Music producer Komuro to be arrested for fraud

Quote:

OSAKA —
Osaka prosecutors have decided to arrest well-known music producer Tetsuya Komuro on Tuesday on suspicion of defrauding a person out of 500 million yen by concluding a contract for the sale and transfer of copyrights he did not actually own, investigative sources said Monday. The 49-year-old Komuro is known for a large number of pop music hits since the 1990s but recently is said to have accumulated huge debts related to business and family matters.

He is suspected of pretending he owned the copyright to 806 tunes and concluding a 1 billion yen sales contract with the buyer in Hyogo Prefecture in August 2006, according to the sources. Komuro received 500 million yen as part of the contract that month, the sources said. Most of the 806 tunes were written by him but he was not authorized to transfer the copyright, the sources said.

ayumisrael 4th November 2008 02:19 AM

He composed ayu's A Song is born and some of namie's songs didn't he?

Wow, too bad =\.

The girls must be in shock or something..

bulmasman 4th November 2008 02:20 AM

o.o i'm speechless

nmskalmn 4th November 2008 02:42 AM

shocking :no

jbrat2219 4th November 2008 03:09 AM

.... So this guy did work for Ayu and such? I feel slow for not knowing who he is...

bulmasman 4th November 2008 03:14 AM

^ He's one of the biggest names in the Jpop industry - songwriter, producer, keyboard player. He's responsible for so many songs from so many artists.

ImpactBreaker 4th November 2008 03:28 AM

I hope his body can feel EXIT from prison :rolleyes

both announced singles have now been offically canceled.

acougan 4th November 2008 04:31 AM

wow, 806 tunes. i think the total of CDs sold containing TK songs ~100 million or something.

sad to see such a musical genius fall down from grace. i'll go listen to some globe songs to "salute" him

ExodusUK 4th November 2008 04:34 AM

I hope he goes down. he is very bad man!

Calico 4th November 2008 05:21 AM

Wow...what a shock.

I feel esp. sad for KEIKO (and not only for being his wife) and Marc, since globe was supposed to pick back up again soon. And I love globe. Hell I love all of TK's works. :cry

prussian blue 4th November 2008 07:34 AM

OMG! his face looks like my grandfather!! i thought he looks much younger :rolleyes

he is not doing any music lately (except the new globe single), right? i hope this wont affect any j-pop industry :( he is one of the legend in japan. not to mention that this guy is the one who found hitomi and namie

and as <3 you said, tomomi must be partying a lot tonight!

Meat Pao 4th November 2008 12:52 PM

Oh dear, that's a sad thing to hear. Well I don't really know much about him though I know he's produced Namie. He's also the producer of trf right?

prussian blue 4th November 2008 01:56 PM

^yap, and all the TK family like globe, hitomi, yuki uchida, TRF, H jungle with T, tomomi kahala (which is currently partying :P)

Minttulatte 4th November 2008 02:44 PM

This year's been really... surprising. I mean really. o___o I'm shocked.

evolusean 4th November 2008 03:01 PM

It is really shocking. I'm in Tokyo right now, and the general consensus seems to be that he was pressured into doing it by one of the other two men involved. A lot of people here feel bad for him, because he has a very sensitive, warm image, and they feel that he has had a rough time enough with his private life. That doesn't change what has been done, of course, but a lot of people feel that there's more to the story.

AyuHamasaki01 4th November 2008 03:33 PM

shocking ... that's all I can say.

My thoughts exactly...

And TK is looking really old in those pictures.

Rather Hazy 4th November 2008 03:33 PM

I'm absolutely gutted, that's all I can say. Just as globe were about to come back too.

summersnow 4th November 2008 04:48 PM

shocked news! *shake head*

howtousesexy 4th November 2008 05:55 PM

Oh wow, that is really shocking.

Rozzen 4th November 2008 11:23 PM

T_T He looks so sad

Zeke. 5th November 2008 01:48 AM

OMG how shocking!? How will this affect the return of globe? I was all excited and whatnot. I like his compositions.

Melon Panda 5th November 2008 05:09 AM

I hope crime doesn't affect his musical career too badly. I hope he continues to produce more artists in the future.

Princess Sohee 5th November 2008 05:13 AM

well - thats what he gets for breaking the law!!! i hope he`s put away for a VERY long time

Fevenita 5th November 2008 08:21 PM

I just read the news at jame-world.com after seeing the name "Tetsuya Komuro" which sounded very familiar to me. I had to check this guy on Wikipedia and I guess I remembered his name from V2, a band - if you can call it that, it was rather a project - he had with Yoshiki from X Japan in the beginning of the 1990's. This is very shocking indeed. Hopefully this won't be the end of his career.

And thanks evolusean for explaining the situation in Tokyo ^^ I'm glad people don't judge him right away.

Halla 5th November 2008 09:59 PM

Japanese pop producer arrested for fraud @ The Guardian

I like a lot of his works and globe, but I'm afraid don't really have any sympathy for him because of stuff like this:

Quote:

The peroxide blonde Komuro was never given to moderation: he drove Ferraris and owned villas in Hawaii, Bali and Malibu, and once boasted to a tabloid newspaper, "As my bankbook only shows up to 10 digits, I've lost track of my money."

At the height of his wealth he spent 20m yen reserving the entire first-class cabin on a flight from Tokyo to Los Angeles.
lwith the fortunes he has made, it shows some REALLY bad judgement to go in debt as much as he has :rolleyes

emi♡ 5th November 2008 10:06 PM

He's actually starting to sound incredibly stupid to me now...after a few comments on here...

I don't think he deserves to go to prison though. But I guess...that's how it works.

bulmasman 6th November 2008 01:50 AM

I'm surprised the guardian reported on this, but it seemed a pretty fair article. As much as i respect the man, fair's fair, he broke the law. I don't agree with anyone saying he needs to go to prison for a long time, though for fraud, prison is pretty much a dead cert i suppose. It's a sad case :(.

Far Away 6th November 2008 05:24 AM

This is so sad, I love Tetsuya Komuro. I can't believe it. I was looking forward to globe's return, too. But.. I just felt so sad when I read that he was driven from the hotel in tears. Even though what he did was wrong.. I just can't help but feel bad for him.

After reading that, rotting in jail would do well for him :P

jpopfan 6th November 2008 07:35 AM

I was so sad when I heard this. I Love Globe and Tetsuya. It is a shame this happened to him I hope he will be ok along with Keiko.

i cant ****ing believe it. WHYYYY :weep

prussian blue 6th November 2008 09:47 AM

^WHAT??????????????????

THATS SUCKS!! although i dont live in japan, but i feel displease by this news!!!

wait a minute, does that mean japan banned his works like can you celebrate only, or until her recent works?

does that mean hitomi's song is been banned too?? i mean her TK songs

♥ you! 6th November 2008 09:50 AM

It means all of Namie's works from Sweet 19 Blues >>>>break the rules. The non TK produced songs on break the rules are fine though, same with everything else. Except for Luvin it, that charity single she did for 9/11.

and yes, hitomi's TK produced stuff is blacklisted also :(

prussian blue 6th November 2008 09:55 AM

^awwwwww... this will be the news of the day...

poor TK and hitomi and the rest of part of TK family :weep :weep :weep :weep

wait a minute, tomo-chan said she was partying last night, and she wanted to do it again tonight, <3 you, wanna join?

Spoiler:
just kidding :P

♥ you! 6th November 2008 10:10 AM

LOL, I don't think I can party. This is bothering me soooo much, TK produced songs are some of my most favorite songs ever <_>. He is the reason why I started to like Japanese music in the first place. I really hope this blacklisting doesn't last for too long, but even once the ban is lifted it still won't be the same. We all know how long it took for Ami Suzuki to recover from her blacklisting...which pretty much ruined her career for life. But that's a whole other topic :(

and speaking of Tomo-chan a ton of reporters went to her house hoping for her to make a comment about the scandal, but she left the building without saying a word~

bluegie 6th November 2008 10:11 AM

I'm kinda surprised about him being arrested. Consider he was the biggest producer back then in Japan.. He was even called Godfather of Music when he was at the top of his game. And gosh he looks so old in those pics... He wasn't a good looking guy but he's not that ugly in my memory...

And I'm kinda glad that Namie hasn't worked for him for a long time so she isn't suffering as bad as the others..

really? tomo sounds very cool :P do you have any video for that?? i dont think ami's will be affected that much. she's been produced by capsule now. if she is affected, i think its just the same as hitomi, namie and other artist.

Well, he commited a crime, and apparently he was aware that he was really doing it. If it's proven, then yeah, he has to be judged and sentenced. I don't care if he's TK, if he's married to KEIKO, if he's from globe, if he composed many songs or if he found hitomi. Criminals must go to jail. It seems sad, but if he didn't want to get arrested, then he should've played fair. I don't show empathy for criminals just because of who they are.

UHPlus 6th November 2008 02:54 PM

Probably the reason why there's not even a single tk songs in BEST FICTION tour...

hpg23 6th November 2008 06:39 PM

^But the BEST FICTION TOUR tracklist was planned months before the news came out, I suppose. I donīt think TK phoned Namie and told her: "Hey girl, donīt put old stuff in the tour tracklist because the thing is turning pretty nasty, so xD" (and she went like: "OH-MY-GOD!! WHO??! CANīT SLEEP, CANīT EAT, IīM SICK!" sorry LOL Iīm thick tonight xDDDD)

ayumisrael 6th November 2008 06:52 PM

WHYYYYYY. I LOVE Namie's work with TK, it's probably my favorite phase of her career. Ah, this sucks. And Ami Suzuki, too.. she's just finally starting to bounce back.

MsMiyabi 6th November 2008 10:14 PM

I have see it yesterday. In the Japanese newspaper . I got it from the super market I will post the article if anyone wants me to

prussian blue 7th November 2008 07:06 AM

hey just wonder , will this happening affect the release of a-nation'08?? since TRF's songs are produced by him...

DOLCE 7th November 2008 07:14 AM

^ Hmm that's true. Wasn't globe supossed to be appearing on the dvd also?. They aren't!

prussian blue 7th November 2008 07:17 AM

^yes! and even namie will be in dvd, i dont think they wont put TK songs.

and wait, so thats mean we wont hear any TK songs in ay artist concert?? :weep can you imagine that there'll be no can you celebrate in namie's concert and boy meets girl by TRF in a-nation dvd?? :weep

freedreamer 7th November 2008 10:45 AM

Why are the songs banned...?
So the fact that...he doesnt own the songs means...wad?..i dunno how this works >.<

Wa.. this is really SHOCKING!

prussian blue 8th November 2008 02:17 PM

so, KEIKO won't divorce with TK at this moment, she said she will be with TK along this scandal. how sweet she is, i'm so touched :weep

Belinda 8th November 2008 02:33 PM

That really sucks about the blacklisting for the artists he worked with...... :( Globe is one of my all time favorites to sing to! sigh in japan, but until then, TK needs to take a long look in the mirror...... damn he's looking bad.... tsk tsk tk
(keiko...... she must feel like wth!!!)

nmskalmn 9th November 2008 12:17 AM

I don't completely understand why the other artists are being punished because of this. Since he doesn't own the music it means that the real owners (avex?) and the performers are going to suffer more, right?

Anyway I had the new globe singles preordered, so I'm pretty disappointed about it. :no

mimika 9th November 2008 09:37 PM

he was SOOOOO big couple years back...

how the jpop music industry chaanges!

acougan 10th November 2008 12:27 AM

that's the weird part. most of his best selling hits were from the 80s (TMN) and 90s (Avex).
what's the point of blacklisting a bunch of old songs from radio or karaoke?

some fans have uploaded some vintage YT videos of TMN of the 80s. haha, those footage are very entertaining and TK was really awesome back then too! :)
