Arashi Thread 11 ~Across The Wind~

They’re not an average boy band that bops around stage and lip syncs their songs while dancing provocative dances. The Stormy Boys are known and respected for their many works outside of the music world. Because of these ventures, their popularity has risen and keeps rising as their tenth anniversary nears. What other boy band do you know that has balanced an extremely successful music career with acting careers and TV hosting careers? Not many, right? Over the course of their time in Johnny’s Jimusho, the Arashi boys have been in numerous successful dramas, hosted 11 shows (currently hosting three) and broadcast a weekly radio program. If that’s not hard work, I don’t know what is. Things for the group haven’t always been so happy. Back in 2004, Aiba suffered pnuemothorax, the collapse of one lung due to immense pressure change in the chest cavity, which set the group back. Although Aiba felt he was just bothersome to the other members while he was hospitalized, the others thought otherwise. Even though he limited their promotional activities, all they thought about was his recovery. There’s also been scandals, like the one involving Nino and Masami Nagasawa and their “dating”. The incident got so serious, that jealous fans who bought tickets to their Time concert last summer had planned to get up and leave the venue when Nino began to sing. And of course we can’t forget Aiba’s scandalous photos being leaked by his ex-girlfiend. You know, the ones with him lying shirtless in bed with her? Aiba was almost suspended from Johnny’s for incident! And the recent fracture of Sho’s thumb during a rehearsal has risen fears for his health during their ever strenuous schedule. Although Arashi has had a few setbacks, they still continue to press forward! But music is their primary focus of course, and their musical career has been nothing but an achievement. They debuted with their first single “A·RA·SHI” in November of 1999 and this single went on to become the highest first week single sales by a group. They held this award for seven years until KAT-TUN’s debut, “REAL FACE”, overtook it. Seven years is amazing, ne? And their musical success just hasn’t stopped yet, with the second highest single of last year and the current third highest selling single this year, Arashi’s music popularity is going great. Although it may seem like the boys are serious workaholics, their fans recognize them as a group full of dorks. And these dorks happen to be the best of friends and have been for over 9 years. They aren’t just actors, singers, hosts, or performers - Arashi is a simply a family. _MEMBERS Ohno Satoshi (大野智) http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/5063/ohnowz2.jpg - Oldest Arashi member - Even though he's the oldest, he's looks like one of the youngest, ne? - He was chosen to be Arashi's leader through a Rock-Paper-Scissors game, he still wishes Sho had won instead of him. - A known mama's boy, it's been said that he still allows his mother to buy clothes for him. - Also known as Riida or Captain - Has been known for his amazing artistic ability, allowing him to even tour Japan with his art exhibit, "Freestyle" which has also spawned a successful photobook. Shimura Dobutsuen to play with wild animals - He's been known for his expert English. - He's also a little ditzy, deciding to join Johnny's only with the dream of meeting his idol Miyake Ken and playing basketball with SMAP. - He's known affectionately to fans as Aibaka for his often stupid statements of the obvious and such. - He did his first solo butai last fall, which got great reviews by the critics - He has a large birthmark that covers his left should to his upper arm, he likes it, but hates it when editors airbrush it out. Sakurai Sho (櫻井翔) http://img78.imageshack.us/img78/3075/shoya6.jpg - Sho is known as Keio Boy throughout Johnny's Jimusho since he attended the prestigious college. - He set the example for many of his kouhai that it's possible to attend college and still work, now many kouhai are attending university. - Although he looks the most manly in Arashi, Sho is actually the biggest scaredy-cat. - Hosts the popular news show, News ZERO, which he'll be covering the 2008 Olympics for. - He writes all of the raps for Arashi's songs - He studied English in university, so his pronunciation is really good. He also took Chinese in Junior High. Ninomiya Kazunari (二宮和也) http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/9436/ninoto5.jpg - The prankster of Arashi - Has made his Hollywood debut in Clint Eastwood directed film, "Letters from Iwo-jima", which won him loads of praise - Has composed and written many of his solo songs. - He's a confessed game freak, he's been known to play his DS for hours. - Knows how to play both piano and guitar very well. - Is ambidextrous, but prefers to use his left hand. Lisa;; I downloaded that episode earlier and finished watching it a while ago. The whole episode is hilarious! Especially when they lose the game where they have to guess how many kilos of calories are in a food and they had to eat high calorie food! They were like crying! XDXD And we also find out that Ohno weighs 40kg! DDDD: And also Nino and Aiba with the baby was so adorable! Oh yeah, Shukudai-kun was really funny!! Poor Sho!! I just loved watching the boys crack up!! I haven't seen enough concerts (only 3) to make a judgement on their concert outfits... are they THAT bad?? Guess I'm going to have fun searching on YouTube, LOL! Oh, and today I bought "Za terebijyon" because it had Arashi on its cover (there was another tv guide with Riida & Toma on it... hard to choose! But I went for Arashi). Riida is so freakin ADORABLE at the end! i love how when Jun finds out how many calories it is, he IMMEDIATELY sets it down and steps away from it! lol he's like "itz good but HELL NO I'm not sacrificing my figure to eat it!" lol it makes me feel better knowing that Jun isn't just skinny; that he actually works for it and eats semi-healthy >.< |

& I just received my copy of ARASHI's ARASHI Around Asia + In Dome 2007 2 DVDs set from ebay & it's the 1st press limited edition which came with the 40 page booklet . I really like the packaging of the Around Asia + In Dome 2007 & the pics in the booklet's <3 If not for the screening of Batman Beyond : Return Of The Joker later on tonight , I will be watching this but there's always the weekend :cool |

This whole scandal thing is so weird....I just hope it won't destroy anything for Arashi. I don't even care if it's true or whatever but now with those pictures....Japan's weird when it comes to things like this, it REALLY destroys your career over there. I'm sad for the boys...why oh why did this happen?
Edit: I read at d-addicts that they're thinking of pulling Ohno out of Maou or stop it altogether. I hope this is just a rumour :( |

Just last summer they had that thing with Nino and Masami Nasagawa where people thought they were dating and fans were planning to walk out of the concert because of it. And because of those pics of Aiba a while ago, he was almost suspended from JE. I hope this isn't true, because it'd be terrible for Ohno. I won't believe it unless it's found true. |
I just don't understand how he could let somebody take these pictures. He must have known the consequences...It really amazes me how careless some celebs are, especially in Japan where every little thing is blown totally out of proportion. Aiba's photo scandal happened in 2003 around the same time his drama was going to air. So it could be just a malicious thing done by someone else to mess with Maou and it's already mediocre ratings. Although Aiba was nearly suspended, hopefully that won't happen to Ohno. |

I think even if it's true, nobody deserves suspending and the like. Honestly, he's 28 years old. Sure he is an idol but...well...how can I put this? I think the lives they have to live are extremely hard. I mean, I don't want to justify it if he really took or takes drugs, but...I know so many people in real life that smoke this stuff to relax. Maybe it's really cultural differences but I don't think it's such a big deal. I'm just so worried about how this is treated in Japan, they really make a fuss over the slightest thing.

also, these boys were in the spotlight starting really young so they don't know what it's like to lead a normal life. plus, i don't think they r THAT rich just by being Johnny's. I think Johnny knows how to handle his money and since the stormy boys (and all Johnny's) basically sing and dance and do little or almost nothing of the song writing, arranging, choreographing, and scheduling, they don't get paid as much as we think they do... |

ummm, Johnny's have the most stressful jobs. it's not easy being them, so i don't know why you think they get off easily. if Ohno were to get suspended, HE WILL BE. reputation is everything in Japan. if he's found guilty, Johnny's Jimusho will cut all ties with Ohno. they fired Hikaru GENJI's Akasaka Akira when he got caught doing meth and cancelled everything he was affiliated with (musicals, appearances, etc.)
Uchi Hiroki and Kusano Hironori got suspended back in 2005/2006 for underage drinking and they didn't return to their groups when JE decided to let them work again. they got demoted back to Johnny's Juniors status. they're on the same level as 8-16 year olds. so yeah, Ohno will pay the price. Japanese idols don't get elite status like the celebrities here in Hollywood or whatever. ...but first, he needs to be found guilty (there have been false information about Johnny's before). we will definitely know if he will get suspended/fired or whatever. Johnny's rumors bring in the cash to tabloids. it's like finding gold, so i'm not going to say anything further about the subject until there is other news stories from Yahoo!JP, Sponichi, and other news-worthy sites or news clips. |

Irene never said that their jobs are more stressful than a doctor's or soldiers. I'm sure she meant most stressful in the entertainment industry. But seriously, it's true. Johnny's are always busy plus Arashi's schedule for these next few months is ridiculous, their job definitely is stressful.
If Ohno wants to get drunk, let him. But I really doubt he's used drugs, this "story" leaking is just way to coincidental. Maou just started airing a while ago, Arashi is releasing a new single in a few weeks, they'll be hosting a HUGE charity program and then embarking on an Asia Tour right after. It seriously don't believe this. Not unless I get REAL proof. Remember that Sho's "sex friend" scandal also leaked when D"A"l was going to be released. And Nino's relationship with Masami Nagasawa was also reported during their concert tour. |

Hmm... I've read about the scandal, but I hadn't seen the pictures until I came on this thread.
Okay... apparently those pictures were taken back in 2005. So it's tabloids looking to dirty the image of popular singers/actors, etc... 'cause that's their job. There's no proof that Ohno was under the influence of drugs, only those girls' account. BUT those pictures sure will cast a huge shadow over Leader's image. Just when he got his first drama role! Just when Arashi's on top!! (but that was calculated by the tabloids, right?). It was terribly irresponsible of him, I believe, since he's such a high-profile artist. But what's done is done. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how things are handled by Ohno's superiors and how the (unforgiving Japanese) public deals with this. And let's wait for the next high-profile scandal to errupt! Haha. |

How can people call themselves Arashi Fans and then ask for Ohno to be thrown out? They've been together for nearly 10 years, they have a bond. If there is going to be a new "sexier" member or whatever it's not going to be the same. That could have been done in the early days of Arashi but not now, 10 years later. I don't think fans would accept this and the whole Arashi-feeling would be destroyed. For now I'm not going to believe it. Though I am not as naive to think these things don't happen at all. Those Johnny Boys are human and what we believe to know about them is an image created by the media. Granted I think it would be harder work to fake who you are all the time, but you never know somebodys real thoughts by watching them on TV or reading their interviews.
