ok i added the pic of the lyrics! for those who know chinese, but want to make sure what ayu is singing!
|
its a great attempt but sometimes i have a hard time hearing what she is singing...but chinese isnt easy so :)
anyways still nice should please the chinese/taiwanese fans :) |
thank pommy i'm DLing! and i cant wait for it
edit: i had listened to it, and oh my god, did she pronoucing japanese? i know she had put so much effort for this, but i think she can do much better! good luck ayu! |
It sounds amazing but whoaaaa her accent is so thick. In one of the first parts of the song, I couldn't tell if it was Chinese or Japanese.
|
I understand her chinese after listening to it a few times.
But her accent is horrible. She had very nice vocals, though. =] Cute. |
My mandarin is good, and I'm sorry to say she has pronounced several words a bit wrong. It seems some parts she makes fewer mistakes than others, I'd say the last verses are very good, but the longer verses she makes a few mistakes in. Overall though, I'd say she's done a really good job.
If she keeps practising (the pronunciation), she'll get better. I'm a bit concerned she might already think she's got it perfect and might not bother trying to improve it any more. If she can iron out the few errors, it'll be awesome. by the way, the chinese lyrics that you've typed on the front page don't all match the actual booklet lyrics. Thanks for sharing guys! Let's see how this goes down with the chinese fans... |
oh haha you're right, i didn't notice that much, i copied and pasted so that's why~ let me correct it
|
Quote:
We should proud of her |
Riozz, I am very proud of her, and so happy she has even tried!!!!
I just hope she will keep improving....I've heard some chinese fans already saying that her chinese is not good... this makes me angry!!!!! I want her to do the best she can so we don't have people saying this!!! I think she's done amazingly well. like I said, just a few errors. and we all know she's tried so hard. it will really piss me off to have some "fans" dismissing it as rubbish.... grrrrr. EDIT: Here are the Simplified Chinese lyrics: Quote:
|
^I agree. It's OK for people to voice their opinion, but did they really expect it to be perfect? It's natural that she has an accent and mispronounces some words. She doesn't even speak Chinese! I could imagine that someone wrote the Chinese lyrics down in katakana for her - and those aren't always accurate with the actual pronounciation.
|
I just want to add,
I LOVE the way she says "漫漫" (man man)!!!!! So cute!!!! |
I just finished downloading it and listening to it right now...:D THANKS I CAN FINALLY HEAR HER CLEARLY! HAHA!!
|
10x a lot :P
|
for this line...别离渡过的夜晚
I heard 陪你渡过的夜晚 |
thanks for sharing ^^^
|
What I'm going to say next isn't meant to be any offensive for people from China. This is just my opinion!
Cool. I'm not very fond of chinese language, but that's just because I haven't listened songs that are sung in chinese. I listen to japanese music more so I've gotten used to J-music more. :/ |
Thank you!
|
thanks..
i prefer the japanese one.. but nice job ayu!! |
Ayu's effort to master the chinese version is greatly appreciated =]
|
So did she actually do the writing of the Chinese lyrics?
|
Thanks pommy for sharing! I've been waiting to hear this Chinese version for a long time! lolz. I think Ayu still sounds great. ^_^
But it's just that it's the first time I hear Ayu sing in Chinese so at first I thought it didn't quite sound like her. it's still a great song. oh so nice of Ayu.. if she speaks more I'm sure her Chinese wld be betteR! |
Quote:
But Ayu's voice sounds better in this Chinese ver. than the 10th Anniversary ver. somehow. |
Haha awesome! Can anyone translate the Chinese? I'm sure it can't be an unchanged translation of the Japanese...
|
For those not understanding Chineses, I try my best to translate it into similar English. For some lyrics I am not translating the exact wordings but the meaning~
Quote:
Some pronouncation is funny, for example, "When me and you seperated in two places" (兩端), what i can hear is (兩團) and it becomes "When me and you divided into two parts" lol But overall it is a VERY GOOD JOB for a japanese to sing Chinese song...I greatly wish that Ayu will perform this song tomorrow...:luv2 |
This Chinese version of WHO.. the key is lower than the original version...
I think she has made a really great attempt in singing it and pronouncing it correctly. Chinese pronunciation isn't easy especially when Chinese has 4 different vocal accent when japanese doesn't. I think she has sung it well. PS: what I am going say next isn't nice to the chinese lyricist. I seriously think, the original Ayu lyrics are SO MUCH BETTER. The meaning of the song or whatsoever. She wrote it so well. Even if translate it from Japanese to Mandarin. The meaning shouldn't change that much. What's worst... I think the chinese lyrics are really bad. It just doesn't flow and what's with the "Moon lady" ? does that even appear in the original lyrics? I am really sorry to the 2 lyricists that somehow translate or should I say recreate the lyrics of this song BUT I just can't stand the lyrics. Doesn't flow and in actual fact, I do think there are quite a grammatical and sentence structure errors. These errors are something that will not happen in the lyrics of other Chinese Songs. Seriously, all I can say is.. Ayu's lyrics really rock and it has a deepper and better meaning. Now it seems like... the song is wonderful but the lyrics are terrible. totally ruin such a beautiful song. sorry if I have offended anyone |
I was interested to see that there were some differences in the songs lyrics when compared to the Japanese original, I also wanted to let people understand how this song would sound to Chinese people.
So I translated it. Follow the link for my side by side translations. Quote:
I made two translations, the first is a song translation, where I have tried to translate the song as it is sung, making sure the word order and rhythm is not messed up too much. The timing is good enough that you can use these English lyrics to actually sing with. The second one is a pure translation, where I tried to find the English that best captured the meaning of each line, without worrying about word order or rhythm. I would like to hear suggestions on any changes I could make. If you think I have misinterpreted or mistranslated please let me know. |
Lol Her voice DOES sound better in this version, how odd hahaha
I'm no master of Chinese by any means, but I think I can understand what people were talking about when saying it's "mispronunced" at some parts. But I still say GOOD JOB AYU, this version is beautiful :D |
I love this song~ It is EXCELLENT for a first-timer on a full mandarin song~ go go ayu!!
|
I'm really proud of Ayu!!!
her chinese if not perfect, but that's a huge step for her, for a top japanese singer. what can I say? she sounds better than some so-called chinese (cantonese) singers singing in mandarin. or mandarin singers singing in cantonese. |
My translation for those who don't understand mandarin.
uh- la la la... 最难以渡过谁陪我 陪著我一直不放手 Who was the one that will not let go of my hand in the most unbearable times 当泪流在眼眸 是谁让我依靠诉说? Who was the one that listens and allows me to depend on when my tears flow out of my eyes 有了快乐欢笑时候 和谁享受? Who was the one that I will be able to share with when I have laughter and happiness 曾有过和我双手紧紧握 是谁? Who was the one that has hold my hand tightly 全都想起在我心里头 I have once again remembered all of them in my heart 我和你分开两端 别离渡过的夜晚 On the very night when both of us are separated 只见月娘在天边 泪一点一滴流 The Moon Lady (or Lady of the moon) shed her tears in the heaven 我和你分开两端 别离渡过的夜晚 On the very night when both of us are separated 只见月娘在天边 泪一直流 The Moon Lady (or Lady of the moon) shed her tears in the heaven 真的坚强 怎样才对 让我心明白的人那是谁? Who was the one that has helped me in understanding the truth about being strong 又曾是谁 温柔以对 那感觉让我有体会? Again, who was the one that has touched my heart with comfort and gentleness 有了谁 让我才会 开始想迈步去追? Only if I have someone ("who"), Will I start to move on? (who is the original word but I changed it to someone if not the sentence is really weird) 希望谁 手指放我发间 轻轻抚慰? Who will I hope to put his hand on my hair and feel it gently. 是谁有 耐心守著陪著我 不放弃念头? Who will have the patience to stay with me with the "never give up" thinking 这我不忘一直放心中 I have never forgotten all these as they are always in my heart 我曾有 没有方向迷路的时候 I have once experienced lost and helplessness 也有过 长路漫漫那种感受 I have experience long and winding road too. 只能够 喃喃自语地对自己说 But all I could mutter to myself was 就这样没有什么... "it's nothing, that's all" 但愿今天到永久 祈祷这歌声能够 I could only pray that this voice 能传到你左右 在你身边停留 Could stay and convey to you from now till forever 但愿今天到永久 祈祷这歌声能够 I could only pray that this voice 能传到你左右 陪你停留 Could stay and convey to you from now till forever 但愿今天到永久 祈祷这歌声能够 I could only pray that this voice 能传到你左右 在你身边停留 Could stay and convey to you from now till forever 但愿今天到永久 祈祷这歌声能够 I could only pray that this voice 能传到你左右 陪你停留 Could stay and convey to you from now till forever ha-a-a- -------------- I don't think it flows well too since I am just direct translating the meaning without refining it. Let me try to think of ways to improve on my translation but for the moment, this will be it. |

|
Not a bad job on Ayu's part for her first time singing a full Chinese (Mandarin) song. I am very proud of her attempt!
|
Here is my "translation", I have focussed on the meaning of the lines, and not the way they are sung.
*I am still confused about the moon woman. Quote:
|
I love you for this!
Thank you so much! |
thanks!!
|
are there a romanized lyrics too?
thakn you very much! |
Thanks... gooo ayu... she sounded so weird... But seriously good try!!!!
|
Here is the pinyin, not quite what I'd call "romanized", but this is how it is:
EDIT: I added some spaces to the pinyin to make the individual words clearer. Quote:
|
thankeeee ^^ its better than nothing:)) i just wanted something that can match the words:)
|
I can't download from site..is there direct download??? pls...? thx!
|
use the mediafire link on the first page
|
the song sounds soo nice in chinese!
so Ayu wasnt the one who changed the lyrics? |
Interesting. I like it, though I hope, as jon_the_d has stated, she doesn't think it is perfect and quits working on it. :)
|
Quote:
从今天到永远 听到我的歌声 送到你们心中 这是我的愿望 从今天到永远 听到我的歌声 送到你们心中 我的愿望 So (for those of you who don't know chinese) the version from last year is using simpler words, and the official version is a bit more formal and wordy, and sounds a bit more like poetry. The meaning is basically the same though. |
Her pronunciation is not great, it comes out mangled most of the time, but Mandarin is not really an easy language to speak, especially since it was sung kinda fast-paced and I think that's where the mangling comes from.
But vocally, I think it's better than the japanese version. |
Vocally, AMAZING.
Pronunciation.. needs a lot of work. My dad couldn't understand her save for a few key phrases like "by your side" or "the horizon". For someone who barely speaks Chinese other than xie xie and wo ai ni, she did okay though. |
Thank you so much! :D
|
Wow.. different for sure, but her voice sounds really good.
|
Ah.. a nice song.. interessting to hear that song in Mandarin.
Sure.. her pronuncing is not perfekt.. but.. thats ok.. she is no chinese.. and chinese is very difficult. So.. she did it well. (^_^) |
thanks a lot for the HQ version
|
Thanks!Her voice sounds so nice...
|
Quote:
I don't think it's moon woman??? should it be just moon 月亮?? Is that lyric official? I think her chinese really isn't that good..but than she's japanese...so you can't compare her to a native chinese..I think she put in a lot of effort already...and I'm very happy that she has a chinese song!!! |
It is official, see the booklet scan on the first post.
I doubt it's an error.... |
Oh thank you! I was waiting on the HQ one because I just can't stand how low the other one was. I couldn't listen to it like the others could ><
|
sounds japanese to me... mix with some chinese words
|
Quote:
|
My parents are translating it right now.
Apparently the moon is regarded as very feminine.. and there's a woman on a lot of mooncake stuff that has that woman on it. And the Chinese people believe that there's a woman that lives on the moon and such.. |
shes going global! nice job! lets expect more next year.. korean? or even FULL english single...? but i don't think so.. on english just let Hikki's or Ken Hirai do it..
|
Here's my parents' collaborative translation:
Quote:
I have to note that the translation of the "lost" path part differs.. apparently my dad said it can be either way depending on who is translating. |
it's really not bad, though some of the pronunciations sound pretty katakana-ized.
月娘 is indeed, the lady on the moon. As in, it's a sort of Chinese tradition that there is a female goddess on the Moon. |
...the moon lady is known as Chang Er (i think)
she used to be a goddess, got banned with her husband, she swallow 2 immortality pills...she floats to the moon~ |
Ayu's pronounciation is indeed "moon woman" (literally)
I think it means "moon goddess". |
It's not really "moon goddess"..
In the original Who... she talks about how the moon was crying or something (Remember this is 1999, so don't be complaining about something) and she takes it further in the Chinese one by using the Chinese folklore that a woman is (on) the moon. |
I change my mind, her pronouncviation is almost good
but the most important thing is this song is even sadder than the original one..plus the 10th anniversary version both have really strong vocals ayu's voice is just so nice |
the words are definitely yueniang (月娘), you can see IN THE BOOKLET. (seriously, it's in the OP, how have some of you not seen it?)
It's unclear whose crying though, could be the moon woman, could be herself, watching the moon/thinking about the moon woman. It's best left ambiguous, but then it won't sound right in english. I'm convinced she's talking about herself, crying as she looks at the moon. (even if she is thinking about the moon woman/chang'e, I still think it is ayu who is crying.) truehappiness: how have your parents come up with "I have never lost my way..."? It says: 我曾有 没有方向迷路的时候, this translates as: 我曾有 = I have had/once had 没有方向 = no direction 迷路 = lost 的时候 = times I'd put that into a sentence like this: "I have had times when I was without direction and lost." besides, this makes more sense in the verse and fits with the japanese version. I think we should start a thread to discuss these lyrics!!! |
I dunno, my parents are extremely fluent in Chinese and my dad said that there are two ways of translating that line depending on the translator and what they decide.
It's probably very complex tbh, since he sees spoken and written Chinese as pure art and has very abstract ideas at times. It's possible he misread it, but eh. He did acknowledge that it could be either way though. Quote:
|
thank you very much for it^^
|
Thanks for sharing the song and its lyrics! Good stuff. Ayu's pronunciation is pretty off and the grammar is questionable at best, but I like the lower key and her voice is made of win! My rather literal interpretation of the lyrics:
Who accompanied me through the hardest times? Accompanied me without letting go When tears are in my eyes, whom can I depend on and talk to? When I have happiness and joy, whom can I share them with? Holding my hands tightly as I grasped his own… Who was it? All of these thoughts surface in my heart You and I were at opposite ends; on the night we spent apart I could only see the moon fairy in the sky, shedding tears drop by drop You and I were at opposite ends; on the night we spent apart I could only see the moon fairy in the sky, tears flowing unceasingly True strength… What should it be? Who let my heart understand it? And who in the past… Was gentle so… He can let me experience that feeling? Who did I have… That made me… Begin wanting to move forward and give chase? Who did I hope… Would place his fingers in my hair, lightly comforting me? Who had… The patience to protect and accompany me, not giving up the idea? This I’ve not forgotten and kept in my heart I used to have… Times when I was directionless and lost And have experienced… The feeling of being on a long and endless road Only able to… Mumble to myself and say There is nothing to this… Hopefully for now and forever… I pray this song can Can reach your side, stay next to you Hopefully for now and forever… I pray this song can Can reach your side, stay with you Hopefully for now and forever… I pray this song can Can reach your side, stay next to you Hopefully for now and forever… I pray this song can Can reach your side, stay with you I kept the spaces between words in the same line by adding commas and ellipses. Once again, the grammar is… Special. The double can's in the last chorus were inherited from the repetition in the Chinese original. The second verse was especially trying! I like to think of 月娘, or the moon fairy, as 嫦娥 (Chang'e). Maybe it's all the Mid-Autumn Festival propaganda I grew up with, ha ha! But more than that, I can see her accidental lunar exile and tragic separation from her mortal lover, who's stuck on Earth, paralleled in the song. |
can i request for the pinyin of the lyric please??
thanks in advance~ |
|
Good effort on Ayu's part! :D Wooo~! All it matters is that she tried.
Thank you for sharing the links! |
ok sorry~
i added the pinyin link to the first post~ so that should be a lot easier |
Quote:
I have more respect for her as a musician lol |
Thnx for the song, I'm not big fan of Chinese language, BUT this one sounds very beautiful...
|
Thank you VERY much!
|
thank you
|
ouch. bad pronunciation but i love that she made the effort :)
|
Wow her voice. Its kind of diffrent. lol
|
LOL I'm a little late to this but thanx!!!
|
i should buy the Hk version soon, i saw it in the shops yesterday but i didnt buy it
|
wow this is wild stuff... in this thread, WHO is in Japanese, Chinese(M) and English lol! I dunno mandarin, has ayu had to 'settle' for certain Mandarin words so that she can sing the song in the same amount of syllables... it's interesting that it seems like the J to Eng translations give differences vs. the Mand. to Eng one.
|
who... in english??? did i miss anything???
|
no no~ i believe some members just want an english version of Who...
|
ayu has already done very well~
i much appreciated!!! |
i looked at the lyrics while listening to the song...i couldn't really understand her, but she sounded so passionate, so it makes up for it :D
