Biggest music industry markets in your country
There are all sorts of music in this world..I thought it would be interesting to find out what is currently popular in your country...as in most profitable? :P
Over here in Singapore, the biggest markets would have to go to taiwanese pop and english pop music...there are lots of artists coming here for concert every year...and the albums and concert tickets etc are all selling pretty well too...and jpop and kpop are just some of the minors over here...not that popular as chinese pop and english pop :grumpy |
Shouldn't this be in the general music/asian music section? :think
Well, I guess at the current moment, hip-hop, R&B, pop, and rock are the biggest market in America right now. IMO, more and more artists are gunning for the urban market as well. :) |
uh...the American music industry is biggest here?
or..I guess what luv said. :yes |
Electro-pop is rising here in Aust.
|
Well in the way you described the markets that are popular in Singapore, American music is without a doubt the most (if not the only) profitable market in the US. In terms of genres, I think that Pop/Rock and Hip Hop are the biggest sellers. I think anything that's T-Pain auto-tuned is pretty much guaranteed to be a hit :laugh
|
^Except for Ciara's new song with him. I don't like it at all. Although it's her style of music, I just don't like it. :no Some artist that T-Pain and Lil Wayne works with just doesn't work. She needs to go back to Missy again. Her last album was a disappontment to me. Goodies was definitely a great album for her.

hmm but over here it depends on individual...and TONS of malays listen to english pop and rock over here...on the contrary, the chinese over here...its like 50% listen more to chinese pop while the other half are mix of chinese and english...chinese and japanese etc..and techno and trance music used to be v popular in the late 90s...but not now anymore i guess?

^um...not really, at least not where I live...
The mexicans have been taking over the radio stations actually...:laugh mexican music is like over half the channels...it wasn't always that way. Other than that, its the usualy mix of rock, hiphop, rap, pop whatever, then a few jazz, and one classical. |
Country is the largest selling market in the United States, last time I checked.
|
^no it's not, thank god. It probably HAS the largest market in the United States, of course, but according to the RIAA, it is not the top seller.

I find that really odd... I can't even think of the last time rock music had a huge hit. Or maybe I just don't pay much attention to them :laugh Also, really odd that pop music is at #5. Maybe it's just the fact that very few things are "pop" nowadays. Even artists like Britney or Justin Timberlake go into other genres. |

Honestly, I think just marketing has increased a lot for them. I see Country ads all over the place. Annoying actually...but im biased...I hate Country music Lol. except Shania Twain if you call her country. |

Now I can't decide which I hate the most: country, rap or **** rock like Nickelback. |
In Finland biggest markets are rock and rock pop mostly, because I have noticed that everytime there's some song playing on the radio, it's always rock based song. And it's mostly american rock music. But people in Finland also like hip hop, R&B and pop, but that kind of music isn't as popular as rock based music. :>

American rap rnb and basicallly that whole genre of disgust and idiocy seems to be the 'in thing' around here
|
Lately in Italy are raised genres like poprock and hiphop.
But the most famous genres are the light music, pop, house, rock and singer-songwriterclassysnob things. |
Hip-Hop, Rap, R&B mostly :|

I;m from SG too :) My fav music is j-pop and trance! I have many friends here that listen mostly to bands, both chinese and english, especially english. Whenever I went into a music store, my friend would kept pointing out j-pop section and go 'hey you favourite!' cause they only listen to c-pop and e-pop :p
