When you are buying items..
 

I ordered my first items about a week ago (Rule/Sparkle CD+DVD and A BEST 2 -WHITE- CD+2DVD), and i wondered a bit about this..

When you are buying items, are you going to get all the stuff, or is it just for collecting things and say "Look at me, I'm an Ayu fan"?

I ordered Rule/Sparkle CD+DVD, because i think it's the best cover of the 3, and only because it has a poster. And the A BEST 2 -WHITE- CD+2DVD because it was so cheap for a CD and 2 DVDs, and it would be nice having a concert that I could watch when I'm doing other things, but all her concerts is so expensive. I don't really like the songs on the CD. Like, i think GUILTY is better than the songs at A BEST 2 -WHITE-, but i wouldn't buy guilty (It was released just when i became a fan, so then i didn't know anything about it), because i don't like the cover.

I haven't pre-ordered NEXT LEVEL yet (I would have done that if i know the USB would be sold out that fast!), 'cause I haven't seen the covers. The music, concert audio (Or the concert itself) and the PVs can always be downloaded. So it is probably not what I'm looking for.

I was thinking about.. Am i the only who think about it this way? What about you?

However, my stuff has like dual jobs. I only get first press items, and I usually will get the CD+DVD version, so it would add to a collection as well.

Um...I never buy ANYTHING to say "Hey look at me." I don't need people to look at me or know I'm an ayu fan. It's not important to me.

I buy it, because I want it, same with everything I buy.

I collect Ayu things because... I like collecting things. It's a nice hobby for me. Now, I'm not one to buy every version or every ayupan. I just get one version of singles, albums, and DVDs.

I buy mostly because for collection.
For CDs/DVDs because I want to have a complete discography some day. And the rest because I want to have it.
Some things I buy because I can get them cheap. (eg the PCDL Tape, I whould have neevr bought this when it haven´t been on YA, because over yahoo it whould have been to expensive) and some things I buy because I like them and really want to have it (eg the Hello Kitty Hoodie, I have a keen on Ayu; HK + pink.. perfect combo XD)

Of course I like to show my collection, because I am proud of it, but i don´t need ppl look at it. Oh and I like it to watch other ppl´s collections, seeing what interests they have^^

I will never get all of ayu's stuff, because that is not a goal to me. I only order ayu's CDs, a few dvds, and some merchandise just to have it and because I love her music. some fans feel that if they are able to get ALL of her items, then they are the ultimate ayu fan. I've already preordered NEXT LEVEL 2CD+DVD, but it would have been nice to have the USB, but I prefer the physical CD.

I buy CD's for the HQ music from the CD itself.
I'd rather have a HQ CD Rip, than a Download.

I buy ayu's stuff to collect and to support her. I don't want to just download everything and not contribute to the sales.

When I buy goods (particularly Ayu goods), it's because I want it, it has nothing to do with the packaging. It's like icing on the cake for me. But price isn't that big of an issue if it's reasonable, as my wallet will testify, I've spent hundreds of dollars on (just) Ayu on last year alone... But I had to have it ;)

I buy CDs because I like the feeling of owning a CD. I like to feel the cool plastic of the case in my fingers, flip through the booklet, just to have something tangible. The extras are a nice little bonus, but I'm not buying them because I want to have everything (except in the case of my beloved alan), I just like having the CD. Plus, it feels good to support your favorite artists. It easy to just click a link and download something, but that doesn't give any support, and you don't get the feeling you get when you own a CD.

I feel the same way! I've tried to explain this very concept to my friends who think downloading a cd is better, but they don't get it. Like most other people in here though, I tend to buy cds with songs that I like, not just to say I have them. I'd like to become a full fledged collector, but I would never buy something I didn't like. For instance, I bought Mirrorcle World and I plan on buying Next Level, but I refused to waste my money on Days/GREEN since I didn't like the single. Not to mention being a broke college student definitely limits this.

Well, to be honest I usually think singles are a waste of money. However if they include an extra as first press I tend to buy it. First press extras like posters are a nice thing to have and having special cases and stuff like that is nice. That's why I bought her 2008 singles. I don't buy Ayu stuff because I want to show off that I'm a fan. I buy them because I like them and I want to support her. I will not buy absolutely everything she releases but the stuff I like and that isn't unreasonably expensive.

Cuz I just want it.
And I also wanna support my idol. That's all.:)

Collecting her stuff is more like a hobbie for me :P I only buy what I want not just because its ayus but that's still a lot of her stuff that I collect, I suppose if I like it then buy it and if I don't I don't don't get it.

I wouldn't buy Ayu stuff because of the covers... I mean, what I like from her after all is her music, I could always download the single songs or the whole albums but I feel sooo nice when I buy the Album, feel it physically, open it up, check the art and listen to it on my CD player... feels as if I hear the songs for the very first time.

I guess it's a matter of tastes, if you don't feel like buying something from Ayu because you don't like the cover, well, it is the image you are buying then.

When I buy CDs and DVDs it's because I want them.

I buying Ayu's stuff 'cause I want them and I love to collect them too.
Maybe I'm a weird collector 'cause I don't care if the cds are japanese or chinese version lol.
I bought GUILTY chinese version especially for the posters XD even if people said 'no booklets are so bad printed blabla'

And when I will be rich I start to buy stuff from CDJapan and support her really.

for any artiste I support , I buy their stuff simply because I like their music & the material that they put out

I couldn't care less on other issues other than the fact that all of my $ are going to my fave artistes that I support & also I care more for the contents in a single/album/dvd

covers & 1st press goodies are secondary to me

I like looking at my collection and feeling like I helped support Ayu! Plus Cd's are so pretty - inside and out :)
I like to have nice covers - but honestly it doesn't matter
I try my best to support my favourite artists even if I become poor :P

I own and purchase EVERY dvd because I'm a HUGE sucker for live performances. I LOVE live performances. For me, you can gauge an artist as a whole based on their live performance.

As for the CDs, I don't really bother with the single unless I REALLY REALLY love it. I just wait for the album. I can count on ONE HAND the ayu songs I don't like...the rest I love.

I don't even show off my collection and brag about it the whole day. I buy it simply because I just like to have CDs and listening them on my stereo is like a thousand times better than listening to them on my computer. And of course I'm a collector so I also buy it for collective purposessss

^I agree with Travis on Listening to it on Stereo because my Laptop's speaker really is Horrid LOL

I believe in Paying for Good music and the Quality.
Another is to support the artiste.

The reason why I buy her CDs is that I had passion on music, lyric writing and of course, learning the Japanese language.

Im not just collecting them but to support the artist herself.

My first aim in buying is to support Ayu - I do try to buy Japan versions and the more expensive editions (such as the DVD versions of singles and albums)
Secondmost is the covers - I prefer to buy the nicest/most appealing covers so if I ever chose to show them off people would see beautiful/cute Ayu ^_^
Thirdmost important is the tracklist - in case of multiple releases of albums and singles I will most likely buy the one with the better tracklist in the more "expensive" version (ie. CD+DVD) and maybe at a later point get a CD-only version or buy it second-hand on eBay.

First Press bonuses do encourage me to buy as I love freebies. It's always great to get extras for nothing!

For Ayu's back-catalogue I am not fussy with JPN or OS versions....for one they don't really count towards her current sales anymore and they are usually cheaper (so I can get more!). Heehee

I buy Ayu stuff becos I like it and I wanted to have it. Not showing anyone that 'hey i'm a Ayu fan cos I buy this'.

I mean we obviously are Ayu fans. Dun think too much abt this lolz.

You totally missunderstands me :no It's not that I'm buying the image, but more the CD itself, as.. The cover, the case, the booklet, photobook and so.. I just think more about that, than of the songs, because I am going to put the CD in the computer anyways, just like if I downloaded it.
Like GUILTY, I don't really like the cover nor the booklet, so it's not really something i want, but i would absolutely buy it if i could get the first press edition, just for the collection. I really know what you mean about hearing the songs from your own CDs.. But I more like having the (fx.) photobook, booklet, cover and so in your hands, instead of just looking at it on your computer. With music, it's almost the same to me.. And with DVDs, it's really something different to see it in HQ on your TV instead of bad quality on your little computer..

Same here. Since I'm a starter collector of Ayu's products, I buy those which I really love very much 1st.

I buy her stuff because I want to own them, I want to support her.

And even if I were to brag around, no one would care. Not a lot of Ayu fans around me!

I buy the albums mostly now as they're all I can afford, I like to get the CD+DVD JP versions because the DVDs are the same region. Since RAINBOW I've been pre-ordering and getting the first press editions, but I think most likely next month will be the first time I won't be getting first press as I can't order online at the moment. I did used to try to buy posters of covers I liked from YA, but their deliveries were taking so long to arrive that I gave up buying from them.

The same for me. I want them. And Im a sucker for collecting things.

After all Im also a My Little Pony collector. ^^

My collections are never to impress anyone, its for fun for myself and I love them! Every piece of my collections are very dear to me. :)

I just recently became an Ayu fan so the first item I bought was GUILTY, and I just had to have the CD+DVD because I didn't wanna "miss out" on the DVD!

It's the same for every next item I bought (A Complete 3CD+DVD+Booklet, Days/GREEN CD+DVD+Slipcase+poster, etc.)
I just don't wanna miss anything and regret it later! That's why I'm gonna order NEXT LEVEL 2CD+DVD because I KNOW I'll regret it if I just buy CD or even CD+DVD.

I just HAVE to have it! I also bought all of her albums except ASFXX, LOVEppears and Duty.

I don't care for the books and stuff though. ridiculously expensive and I know I'll enjoy a CD, even a single, way better. I also don't care much for her older singles (got just 2) because there are way too many of em :p

I buy her stuff because I want it.

Also, when it comes to buying her singles/albums, I always feel it's nicer to have a physical copy than just a download.

i only buy if i really want it or need it, cuz ayu's stuff are soo expensive. and because i obssess over alota stuff xD

I buy for listening. I'll buy a physical copy of whatever I can't dl, because Prices are insane to buy online. I'll dl whatever I can from iTunes, which isn't anything anymmore. :eviltongu I don't really care about first press, unless its something really special, like Rule/Sparkle. If I come across something that First Press or Limited Edition at a really good price though, I'll buy it.

I never buy CD+DVD versions, because the only purpose that a Japanese DVD can serve in the US is as a coaster.

i buy ayu's album because i am one fan of hers and i am starting a collection of hers... so .... nuff said~

Eventually I wanna have everything, so I do occasionally buy merchandise on YAJ or something, but like... I don't have anywhere near enough money to do that, lol. So one day I'll get that stuff, but for right now I'm working on getting her complete CD discography. Price is the biggest driving factor for me at the moment, because I'm broke. So most of the Ayu CDs I get right now are used. I'm also prioritizing my favorite CDs at the moment. The CDs where, if all my mp3s died tomorrow, I'd be glad I at least had these.

Collectability is not a factor for me right now.

When buying magazines & clippings & books, I like getting stuff not many ayu fans have. That way, when my japanese gets good, I can translate interviews or books one day. Or I can scan photos from magazines that most galleries don't seem to have. I like the idea of contributing. (this is why I bought the dome tour 2001 tourbook - to scan it :P I sold it not long afterwards.)

I haven't been able to get anything on YAJ in awhile though. But i'm going to LA this summer, and you can bet I'll be camping at book-off. :P

That + I just prefer having physical copies, having a booklet, a cover, a cd, a case...maybe some extra or a poster

First, I want to support ayu, not because is ayu, I buy CD's or DVD's when I like the artist and the CD/DVD itself... With Ayu happens that I love everything she does, so I try to have all she does, in terms of music (CD's and DVD's) Since I was able to buy her material, I try to get always firsts press if it's possible, and CD+DVD always... But I don't do the same with merchandise or magazines or whatever... with goods I only buy them if I'll use them, although I'd want to have all.

It's also feeling of collectionism, but I had never (and I won't) bought one single or album 3 times, I've only done that with MW and D/G because of the packaging and the different making of in D/G... And also I like to have it materialy, to use them, and watch the booklets more than one time... But material thing is not the most important thing, as I said, I want to support Ayu, and I also supported her with Together When downloading it legally in mu-mo ^^

So.. No. I don't buy thing to say "look how fantastic ayu fan I’m!", it's only to my personal satisfaction ^^ XD

I collect ayu because I love her music and I love collecting something. Im not a horder or anything but think ayu does the job especially well, its never for the reason so I can go, look what I have, I only buy what I want which is really pretty much every thing she releases so its not too cheap for me :( lol but I dont get all versions of her things only the main ones like CD+DVD or 2CD+DVD JP versions and the same for her concerts. I went the cheap way out with her PCDL, im not complaining but I still like the best quality and little bit from here and there like ayupans etc :P

I buy the albums just because I want to collect them and listen to them (even though I rip the original and listen to a copy)...generally, I don't buy any other Ayu stuff...I'm too old to go out with Ayupans or other gadgets LOL :D
But I bought miss hong t-shirt to use during holydays!

I buy Ayu stuff to support Ayu's music and to make myself feel better. I'll buy every CDL DVD and album of Ayu. Ayu is my icon for everything that's why I want to be just like her.

i buy her albums 'cos i wanna listen and appreciate her music. it's as simple as that. Like what some of you here has mentioned, there's nothing like owning/buying a CD and holding it on your hands. it's that feeling you get, you know.. rather than just downloading music with a click of your mouse..

And the CD's come with extra goodies too xD and it's better to be reading the booklet in your hands rather than at the mouse on a computer screen. I try to collect everything CD wise since I want her whole discography in HQ in my computer xD I just like having them, they're nice. Even though they are used, I still cherish them a lot. I don't really bother with DVD's and Magazines though. I don't really like her tours all too much and I have no use for magazines / ayupans / concert stuff.
