazy than Ku fans! I'm still back to the same argument, I believe Ku is the "top female artiste of the moment" but then Ayu has a more established base. Maybe that's the reason Ayu still earns more.

ayumisrael 14th November 2007 01:55 PM

I knew that ayu is the most profitting artist of the year.
After avex trax released this issue about A BEST 2 project being the most entering project of the year, it's like umm duh? XD
After 9 years and ayu is the most earning artist of the year... wow.
The ASIA TOUR brought a huge profit as well it seems.
Even hikki's digital sales aren't appearing as so much money proffiting...

darkswordz 14th November 2007 02:04 PM

Considering how expensive A BEST II is and how little cost it take to produce the compilation album, this is no surprise and kumi is now putting up a good fight :P thanks alot by the way for the news :D

elepop 14th November 2007 02:26 PM

Thanks for sharing. Very close to Koda!

alternarist 14th November 2007 02:33 PM

i guess if ayu didnt spend so much in her LV products in HK during the ASIA TOUR, she could have saved more!

CHAS_AYU 14th November 2007 02:41 PM

Yeah!
Ayu is the BEST!

Raleigh 14th November 2007 02:58 PM

Guess her tours I'm not surprised though the fact that people think Kumi will reach Ayu next year is odd. Her sales are sliding and I'm suspecting next year they won't improve much.

dayumi 14th November 2007 02:59 PM

Great for her!! Probably Together when... will help..

ayu_fan929 14th November 2007 03:02 PM

What's the source of these numbers though? Japan's tax agency stopped giving out numbers since 2004. (Those are the most reliable)

takamioda 14th November 2007 03:37 PM

yup, so great!! oh our Dear Ayu's the best :X

Miku 14th November 2007 04:22 PM

A bit more than 50 thousand.

ayumisrael 14th November 2007 09:35 PM

And kumi got her popularity after ayu's popularity decreased...
It isn't a good sign for kumi =\
I'm happy that at least ayu is still hugely popular...

zoomzoom 14th November 2007 09:35 PM

Good for her. Thats like 3,6 million dollars

evolution7931 14th November 2007 09:41 PM

3,583,263$US
Hm, I thought Ayu was richer than that.. is that even considered a lot for a celeb? I dunno, I thought she'd get like $10 million a year..

$3.5 million thats like.. a house. A nice house, but.. a house.

ayumisrael 14th November 2007 09:46 PM

^Well she must have millions of savings from past years...
Specially from 1999~2004, and she already has a house I suppose so can use it for other stuff and keep living up up there XD

It's a lot for a Japanese celebrity. Japanese celebrities recieve alot less than American artists do, even if they are high sellers because the Japanese music industry's business structure is very different from the American one.

I agree! Ayu is still the best and the fans are very loyal!

Beauty4123 14th November 2007 10:39 PM

congrats to ayumi.

yeah! absolutely the best!
and for all of us, lets keep on the 'loyal' thing for the next 10years or maybe more, as long as ayu still in the business and releasing new materials!
lets keep supporting her and show the world who is the real Queen (at least in Asia)

mui-gei-tal 14th November 2007 11:22 PM

she's so wealthy *_*

Bigtop 14th November 2007 11:27 PM

Both Ayu and Kuu are doing their best - they're the best and hottest female Japanese pop soloists in Japan and around Asia. I hope they do well...

IYFreak 15th November 2007 12:49 AM

Does this mean Ayu will get the Oricon award this year for best selling artost?

and I hope someone doesn't say that she can't because she doesn't accept awards. Your not nominated for this award.

SilentSmiles 15th November 2007 01:25 AM

Yay for Ayu! :D

extepan 15th November 2007 01:28 AM

ummmm that's very good news! i wish ayu shared some of her money with me.

AyuGAME 15th November 2007 01:49 AM

i think with that amount of money in just one year, i can rest up for the rest of my life without working anymore...haha

Dgirl 15th November 2007 01:51 AM

ya~ayu is quite good at making money!
congratuation to her!

evolution7931 15th November 2007 02:07 AM

Omg it saddens me unbelievebly how Ayu's pretty much getting paid welfare wages compared to Western artists who don't even sell nearly as much as she does. Or work as hard as she does..

andre2907 15th November 2007 02:08 AM

WTH? I'm totally sure there's something wrong with this, where's Hikki?? She has a killer contract and she did sell a whole lot of singles and digital downloads this year.

Kodayumi 15th November 2007 02:39 AM

ahh congrats to ayu :D

A single which sells 650k copies and costs 1,200 yen will not pull in nearly as much money as two albums which sell 700k copies and cost 45,000 yen.

It doesn't really sadden me. If we think about these social issues, there are people in this world who work (insert ayu salary here) times more than ayu, and even if they spent 1000 years working, they wouldn't still get that ammount she gets in a year. Sad, but the truth.

Yes, but Hikki has her copyright royalties and her insane downloads.

That's so true. She's rich enough and has money to buy her clothes and travel around. She's probably happy enough about that.

freedreamer 15th November 2007 09:15 AM

AMAZINGGGGGGG!
im surprised too....A BEST 2 was really gd then....maybe there were some digital sales as well?...
Probably the Avex noticed Ayu's digital sales had increased...so they...yea prolly

but this is not related to it right? She made the most money this year but that doesn't mean she sold the most right? and the best selling artist award is to the one who sold the most and not earned the most. (Correct me if I'm wrong...lol)

LacusClyne 15th November 2007 09:30 AM

i guess ayu gets most of her money from the concert. singers can a lot of concerts and cms

And as for her being top artist yeah Ku is right now but think about it: Ku is releasing like a ***** these days and that's what getting her the attention but even her sales have dropped a large amount. Ayu on the other hand still has 9 years worth of loyal fans who will make sure that she's still queen :P

Actually, Koda has recently had a lot more endorsement deals than Ayu. Ayu is pretty much only Panasonic now and Morinaga-Weider occasionally. Since endorsement deals are a lot more simple deal than royalities and all that, I'm sure Kuu is pulling quite a nice piece of the pie.

As far as it comes to Hikki, it's possible she denied any kind of inlook to her earnings or even any information that could be a source for estimation.

Since that whole 'highest taxpayers' list ceased few years ago, and while, as I bet, performers don't really go around telling everyone how much they earn, all these numbers must be just speculations.

juunigatsu 15th November 2007 01:36 PM

ooooh yes Im so proud of her! :D:D

For Utada Hikaru, it probably will. Just look at her past earning, even in years she did absolutely nothing she was still, by far, the top earner.

Ayu_no_tenshi 15th November 2007 09:05 PM

that's like $4mil USD

im sure those reports left out her product endorsements, those added up would totally surpass the reported earnings she has

Beauty4123 15th November 2007 11:11 PM

i honestly do not even care about what kuu or ayu gets, as far as promotion goes. i like both artists, i listen to their music, and that's it. why can't it be that simple to other people? just enjoy the music and that's it. that's how i see it. maybe i'm not such a "serious" fan or whatever, i dunno.

and even though kuu or hikki didn't sell as much as ayu, so what? they still are famous enough to actually sell their singles and get good enough sales. it's not their fault sales declined this year. it's just happening. not to them only, but to ayu and lots of artists.

devilayu 16th November 2007 01:45 AM

OK, unfortunately, this is something that I've said in MANY threads but this is the one and only time I'll say it in this one:

Certain comments and feelings have been reported to the staff regarding Ayu & Koda Kumi. Why is it that fans have to constantly pit these two artists & their fans against each other? It's unnecessary 99% if the time that I see it in this forum, and it has caused problems in threads and between initiates. Some posts have been split to quell any underlying tension. We'll have no choice but to close threads if this keeps happening.

We're all Ayu fans here but really, keep it civil, grow up, and respect other artists. Plus, Ayu vs. Kumi is getting so old.

AyuGAME 16th November 2007 03:15 AM

^agree 100%

While neither make "great music", composition wise, I think Ayu's is very interesting for a mainstream pop act, and is more varied from rock to pop to classical, hence being wider reaching.

Cool, I guess. Mediocre sales along with successful sometimes-sold-out tours can really do wonders for earnings!

Depends on who exactly do you want to compare. The entertainment industry in Japan isn't as big as in USA, it's natural the performers cash sagnificantly less in comparison (although some definately get more for the same gigs - i.e. tv comedians), besides Ayu is obviously less popular now, she's not everywhere like she used to be.

Also, there's the tendency in the west that recording artists do not get paid a lot despite high record sales, depending on how much input they have in their work and what kind of deals they have. Seeing how Ayu doesn't sell as much as she used to and how she seems to be getting more and more expensive on avex, I think she's doing pretty fine when it comes to earnings.

TITANIC 20th November 2007 09:34 AM

so, i hope she'll get the highest earn this year for all japanese entertain

yoshino 20th November 2007 03:05 PM
