Stefani Germanotta (born March, 1986), better known by her stage name Lady GaGa,
is a singer-songwriter dance-pop, electronica musician signed to Interscope Records.

On April 8, 2008, she released her first single "Just Dance".

As a child Lady GaGa attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart School.
Having learned piano by ear at the age of 4, Lady GaGa went on to write her first piano ballad at 13
and began performing at open mike nights by the age of 14.

At the age of 17 she gained early admission to the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU, where she studied music.
By age twenty she began writing songs for Interscope Records artists, such as the Pussycat Dolls,
also she recently declared that she wrote two songs for the upcoming Britney Spears album.
She performed at the Miss Universe 2008 pageant in Vietnam, singing her debut single, "Just Dance".

On July 31, 2008, she performed "Just Dance" live on the results show of Fox's So You Think You Can Dance.

In an interview with HX Magazine, she recently came out as bisexual.

Everything a new Artist has to have to stick out. :laugh

drewbilation 9th August 2008 10:13 PM

I love her. and "Just Dance" is amazing <3

Partino 9th August 2008 10:53 PM

who doesn't :D ... she's really amazing

and if's true that she's going to do two songs of britney's album ...
I'm so going to die ...

Added a preview of "Beatiful Dirty Rich"..
BDR is supposed to be her second single ... I hope they gonna release it..
that song is AWESOME!!!

bondingo 9th August 2008 11:19 PM

Lady GaGa kicks so much ass. Her music is great, and she's very original. I was reading an interview she did with some gay website and she was saying how she was very supportive of the gay community since she grew up in it and sees herself as a bisexual. I have to respect her for that :D

Partino 10th August 2008 01:49 AM

and her originality is what makes her so cool and FIERCE ...

gosh I can't wait till the album comes out

Richieooxx 10th August 2008 02:22 AM

I love Lady GaGa :)

Lee_410 10th August 2008 02:24 AM

She's so fierce!I like her!

Larisa-chan 10th August 2008 02:36 AM

I'm addicted to the song Just Dance. It's also nice that she writes both her lyrics AND music.

As for her image... haha.. it's certainly original but I'm not thrilled at the fact that she wants to present herself as someone who's trashy/filthy/sleazy, even if it is "just an image" she portrays. (I kid you not, it's true.)

stickyrice 10th August 2008 02:45 AM

Lady GaGa is so fricken amazing. My friend and I LOVE her. She has this whole funky edge to her that makes her unique.

ALPHY 10th August 2008 02:53 AM

I am SO looking forward to her debut album! <33

Partino 10th August 2008 02:55 AM

well.. It's an image she created and she feels comfortable with.

The fact that she plays the role of a "party/trashy/sleazy" girl who can drink like a sailor,
is pretty cool.

I always had a thing for those kind of women in the industry.
They are not boring, and there's some fascinaton about them.

A good friend of mine said, and a quote here
"you gays just love a woman with a drug-addiction, a diva-esque behaviour, a martini in the right hand and a ciggy in the other hand"

I can't speak for us all, but in my case she's right.

Those trainwrecks will always have a special place in my heart. :laugh

Not that she's a trainwreck but she's promoting it as an image.

Nu-NRG 12th August 2008 09:06 PM

She is amazing!!!
Ever since I saw her appearance on so you think you can dance....wow can see sing
unlike many pop stars out there these days. I'm so going to buy her debut album. :D

drewbilation 13th August 2008 08:09 PM

a sampler of album tracks has leaked to YouTube.

Vinylfantasy 13th August 2008 10:43 PM

Although her sound is nothing new, I think some of her stuff is catchy. The remixes of Just Dance were pretty nice and I liked a couple of the previews from The Fame.

Making a statement? Being original? I really don't know XD

But, I love her. I've heard a few of her tracks, and I love them.

I didn't know she was bi! Maybe she'll get her own reality show now?

Lumix 15th August 2008 11:00 AM

I love her voice and the fact that she sings live.

But she's a bit too filthy in the Just Dance music video..

Usually I like her outfits but that one was just WTF. Grace Jones is probably laughing her ass off at her right now.

Lumix 15th August 2008 03:43 PM

WTF?

Song "Love Games", lyrics: "I wanna take a ride on your disco stick".

Oh man. :thud

edit: As I am not a native English speaker, I can never be sure what she means.. but anyway, lol.

AyumiSEASONS 15th August 2008 09:35 PM

I liked it but the glasses ... they kinda killed it...

it's a provacative song so you kinda need to be provacative ...
you can't sing a song like this and wear a nuns' costume

you don't have to like it... I'm glad that we all don't have the same
opinion... there would be no reason for a forum if everybody is just "I LOVE THIS LIKE YOU LOVE IT LIKE EVERYBODY LOVES IT" bull....

criticism is what a forum is all about ...:D

PoetGirl 19th August 2008 03:35 AM

i think just dance is a boring song. and i dont like her image. she is trying to be cool? lol

jerms 19th August 2008 03:50 AM

i'm actually real excited about her release. she's fun!

Lee_410 19th August 2008 03:54 AM

OMG,a ride on your disco stick? She gained 15 points of Awesomeness!
Just to clarify,is the disco stick a word that starts with P?

Partino 19th August 2008 04:02 AM

^lol yes I do think it's meant to be the male genitals :laugh

I'm kinda sad but happy at the same time ...

the release day of the canadian release is today and it hasn't leaked yet, which means

That made me GaGa.(Got the joke?Like,GaGa,Lady GaGa,like,nevermind...)

Partino 19th August 2008 04:37 AM

seen it - read it - got it - went GAGA :laugh

srsly ... you gotta give her some credit for the name though ...

could you name at least ONE artist who whad such an incredible and
"in-your-head-burning" stage name like hers in the last couple of years?!?!?

and P!NK doesn't count, cause she's been really long in the biz now

Fitst 19th August 2008 05:10 AM

The album leaked! They posted it over at Floppop.com

Its really good <3

Lee_410 19th August 2008 05:12 AM

OMG!I'M CHECKING IT RIGHT AWAY!

..:Hot:Like:Wow:.. 19th August 2008 11:31 AM

OH! MY! GOD!

This album is amazing!! It's pure brilliance! The best album of 2008!

I thought Again Again was pretty mediocre but they rest are just as above.

Oh and Love Game is easily the best song on the album.

drewbilation 19th August 2008 04:44 PM

I think the album's pretty good, overall. parts of it remind me of Gwen Stefani, though. and I love the "bluffin' with my muffin" line in "Poker Face" lol.

Partino 19th August 2008 06:14 PM

I thought that the album is going to be uber-good, but THIS!?!?!?!

:luv2:love!!!AMAZING!!!:love:luv2

I can't wait till it comes out here in EUROPE!!!!

Akutenshi 19th August 2008 06:45 PM

Why can I not find it on floppop? I registered and everything.

Partino 19th August 2008 07:59 PM

^sent you a PM with a surprise ... :D

Halla 19th August 2008 10:07 PM

I do think her music is interesting & I'm definitely going to check out her album :yes

but as for her image & look, originality is the last thing that comes to my mind. seems like both are a mish-mash of tired hipster & scenester cliches and try-hard trends ... that's just how it seems to me at least :o

No_Doubt 19th August 2008 10:16 PM

^I'm in complete agreement with you. I think she desperately wants to look avant garde and edgy, but just ends up looking ridiculous.

Fitst 19th August 2008 11:14 PM

I think the whole over the top part of her is an act. I belive she wants to be famous and whatnot, but I think she knows how over the top she is being.

..:Hot:Like:Wow:.. 20th August 2008 01:28 AM

I never thought she was original with anything. She's just a cross between Gwen and Fergie with Ashlee and Avril imho.

None of this however alters the fact this album is amazing!

Partino 20th August 2008 01:42 AM

^not that I agree with you HOTTIE :laugh but
, and here it comes ... THAT kind of criticism should be seen more often
around this board ... :yes

----

BTT...

will this album bomb or be a major hit?!?! watcha thinking?

..:Hot:Like:Wow:.. 20th August 2008 08:07 AM

^ Good to know it's appreciated :D

I think the album will probably flop in the US in all likelihood (Sadly) but will be pretty successful in Europe, Australia and Canada.

Kobayashiwoof 20th August 2008 08:15 AM

I thought her album was kinda, boring and stuff I have heard before from other artists. I only really liked Lets Dance.

it's not immature ... it's like a criticism should be :D
-----

i think that the album would do well in the UK and Germany ...
those Countries suck up to music like this...

maybe she'll be able to make some decent no 10 hits in the US ..
but you'll never know .. look at Katy Perry

shippo 22nd August 2008 06:30 AM

Okay... This is my review about the album... :D

Finally, long awaited album from the boom and the hit girl Lady Gaga has coming to town!!
After she released "The Fame" as a short film that well-circulated in internet, the songs that appear there has make me gone insane about her!

The album starts really nicely with her hit-single that really FAME-ous after her show in Miss Universe, "Just Dance". Akon that featured there can't stop her to show her true talent. This easy-listening-hypnotic-tunes already made a good times in charts and radio play. I myself already fall in love at first hearing with this song! :D
"Love Games" and "Poker Face" are two songs that really infectious, so good, especially if you love Just Dance!

and hey, this girl can sing Happy Pop song too!! Check the cute "Eh Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)" or "Summer Boy"!!

Her strong voice is really good at powerful ballad! "Again Again" and "Brown Eyes" already become TWO of my fave tracks in this album!
The rest? Prepare for roller coaster that brought by Gaga to this album!! and hell, just enjoy and JUST DANCE!!

So pity Dirty Ice Cream, Disco Heaven, Wondercul can't go in! (i'm not really fond of rock show and shake ur kitty)

Hey... just to introduce you... I'm ivan from Indonesia :D A new but hardcore Gaga-Crazer... :p

Paparazzi is my favourite song on The Fame. <333

I was watching a interview on mtv today and apparently the album went to #1 over here(Canada). Was not expecting that, congrats to her.

Her music is great but I get the feeling that her image is too fake <_<

Please tell me what you think :)
Just Lose Your Mind And Dance (Lady Gaga feat. BoA)

Partino 7th September 2008 07:44 PM

thx for the mash-up I'll be downloading and commenting tomorrow

Re:★ 7th September 2008 07:56 PM

So yesterday in German my friend Ruthie and I were passing notes. So one of them said "Lady Gaga, anyone?" and then she goes and replies "Eh who?"!

DDD:

My jaw literally hit the floor. I said that I'd listen to that stupid Just Stand Up! (To Cancer) song if she listened to Just Dance and Beautiful Dirty Rich. Let's just say she's officially converted. :D Oh and I still don't like that horrible cancer song!

Partino 7th September 2008 10:34 PM

If your friend watched "THE DOME 47"yesterday

she might have had the chance to see our dear lady perform "JUST DANCE" with, and that
was the coolest thing ever, BRITNEY SPEARS'S "I LOVE ROCK 'N' ROLL" clips were shown ... some kind of a mash-up

if I get my hands on a video I'll upload it for you guys

thinkingoutloud89 10th September 2008 01:38 PM

ahhha I missed THE DOME
its shown again on VIVA in october or?

Northerner 10th September 2008 07:25 PM

I went looking for more of her music after falling in love with "Just Dance," and I think her album is pretty decent for the most part. Besides JD, my favorites were "Love Game" (the beat is great!), "Paparazzi," "Eh Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)," and "I Like It Rough."

Lee_410 12th September 2008 01:36 AM

I totally want her album!

an "old" interview with our LADY:

Mix one part Blondie with one part Madonna, swirl it in a bath of the Scissor Sisters and Junior Senior, throw in some glitch and sprinkle with glitter and you come close the recipe. Winter Music Conference was her launching pad and the industry took note of her. Working with Akon and Red One, the Lady Gaga has crafted a debut CD full of beats and melodies set for release later this summer. Until then, watch for her music video "Just Dance" and live performances as she tours the US.

DJ Ron Slomowicz: Listening to your music, I don't want to do a traditional Q&A interview. I'm going to say a bunch of names and you tell me what impact they've had on your life. Let's start with the Pussycat Dolls.
Lady Gaga: Well you know, I love a girl in her underwear, first of all. Secondly, I've been writing for them, so Nicole Scherzinger has been in my head for probably the past three months. There's something that's very humbling about being able to write for a powerhouse group like that. Probably the biggest influence that they've had on me is making me want to be a better writer for them.

RS: That's awesome. How about Akon?
Lady Gaga: Akon is a very talented songwriter to work with. His melodies, they're just insane. It's funny, I think about him a lot when I'm doing my melodies because he's so simple, and he's just been great. He keeps me on my feet, very grounded, but he also puts me on a silver platter, which is always very nice. So it's been an incredible influence. It's like every time you work with somebody that's better that you are, you become greater.

RS: Really cool. How about the Scissor Sisters?
Lady Gaga: Oh, I love them, I can't breathe. I remember the first time I heard them, it was on the radio, and I was like, 'who the heck is that?' They are a big influence. I love the disco, their outfits, and they really care about their performance. Conceptually I just think they're very smart in their approach. I'm also a big Elton John fan, and you can hear the influence on every record, so I love them. They were big – I really thought about them when I did "Dirty Rich."

RS: You can definitely hear that. How about Red One?
Lady Gaga: Red One is like the heart and soul of my universe. I met him and he completely, one hundred and fifty thousand percent wrapped his arms around my talent, and it was like we needed to work together. He has been a pioneer for the House of Gaga and his influence on me has been tremendous. I really couldn't have done it without him. He taught me in this own way – even though he's not a writer, he's a producer – he taught me how to be a better writer, because I started to think about melodies in a different way.

RS: So where does the name Lady Gaga come from?
Lady Gaga: Queen's song "Radio Ga-Ga."

RS: You are coining all kinds of great words. Tell us about retrosexual.
Lady Gaga: Retrosexual – I came out with that a long time ago. Me and my buddy Tom were hanging out one day in the studio and we were talking about metrosexuals, because he had bought a pair of boots and I said 'Those are very metrosexual.' And he was like 'I don't know, I think they're kind of retro.' And I said 'So you're retrosexual.' It was kind of a joke. The more I thought about it – I'm so obsessed with all things retro, the 70s and 80s. I don't know, that word just kind of flew out of my mouth one day, and it stuck with me. I often do that – if I coin terms, they'll become like the centerfold of my entire project or an entire record.

RS: Very cool. What was it like filming the video for "Just Dance?"
Lady Gaga: Oh it was so fun, it was amazing. For me it was like being on a Martin Scorsese set. I've been so low budget for so long, and to have this incredibly amazing video was really very humbling. It was really fun, but you'll see if you ever come to a video shoot of mine one day – I'm very private about those things, I don't really talk to everybody. I'm not like the party girl running around. I might even seem to be a bit of a diva. I'm sort of with myself, in my work head space worrying about costumes, and if extras look right, and placement. I don't just show up for things, you know. That video was a vision of mine. It was Molina the director who wanted to do something, to have a performance art aspect that was so pop but it was still commercial, but that felt like lifestyle. It was all those things, I love it.

RS: I heard you say this quote I loved, and I'd love for you to explain it – you 'make music for the dress.'
Lady Gaga: Yes, absolutely. I mean I don't write records and then decide what the video will look like. I instantaneously write things at the same time so it's a complete vision, the song and the visual, the way that I would perform it on the stage. It's something that all comes to me at once. So when I say I make the music for the dress, the dress is a bit of a metaphor for 'I make the music for everything,' for the entire performance vision.

RS: What's the story behind the song "Paparazzi," because there's been a few interpretations of it?
Lady Gaga: Well I'm so glad there are a few different interpretations, that was the idea. The song is about a few different things – it's about my struggles, do I want fame or do I want love? It's also about wooing the paparazzi to fall in love with me. It's about the media whoring, if you will, watching ersatzes make fools of themselves to their station. It's a love song for the cameras, but it's also a love song about fame or love – can you have both, or can you only have one?

RS: I read somewhere that you went to school with the Hilton sisters?
Lady Gaga: I did.

RS: Did they have any affect on you?
Lady Gaga: They're very pretty, and very clean. Very, very clean. You know, I never saw Paris, she was older than me, and it's funny that the press always write that I went to school with the Hilton sisters, but I actually only went with Nicky. Paris, I believe, left and went to Dwight. But, you know, it's impressive to be that perfect all the time, these girls. I was always a weird girl in school, who did theatre and came to school with lots of red lipstick on or my hair perfectly curled, or whatever I was doing to get attention. It's funny as it's almost like they were there to make me aware, because so much of what I do now is that I try to twist my world into the commercial community. So I guess they've been quite an influence on me. Not them in particular, but the idea of the self-proclaimed artist.

RS: You're making dance music, but you're signed to a more hip-hop artist program. There's often been a lot of conflict between hip-hop and dance.
Lady Gaga: Right.

RS: How are you bridging the two?
Lady Gaga: Oh, I actually wouldn't consider myself a dance artist. I think I'm bridging the gap in a few different ways, and it's mostly from a music conceptual standpoint, mixing the dance beats one second. Mixing retro dance beats with more urban melodies, and a certainly pop chorus. It's really about, in a very methodic way, almost choosing exactly what pieces of what I want to have in the record, and then watching it cross over, with my fingers crossed.

RS: What's the story behind "Dirty Rich?" I love that song.
Lady Gaga: I was doing a lot of drugs when I wrote "Dirty Rich." It was about two years ago, and it was about a few different things. First and foremost the record is about – whoever you are or where you live – you can self-proclaim this inner fame based on your personal style, and your opinions about art and the world, despite being conscious of it. But it's also about how on the Lower East side, there was a lot of rich kids who did drugs and said that they were poor artists, so it's also a knock at that. 'Daddy I'm so sorry, I'm so, so sorry, yes, we just like to party.' I used to hear my friends on the phone with their parents, asking for money before they would go buy drugs. So, that was an interesting time for me, but it's funny that what came out of that record – because it's about many different things – but ultimately what I want people to take from it is "Bang-bang." No matter who you are and where you come from, you can feel beautiful and dirty rich.

RS: I saw some performances online of you at Lollapalooza. What was it like playing there?
Lady Gaga: It was a blast. I mean, it was a bit nerve-wracking; we had tremendous technical difficulties on the stage. That was not a performance that I choose to really remember so fondly. But if anything, what I loved the most about it was that the sea of hippies and so forth that were there were not expecting what they saw and I loved the shock art aspect of it. Actually I'm hoping to incorporate some pretty interesting things into the show that capture their reactions and stuff. You'll see more of that in the future.

RS: OK. Lady Gaga, what would you like to say to all of your new fans out there?
Lady Gaga: I would just want to say thank you, I love you, I appreciate so much the support that you all give me. You listeners, the ones who found me first are, I believe, the future of great art thinkers. Because anyone that's found me now I really think is grabbing on to the ideas that I have, more than anything. It's about the music but it's also about the story. So thank you guys for loving and reading the story and being as into it and as passionate as I am.

Poker Face was just released as a single in the US...I think Beautiful dirty rich was just a promotional thing for the show Lipstick jungle...Poker face is the official new single...and I really really hope it does well cuz it's an AMAZING song...

I cannot wait to hear what she's gonna come up with next...there are a few tracks that we haven't heard the full versions of yet (Starstruck, Retro physical, Honest eyes)...can't wait!!

dddaiyamondo 29th September 2008 10:10 AM

"Paparazzi" is the only song on the album that's any good besides "Just Dance", IMO. I downloaded the album and had to delete almost all of it cuz of how awful it was.

[taskin.ayu] 30th September 2008 12:01 AM

According to wikipedia, Beautiful Dirty Rich is the US single, and Pokerface is the European release. XD

bondingo 30th September 2008 02:07 AM

tinka69 12th October 2008 08:01 AM

I'm glad she hasnt got the typical 'innocent' image that artists always have when they start off big. The industry needs a change.

sanzo2011 12th October 2008 08:42 AM

Kaiouforever 13th October 2008 02:16 AM

p3ayu 22nd October 2008 12:33 AM

I just got the album a couple days ago and haven't stopped listening to it!! I can't wait for the physical release in the US. I looked for it at BestBuy the other day when I was getting the new Keane album and it wasn't there, so I'm assuming it hasn't come out yet...? I could be wrong though. Does anyone have the songs that aren't on the US release? I forget the names right now.

tobehanabi 23rd October 2008 06:44 AM

The US version comes out on october 28th. The new songs featured on this version are Starstruck and Paper Gangsta...both have leaked..you can hear them on youtube and they're HOTTT....

The canadian version has Money Honey...which is also really good....

also, the new video for Poker Face is out...I like it, but wished there were more dancing...

bondingo 23rd October 2008 07:06 AM

I loved the Poker Face video. I didn't even like the song much the one time I heard it before, but I'm definitely liking it now. She's so talented and insanely original. I really hope she becomes the next big thing.

SURREAL__RAINBOW 23rd October 2008 07:26 AM

dddaiyamondo 26th October 2008 12:42 AM

OK for some reason I really thought Lady GaGa was popular in the States... yet "Just Dance" hasn't even cracked the top 50 here. Weird.

Partino 26th October 2008 03:39 AM

^ who needs mainstream when you have pearls like that?

finally added a header to this thread.

LADY GAGA - POKER FACE

p3ayu 28th October 2008 12:25 AM

I absolutely love the Poker Face video! My fondness for that song has grown so much over the past week. I also love her videos that she does on her YouTube account. She seems like such a nice girl in real life. I'm going to try my hardest to get the album this week!!

bondingo 29th October 2008 06:03 AM

I just bought The Fame. It's a very promising debut. I think I was expecting a little too much, but it's still a really good album by any standards. I'm sure it will grow on me a lot. A few of the songs already have.

Luv ~Venus~ 29th October 2008 05:15 PM

^Because Bondy has widely been promoting Lady Gaga in his siggy for a while now (:bchuck), I decide to go to youtube to check her videos and without any knowledge that Poker face was her new video/song, I checked on it. I thought the video was really weird but cool. I like the song as well. I think I listen to some more of her stuff before I decide to call myself a fan.

off-topic: Has anyone see X-tina's new video? OMG! Her style to the video reminded me of Lady Gaga. @_@ The video was ****** tho. Horrible X-tina, horrible.
