[NEWS] Ayumi in concert (her ear did NOT recover)

「Who…」

-pop diva Hamasaki Ayumi (29) may have lost the hearing in her left ear but she can still put on a big show. Marking her 10th anniversary in showbiz, she held the Tokyo leg of her Asian tour at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium yesterday. She went through 21 songs and nine costume changes during the show. During the encore the 12,000 fans surprised her with a version of the song "Who..." and a tearful Ayu was presented a huge 50kg cake. She will play 27 shows in ten cities across Japan before heading overseas. Details for the Asian shows have yet to be announced. Since her April 8, 1998 debut single "Poker Face", Ayu has amassed sales estimated at ¥200 billion (approx. $2 billion). Her memorial single "Mirrorcle World" was released yesterday and is sure to become her 30th No.1. A Sports Nippon article said that she had "miraculously" recovered some of the hearing in her left ear, but it wasn't mentioned elsewhere and so can't be confirmed. She was seen removing the ear monitor during the show.

Yeah... it's exagerated. She hasn't "recovered." Remember when she told us about her hearing loss how we'll all have to scream louder for her now so she can hear our support? That's all she was doing. She was "using" her left ear (cupping her hand around it) so she could hear the audience's louder screams in support of her. She can probably still hear faint sounds and if the screaming is loud enough, I'm sure she could somewhat hear it. That's what happened. :yes

I really thought a miracle has happened =/

Oh well, i do hope ayu's right ear will recover somehow..

apple-pi 9th April 2008 06:16 PM

Well, it's not a miracle, but at least I know now that she didn't COMPLETELY lose her left ear... I thought it didn't work at all~

Rebirthia 9th April 2008 06:34 PM

please, edit the thread title, for sanity's sake!!!

now i just can think about Bombs up in my face, by Darren Hayes.... :/

This translation took a lot longer than I thought it would...
--------------------
On the 8th, Ayumi Hamasaki (29) held her 10th anniversary concert celebrating 10 years since the day her first CD debuted. During the encore, the audience of 12000 people sang the song "Who..." as a surprise to Hamasaki, moving her to tears. Figure skate Mao Asada (17) was also in attendance of the celebration. *Even her left ear, thought to have lost its hearing, faced the anniversary. It was understood that she was recovering.* [I think they mean recovering from what happened, not the ear recovering.]

*Not completely clear on the grammar here

Surprised at the presents from her fans, she put her left hand to her mouth, and before long, she was wiping her eyes brimming with tears over and over. So many tears fell that her staff had to hand her a large towel.

A chorus of 12000 people. "Who..." is a song from the album "LOVEppears" (Nov '99) which continued to confirm her as the leader of high school girls. "From now on, that this singing voice may always reach you..." [lyrics of Who] Hamasaki, who wrote these lyrics, has put all of her feelings toward her fans in song and sang them many times. It was the reverse on this day as her fans offered the words "That we may reach Ayu."

Ayumi Hamasaki debuted with the single "Poker Face" on 98-4-8. Since then, she has earned over 200 billion yen over ten years. Her fatigue in mind and body of running to the top is unmeasurable. At the end of lastyear, her physical health was considerably in decline, and there were even doubts about her annual new years live concert.

The loss of hearing in her left ear is not unrelated to ten years of stress. According to a specialist, "Even now her health is not perfect." But, she faced the stage thinking, "I want to use my voice to reach out with all my might."

At lives, she uses inner ear monitors countless times, and the specialist says "I don't know the extent of the hearing loss, but I hear that she can hear as of now." [I think the guy is saying she can still hear ok even with just the right ear.]

At the concert, there were unique scenes such as when Hamasaki appeared in an ornate jeweled dress as well as a pink miniskirt in the "cute girl" style of Seiko Matsuda. During the encore, an enormous 50kg cake was brought on stage. "I'm really happy to have a celebration like this." At the very end, she placed the microphone down and shouted "Thank you!" to the audience with her own voice.

Her anniversary single "Mirrorcle World" debuted on the Oricon daily chart at first place. Already having achieved a record of 30 #1's, it seems to add a decoration of flowers to her anniversary year. [Probably a Japanese expression.]

ExodusUK 9th April 2008 06:37 PM

Ayu should do another Team Ayu message. I'm actually surprised she didn't do one yesterday...

Anna Willow 9th April 2008 06:40 PM

50kg, huh? *looks it up* Holy bageezus! That's 110 pounds?! Dang!

Well, to be honest, I don't see how her ear would miracuously recover after all that's happened, so I'm not surprised.

Interesting to read, though. Thanks.

it does, and it has been making it difficult for her to sing live these days. you use both your ears to be able to hear others, and when you are a singer you use them to be able to hear yourself. since she lost hearing in the leaf ear, she can only hear herself through one ear and it can cause unstable pitch in her singing. We have seen it in CDL 07-08 and other live performances so far, but I admire her resilience to keep trying. The only way she gets better is if she keeps practicing

ayu_fantasy 19th April 2008 03:47 PM

lols i remember reading it somewhere a while ago, but neways look at beethoven!!!
he was deaf, yet he was still making music that was like....=\
impossible to the deafs
lols

Well, Beethoven didn't sing, he composed. I hope she's able to adjust to her ear condition, considering the concert reports, I don't think we have to worry about her singing voice.

che0173 19th April 2008 11:38 PM

yeaaa he didn't sing
but still, she composes music doesn't she?
and if she was to compose then attempt to sing it whilst at home or something
then she'd be like no it doesn't sound right etc

Hmm....Misleading...

Thats said based on your ignorance. An ear isnt enough especially during a live where Ayu can hear instructions given by the background crew at times until the concert is seen to be settling smoothly. Furthermore Ayu is now left with just an ear to hear herself over the loud, blaring music.
Any singers will tell you that they do not want to lose their hearing, not even the slightest.
