glitter/fated.. Is this a bootleg?

I recently purchased what was described as the Japan version of the cd+dvd of glitter/fated on ebay. Everything on it says made in Japan, it has the Avex logo, etc. But I noticed that on the CD and DVD there is some red text around the holes, I can't read Japanese, so I don't know what it says, but I know from looking at pictures of other Japan versions online that they do not have this text.

So, could this be a bootleg? Or an overseas version? Or something? It seems pretty high quality for a bootleg. I'm just real confused about this text.

micster 10th May 2009 02:57 AM

The case seems real enough cos of the avex logo in the plastic but that red writing is rather perplexing

FIRSTKLAS 10th May 2009 03:03 AM

It's probably an evaluation/sample copy.

It's official, it's just not meant to be sold.

Maxker 10th May 2009 03:13 AM

wow. That's a ultra rare limited store promotion CD . Nice :D

sparkle glitter 10th May 2009 03:44 AM

I just noticed the Secret and GUILTY CD's I bought from them have this red text too. So, they're not bootlegs or anything? That's nice to know. That text really is ugly and annoying though. I really hate how they didn't say anything about this in the description. Also wtf - my Cyber Trance says "SAMPLE - LOANED" by the hole of the CD. I payed $20 for that thinking I was getting a good deal. **** ebay. Sorry..ranting here.

Delirium-Zer0 10th May 2009 04:23 AM

Yeah, they're not bootlegs at all. They're just promos, just as real & official as the real thing. They're actually quite collectible to some degree. Your Cyber Trance is also a promo. $20 was a very good deal for that.

JackieRos 10th May 2009 04:39 AM

it does look official

I'm guessing you bought them from either headynana (JAPANCD) or GSKOHOUSE? Most, if not all, of their auctions are sample CDs.

I really hate how they don't state that fact too. It's dishonest.

It's also upsetting since they are selling stuff they likely got for free (or for next to nothing) at near-retail prices. :grumpy

Edit: another seller of sample CDs is "spiderpage." Just to let everyone know.

visionfactory 10th May 2009 06:59 AM

I can read "...promotion..." and "...avex group..."

I like this kind of CD since they are quite rare and the mixes might be differents

ownsarai 10th May 2009 07:00 AM

Well, it's not really that disappointing when you consider that they are actually kind of rare. I would be happy to have one in my collection~

~angel*ayumi~ 10th May 2009 07:58 AM

Strange that they changed it to Japanese text. I have a Unite Simgle were they write "Sample on loan" in eglish.

chloeM 10th May 2009 09:26 AM

wow... niceone

rookies 10th May 2009 11:11 AM

I just learned that yesterday.I bought 3 Ai Otsuka singles from headynana and they are all promo samples...and I agree it's dishonest.I just wish that I've known this earlier.:o

And Sparkle_glitter, all of those 3 CDs of mine also have the same text around that hole.
Well people say we should be lucky because it's rare,so let's just be :)

Evolution7/4 10th May 2009 06:59 PM

It also could be a previous rental CD.

I know right?

Delirium-Zer0 11th May 2009 04:12 AM

Seriously.... in a few years, having a promo copy of an ayu cd is gonna be like "omg wow really?" I mean these are the versions of the CDs that circulate record companies & radio stations. People usually can't get them. It's kinda cool to have one. And it's not like a sampler promo where you're being deprived of the artwork & instrumental versions or anything. So I dunno why you guys are upset - I LOVE when I end up with samples & promos.

AyUta 11th May 2009 06:06 AM

Whoa, nice! Lucky you!

ALfromHELLSING 11th May 2009 07:14 AM

Of course...
1: I've bought super rare sample version of -put artist name here- album!!!
2: Awesome!! What is so special about this super rare version?
1: It has ugly red text around CD's holes!
2: Huh...?

No offensive. Just sarcasm.
WHATEVER, you can buy from him anytime. I will NEVER buy from him again.
Funny but already first purchase from eBay is teaching me a lesson. :P Double check every CD you're buying there and ask seller all the possible questions to be sure that you are buying what you want. :D

sparkle glitter 12th May 2009 02:15 AM

Thanks for the info, it's not that bad I suppose. I just don't like being lied to and misled to think what I'm buying is the official normal Japan version. At least they aren't bootlegs and are rare which makes them special. But this little loser got these for free and is charging money for them to pass off as the normal versions? I don't like that.

really dishonest...mostly coz he paid $20 for a sample!! if you ask me 5, 8 or, at least 10 $ it's understandable but twenty dollars for a free sample?? no comment

I'm 100% agreeing with you about everything you said here.

I seriously would trade those 3 singles I've bought from him for used normal -original,whatever- singles at any time! It's just so stupid. And I kind of doubt the quality of the CDs actually.

Oh and btw, when you play those CDs in your PC do you get the weird player which opens automatically and plays the songs on the single, which also says 128 kbps (which still might not mean anything, but still...).

I checked the CD on PC and it has this player installer actually ON the CD. Just to note that.

gothicayu 27th May 2009 09:21 AM

thats why i always say dont buy on ebay. its cheap for a reason. its either bootleg or promo or sample or rental cd .

i think that red print looks so dirty on the cd . it would bother be a lot if i had a huge tag like this all around the cd . you should leave that guy a negative feedback.
if i were you i would send him back the cd and ask for a refund since everything is not specify in the description.
promo cd are not for sale or resell ( that what they wrote on every cd) . its dishonest and illegal.

the only RARE promo cd are those white or black one send by avex (with write "in store on that date " )that have a limited press ; you should check enneaba .

the one that you have dont have any kind of value or resell value. the guy surely got it for free and is making tons of money reselling them under the name " japanese import cd " when its not really an actual release .

luna7996 27th May 2009 07:41 PM

^ Well ebay is not that bad if you know how to handle the sellers. Ask lots of question, request extra pictures and so on. I have gotten one or two good things out of ebay. However I do warn people to read everything carefully on ebay. When I bough there for the first time I bought some china ver. cds of Ayu thinking I was getting a good deal. The seller described the cds as an ''original asian version'' back then I didnt know it meant ''its from china but we wont tell you because otherwise u wont buy from us''. So I though it meant overseas and the price was great. Now I know better. Never have a fallen for another seller like that again.:yes

gothicayu 27th May 2009 08:07 PM

sometimes seller lies to you to sell his stuff . i know a seller that was sending picture of authentic japanese cds , and when you ask more info everything is correct , when you receive it its a chinese bootleg avoid this one : mapx2009

Picaflor 7/4 27th May 2009 08:17 PM

I wouldn't ***** if I were you. super rare, not mean to be sold anywhere sample cds? oh yeah thats definitely a problem >.>

~angel*ayumi~ 27th May 2009 09:28 PM

He isnīt pissed because he has gotten a promo CD, he is pissed because the seller didnīt wrote it in his auction.
After visiting the ebay shop I noticed that stickers with numbers on the back who identfys them as promo samples, but itīs written nowere in the discription, thatīs not nice.

But they're not "super rare" at all. :P

They're widely distributed to retail music stores in Japan for the purpose of promotion and given how many retail music stores there are in Japan...

Also, the fact that Avex has to serially number them and also presses them with specially marked discs shows that they're produced en masse.

Gothicayu is right when she says that the only promo CDs that are really rare are the ones distributed via acetate (CD-R) copies. Those ones are meant to be distributed within the industry only and are burned to CD-Rs because the amount that are distributed is low and doesn't merit a pressing.

ok so cd, and cdr, what's the difference? compact disk, compact disk-rom?

taskinillusion 28th May 2009 06:33 AM

^CD-rewritable. The disk can be re-used to burn more stuff onto it unless they "finish" it so you can't mess with the data.
