Thoughts on Mirrorcle World PV?

So doobie's uploaded it to jpopsuki, so many of us should've downloaded it by now. Thoughts on the PV?

It's such a step up from GUILTY's PV's, seriously, she's definately bringing sexy back. The song suits the Paris background IMO and she's looking more gorgeous than ever! Especially in the massive red dress and the lingerie? scene! The only complaint I have is with the doves flying when shes in the red dress. My jaw was on the floor the whole time the PV was on XDD

Okay, because there was so many WTF?! comments at this PV, new posters should read this post by Idealist, it's an amazing analysis of the PV and it makes sense ^-^

Here is my analysis of the Mirrorcle World PV--

I don't think it's random at all. This is a very deep video. The song's lyrics are also important for understanding its meaning. All of the elements are chosen specifically to talk about Ayu's feelings and thoughts about the future. Not just her own personal future, but the future of mankind. Once you look at the video from the perspective of representing Ayu's internal discussion about the technological singularity, it all makes sense.

Briefly, there is a theory that our technology and ability to share information is increasing at an exponential rate; our technology allows us to create more advanced technology, which allows us to create even more advanced technology, etc., and in the not too distant future we will inevitably reach a point where the speed at which we gain new knowledge becomes nearly infinite and we transcend our bodies. That is the technological singularity.

Elements of this concept have been explored in Japanese pop culture before, for example in the anime series Ghost in the Shell and Neon Genesis Evangelion. In the west, one major example of pop culture touching on the singularity is The Matrix, which Ayu intentionally references with a couple aspects of the video.

Mirrorcle World starts out depicting a number of men who are direct references to the "agents" of The Matrix. This is important as it helps to explain the context of the video. These are beings of technology, who record information, and not in the way that human beings have had for most of our history. The seek to control information.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...d/00-01-05.jpg

We see a very quick shot of Ayu in lingerie, but aren't given a context for this yet, but it does come later. This is the first of Ayu's five aspects in this video.

Next, we hear a modem dialing in. This is very important, because it tells us that what we are seeing in the video is not the real world; it is, instead, a virtual, electronic world, a "Mirrorcle World", a marvelous echo of the real thing. We are shown an aspect of Ayu, which likely represents her adventurousness in wanting to explore this new world of possibilities; she makes simple, factual statements, and asks simple questions, like so:

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...d/00-01-07.jpg

These lines express her wonder at the world; note also the emphasis on the "future".

These lines express what she has heard from other people. These lines are in reference to fears people have about the singularity; is it the beginning for mankind, or the end? There is a choice between giving up our physical bodies, or hanging on to them. Ayu is asked if she is "shrugging" it off because she is calm about it, or because she despairs about it.

Next we see that first aspect of Ayu, finally given context.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...d/00-02-25.jpg

Here we have a representation of Ayu's body, or more specifically, of Ayu thinking about her body. Note the emphasis on her physical sexual appeal, and also the fact that the view of Ayu is in a mirror. She is thinking about her physical body, which she would have to give up if she simply became her disembodied consciousness.

Next we are introduced to a third Ayu aspect, which is her analytical mind.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...d/00-02-31.jpg

Our view of this aspect is entirely on her head, all of the expression she conveys are with facial body language and hand gestures involving her head. She asks deeper, more cautious questions.

She expresses concern about whether people can cope with the era of the singularity.

We're shown another aspect of Ayu:

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...d/00-02-44.jpg

Her sudden appearance in a red dress may seem random, but it is likely a reference to "the woman in the red dress" from The Matrix. She is the Ayu that asks questions about what to do; the Ayu of choice and decision.

Here is the crux of the entire issue, and once I thought about this line in context with the rest of the song and the video, everything finally made sense. This is exactly the question that one must ask themselves when thinking about the possibility of the singularity.

Basically, if she decides to leave her body, should she just pretend she can still "see" it, that it still exists; or is the body really significant anyway? Is she her body, or is she more than her body?

She wonders if she should fight against the inevitable march of progress towards the singularity or not. She doesn't want to just "run away" from the question, and from the future, she wants to be an active participant in it and not a victim of fate.

Now we have her dropping a handkerchief, which is picked up by the "agents"; one concern about the singularity is that it will fundamentally strip us of our privacy due to the fact that all of humanity's knowledge will be shared instantaneously. Already in the present we see the ease with which personal information is accessed online.

The "agents" represent those malignant forces that would take personal information and use it to control others. They search for Ayu-choice, because they do not want her to be free to make the choice to realize her potential; with the singularity, all information will become free from their grasp. Ayu-choice is with doves. This is more difficult to get a definite interpretation of, but it may be representative of Ayu being "at peace" and not feeling threatened by the "agents".

Ayu-mind appears again, and talks about her thoughts.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...d/00-03-41.jpg

She is thinking about the world we are in now, at the present, before the singularity occurs. We don't know everything, so, our pace is limited.

"That way" doesn't refer to her previous statement; it refers to the singularity. Ayu is thinking that it will clear the path for all people to reach their full potential.

Ayu-mind has reached a conclusion, and Ayu-adventurousness decides to act on it:

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...d/00-03-56.jpg

She "shatters" the mirror (Ayu-body, if you recall, was located in a mirror), because she has decided to embrace the singularity. We see Ayu-choice rejoice, and Ayu-body is in distress, mourning the loss of her relevance; she is not so attractive now.

The choice isn't without consequences--we are introduced to the final aspect of Ayu, her future, where she must contend with the negative forces of this brave new world.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...d/00-04-12.jpg

They trap her in the phone booth. The phone booth symbolizes traditional means of communication, as we have now; the agents trap her, not wanting to give her freedom. Ayu-future echoes her earlier lines in the song, this time the sentiments of those malicious agents, who stand to gain by Ayu-future giving up and remaining in their control. They tell her just to continue on as she is, in their control.

But Ayu is saved from this fate.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...d/00-04-47.jpg

She is not alone in this Mirrorcle World, and allies arrive to assist her, and shine a light on the misdeeds of those exploiting her vulnerability. She gives one last glance back to the phone booth, her past and our present, before getting in the car with her friends, driving off into the mists of the future.

Ayu-mind wonders:

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...d/00-04-55.jpg

Is it because she's so strong personally that she can face the future without suffering? Or...is it because of those others alongside her, who lend her their strength, as all people join together?

We hear a final tinkle of a connection signing off as the video ends.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...d/00-05-11.jpg

Ultimately it is a very optimistic view of the future, and one that I strongly identify with. Oh, and why shoot the video in Paris? What better location for a fantastic place which Ayu is foreign to? As the virtual Mirrorcle World is to the physical world, so is Paris to Tokyo for Ayu.

Put in spoiler tags because it's so long~

tethevo 18th March 2008 07:12 PM

Meh

Yes. Individual looks are good. The background of Paris is great. BUT, it's so underwhelming to me.

I'm usually not picky with her PVs...but I guess I expected more. The shots are too random. I don't buy the whole I-must-interpret-it-as-something-insanely-deep crap this time. Even fierce-walking Ayu is not enough. Not a similar example but I think ourselves had more of an impact than this PV...and this song is supposed to be fierce!

I still like the song but...hm.

(I think GUILTY PVs are better.)

Draggi 18th March 2008 07:40 PM

to be honest..
i have no words..
it's absolutely amazing..
i can feel this pure energy and the strong lyrics..
it is indescribeable...

milky_way 18th March 2008 07:41 PM

Ayu's pretty in the PV, but that's all it's got going for it :/
I should've stuck with the CD-only :(

stickyrice 18th March 2008 07:43 PM

I gotta say... I'm a little underwhelmed =\ she looked good and the scenery was beautiful but...that's it. I didn't understand a thing. And the beginning was funny haha. And I swear the lingerie scene looked like she was having an orgasm with her flipping her hair back and what not XD Funny video. Oh well...

Raiu-Ayu 18th March 2008 07:44 PM

I really think it's disappointing. I mean they went the whole way to Paris and didn't really do anything different 0_0.

ayu in hat and coat - I liked the idea but I would have liked it better at night. And it is plainly obvious that she cannot walk properly in those heels!!
ayu in big red dress - Did not get the point of it at all but still think it would have looked better at night
ayu in dark room - I loved this bit and it barely even got included! The whole PV could have been done with this setting! It was great!!
ayu in phone box - Liked it but I still preferred the dark room bit better

I did like the PV but i was expecting something better.

tenshi no hane 18th March 2008 07:45 PM

The outfits and scenery were beautiful but that was it. I'm sorry to say it but she acted like an idiot...messing up her face by over-acting, her hands were all over the place >.> especially the bridge part.
Ayu can look very fierce but now she just overdid it imo. You don't have look like a fish when you're singing.

The PV's look beautiful and the guys were amusing. If Ayu hadn't overacted that much then it would've been a great PV.

CHAS_AYU 18th March 2008 07:51 PM

The PV is amazing! Ayu looks gorgeous!

KLJames 18th March 2008 07:52 PM

abit disappointed...

beautiful dress, ayu sexy pose, i like all the part where got ayu inside, esp in the scene when just start showing ayu inside the telephone booth, that standing pose so sexy...

but honestly, the male actor inside totally useless inside, esp intro, the editing didn't bring out the exciting part..

and the part when ayu hair cover with black feather, ermm, that part just too closed up to ayu face... plus too white... can't really c d hairstyle inside...

70% / 100%

Madden-X 18th March 2008 07:56 PM

She's pretty, sure.. but that's not gonna make a PV good or anything, mind you people

And well.. as expected she's now in the stage where she does everything to make herself look extra good (lingerie.. fierce walking, fierce looks.. fierce this.. fierce that)

OogoeDiamond 18th March 2008 08:05 PM

Nice PV! I like moments with phone and in Red dress. Ayu looks good as hooker xD

Mai82Go 18th March 2008 08:06 PM

Well, I really like it. It's just a PV not a short movie like glitter & fated so what if nothing overly exciting is happening? I think Ayu's sexy & beautiful. And I love the thought of Mirrorcle-World-Ayu calling Ladies-Night-Ayu who drops the phone in shock ;)!

s1012h 18th March 2008 08:06 PM

I thought it was pretty horrendous. It's like (don't) Leave me alone meets Koda Kumi meets Ningyo-hime.
The song is good, but the PV has nothing to do with it.

And the fishnets and touching herself... kinda weird haha
She looks hot, but it just isn't her.

ruixiong89 18th March 2008 08:52 PM

Beautiful individual segments! That is undeniable, I think! All the different dresses are really pretty and she looks fantastic in them!

Biggest complaint though is that it's really random. And when I say random, I mean REALLY random! The colour saturation of the PV is everywhere. At the start, it's desaturated, then other shots have it saturated. And in that one with feathers, it's oversaturated. I seriously don't understand what's the point of doing this. Makes the whole PV all the more disjunct.

Ayu overreacting definitely made the PV worse (not that much but at certain junctures, I think she's really deranged, THOUGH to be honest, I enjoy watching her go nuts in that phone booth! Those 'fierce looks' are really interesting to watch! They're serious, yet funny at the same time!) And I really wanted to LMAO when she was in her red dress and running away! She really looks rather hilarious!

Not to mention the UGLY titling of the PV. I seriously expected a whole lot more from this PV. I mean, they went to Paris and all, why couldn't it even top a studio PV like Moments? That's the puzzling thing. It being in Paris doesn't really help the PV at all.

Indeed, Mirrorcle World. Just like the song, the PV too is really random. Individual looks really really work! But this is like, she released 5 different PVs and some fan just finished cutting and gluing them together to get "Mirrorcle World"!

Nonetheless, still really digging the song and the PV. I really like how empowering the song sounds, which will kind of explain her over-reacting in the PV. Mixing orchestra with rock does make for a deadly combination.

PV: 7/10 (Really really interesting, but it could have been so much better! Nonetheless, still an A grade for Ayu! Simply because this PV itself is hell loads still better than most PVs out there! The only competition that she really has is pretty much herself.)

AmyRoseM 18th March 2008 08:58 PM

It was alright. Its definitely pretty. But she did over-act. It's rather hilarious. I still love it though! :)

ruixiong89 18th March 2008 09:00 PM

Biggest disappointment for me though was how they handled the PV at the point where the glass breaking sound occurs! Just LOOK at Ayu! Her snaring and ripping of her coat out is just HILARIOUS! :D

I could just die laughing at it! Yup, that could have really been executed much better!

Melrose 18th March 2008 09:06 PM

I wanted something with an Ayu in the mirror..

evolusean 18th March 2008 09:07 PM

Sitting on a chair in lingerie for no real reason in the middle of a beautifully decorated room reminds me of Victoria Beckham in the Spice Girls' "Headlines" video. It just feels awkward for Ayu, though--she rarely does "sexy", let alone "sexual", and suddenly we have a hand-bra single cover and this video.

I don't hate the video, but it just feels awkward... bold and safe at the same time. Hmmm... Need to watch it a bunch more times.

Edit: Okay, I've changed my mind. I hate the video. It's stupid, bland, and it even fails at being eye candy. Jewel had no content what-so-ever either, but it was visually stunning, cohesive, and interesting. In Mirrorcle World, Ayu is just wearing pretty clothes that we've seen before, and making exaggerated poses against a backdrop of Paris.

The story, too, was incredibly weak. If you're going to bother with a plot, you need to commit to it; you can't half-ass it. The phone booth scene and the story with the spies in general should have been more fully explored. It had potential to be something like a chic version of ourselves, but it just didn't make it even half way.

I will say that it looks nicer (i.e. more expensive and polished) than (don't) Leave Me Alone did, but it's still a bomb as a whole video. Such a shame, because the song is pretty cool.

Not~Yet 18th March 2008 09:07 PM

I didn't really like it =( Maybe I was expecting too much, a great storyline and awesome scenes.. But they wouldn't even have to go to Paris to shoot that O____o I dunno if it was purposely done so but for some reason I find the video kinda funny. Especially the phone box scene. Her facial expressions=lol. And the beginning where she walks ahead (god I dislike that outfit) her walking is really clumsy (oh come on why to wear so high heels if it's hard to walk...). The storyline was seriously bad (I bet some of you will come up with the most intelligent explanations but it could have been waaay better.). And what was with that Koda-copying? =___=

Dang I sound so cynical. I was just dissapointed. I still love the song :heart, but I think I will erase this pv from my memory. :S

So true.

ken(d)t 18th March 2008 09:16 PM

It's a really weird PV - kindda Alterna-ish... And gosh, could she do any more poses? ;P

But it looks like she had tons of fun, and when you're a star like ayu, I guess that's all that matters (:

I liked it - something fresh ... Though I would have liked it to actually have a story :)

ayuholic 18th March 2008 09:20 PM

The promotional video kinda reminds me of Gwen Stefani's "Early Winter" video. Especially the part when Ayu is in the red dress. I don't get this--it's called "Mirrorcle World" and not ONE mirror was in the video. I expected something entirely different. It was kinda a disappointment.

My favorite part was when she was making fierce faces in the telephone booth.

~ayu-cake~ 18th March 2008 09:30 PM

This video was horrible.
In my opinion, it's probably one of the worst pv's she's ever done.
Even songs that I hate, have better videos than this -____-

Ayu's over acting, and scary facial expressions could make a mental institution look friendly >_<
I can't believe how disappointed I am with it tbh, I thought I was in for a really beautiful video after I heard it was set in Paris, and I just feel cheated.

If it wasn't for the first pressing items on the CD+DVD versions of this single, I would change my order right away :/

Laaame.

SunshineSlayer 18th March 2008 09:32 PM

The PV doesn't really work. I wasn't expecting much though because I just couldn't see how shooting outside in France was going to corralate well to MirrorcleWorld.

Also, Ayu's facial expressions are way over exaggerated and get annoying. Still, I love the song. But, if you are going to go through the trouble of shooting a PV in France, make sure it's a great one.

everlastingRAINBOW 18th March 2008 09:34 PM

Hmmm... It was alright!

The red dress was hot, I wanted to shout: "Watch out for the bull, Ayu!"
The dove thing looked really bad, it was done the wrong way! Overall it was an ok video, it just was lacking something, it didn't really all tie together the right way :shrug

But it did make me like the song more :yes

ladytaboo 18th March 2008 09:35 PM

It wasn't a bad PV. Kinda weird/random in some areas, but Ayu looked gorgeous and seemed to be having fun so whatever. And I like the beginning when she's marching while singing the first verse.

s1012h 18th March 2008 09:41 PM

Good to know I'm not the only one who thinks the mirror-breaking part of the song where she makes that crazy diva face is effing hilarious haha.

Lingerie part = useless
Phone booth part = leave it to Ami Suzuki's Bitter...
Red dress part = only good part of the PV... I think it's the only part that reflected the song
Dark feather part = Ningyo-hime 2.0

ayumisrael 18th March 2008 09:45 PM

lmao the dark feather part reminded me of alterna's white feather actually.

This PV is really nice! random but I like how it showed a few lifestyles in just one PV.

The red huge dress is just too funny XD.

Couldn't agree any further.
I think the PV was embarrassing a bit.

Sasha 18th March 2008 09:50 PM

i really like how Ayu looks in the PV)

leo_nardez 18th March 2008 09:50 PM

the song is great,, scenery, outfit, ayu are great~
the PV was just *miehhh...* it's kind of horrible~~~

weird~ and i dunno...

the typography at the first...sucks..at least they can do it better..with some curvy font or what..

OMG...
am so dissapointed....

Ayumiko 18th March 2008 09:51 PM

I'm a bit disappointed with the pv...it has potential to be a awesome pv but it failed. This new 'director' should totally stick with photography only (atleast with ayu) and whoever put the pv together did a bad job. The walking on the bridge part took up half of the pv and all the random scenes are in the second half. The individual scenes are good but they don't go together the way it did. I love the alterna x A BEST 2 scenes and also the phone booth scene, the red dress was nice too but the running away scene was too funny (which is not suppose to be)..she looked like a snail running way in that dress...XD...the lingerie scenes were not needed and the trench coat scenes were a bit boring.

A pv like this should be directed by Wataru Takeishi not some newbie director wannabe photographer...he is just as bad as Luis Hernandez and Takahide Ishii. :eviltongu...oh well atleast I still love the song and I'm still keeping all my pre-orders.

I agree with you about everything except about it being one of her worst PVs. I seriously think it is her absolute worst PV EVER. >>

She just stands and sings, walks and sings, does something and sing. She looks awkward and it's cut so randomly. There's not even any interesting shots. It's just... really, really bad.

The beginning though, when she's walking and singing, reminded me of Amuro Namie's Baby Don't Cry PV meeting (d)Lma. Ayu looks stiff and frozen and weird and I don't like it. >>

She could have done something so cool with this song. :( Oh well~

ownsarai 18th March 2008 09:59 PM

I think the PV is a bit random, funny at times, especially with all the overdone facial expressions, but the outfits are gorgeous, and Ayu in the lingirie scene is hot! :yes I really don't know if there is a real storyline in this PV with all the spies or whatever they are running around, but I like it, I rate it 8/10.

I so would have loved to see her reflecting into a mirror in this PV...

ayuzlove 18th March 2008 10:00 PM

hmmm..ayu looks pretty and the scenery is really gorgeous...but there are alot of question marks above my head after watching the pv cos i dun know wats going on...lol...and i feel that when the chorus comes in and the way she move and sing dun really match well...cos i was expecting she will be singing wildly or dancing and jumping like mad at the chorus...but she is still walking ard and singing...kind of mismatch i think

perfectodub 18th March 2008 10:09 PM

I FEEL THE SAME TOO
with a better edition..this video should be better
i don't like some of the cuts in the edition
and some takes are too long and ayu looks like
strick-a-pose-strick-a-pose-strick-a-pose-strick-a-pose-strick-a-pose

and yea...in the first chorus..we need something different..ayu running or something...but not just the same walk
the introduction of the red dress was horrorific too :S
IS A GOOD BUT VERY IMPERFECT VIDEO

REALLY BAD SENSIBILITY BY THE EDITOR

KuroixShiroi_Namida 18th March 2008 10:15 PM

The worst part of the PV imo is the bridge walking part. Apart from that it was fine.

Ani_C 18th March 2008 10:16 PM

It was alright but not great. Not enough with Lingerie Ayu xD But I guess if there was anymore with that it would've tarnished Ayu's image a bit and I wouldn't like that too much. I loved the feathery black hair Ayu :yes That and the last Ayu with the white dress were the best parts for me really.

apple-pi 18th March 2008 10:17 PM

I didn't like the video so much :|
I get a feeling that it could have had a concept that was more interesting and stuff, but that's not even the biggest problem... it just feels reaaaaally weird watching it.
Like, the beggining with Ayu walking is waaay too long. She's like that for tje beggining of the song, and when the chorus starts she's STILL like that, and it feels like the music doesn't sync with the video AT ALL!
Waa. It's okay, I guess, but could have been better...

My favorite part was the HEY-HEY-HEY-HEY one. I wish the rest of the PV would be more like that (faster, I mean)

baoanhnguyen 18th March 2008 10:20 PM

its awesome because its so different then her previous PVs.completely unexpected and she wowed everyone.so Ayu

Faiza 18th March 2008 10:21 PM

Wow, so many negative views about Mirrorcle World's PV! o_o
I'm just happy that it's got ayu eye-candy, she doesn't need to be all deep and thoughtful all the time and at the end of the day eye-candy + sex factor sells and the PV definately has that

YuriChan 18th March 2008 10:32 PM

It's random.. Beautiful! But random.. *rant start* Geez, I hate the harsh criticizing that the PV's getting! D: It's the director's first video.. at least give him a break!! DX *end of rant*

DestinyWishes 18th March 2008 10:35 PM

I was disappointed, it seemed kind of cheap and rushed imo. It was alright though, the telpehone scene was good and I make a set from the Ayu in lingerie moment, she looked so cool!

Mario 18th March 2008 10:35 PM

Well, I liked the PV overall, But I think that the director should have taken advantage more of the city, apart from these random scenes in the beginning.

IMO they have wasted time and money in a useless travel to Paris.

zoomzoom 18th March 2008 10:43 PM

I really liked the whole thing, I was only bothered by the overacting she brought from the dont leave me alone pv. I know the song is dramatic, so it kinda calls for dramatic moves, but she could just cut back on it a liiittle bit. And what was up with the "ayumi hamasaki - Mirrorcle World" part?? That looked soo bad.

I think she looked stunning in all of the different scenes though, it's definately not boring. The phonebooth part was cool and the whole visual side was great. Better than most of the GUILTY pvs imo.

lilchan 18th March 2008 10:45 PM

I was dissapointed..and scared
the phone booth thing..was scary...>.<
but I liked the close up shoots..and the bit fluffy red dress

ayu_fan929 18th March 2008 10:45 PM

Kind of random...I personally don't see a reason why it had to be shot in Paris for a PV like this....

GRACE 18th March 2008 10:47 PM

It wasn't her best, which makes me glad that I only have money for the CD version ^^;;. It was eye candy, and eye candy doesn't do it for me(well, except the guy dancers in my name's WOMEN, but shhh don't tell XD).

I wish there was an actual mirror breaking when the mirror shattering part of the song came on...

Also, did anyone notice, the vocal problems in the chorus weren't altered too much, and the music is still overpowering.

AyUta 18th March 2008 10:48 PM

Eh, nothing was special except ow beautiful Ayu looked. The scenery was nice and all too but it was kind of boring to watch. I don't like Ayu in sexy lingerie =/ I think she's trying too hard. IMO! Don't bash me lol But anyways...boring. And the PV reminded me a LOT of Koda :laugh Not a good thing >.>;
The way she moved and all of that reminded me of the (d)lma PV as well. Too dramatic xD

EYE CANDY! xDDDD

HanabiChick 18th March 2008 10:49 PM

It's okay, bit too random, both the song and PV. It doesn't work for me.

the angel song 18th March 2008 10:50 PM

I think it was put together all wrong. Everything else could've been saved, even her overacting lol. The imagery wasn't horrible, the costumes were lovely, and there was enough going on I just think...

someone should use another video of her's and mesh it with this one to create a seamless edited Mirrorcle World pv that works lol. That's all I got to say.

LEOyumi 18th March 2008 10:56 PM

I loved this video! When I started watching, I was excpecting a plot and all, but after some moments I understood it's nothing about a plot.. It's just visual. Well, if the director wanted to show a little story or sth, he failed.

Anyway, the red dress is gorgeous <3 the phonebooth scene is great as well!

Not her best, but far from bring her worst.

I thought there was gonna be a plot because of these "agents" running around with walkie talkies. The plot is kinda that ayu is chased by them (?) That's all I got.

Melrose 18th March 2008 11:03 PM

^

I think the theme was having "different faces". Thus mirror-ish.

IMO, it would have been -AWESOME- if the telephonebooth scene was BEFORE the bridge, and the mirror smashing part was her breaking through the telephonebooth.

Isthan 18th March 2008 11:04 PM

So many negative comments...

Well, I liked it. I don't mind if it was random, it was fun! And visually it was stunning. The only thing I'm really missing is that she would've actually broke something in the mirror breaking part.

sugarbasil 18th March 2008 11:07 PM

I seriously think the feather part was directly stolen from Kuu. Seriously, the black feathers for her hair, the dark make-up...100% copied. :/

I dunno...the PV overall was pretty bad, mostly due to choppiness. I don't know why all of a sudden she feels the need to be so sexy and show so much skin when she didn't in the past. She seems to do something like this every time her career goes down a bit. Remember when STEP you/is this LOVE came out? I don't remember distinctly what it was (I THINK it was Kuu's popularity stepping up and Ayu's going down), but we were all pretty shocked to see those covers. It's almost like she's trying to compensate or get more hits. Though then again, she could just be exploring a bit and trying something out that she always wanted to. Maybe she just really wanted to be sexy. :)

And I think I'm the only one here who really didn't like her red dress. :/ Her hair was too big and it just didn't make a whole lot of sense to me. :/ What can I say?

It would have been really cool to see her walk by a mirror shop or something and punch a mirror when the mirror-smash part came. :P

Woah, woah, I like the PV a lot more than I'm making it sound. XD

Tasked 18th March 2008 11:08 PM

There's more to this PV that it looks at first sight. Yes, there isn't much happening; but there actually is.. There's some weird, almost creepy/poetic relation between the exact words Ayu sings and the way she looks at you through the screen. The music, arrangement-wise has a lot of chaotic, un-ordinairy elements, and these are made stronger with certain small details of the video.

I dunno how to explain it.. There is just something about this video; something that shows a whole new side of Ayu.

I see it more like what she did in alterna...

darc_aqua 18th March 2008 11:10 PM

I think she's just trying something new and wild with this PV.

DA1SUK1DAY01691 18th March 2008 11:14 PM

Watch, we'll all appreciate it later when some out of the blue idea comes out that makes sense. Ahahaha.

I think once that comes out, I'll appreciate it more. I think Ayu has never acted like this in a PV before, so it's something different for all of us.

I'm curious to see who the director is, now.

~ayu-cake~ 18th March 2008 11:16 PM

Y'know the only thing that made this video worth while was how damn hot she looked in the lingerie, oosh!

You could be also be right. I can see that. Maybe it's both. Maybe it's neither. Maybe it doesn't matter cuz it's a really awesome part (IMO). XD I'm gonna have to go back and watch Alterna now. :luv2

Beauty4123 18th March 2008 11:23 PM

the PV was pretty nice, but kinda on the boring side, a little bit, lol. i liked ayumi's oufits, though. :P the PV isn't horrible or anything, i just think it could have been a bit better.

lfe. 18th March 2008 11:23 PM

the part where shes sitting in her red dress and jus moving it around was a pretty big waste of 20 seconds or so but i really liked the PV. its her best PV out of all her recent ones. i think there could have been more action involved insteading of just using the paris scenery for her poses but i didnt really know what to expect for this PV and this certainly surprised me in a good way. she looks damn sexy too

ayuayu798 18th March 2008 11:40 PM

I LOVE IT!!!

MemorialAddress 18th March 2008 11:45 PM

It was her best PV in a while.
But.
She waited a bit too long to decide to be sexy.
I mean, come on. Be sexy at age 23 or whatever. Not 30.
I'm not buying the whole SEXY! image at all, since the Ayu I love is just. . . Ayu.

And AYU is not some sexy J-pop singer, she's just her own person :)

bondingo 18th March 2008 11:45 PM

I thought it was very different, but absolutely amazing. I was very impressed with it overall. The lingerie scenes were gorgeous and she looked stunningly beautiful throughout the entire video. I especially loved the part in the phone booth.

Calico 18th March 2008 11:51 PM

I was a bit underwhelmed, I admit. Usually I don't care if I get a visually-centered PV from Ayu, but from this single I was really hoping for something grand. By the end of the first verse I realized that I had spent the whole time watching her walk across a bridge and didn't feel so entertained.

I kept waiting for something to happen involving the men in suits. But beyond the booth scene, nothing much. Oh well. Still pleasing to watch.

:shughug

I so agree with you Bondy. :yes I just finished watching the PV and I. LUVED. IT. Ayumi should off a great sense of style (I LOVED THE BOOTS! THE BOOTS OWNED THE PV). OMG, I so luved the red dress (Holy tree! She must have spent thousands dollars on that dress! :luv2) ANd OMG, Woot! Go, Sexy Ayumi! Show Koda Kumi that you can look sexy without looking whory in a lingerie (Koda had a red piece fugly lingerie....and yea, she looked whory! Sorry my fellow kuu fans. :cry)! I wasn't too fond of the scene where she was in black. I was cute but it sort made ayu look old. :( My fave scene though, is when she was trapped in the glass box. Woooo, Ayu looked so fierce and sexy. :yes I have more faith in the single selling well now. :D

@Meighy: I don't think she was try to look like "super-sexy" or anything. I don't think she's old either. 30 does not mean your old. :grumpy

ayu_ready? 19th March 2008 12:03 AM

everybody's making some fuss again? =/

mmm...

I say I LOVE it and I'm not gonna hear other statements

what I love is that finally Hamasaki is trying to be wild & sexy - of course maybe overacted a bit...

now a small dispute:

when I started watching the PV the parts with agents and lingerie bits in the beggining so much fit the musical acoustic beggining, for the atmosphere...
then drums - and Ayu's on bridge, spies and such...her heels on the bridge, her gait fits the drums very well I think...
when I watched this piece I thought - what a cool PV, there's a plot in it, yay! Ayu is watched by spies, she's agent 007, maybe she'll watch smbd too or will fight with the spies on the Effel Tower?

hell no...after the bridge part the PV turned into a mess...I mean, they put more images of hers...from all of them I like the white dress in da booth...I hate the red dress! =/ so they put them, the lingerie Ayu is nyaaaaaa! sexiiiiiiii, awww, loveeee :luv2...so they put them all so unwisely...I mean, there werent a single connection between the images except the spies...but if they put more thought into it I thin the PV would be better...

I waited for some noir battle action scenes XDDDD

I found this dark feathers part very useless....it doesn't resmble Kuu for me though...I dislike it how ppl start already here: "OMG, she's coping Kuu!" bla-bla-bla...hate that

but wtf? I LOVE THE PV! :D

I know....I should have been it's director - believe me, I know howto use Paris, spies and lingerie! :P

PS it's very different and I love it...I'm tired of Marionette, 1LOVE 'usual Ayu PV style' :yes

cloud♥honey 19th March 2008 12:04 AM

The worst and the best PV ever. Seriously, I pretty hate and love it. The same time it is pretty it is scary. Well, I really know I'll love the PV to death in this and in the other weeks and that's why I am posting this weird comment here.

AYU, DON'T ACT LIKE A DIVA SINGING HER HIT!
- i'm walkin', posin' & singin' my own song!

AYU, DON'T ACT LIKE A PROSTITUTE WHO YOU AREN'T
- i'm so sexy!

AYU, DON'T PUT WEIRD MAKE-UPS IN YOUR SWEETY FACE!
- i'm so scary!

That's why I'll always love Ayu. She do things for her, not for people around. She's stylish, she's the best. Oh no, I'm acting like a non-life fan, let me leave this topic now.

If the lingerie scene and alterna scene was taken out, I probably would have liked this pv. Those 2 scene makes it random to me.

futureLOVE 19th March 2008 12:17 AM

i definitely think it's a biiig step up from the GUILTY PVs...by a long shot.

i do think that there could have been a different direction taken, but i think it seems to be the best thought out PV she's turned out since i guess 1 LOVE.

DestinyWishes 19th March 2008 12:17 AM

I don't get the where the "30 is too old" comments are coming from, yeah if she was like 60 or something and did the lingerie scene, I'd be very scared, but 30 is not old!

freedreamer 19th March 2008 12:20 AM

hmmm not sure what most people were expecting from a ROCK song + Paris...coz i couldnt see a single link at all
and when i knew 5 styles were showing up, it was definitely a "STYLES" MV...(which i totally loveee...i like to see different looks of artistes)
and when Ayu was told to be in a gown, i knew..something seemed pretty weird already...rock song in gown??

so here..here's my take...
actually i wished it was longer!!!! I mean, Yes, they are trying to catch her i suppose...BUT WHY? and yea, some facial expressions are really funny...lOl...especially the first half on the bridge...being like random hand movements...

and that big red dress...she look so...burdened by it i feel BUT SHE WAS PRETTY...it was just that when she was on the floor, the camera also stood still and with such a HIGHLY 'moving' song, the camera should have move in directions so bring out more dramatism... the dove thing...I tot it was very Paris..as in, fits the mood HAHA

I tot the feathers wan was quite...sudden and good. haha. it's like a sideline ayu..ayu behind kinda thing. and yea, quite 'alterna'

i dunno why Lingerie AYu was there LOL...but i was glad she sang some Woahs and Yeahs...

the phone booth wan..Yes, her expressions were funny ahhaha...but she called for help didnt she? to be taken away...

on the whole, i think there is some very subtle plot...(catching here..) but mainly eye-candy..and i adore that...
those who say it can be better...yea i can be, if they showed more of wad happened before or soemthing...

But i do LOVE IT! its different .. and she looks great...and Paris!

I don't why people think Koda started the "whole sexy" thing in Japan and why she's the only one who can do it.

I thought they were random too. The alterna-ish scene was alright but they didn't have to go and make Ayu wear sexy clothing. I like my Ayu to stay AYU, and I just hope she doesn't start going towards the 'sex sells' thing. It would really kill it.

Probably because Japan is more focused on being cutesy. There's few artist that do the sexy thing. Off the top of of my head, the only other person besides Koda that does it is Maki Goto.

it was.. really.. really... Random.. maybe too much Random.. but if Ayu enjoyed it, good :D

@Luv_Venus: :laugh
EDIT: oh and also, no one ever said Kuu is the only one who can do sexy. . . .
. . . .she's just best at it :D

I just think that sexy isn't what I see as being Ayu.
All these years, we've loved her for her uniqueness and originality, and now she is blending in with all the other J-Pop bunnies and being sexy.
Oh well, I'm still going to go see CDL :heart

Faiza 19th March 2008 12:57 AM

I find it cool that in the beret costume and the dress in the phonebox costume, Ayu signed her fans CD's and photobooks xD

~Amy~ 19th March 2008 01:00 AM

Well I liked the PV but there are two things I think would have made the Pv better...

First of all there should have some glass breakin' not ayu pulling down her collar, I mean wtf?

Second of all at the beginning of the PV when she was walkin all fast and fierce, all the buildings on the sides should have blown up as she was walking now that would have made that chorus even more powerful. Well that's my opinion...

austin. ♥ 19th March 2008 01:16 AM

It's crap. And the song had so much going for it.

The sound quality still hasn't gone up - the chorus sounds... weird.

xCHELLy 19th March 2008 01:19 AM

It was an alright PV. I didn't expect much, so I guess that's why I thought it was ok. I really really hate the freakin' random red dress scenes. I mean wow, I thought everything about the PV was random but man the dress scene does it. The beginning, definitely better if it was shot at night. Tone down her crazy expressions I would have liked it more.
