Probly she begins to think (or has already thought) that she doesn't need creative covers anymore. OR, maybe she's taking a tolerance test.. to see how long she can stand the annoyance of that guy... :P If that's the case I must say she will get the A+ for the test...

I think it could be that her face looks a bit distorted with these small images so I really am quite curious to see HQ images!

Re-read my post.~ I said it was fine if you didn't like the covers. But I find it absolutely ridiculous to think that these are by far the worst of her career. Isn't that exaggerating a bit..? (Seriously, STEP you...? Yeah...) Of course she's done far better covers countless times before, but these aren't her worst by any means.
I'm not saying you have to like every single thing she does in order to be a fan. That would be silly. But to start not only bashing the covers, and then not just the fans who like the covers, but then Ayu herself..? Calling her senseless? That she's ridiculous and practically moronic for letting these covers go through? These are HER covers. For whatever reasons, she liked them enough to share them with her fans. And obviously not every fan hates them. So she couldn't have made a completely wrong choice.

Excuse me, but I think you need to go look up "biased" in the dictionary, because there isn't a single statement in my post that makes me biased... But aside from that nonsense...
I was speaking to the people who like the song(s) on the single, who wanted to support Ayu and were determined to buy the single, but then decided completely against ever buying it, simply because of the covers. Yes. That it flat out stupid. Sure, a big part of the singles is the covers, but it's certainly not all. The main part is, obviously, the songs, right? And I don't know about you, but the main reason I buy anything from an artist, album or single or whatever, is to support them. Because that's what a fan is, duh. So if you like the artist and the song on the single/album, yet you refuse to buy it and support them merely because you don't like the freakin' cover, then no, you aren't a true fan. I know if I were an artist and found out that my "fans" refused to buy any of my work simply because I didn't make perfect covers, I would be extremely irritated.

Ah, thanks. As I said, it was just a translation I did while listening to the lyrics. There are some parts I don't think I could express well in English, especially in the first stanza. Because she uses a lot of relative clauses, some of which English will not accept (it's a syntax problem). I was thinking of ways to split them up into different phrases. We'll see how Masa interprets them.

A more literal translation of the first stanza looks like this:

無邪気に笑う僕の大好きなその笑顔についさっきまで　涙が君の頬で光っていた事を知っているよ
ありのままを見せてとかなんて簡単に言わないけど　こんな君を見ちゃっても受け止めて行ける自 信があるし

Smiles innocently, That smile I love, until a just a moment ago, Tears glistened on your cheeks, I know
Show your real self, such things, I won't easily say it but, Even seeing this side of you, I am confident I can accept it

As you can see, she has described the person's smile using several relative clauses and a complementizer clause. So I tried to present it more naturally in English. English will not easily allow several relative clauses on the same noun as Japanese does. But I will redo this translation and post a better one later on.

Also, I took quite a liberty during some of it, especially when I wrote "my dear" on one of the lines. She says in Japanese, "なんだもん", which doesn't translate as anything particularly. It is an ending for emphasis, kind of giving her view of the reason for why "we aren't perfect." It sounds really cute and like she's speaking to someone directly. Like "Hey--you know we're not perfect. It's that we're human, you know?!" So I put "my dear" to convey that kind of 'cute' stance she has there. But I may change it if I redo this translation. It's a delicate balance between making it natural and trying to keep the original nuances.

When I was studying translation more, I always said that we should translate as directly as possible, but I don't know if I believe that any longer. It's better to try to capture the feeling of the original but kind of 'import' it into the target language. In this case, English. That's my feeling now. Anyway, thank you for looking at my poor translation. ^^*

I hope that people who didn't know how they felt about this song at the beginning will take another listen and glance over this interpretation to see what kinds of things Ayu is singing. I think it's a very hopeful song. It's the kind of song that she sings that gives me 'genki' to keep going and believing in love and humanity. Because we're not perfect and we can't be natural all the time. But we just keep going because that's what makes us lovable. I really think so. I think she communicates it very well!

I completely agree. I love the lyrics and how sweet they are! Despite our humanity, we still push on and have happy times with one another. It's very nice how she put it all! I believe these were written by her on a plane? Or maybe I'm thinking of some other lyrics like NEXT LEVEL. But regardless of that, the message that she conveys is rather 'warm' and fits the ~LOVE is ALL~ subtitle perfectly.

I'm just wondering - is there any artists who will release any singles and/or albums on the same day Ayu's single release? And is there any artist that could be a threat to Ayu among single releases?

First of all to the people complaining about the GREEN PV Shut Up!! If you had ANY taste you could appreciate such modern interpretation of classic iconic stage and dance work from the 30's/40's.

i do agree that the GREEN PV is visually stunning, though. the only thing that bothers me is the out of sync dancing. i know she's not a dancer but they could've practiced a bit more.

do her singles contain booklets with pictures or is it usually all lyrics? there might be some prettier pictures inside.

The more I look at the covers, the more the "sea" in the cover looks like a blue blanket laid out behind Ayu LMAO

I don't like the covers...I think they could have done a better job with it. It looks like they photoshopped her into a background with flowers in it. Maybe bigger covers would do it more justice but she looks kind of out of place to me.

Seeing the covers doesn't change my opinion on the song. How could a picture change your opinion? It doesn't change the lyrics, change the beat, change Ayu's voice... a video might help you appreciate the song, maybe understand it better, but the cover... you can change it on your iPod, and if you buy the physical copy, you can switch out the cover if you desire.

I want to support Ayu all that I can, so I will be buying this single. At first, I didn't like the covers so much, but I've accepted that these ARE the covers, and there's nothing I can do to change it. I have started to grow on them, though. They certainly aren't my favorite covers, but they aren't the *****iest or plainest covers.

i think this is just a case of people who think not buying it is making a statement. it's not. you obviously only like ayu for her image if you're only buying her things for the covers. lyrics, musical arrangement--those are things to not buy things over.

and as a side note: if you saw a cd with an AMAZING COVER, but the song was sucky, would you buy it? If it had an amazing cover but you have no idea what the song sounds like/who the artist is, would you buy it?

I never cancelled an album because of the cover.. but I did buy a cd with an amazing cover.. lol --> RAINBOW. Really, now I kinda like the album, but back then I bought the album simply because ayu looked stunning on the cover. Ahh you do bring back my old memory :).

I'm sure if the pvs are good and sunset is good people will change their minds once again and decide to buy the single (pffft)

Well, I think I speak for any Ayu-fan affected by the new worldwide recession by saying:

If I'm gonna spend more than 20 bucks on something it sure as hell better look like it's worth EXACTLY what I paid for it. But I guess *wealthier* Ayu fans who get to pre-order whatever the hell they want don't understand the value of middle-class money these days.

With that being said, why buy something you don't like? If you don't like the first track off the single (leaving only TWO other songs, one of which is a MASHUP) and the cover looks like crap to you, why would a person even waste their money on it. Or rather, why should a person waste their money on it?

People say oh, you shouldn't cancel your preorders just because the cover doesn't look good to you, but you know what---You aren't them and they aren't you.

People have a mind of their own---they can do whatever the hell they want. If somebody wants to buy the new Ayu single and throw it straight into their fireplace because they think it's a piece of ****---guess what? It is theirs to DESTROY! The same goes for the collector who's just buying it to add to their collection of Ayu-merchendise. They'll treasure it as if it were Evolution ~part II~ anyway. It is theirs to TREASURE. If someone else wants to cancel their preorder because they don't want to do that overdramatic BS, guess what? It's their money to SAVE on something else they might want.

I agree with Aisha Angel a bit. Japanese CDs are really expensive for me...I would be extremely turned off if the product was sub-par...which imo it is...but that's just my opinion.

At the end of the day, the money is a huge factor. If someone doesn't like an aspect of a product, and they choose to not buy it, it doesn't mean that they have weak decision making skills. Especially now when lots of people simply don't have 30 dollars to spend on a CD when the money from it could be put towards something more important like a bill or food. It's their money and they will do what they want with it. I certainly wouldn't go and spend money on something if it didn't meet my expectations, just to satisfy the manufacturer or artist.

Lucky for me, my birthday is next week, and as a present, my friend is preordering the CD for me so I can get it once we get back to college. Also, I happen to like the covers and song, so that's a plus lol.

i guess most ppl in AHS probably thinking of buying Japan version, but because it's very expensive... 2x more expensive from the OS version, so i guess covers are really matter to them...including me on this case.. but once they (and me) saw the covers, it's totally a disappointment... most of my friends who also thinking of buying Japan version have cancelled theirs too..and switching to buy the OS version one.. we also want to support Ayu at Oricon charts, but still... covers like that... =_____= *Sorry Ayu*

I don't buy singles.. I collect only her album, books and concerts DVDs. I was actually planning to buy the OS version since well it's shot in Bali, but since the cover is quite a disappointment to me and the PV's not shot in Bali, I'm thinking of not buying it. I just think that I prefer to spend this money for sumthing on my priority list.

Actually I bought some singles like Starting/Born to be, Blue Bird, Never Ever and Endless Sorrow, simply because I love their cover

so I am the type of person who'll cancel the order because of the cover.. and I'm also the person who'll buy a CD basing only on beautiful/unique covers (even if I don't know a bit about the artist.. this actually 'introduce' me many great music eg. Hirai Ken, Sade Adu, Bliss, Faye Wong, Chris Yu, etc.. but this only happened back then when I was a student w/ extra pocket money..)

Being an Ayu's fan doesn't mean we have to 'eat up' exactly everything she/Avex is trying to feed us right? we have the option, not buying one of her single or album doesn't mean we no longer love her.. it's actually can give her some picture whether her fan-base love her works or not, what she could improve in order to be a better artist, etc..

thanks, finally somebody with peaceful opinion, which is IMO right as well, the single might have been dlightly over the line of "purchasing" and if something thats expected to be good turns out to be bad, it might fall under that line, we all know already that we probably can't expect anything from the PVs ... so the only hope for the people liking neither Sunrise nor the covers is sunset and even if that turns out to be good, it IMO isnt worth buying

I'm not buying it because I will get songs on album, PVs on Album's dvd and only reason for me to buy that was actually how it looks, it's appearance which is going to be awful

Emiko is right. Japanese singles are so expensive. I have only bought one Ayumi Hamasaki single and that was Days/GREEN. :P It was perfect in every aspect. The whole single has to be perfect in order to persuade me to buy it.

It's actually kinda odd! I'm the one having long rants about stuff but actually I'm being more chill about whats being said then the people reading it! Also (and this is only directed at SOME of you). Opinions (such that they are) are ALWAYS subjective and if its my OPINION to be right in the case of the GREEN PV *for example* I'm not shoving it down your throats! What I AM doing is giving BETTER arguments to substantiate said opinions (this is fact) and therefore you *think* I force/shove my opinions unto you! aka *down your throat*
So I'll reiterate and say I really never rant but I'm passionate about these two subjects in particular! and so I'm gonna say what I say just as you do! And I'm not going to change or rant differently because honestly I don't do it enough to
A. Warrant a change or

whatever. i'm totally guilty of not buying singles/albums bc i didn't like their covers. with her last covers i think it was cool because she had like 3-4 versions with different covers, more of a chance for there to be one someone liked. (honestly i'm so glad there were 3 versions of R/S as i only loved one of the covers) but i admit it's stupid to buy something just for the cover, even though i do it sometimes. it's peoples money.. they can do whatever. personally i'm buying the CD+DVD because i like the cover more, and it'll have the PV's and songs.. i'm getting the best of both worlds, like our good friend hannah montana. i just like whatever i buy to be worth it in all aspects :yes
