Wow. That was a quick LITTLE #1 Run for Ayumi. Hehehe.
Also I had to do a doubletake to realize that that was Utada at the #5 Spot b/c I was thinking to myself, shouldn't "Prisoner of Love" be on this list, I was sure it was up in the spots. So I was disappointed. Then I saw it of course. That Single cover just doesn't jump out at me. |

I hope Ayumi's #1 weekly streak isn't broken by a boyband. Also, while YUI's album will probably sell between 300K and 400K overall, I'm surprised it dropped so fast (she's suppose to be very popular at the moment, right?). Maybe it'll pick up later on.

Yes, I know. But it's supposed to give a vague idea of what people are interested in that week, and well if they're are interested in it they're obviously going to buy unless they're poor. And I'm sorry, but #3 to #24, how stupid. Maybe people were lying to try and look cool? :cool

^You can't forget about releases the week before. Ninki is basically about people's interest of releases that initial week. Just because people have a certain interest in that week doesn't mean that aren't interested in the previous week(s). I bet if Oricon was to ask the same question last week with this week, people would've still been interest in the previous week while the new releases would've been high in the top or lower bottom. I would've loved for Sowelu and melody to debut in the top ten but there are and were too many interesting releases before their albums for people to forget about.

Shuchishin will have to sell close to 20K to surpass Ayumi's last day of the week sales, which I don't find likely. Their sales may have gone up today, but it's unlikely to keep shooting up. Still, the race is too close to comfort - I don't even want to think about them having the bragging rights of "ending Ayumi's #1 weekly streak." That honor should be given to someone like Utada or some other very established and popular artist. Not a boyband.

At first I was rooting for Shuchishin, but recently I've really started to like "Mirrorcle World." Such an awesome song, so GO AYU!!! This is probably my favorite single of hers since "BLUE BIRD."

^Yea....she only needs to sell 282K at this point. Hopefully HS will still be charting at the end of this year. If it does then it will definitely achieve a million. It's already at 700k and its only 4 or 5 weeks. That's pretty quick for a female solo artists album. It won't take long for HS to achieve 850k. :yes

Although I didn't really like ULTRA BLUE, I was a little disappointed it didn't sell over a million copies (even if it was close). If HEART STATION manages what ULTRA BLUE failed to do, then it'll somewhat reaffirm Utada's status as a million-copies-per-album artist. I know it's not a big deal, but the Utada fan in me is crossing her fingers. Ayumi probably won't make another million-sales studio album, but Utada's still got a chance.
At any rate, I don't want my favorite artists to lose to EXILE in terms of sales. Even if it's inevitable, which I'm going to insist it's not. :) |

First Love like crazy and it just makes me think, "What happened to 7+ million fans?" I mean, she lost 2.5 million of them when she released Distance then she lost like 800K with the release of Deep River and then she lost like 2.6 million of her fans with Ultra Blue. I makes me sad to think that with her 1st 3 albums, she didn't have big tie-ins but now she practically has to have a decent tie-in to sale. :weep What happened to the Utapower? :cry

I wouldn't say Utada "relies on casual" fans. And if I did think that way, her recent sale numbers would have completely wiped that notion from my mind.

Most artists sales are based on casual listeners and not on your hardcore base though, at least that's what I think. Maybe people have moved on to something new or just got bored/tired of Hikki.

I think it's very obvious why Hikki lost her fans : with each album she is just shifting further away from the accessable pop/RnB sound of her first albums, and her new sound is just appealing to less people.
First Love & Distance had catchy & very mainstream-appealing songs like Wait & See , Automatic, Addicted to You, Can You Keep a Secret? which are just a lot better than anything off Ultra Blue or HEART STATION. I like pretty much all songs off First Love & Distance and much of Deep River, but only COLORS off Ultra Blue & Stay Gold off HEART STATION. |
