Nice to see her twice on there.

Great to see Namie so high too!

panda♥ 15th December 2008 06:40 PM

Ayu may not have placed as high as others but I think having two spots on the list is more than enough compensation for that. :D Go Ayu & congrats to Namie.

maaya 15th December 2008 06:52 PM

wow! congrats to AYU~

Jeremy911 15th December 2008 06:58 PM

Im kinda dissapointed... Also does Oricron only count Japanese sales? Because i would think Ayu would sale more then that in Taiwan, and China.

Ayu ftw! N1!

MissElin_ 15th December 2008 09:49 PM

lol, of course since she is the only one to release two albums.

Honestly, I put all the Japanese artists at the top of the list when you take into account that their albums are in much more limited distribution than the rest of the artists who you can find pretty much anywhere around the world - the Japanese music industry is a monster.

ayuayu798 15th December 2008 10:17 PM

YAY!!!

ren0210989 15th December 2008 10:20 PM

^ I think exactly the same. I think that the American industry should stop complaining about piracy and ask themselves why the heck does Britney release an album and it sells 800.000 in the whole world in the first week, and why a Japanese artist can do the same just releasing it in Japan. American music industry is losing its old power imo...

AyuGAME 16th December 2008 01:48 AM

wow..that's cool...

prussian blue 16th December 2008 02:04 AM

Way to go Ayu!!
And other fellow Japanese singers!

Not only that, but Britney will not achieve number one of the world charts due to two Japanese groups. In her first week of release, Exile ballad best came out and sold around 950,000 copies. Now in her second week of release, Mr. Children comes out with an album that sells somewhere in the range of 700,000-800,000.

At some point music producers in America need to wake up and realize that the direction American music has been going in for quite some time now is a completely crappy one. A lot of it I think has to do with overall degradation in the quality of the music, lack of lyrical depth and lack of depth to most of the artists themselves. That is generalizing, but when you look at the whole of popular American music right now, I think its pretty accurate. I still love American music, but pretty much all of it comes from pre-2000. :)

elekons 16th December 2008 03:13 AM

ayu 741.000 the sales of two album ayu its great

SolarAngel 16th December 2008 03:18 AM

Neat. Ayu has such a strong fanbase which supports her 1st week sales. Now if only her sales could be as consistent as some of the artistes up there :P

I agree that the quality popular American music is declining but i think you should look at the sales trend for following weeks as well. Albums on japan charts almost always decline quite drastically in subsequent weeks but US albums can still sell hundreds of thousands in later weeks. The most i give Exile is 2 million but i'm sure Britney will go over that. This is only the first week sales, maybe there's no need to read too much into it.

That's true to an extent, however the point still remains that albums sold in only one country (with only half the population of the US) can sell the same and often times outsell those from the US that are available world wide is pretty amazing. Logically that just shouldn't be able to happen.

I also think that US albums are also getting more and more front loaded in their sales as well. It used to be albums would keep selling pretty steadily for years sometimes, but that doesn't seem to be the trend the last couple of years. Britney's last album for example, even to this day has not hit 1 million copies in the US.

Yum!Fruit_Salad! 16th December 2008 09:31 PM

Way to go, Ayu! You took down HEART STATION and Kingdom.
Yeah for Namie's high position!

Jwiz 17th December 2008 01:58 AM

Omg for GUILTY but AC did fairly well...anyway congratulations to both albums for making into the charts!

Chibi_Venus 17th December 2008 02:39 AM

Nice!

And is Circus really that amazing? Everyone really seems to like it!

Yeah i forgot about the worldwide perspective. And japanese albums are so much more expensive too. What drew me into japanese music in the first place was the quality of the instrumentation.
