Ayu tribute album, What do you think?
 

So if Ayu really does take a break I think that would be the perfect time for an Ayu tribute album. I Personally would love to see what the pillows or Tommy heavenly could do with her music. What does everyone else think?

Maybe for her 15th or 20th anniversary. Luna Sea and BUCK-TICK have one, they're both pretty good.

Agreed, if they could make a tribute album as good as the Luna Sea one then i'd be very happy.

If Western artists, especially those with vocal styles radically different than Ayu's (Josh Groban?), were part of the project, I would definitely buy a copy.

15th or 20th anniversary would be better. I would love to hear other artists cover Ayu songs, maybe Ken Hirai's LOVE ~Destiny~ could be included? :P

I think its a good idea, but they must not take her really private and emotional songs, somebody here wrote about teddy bear and Memorial Address, these 2 songs would be the biggest no-nos for covers, along with songs like A Song for XX, but songs speaking more generally like talkin' 2 myself, NEXT LEVEL or Connected would be great

A lot of people are saying 20th anniversary or after she's retired, but honestly, if she did decide to take a long break, it would be the perfect opportunity for Avex, IMO :laugh. I don't see them being able to milk her discography for another compilation, in any case. If it happened, I would hope for a broad selection of songs from all over her discography too ~ not just major singles or only pop songs/ballads.

Another thing is, it would be great if poppy songs could be covered in other styles, or rock songs done acoustically, etc. As long as the essence of the songs remained intact, I'd love to see a tribute album with a lot of variety in the songs, artists, and styles. :yes

^ OMG, yes!!! I love that idea. I don't like it as much when songs are covered with the same music as the original. Its so boring. They should get artists from a wide range of genres to cover her songs.

They should do a multi-CD package. Like, a CD for songs that were originally ballads, a CD for songs originally pop, a CD for rock originals, ect.. Or maybe different CDs for different genres the soings were covered into. Ayu has such a huge discography, I don't think you could cover all of her highlights on 1 CD. I know that this wouldn't happen, but what about a cover CD for each of Ayu's albums? Like, a cover album for A Song for XX, one for LOVEppears, one for Duty, ect.. I'm going over the top now, right? I just love the idea of Ayu being covered, seeing how its never happened, at least in Japanese, anyways. (to my knowledge)

singers who should definitely cover Ayu: Utada, Kumi, ELT, Gackt, Ai Otsuka, (...I'm out of artists. Ayu is the only singer I keep up with...). I could easily see Ai pulling off something like girlish, teddy bear, Humming 7/4, or independent. Utada should probably go with something not so... cutesy. I'm not sure what, at the moment, but Utada does great ballads, so maybe one of Ayu's ballads?. OMG. I have mental images of Gackt and Bold & Delicious that I never needed to see. I'd like to see Kumi do something like Rule, Startin', or one of Ayu's ballads.

Maybe some Western artists should cover. idk how much I like that idea, but its worth entertaining. I just don't want Lady GaGa murder all over one of Ayu's songs when a more fitting artist could've covered it. Not bashing Lady GaGa, I just don't think Eastern & Western music/artists can mix and match. She just happened to be the first artist to pop into my mind, so I used her as an example. Plus most of the Western artists would butcher the pronunciation if it was kept in the original Japanese. The idea of Blue Bird or Fairyland in a Lady GaGa type style is interesting, though.

(I'm putting way more thought into this than necessary, aren't I...)

P.S.: How much would you bet that the title would be A COVERS? lol

ALSO, I definitely don't want western artists doing the covers unless they have sufficiently studied Japanese pronunciation enough not to butcher the songs. I'd like to have something I enjoy listening to, rather than something that makes my ears bleed.

Utada would HAVE to cover something! I've wanted to hear her singing Ayu's songs and vice versa for years, because I just can't imagine it.

Utada singing Mirrorcle World would be a trip, or Ayu doing Passion.

Other artists that would have to covers would include BoA, OLIVIA, Namie, Kuu, and Ai.
