J-POP vs. K-POP
which do you listen to more?
I picked k-pop. I listen to it way more probably because I understand the language better |
J-POP. I only like BoA's korean songs (some of them) and it ends in that.
more Jpop for me, but i listen to more Cpop also, not a lot of Kpop, but since knowing epik high-one and a friend who is Kpop-crazy right now and having comcast with M Countdown, i'll probably steer toward Kpop
Mm, J-Pop... I don't listen to K-Pop too much...
My K-Pop listening is basically BoA's korean songs, but even then it's rare and I can hardly tell them apart (except for the really beautiful ones like We and Good-bye XD)~~ I think it's because I understand a little of japanese, and NO korean whatsoever XD it's easier to recognize songs. PLUS since I already listen to J-pop, I already know the artists that I like and need to look out for... I dunno much about the korean music industry haha XD and I'm too lazy to research about it :P I know, I know... I'm lame... |
I'm a fan of both. It's hard to pick a favorite genre.
Right now, I'm loving K-Pop more because it's so fresh and fun. :heart Korean songs are so much more catchy. :P You don't get anything super catchy like this in Japan: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4a...babo-liv_music Also, Koreans usually has better vocals too. They are certainly less nasally. |
I used to be a J-Pop only girl, but now thanks to SE7EN and Rain I've fallen into K-Pop. I don't listen to much, but I love it.
I like J-Pop infinitely more than K-Pop. K-"Pop" is usually just bland R&B that just does not appeal to me. When there are great artists like Lee Jung Hyun and Younha I love K-Pop, but there don't seem to be many of them.
I love both equally. I find that J-Pop tends to have better female artists, whereas K-Pop tends to have better male artists (vocal-wise). This doesn't apply to all artists, but is just a trend I've noticed.
I listen to both. I buy a lot of J-pop and own a lot of CDs and DVDs.
I listen to a lot of K-pop on internet radio and there are a few good K-pop shows on TV. The Japanese internet radio stations are mostly anime music, which I don't care too much for. |
The only K-"pop" I really listen is Lee Jung Hyun, so clearly I chose J-Pop :P
I prefer J-pop.
j pop ~_~
JPOP FTW!!
Tho i shouldn't be voting here, since i don't have any k-pop songs @______@ |

I have to agree with Song. It's too hard to choose. Koreans do have better vocals than Japanese as well as when it comes to english. I just hate that K-music/artist (expect BoA and Tohoshinki) aren't popular on here. I know most of you have mainly grown up on J-pop but I think most of you should try out K-pop. Their music isn't disappointing at all. Pssst, don't listen to Bondy.....he's just not a Rain fan so that's why he's downing K-music. :sdevil |
JPOP :D
j-pop ^^
J-Pop for me
J-POP

Despite that I listen more to J-Pop. I had a little collection of Korean, Chinese and some other Asian songs, but then my computer broke... ;_; I'm just more familiar with Japanese artists. |
J-POP. :yes
I mainly listen to J-pop but I'm no stranger to K-pop as well :D I like both^^
J-Pop.

I love both, but I understand Jpop a lot better than Kpop
I listen to way more J-pop than I do K-pop... because I first got exposed to Japanese as my first asian language. A lot of Korean singers are beautiful and sing really well, but iunno, I may just be being a haya but I just like the Japanese artists bettah. ^_^
J-pop.
J-pop
Jpop, although KOrean music has some pretty hot urban clubbing music. It's a shame I dont know any good KOrean music forums/ with like a good download section :P. Thats probably why i prefer Jpop over kpop.
hints anyone? :P |
I do love J-pop, but I am listening to some more Korean lately. I'm really picky about Korean artists though. They have to leave a big impact on me for me to pay attention to them. So far only a couple have, but I love em.
I listen to both but mainly J-pop because i just like it better. Plus all my favourite singers are j-pop so...:mini
J-POP :heart
Jpop better..
it's Jpop for me because I started to listen to it before K-pop!
J-POP...dun really listen to K-POP :P
Kpop > Jpop.
Most Japanese pop artists have annoying, nasally voices. |
I like Jpop better, because a lot of Kpop artists I have listened to either produce RnB music with that kinda clapping rhythm or really slow ballads. I mean, I really like that clubbing RnB feel to the songs sometimes, but there's a limit to how much of that I can listen to. XD I like Se7en... lol.
2 best languages in the world. I listen to more J-pop
I listen to Jpop more than Kpop...
J-pop. I haven't heard a song of K-pop, and I'm not actually even interested in Korean pop music. Sorry. :/
J-Pop :D
even if I discovered Wonder Girls (K-Pop) and that I love that group J-Pop is #1 for me :D <3333 |
J-Pop ftw.
I listen to both J-pop and K-pop, but I guess I prefer J-pop more; just out of habit I guess.
Depends. If you want good old pop Japan is the way to go. However if you want hip hop/R&B Korea definitely owns it! So therefore I pick both. I am listening to a lot more Korean music lately though thanks to a certain someone and their certain thread! ;)
Lol, seeing as how this is predominately a Japanese pop forum, the results make sense.
Can't really say that one is better than the other. Each genre has its strengths and weaknesses. :yes But I tend to listen to J-pop more than K-pop nowadays, because it's easier to get a hold of. |
both ^^
j-pop (:
I listen to Jpop more. I can't seem to find much Kpop I like :/
I love them both equally <3 I used to be strictly j-pop only, but then I got introduced to the marvelous man known as SE7EN, and I fell for k-pop =D
Also: Dong Bang Shin Ki>Tohoshinki |
I listen to Jpop more ^^
J-pop!
J-POP
I dislike most k-pop bands/singers |
J-POP.
There's just more releases, and there's more artists too! ^^ |
K-Pop. The artists are almost always better singers, better dancers, kewter, have catchier songs, and are fresher and newer. Honestly, J-Pop feels so stale lately. K-Pop pretty much stole me away from Japanese music. The only things I like in J-Pop still are Utada, Kuu, Ami, some Ayumi and some Namie. The rest is just boooring.
Hey everyone here is a list of cool k-pop acts to listen to if you are unsure about Korea's music: -U-KISS -SHINee -Wonder Girls -Big Bang -SS501 -DBSK -SNSD -Super Junior -After School -Tae Goon -Se7en -Bi (Rain) -Brown Eyed Girls -KARA -2PM -2AM -Maydoni - etc |
it was a korean group that got me into asian pop, so i think i'll always prefer it for that reason alone tbh. k-pop stars are much more fun imo, and most of my favorite groups and singers are korean so.. i have to be one of the 6 people who thinks kpop > jpop.
J-POP.
Definitely J-Pop!
Jpop
i was never interested in Kpop... |
J-pop definitely. For korean songs, I usually love the songs from their ost, not much of k-pop.
J-pop.
Jpop more then Kpop.
But i've recently got hooked onto Kpop! |
I hate K-pop .
I don't like to generalize, and say I like a lot of both. I do agree that DBSK'S Korean image is better, as is BoA's, because Japan perpetrates a more "pure" image idk. However, what bugs me about most k-pop that I have listened to is that it's pretty big on copying Western pop; the biggest I've seen out of J-pop, K-pop, and C-pop, so originality-wise I'm going to give my hats off to j-pop. There's just so much more. Plus, more of my favorite artists are Japanese (except for DBSK) and at least they can sing. Most of the "it" k-pop acts can't. (Wow, I generalized!) Haha. Boyband-wise I find Korea more appealing.
And also Female Japanese artists >>>> Female Korean artists Male Korean artists >>>> Male Japanese artists for me. But then again, I guess I shouldn't generalize, since I haven't heard the best that Korean music has to offer (or are we JUST talking about popular culture? 'cuz if so, it's nothing that special). I mean Korean music, since it focuses so much on copying Western music, it looks more "fresh" to some people, but it doesn't give me a Korean feel, just that it's a copy. I guess it's the fact that the Japanese pop music industry has thrived for far longer, thus there's much more to choose from. |
both ^^
JE POPPU!
jpop cuz i understand language more, that's the main reason im not interested in korean music that much.
I'm both, but I love K-pop a little bit more than J-pop.
DBSK >>>> Johnnys Wonder Girls and Girls' Generation >>> H!P Anyday. |
one of the few that likes kpop over jpop
Both of them are awesome ^^ ~
i even hate my own country's pop (really, indonesian pop is full of copycats -_-) n always listen to J-pop, K-pop or J-rock ~ the only english artist i like for now is only Lady GaGa ~ :P |
jpop for me
I don't think I will venture to listen to kpop & it doesn't help that I can't understand Korean at all T_T at least for jpop now , I'm able to catch hold of certain words & phases in songs but not for kpop's case |
J-pop
both no lie
i know a bit korean so maybe i should have picked kpop oh well i love both |
well I like both but J-POP is better |
Both.
both for me. *-*
I like both.
Overall I listen much more to J-Pop though. |
Definitely J-Pop :D
I chose J-pop because, although K-pop is great too, I can't stand K-pop female artists :no And besides, most of my fav K-pop groups/ singers end up coming to Japan anyway, so....
Jpop, Jpop, J-Jpop
Sometimes, I'll listen to some K-POP. But J-POP always dominates in my book! :laugh
J-Pop, because I understand the language
I went with J-pop. I'm not that big fan of K-pop, eventhough some artists are pretty good. I also think Japanese is more beautiful language, eventhough I can't understand it properly. Also, all my favorite singers are Japanese. So, I chose J-pop.
i pick both
it's funny, because i have more korean artists on my itunes than japanese artists. but i love some of the japanese artists (namie amuro & mika nakashima) more than the korean artists... thus i voted both |
Jpop- I love Ayu only
Kpop-Wonder Girls, 2NE1, DBS and many more. So, for me is Kpop. |
I pick Jpop. Most of what I read is how I feel too. My first Asian song was an Ayumi song so I was introduced to Japanese music first. I only listen to certain Kpop artists.
BUT! I am open to listening to ANY Asian music whether it be J or K or C pop :D I have a Vietnamese single I haven't listened to yet lol I also love Indian music! Bollywood, oh yes! In the end though, I'd have to definitely go with Jpop because I do know more phrases and words. I'm trying to learn Japanese and have been trying for more than six years. I have felt connected with the language ever since I was in high school. And hands down, Ayumi will always be the center of my Jpop heart! :D |
Jpop for the win!
OMG IM SO ANGRYYYY i wanted to vote for kpop but i excedently voted for jpop :weep
i really think kpop is getting better and better while jpop is getting sadder and sadder XDD i still love both though, but kpop just a bit more :yes |
I'm more of a J-pop person, but I have to admit that there are a lot of catchy K-pop songs out there.
J-pop, K-pop is so generic. IMHO.
Korean music. I just favour it over Japanese music lately, almost all of my favourite songs right now are by Korean girl bands so :P
I've been listening to alot of K-Pop recently. So K-Pop. ^__^
J-pop.
i do listen to some K-pop though. |
It's Jpop for me :yes
woah, it's the Korean wave, baby! ;)
k-pop: generally, it's much better than j-pop :yes iono if im just lucky, but when i listen to random kpop songs anywhere, i seem to immediately like them ^^ j-pop: not as good in general, but wayy better artists with gooood discogs. seems more classic-capable to me~ |
I'd totally vote different on this poll now. The wave hit me! I loveee K-Pop now. The only J-Pop artists I prefer to K-Pop are Ayu and Hikki.
I pick up "both".
In the beginning i only listened to j-pop. But since a few weeks i only listen to k-pop (unless KAT-TUN XP). |
well ayu > everything else out there and she's a j-pop artist but other than that I'll go with k-pop. I'm only interested in a few J-pop artists now but am interested in tons of amazing k-pop artists.
Jpop :yes

I love both :heart
They both have good and bad sides to them, and they have totally different flavors so listening to both leaves me very satisfied as a music lover <3 |
JPop!
I'm really not interested in KPop. I listen to some songs from some artists, but I mostly don't know the name of the songs or the performers. |
