Ayu crowned "Best Pop Artist" in "Shojo Beat" magazine
 

A couple of months ago, I posted a thread (http://www.ahsforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=84766) announcing that Ayu was up for the title of "Best Pop Artist" in "Shojo Beat's" annual J-pop awards. Those of you in North America were allowed to vote and I know several of you did! The results for the contest are in June's issue which I received in the mail about a week or so ago. All of your voting must have helped because Ayu won by what I would consider to be a landslide!!!

Notice the other candidates' percentages? No even close to Ayu's! :laugh

My thoughts exactly! Well, of course she did. =P And look... where's utada on that charts? I know this poll probably isen't very representative for tha whole potential japanese musique consumers, but still if utada could sell a little ..

Or well...maybe it's just people who read that magazine...to which I'm surprised Koda was even listed...and that Utada wasn't at all.

You do realize that you're wrong, right? You couldn't vote more than once just by "hitting the refresh button." You had to enter your personal information (name, address, etc) in order to vote because they did a special drawing for prizes along with the voting. So you couldn't just go back and vote a million times because you had to have an actual name and real address in order to enter to vote. So it's not like she won because we all CHEATED. :trolleyes

I did think it was weird that she wasn't included in the voting. But the same issue ran an interview they did with Utada. Visit Utada's thread to see it. I posted it there.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, we've heard that already. It doesn't necessarily mean they've heard of Ayu though. I was reading manga for years before I ever even heard of Ayu.

I can't believe Olivia got 17%. She's virtually unknown in Japan for anything other than for NANA but I guess she has plenty of fans in the US.

^there was actually a discussion about japanese artists popular in the US instead of Japan at another forum I'm at.

The other big person was Miyavi. Apparently he's a nobody in Japan...or he's way more popular here than there.
