Similar to UNITE! cover

Well, I was on a website when I noticed something. You know how on the sides of websites they usually display ads? Well anyway, there was a picture.

Doesn't that look eerily similar to Unite?

Coincidence? probably, but still...

yeah, it's pretty pointless. but out of the corner of my eye, i actually thought it was the cover. :tired

zoomzoom 2nd November 2008 09:35 PM

It's a pretty common beach pose, I think there was a picture of Madonna or something that was very similar too.

Delirium-Zer0 2nd November 2008 09:49 PM

I remember someone pointing out this ad right after UNITE! came out, back in '01... the ad had come out a few months prior.

I really think this was done deliberately, there are just TOO many similarities. The hand by the mouth, the sun coming up right behind the girl's butt (and on top of it, Ayu's is obviously fake - done on purpose to mimic the look of the ad, most likely), the sand sticking to their arms, the swept hair, both girls are topless & wearing only jean shorts, both have nothing but sand below them & cloudy skies above them.

The only difference is that one's flipped, and one is a more gray sky. WAY too many similarities for it to be coincidental.

But knowing ayu's love for madonna, my guess is that she woulda been copying her rather than this ad (then again, she copied Celine Dion's ad for "CAROLS", so maybe she does look at ads for inspiration, who knows). That depends on when Madonna's picture came out & how similar it is.

But this is NOT a common beach pose, at least not to this level of hilarious similarity.

Ugh! These pictures look NOTHING a like! I mean for starters one has Ayu in it and the other has some random girl! Ayu has blonde short hair, the other girl has long dark hair. They're facing different directions, Ayu's sun is fake and she spelled out UNITE! I mean come on people! There is NO similarity between these two pictures, NONE!!!

Spoiler:
I'm totally joking btw xD;.....

Ayumi27 2nd November 2008 10:58 PM

It was said long ago that Ayu "copied" that model for the UNITE! Cover, and the same thing with a Celine Dion advert and the CAROLS cover or something like that

For the record, I love that post SO MUCH and I want to hug you. XD

But yeah when the differences get THAT specific... well.... o_O

Your point is well-made, is all I'm saying. ^^

Kazeyomi 3rd November 2008 12:43 AM

well the poses of Ads are really nice sometimes.
So why don't copy them? lol.

The pose is definitely not unique to these 2 pictures, I've seen several others with this exact pose, since it's a creative way to be topless without showing anything.

Chibi_Venus 3rd November 2008 03:02 AM

Coincidence or not, I do think the two pictures are scarily similar, but in a cool way. :)

(We certainly need to do what one other member has mentioned before - a mass thread of "similarities." :P)

xLitax 3rd November 2008 03:10 AM

^ That would be a great idea. :yes

It's not a bad thing Ayu is inspired by other pictures or styles, etc. Ayu inspires me and many others, so she must get inspired by different things too.

AyuGAME 3rd November 2008 03:11 AM

yeah, its similar...but its kinda common pose...

AyUta 3rd November 2008 07:43 AM

Similar but very common beach pose. Also, that similarities thread sounds like a great idea :laugh

SURREAL__RAINBOW 5th November 2008 11:28 AM

xD

the song deserved better thou

U.U

anyway, ayu looks better I think xDD

Hahaha. Im not the first to say but, love you for that one! XD

MsMiyabi 5th November 2008 01:42 PM

I THINK she is just a model posing. I mean if you on the beach, your a model, & your topless how would you pose?

music_* 5th November 2008 02:48 PM

I think someone should just find out exactly how many pictures there are with people in this pose.
Then it'll be proven that it is a very common pose and the copying-from-so-and-so thing would be settled.
And hell, if anyone's to blame, how bout the photographer? Why's it always Ayu's fault? D: -grumbles-

xLitax 5th November 2008 03:16 PM

^ I never said it was Ayu's fault, if it sounded that way. Before Deli's post, I wasn't sure which came first. I thought it may have been the model copying Ayu.

Delirium-Zer0 5th November 2008 09:18 PM

I never said it was ayu's fault either. On the contrary, I always blame it on the designers & photographers. :P Even if ayu did say "I wanna do a pose laying on the beach like this person", it's the photographer & designer's fault if they decide to make it THAT much like the original. Shows a serious lack of creativity on their part.

Nothing's 100% original - people are inspired by things they see & hear all the time. Some of the best ideas in the world were just improvements on someone else's idea.

The thing is, though, they IMPROVED upon the idea. Edited it heavily to the point where you don't see a resemblance anymore.

But here, they didn't bother to do that - they just did their best to make a carbon-copy of the original photo. THAT is what's disappointing about it.

I think so. "Nothing's 100% original":D

True that! They could have had her in a different position holding her bossom or something. It would have been interesting if she was under a sea of stars next to the sea as well... anything would have been better than copying the original...

Jwiz 6th November 2008 02:12 AM

Both covers look similar to each other. Photographers please be more creative! :)
