[YT] is GREEN plagiarism?
 

okay...for those of you that know me, you know i'm a total ayu devotee and i will always defend her no matter what but i came across something on youtube that kinda shocked me and made me angry. lol GREEN sounds identical to a song by a chinese artist. i don't know what to think. watch the video and decide for yourself.

^Thread made discussing this, there's only a 30 second preview available of GREEN wait for the full song to make judgements please, and tbh, the only similarity is the way the notes are high at the end of each line, which is similar to EVERY MY STORY BALLAD AS WELL. similarities between GREEN and the Chinese song.

Well, actually they do sound similar, even though GREEN is only a 30 second preview :rolleyes
It's clear that they're very similar, especially in the way they both sing the lyrics almost exactly the same, so I think the fact that GREEN is only a preview is completely irrelevant. . .

It's COMPLETELY relevant. We don't know what the full GREEN sounds like, so we can't make a judgment yet. They aren't all that similar really, they even sound like they're in different keys...

as do i...seeing as the words are sang the same way and the music is the same. i never attacked and said that it WAS a copy so there is no reason to get all defensive. i was just curious about what others thought and i didn't know there was already a thread for it.

Yes, we can make a judgement.
Yeah, it's only a preview, but it's still the song, so we know how it sounds.
It would be different if it were a 5 second preview, but it's not. It's 30 seconds. And that is PLENTY long enough to make a connection with that Chinese song...
And, I didn't say it was a copy either. I'm just saying it sounds similar.

me too!! i'm completely addicted to the song already! it's always stuck in my head and i hum it every day. the fan-made piano version on youtube is amazing as well.

This news was a 'hit' like a couple weeks ago. Now it is like reading old news.

well, not everyone is on the internet 24-7 looking up ayu news and actually, i've been gone on vacation for over a month and haven't had access to the internet. god forbid that i'm just finding out... >.<

^ I know I was shocked too. But I like Chen Cen Ming from my parents. So I think it is good that Ayu, if it is true, did her song.

ANyway, I don;t mind at all if Ayu do some cover songs. If other famous artists like Namie n Koda did cover some other artists' songs, why can;t Ayumi?

anyways...did you guys ever thought that it can end up like the 'will' panasonic fx9 cm -> full version of the song? they looped the same part in the cm but the actual song is not like that...so its possible GREEN is like that...we just have to wait for the full version.

@on topic: I don't think GREEN sounds anything like the Chinese song. i really have to agree that you can't judge the whole song on just a 30 second preview. for all we know GREEN could bust out into a hard core rock song or something.

I think plagraism is too strong of a word. That could be a reason for some of the more... negative comments.

30 seconds is iffy. Yes, it could be edited they way Will was, but there is a chance that it isn't. I think we will have to wait for the full song before we can fully judge. I think based only on the 30 second clip, the songs do sound somewhat similar.

yes the actual song could be like that XD...but either way it doesn't matter to me (as long as they don't make the song worse like beautiful fighters cm -> actual song)...I just want a new song! we only got 1 1/2 new song this year. :(

there is like 0,001% of similarity in those 2 songs + you REALLY can't judge GREEN right now. just wait until it's released and then you can compare the 2 songs ok?

and even if it were a cover, it would be ok as long as it's legal. just look at rainy day, that song RULES!!!!!!!

i mean you can't judge on a 30 sec preview! and i agree with the people talking about Will...kinda like humming 7/4 you think it's all rock...then it goes pop @_@

I don't think the songs sound "exactly the same." More like "the same occassional notes." They're going up the same scale in the first part of the chorus and that's it. Ayu does it one way, the chinese singer does it another way. Then they part ways after that and the similarity is gone xD;

Until we get the full song, we cannot say ANYTHING. I'm incredibly disappointed that fans would even consider that Ayu would randomly copy a Chinese song from a decade ago.

Eh, whatever. I don't know if I care enough anymore. Still love Ayu, but some of the discussions that go on around here are very.. hollow.

you don't know anything about how the song sounds as a whole if you hear 30 seconds of it. you do, in fact, know how 30 seconds of the song sounds but that's it.

But in the end, no one's going to come to the conclusion that if was copied or plagiarised, so it doesn't matter.

And even if they do, no one's going to believe or encourage anything bad about Ayu. They might blame it on the composers...but even that's a stretch. It'll just be forgotten anyway, and everyone will remember Ayu and her version because, thats why people are here in the first place.

If that's the case then you could've made the judgement/judgment that Will sounded like that song from Kiki's Delivery Service since that was like a 30 second snippet of the melody and etc.~

But guess what? They were NOTHING ALIKE OTHER THAN THOSE >>30 SECONDS.

It's frustrating that people love to defend something that has a tiiiiiiiiiinny bit of proof and then in the end, it's all worthless.

I think the trhread starter doesn't need to defend him/herself by saying they're an ayu devotee. We know. Almost everyone on the forum is an Ayu fan, it's just that there's SOME people here that freak out when you say something about Ayu that's near negativity.

I just listened with a friend who is not really into Jpop but we both concluded that at least the chorus sounds identical. The only difference is the language. Of course Ayu's song may start out differently than the Chinese, but th chorus IS identical.

And I'm not gonna say "I'm an ayu fan!!" and defend myself for saying something "negative" I'm just being realistic.


By the way, the chorus of "Will" also sounds like Oda Kazumasa's song "KIRAKIRA". Dunno if you ever heard it, but it does. Not entirely, but the start of the chorus certainly does. So I wouldn't be surprised if Ayu used the Chinese song's chorus, with or without permission.

ps. we don't have to wait for the full version, if your ears function well you can hear the chorusses are identical. thank you

As I said in the last thread, I agree that it is too early to tell based on a 30s preview. The voiceover blocks out almost all but about 8 seconds of pure music so whatever conclusion you come to will be pretty biased.

Ayu HAS done lots of covers. Sotsugyou Shashin, Bold & Delicious, In the Corner and Pride to name a few. There is a possibility this is a cover but we can't say that as a fact yet.

Ayu already gets a lot of schtick about plagiarism from other sites so you'll naturally get people's backs up when it's suggested here too. I do not think a verdict can be reached with a 30s, sketchy-at-best CM.

I think that people love to blow things out of proportion. So what if a line or two sounds similar? That's like maybe 5% of a song. And what is the other 95% is TOTALLY different?
