is it easily accessible to find JPop stuff in where you live ?

for me I'm quite lucky in the sense that JPop's relatively big in S'pore even though chinese & english pop more or less dominate here .

There's a big HMV located in the downtown of my country where they stock up on the latest jpop items for sales & they even have 1/2 of the 3rd level dedicated to Asian Pop (there're 3 levels in HMV Heeren itself & I'm always forever calling HMV every week LOL) & there're also 2 Kinokuniya bookshops located in S'pore too .

The downsides of issues is that HMV's not allowed to import DVDs pertaining to singles/albums/concert dvds from Japan due to the censorship board & the region code differences & it's downright impossible to find a more extensive list of jpop items sold in heartlands CD shops (like there's no way I can find a KAT-TUN single/album in CDRama at all) but I suppose there's always an up & down side in every single issue .

NintendoHTF1242 17th May 2009 05:46 AM

Nope, I live in the USA. So I have to buy everything online. I do wish there was a store where I can just walk in and buy things though.

pommy48 17th May 2009 05:47 AM

not at all, i never even seen a place where they sell asian cds

Fair Wind 17th May 2009 06:12 AM

^lol.

No, not where I live in Canada. But once I move back to Taiwan next year, Jpop is found everywhere. I can usually find imports although they are so expensive.

brand new love 17th May 2009 06:14 AM

no. i have never seen anything remotely related to j-pop in stores.

tho a while ago i was looking up random stuff on walmart.com and it say they had one of KAT-TUN's albums in stock.. the next time i went to walmart i secretly searched for it but it wasn't there of course :irked

Miltonic 17th May 2009 06:17 AM

Nope, everything online for me too and if there is some place close I have no idea where it would be lol

ll moments ll 17th May 2009 06:24 AM

Wal-Mart sells KAT-TUN? o_O

---

but yeah! there are places to find J-pop in my area. if you live in Orange County, Caifornia, there is a Mitsuwa Marketplace in Costa Mesa with Books Sanseido inside. it's where i get my magazines & i get music there sometimes too. there's also a Kinokuniya & Book-Off (this is the jackpot, SERIOUSLY) around that area also.

i have to drive about 20 minutes though. however, i try to go when i'm at school since it's like 5-7 minutes from University. :)

love in music 17th May 2009 06:48 AM

no way! nothing is ever here!

Polyrhythm 17th May 2009 06:55 AM

Well...the closest thing Ive got to authentic Jpop CD's is a Lifeplaza in Arcadia CA that sells Taiwan Press Jpop CDs...and very limited selection. Theres like 2 bookoff stores and a kinokuniya but I havent gone to them yet (no car) x_x

^ :laugh

University of California, Irvine or better known as UCI.

Mr. Goto 17th May 2009 07:53 AM

sort of. in a town called Markham that's like 30min from my house there are a bunch of stores called "Broadcast" that has j-pop for sale. For people living in the area Pasific Mall has one ;)

90% of it is the overseas press though. i haven't really found any other places, i need to go hunting in the city one day.

LacusClyne 17th May 2009 09:08 AM

like karen, i'm in singapore so it's very easy to find jpop cds here.

you can find jpop in almost every cd store, but if you want more, it's hmv, though their price aren't cheap and they only have the cd only version(japan press). If i order online, i'll still save at least SGD$5 to SGD$10 per cd, so i'll only buy fom here, if i can't find it online.

chloeM 17th May 2009 10:26 AM

yeah... but they release them a month later~

prussian blue 17th May 2009 12:47 PM

^i know! :weep

in here, you can get J-pop CD, the famous one, like ayu, koda, namie (<-i doubt this), and tohoshinki, they are like the god here, every girl trying to buy their single and album

the price is much cheaper than singapore, while the quality is quite the same

aloopy 17th May 2009 12:49 PM

:no not at all. i buy all my stuff online *sigh* :weep

everlastingRAINBOW 17th May 2009 02:13 PM

Yes! I have a computer in my room and I use CD Japan :yes

jiarongisme 17th May 2009 02:36 PM

XD That makes so much sense.

~Inori~ 17th May 2009 05:14 PM

Yep. All I have to do is hop on the 2 train and go to Manhattan. There's a Kinokuniya book store there. They have all the latest J-Pop stuff in CD and CD+DVD format. That's where I'm going to buy DREAM CD+DVD.

AyUta 18th May 2009 09:26 AM

No karen, it's really hard to find stuff here :weep You just have your local Kinokuniya store....but on Saratoga, which is far lol.

Huaka 18th May 2009 10:31 AM

Yep. There's lots of places I can buy Japanese/Korean music. It probably helps that I live in a very Asian-dominated place.

ayumisrael 18th May 2009 10:53 AM

There isn't a single jpop CD in my country, at least not in stores (just people who purchased from CDJapan/yesasia have jpop CDs here I suppose). xD

Princess_Of_Roses 18th May 2009 10:57 AM

No... I live in a small town In Arkansas...I was very lucky to find even BoAs album...I can Hikkis becuase walmart sells them...Wel I also found a L'arc en ciel album and the dir en grey but those were all american release and I was the only one who knew about them here so no one else to buy them....

But i will never find any of those cds...for that there is Cdjapan!

keikeiaznqueen 18th May 2009 11:25 AM

Hehe, yep, this is Hong Kong. :D We have Mong Kok.

JackieRos 19th May 2009 01:03 AM

yes but if you want to buy bootlegs :weep

fantasma3c 19th May 2009 01:08 AM

Nope not in thomasville, NC the place you never ever heard of
:raincloud

minna 19th May 2009 04:33 AM

I only saw Utada's cds (japan releases) and that's because she is releasing in USA & Canada

other than that...I never found jpop stuff :weep

tommy96814 20th May 2009 07:48 PM

aqua_crystal 20th May 2009 07:51 PM

Yooku 20th May 2009 09:05 PM

noidea 20th May 2009 09:12 PM

the next japan store is small and 200km away...and i dont even know if they sell cds xD(might be games and manga only or something)

mtora83 20th May 2009 09:42 PM

hmm... where I live, there is a Kinnokuniya and a Mitsuuwa. Also, in a mall around where I live, there is a store that sells lots of Miya Records CD. I used to buy those CDs till I found out they were bootlegs.

Ayumi27 21st May 2009 03:18 AM

100% sure there's not a single store that sells j-pop stuff in my country!

RikkuChii 24th May 2009 12:24 AM

Not really. I have to drive a half hour to get to San Francisco, which is the only place that I know of that sells J-Pop.

..and it's expensive. Very expensive.

labello 25th May 2009 11:06 PM

Where I live only few like 3 or 4 CDs are selled.
Only An Cafe, Wakeshima Kanon, Mucc and one Asian Kung-Fu Generation Cd (which i got :D) and they are a bit expensive.

i splurge like heck! :laugh

japantown is about 10-15 min by bus for me, and they have some jpop stuff in chinatown xD

maybe i should start ordering on the internet...:innocent

rookies 26th May 2009 10:34 AM

There used to be a shop that sold mostly overseas versions of J-pop CD's, and I went there for like a year or so to get my CD's, but I didn't visit that shop frequently, maybe once a month or so.

They had a large selection of avex cd's, cus avex does make overseas versions for a lot of their artists / groups' cd's. And they have overseas versions for non-avex artist as well, like Utada Hikaru, YUI, Mika Nakashima, Yuna Ito, etc.

But then it closed down, so I had no choice but to buy online.

Oh well, I enjoyed browsing through that shop though. It was the best place.

I usually go for OS versions because it is highly affordable and cheap, so that store was just perfect for me, lol.

AyumiBest 26th May 2009 01:46 PM

Nope! This is why I go to HK and have a shopping spree. XD (or I can order online but my parents don't trust me with credit cards. Its all because of that night)

TITANIC 26th May 2009 03:20 PM

now is very easy. it's very close to me because my apartment is next to chinatown where jpop cds sold

ville 26th May 2009 04:07 PM

yep, one store sells. but i don't buy those.
they are always overseas or korean versions and the cost like 30 € :/
i like to buy jolin CD's here because they cost like 20 - 25 € and they're taiwanese versions or something :yes

peppermango 26th May 2009 06:03 PM

Lol there just that one, stupid & overprized jpop-store. I think they got a big money of it, because so many fans don't know or can't order in net and it's only choice to get jpop here. I always get a heart attack when I go that store XD and it's so pink................... but ok, I have bought many cd's there so I should be shut up, blergh. But when it's about j-rock, I think every store sells those.

// oh I forgot a online store, who sells everything but almost everything is over 100 euros wtf ! I don't even wanna know what the heck they are doing.

Hachimitsu 26th May 2009 06:41 PM

Nope, I import all my Jpop goods. It's almost impossible to find anything here!

stickyrice 26th May 2009 09:32 PM

Yea there's a store here that sells J-Pop and gets a new shipment like... every week but it's still pretty expensive so I just order online. Plus I'm able to get the free stuff when I'm ordering online lol

murasakinohana 28th May 2009 05:06 AM

for us Singaporeans, we're lucky in the sense that we have our neighbourhood cd-stores such as CD-RAMA, MUSIC JUNCTION, SEMBAWANG and for more variety, we can always go to HMV CITYLINK & HMV HEEREN. :yes

PoetGirl 28th May 2009 05:41 AM

NO! NOT AT ALL! like there is not even big choice of american artists!!!!!! my place sucks. all you can buy is like.. britney cd???

yeah.

thank god for internet.

Delirium-Zer0 28th May 2009 05:57 AM

There's an anime store here in ABQ that sells bootlegs, but there's no way to get anything genuine here unless I order online.

I anxiously await my trip to LA for anime expo so I can go to Book-Off and Kinokuniya and go shopping. ^__^!!

taskinillusion 28th May 2009 07:46 AM

Oh there is noooo where in my whole state I'm sure that sells J-pop. The internet is definitely my BFF! :heart

PinkShinigami 28th May 2009 08:04 AM

NO!

There isn't a single shop that sells j-pop CDs here, and if someone sell secondhand, it's always Miyavi, An Cafe and so on. Female pop, as ayu, BoA, OLIVIA etc. aren't -unfortunately- popular for the J-fans in Denmark.
But I guess it's still cheaper to buy it second hand from the net, as the CDs is imported already.

BUT BUT, you can buy some J-pop items at a Scandinavian site cdon.com, but it is like.. $200 for an album!

So to buy CDs, I always have to buy it online >.<

AyuRox 4th June 2009 05:10 AM

I was waiting to fibnd a thread like this (sorta...). I apologize in advance for pouring my complaints on you...

OMG! NO! I live in the US, so absolutely not! The onlly place that it was easy to get J-pop from was iTunes. But then iTunes deleted EVERYTHING on avex. I hate iTunes now. :eviltongu :gnash

[edit] They got it back. ok. I'm all sunshine and smiles again. :D (though, omly about iTunes, mind you...)

Other than iTunes, Its impossible to get anything domestically. Not a single Music store has J-pop. When you ask the staff questions like "Do you have Ayumi Hamasaki?" they're like "...... I can look it up for you, if you'd like". So basically, they have no idea what I just said. The only way to get CDs and the like is by buying online from YesAsia, eBay, and those kinds of sites. So you end up rediculously overpaying for things. ($30 for a J-pop album from YA as opposed to $15 to buy a domestic product from a store)

The internet is the only time you'll ever even hear something pertinent to J-pop. Its virtually unkown, at least to the general public.

nemesisyume 4th June 2009 07:10 PM

well here's a store that sells some asian CDs :D
not much tho
bought ayus RAINBOW, I am..., glitter/fated and MY STORY from there
also some kuu singles.

tomiko8 8th June 2009 04:55 AM

Well I live in NJ and there is a Mitsuwa Market Place 25min away from me. They sometimes have CD's on sale for less than $10. I sometimes travel to the Kinokuniya bookstore in NY, it's only a 23min ride thank God, but they never have what I want due to the fact that most of their selections are sold out and their prices are horrendous! CD Japan, YesAsia, and Amazon are my go to websites. I recently purchased some of Koda Kumi's singles on Amazon for $5.00 all legit avex JP releases, and they were never used!

So yeah, the internet owns.

Raiu-Ayu 8th June 2009 07:23 AM

The only thing that is romotely jpop and sold here are original anime and video game soundtracks and they are only available in an anime store here

mcluva420 11th June 2009 07:13 AM

OMG i just found out that there's some j-pop stuff in the public library in my city :D
yay~!

RikkuChii 11th June 2009 07:51 AM

^LUCKY!

asmAyumi1992 11th June 2009 08:30 AM

CDs and DVDs of Jpop stuff I think almost all CD store sell it. But the goodies, I think never had at any place in where I live.

a_kingdom21 13th June 2009 05:57 AM

in ma country cd store only sell famous j-pop star such as ayu, hikki, boa, namie,l'arc~en~ciel, kuu, mika,,,,,,
but they're indonesian ver....which is cheaper than os ver...........in medium quality.......

n what make i'm very happy is around 2004 MY STORY was put on list of best selling cd......i never saw it b4..........it was on bulletin music store in semarang indonesia....

Namie♡TOP SECRET 13th June 2009 09:26 PM

In UK, all people care about are Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift etc.

If U sing J-Pop, K-Pop or C-Pop, people think ur weird.

(Luckily 4 me, one of my friends likes Hikki, so we can sing 2gether. LOL)

rakeru 14th June 2009 07:26 AM

we have an exploding Asian population in my area, so there are a few stores that sell the basics, like the really big artists. there's always some Ayu sprinkled in, thankfully, even though i've busted a few stores for piracy.

Polyrhythm 14th June 2009 07:53 PM

My community is 60% asian. I'm asian too @_@

Hazard 15th June 2009 05:39 AM

I live in the US so all of my stuff is bought online. There is one retailer the specializes in anime near me and they occasionally carry the very recent/popular Japanese CDs, but they're waaaay overpriced.

oneheart 15th June 2009 07:17 PM

Well for me, I have to really dig deep into Chinatown, then I found this little joint that sold all of Ayu's albums and I was like HEHEHE!
So I bought GUILTY CD+DVD first press there for 20 bucks, and I hope they get more stuff, cause they're easy to bargain with!

tomiko8 18th June 2009 03:22 AM

A friend of mine just informed me that there were a few Koreatowns near me and they sell Asian albums for good prices. I think I'm going to go check them out in the near future.

chloeM 18th June 2009 04:05 AM

not now... i am living in the countryside~

Teppei-chan 18th June 2009 11:46 PM

No. I must order my stuff from online shops because in my near aren't any shop for JPop stuff.

~.:*:.YaSuMi.:*:.~ 22nd June 2009 10:43 PM

no :(

i just have 3 friend to whom i share music but only mp3...

Lady~Deviance 24th June 2009 09:14 PM

Well I actually live near a Mitsuwa Marketplace, a few K-towns, and a Kinokuniya Bookstore. They sell Asian CD's of course but I never had the pleasure of purchasing from them because of their steep pricing. I use to buy some from the flagship Virgin Records store in NY, but they have gone out of business. I mostly buy my CD's online now.

carcar♥ 29th June 2009 02:46 AM

Nope, only place I get mine is from online. Where I am at, people don't even know of jpop really.
