If we start thinking about sales, even Madonna, the Queen of Pop has some really low sales for some of her albums.

If I don't bad remember, a few years ago one of her studio albums was so bad with sales that people called it "fail" etc. But she still producing some great music after all :) and she still the queen of pop!

So for ayu, in some ways is the same situation ^^ she still the queen of jpop no matter how bad this album is selling/sold.

Ah when I said sales are dropping, I didn't mean it was a huge drop...I just meant that I think it'll end pretty soon. :P

it's a bit unfortunate that by next week , NEXT LEVEL will be overtaken by Fukuyama Masaharu's Zankyou album (an ace album :heart & I haven't receive it yet alongside with my ON / OFF album T_T)

NEXT LEVEL is awesome.
It deserved to beat Guilty. Guilty felt, to me, like a really bad "best of ayu-rock" album because it was very piecemeal together. Next Level had an AMAZING intro instrumental (I ADORE Bridge to the Sky) and flowed very well, while guilty was much too sporadic.
I'm very glad for Ayu, and hope the album charts for at LEAST 20 weeks!

charting life is good..but total sales is pretty bad, i don't think it can even surpass Secret's first week sales of 386,280 copies..but NEXT LEVEL came out during the worst time of the economic crisis and cd sales are still declining, that's a bad combo..T___T

Well ayu's NEXT LEVEL first day was 99,000 but I'm sure kobukuro will have smaller drops and more longtivity. =\

Yeah ^, I mean, their greatest hits compilation is STILL charting, after like three years. I know this may sound defeatist...but Ayu is gonna have to kiss her top 10 spot goodbye. Unless she manages to chart for a VERY long time and push her sales up or something, but a new album era is beginning with the release of Sunrise/Sunset ~LOVE IS ALL~
So I'm beginning to lose hope.
Am I the only one who feels that way?

Well there might not be solo female artists on the top 10 yearly albums of oricon at all by the end of the year, which shows the general power female artists have at this period.
Even if kuu's album will end up on 9 or 10 (though I don't think it will manage it), just 1 female on the top 10 (actually on 10) and with such sales it still shows how female solo artists in Japan are recieved in this period.
If namie or hikki would release albums then they most likely would end up on top 10 but just 2 females would be still sad.
The Majority of the top 10 are bands (almost all of them male bands) or by males generally.
On the top 10 singles there's just 1 female artist at the moment and she's an enka singer which is good for her, but again it's just 1 and not any of the divas or other new commer female artists (or older).
ayaka will most likely be also in the top 10 but it's because she is releasing a best album, and will go on hiatus. Unless if there are special things going on the great sales aren't really going for solo female singers, at least this year.

Including this there are only 4 albums this year that sold over 500,000 by far and just 1 million seller (not by shipped copies).
There are going to be 2 more albums that sell over 500,000 but they are bests (ayaka's and arashi's) so bests will dominate the top 5. The things don't look good in general and things don't look good for female artists.

Also it seems like avex (or probably ayu herself doesn't want it) stopped shoving ayu to the public as it appears. Nothing like even 2 or 3 years ago.

I don't mind if she doesn't get top ten actually. NEXT LEVEL is still #1 on my top ten list ^-^b

As long as this gets #15 yearly or higher (Like GUILTY) its O-KAY.

agreed, i don't care if it gets top 10. the list just demonstrates what is true of every music industry; mindless commercial material will always reign, numbers-wise.

I'm not sure how big a threat's for ayaka's new best album especially since there's no much incentive to get her best album (to me)

especially for the 2nd disc which the songs will be chosen by fans & I have a feeling a lot of them will come from her 1st 2 albums @_@

The rest probably will be from the B-sides of her singles but we'll see about that

i think arashi could be a big threat..they already sold out on all the first press editions already on cdjapan, yesasia..but i guess we have to wait until it comes out and see how much it sells then..

It has many big hits and she's going on hiatus after the release...of course there is incentive!

GUILTY chart for 17 week and SECRET for 18 week so NEXT LEVEL did better than both ^__^^

10th anniversaries always give extras.

both are big threat for ayu.. Ayaka's 1st album sold 1,2 million and 2nd album 620K. her best album probably hit 1 million....
about arashi I have no idea because most of JE album dont sell as well as single eventhough it is Best album

^ I feel apprehensive about ayaka's best album reaching 1 million. Only reason for one to buy it is probably because she's going on a hiatus or for people to perhaps try her music.

Considering that ayaka easily attracts casual listeners, I'd say she has good chances of reaching 1 million and her charting power when it comes to albums is amazing.

As for arashi, well I'd say they will sell over 1 million, but it's hard to be sure, I guess All the BEST will show how popular they are in fact. The fact that their previous compilations sold less than some of their studio albums tells a lot. But we'll see.

as for the extras , you get a 3rd disc called ARASHI's Selection if you were to buy the limited edition

I can't comment so much about that because this will be the 1st time for me to see the chart action/sales of a Johnny's best album

even I myself have no idea what the last Johnny's best album ie. KinKi Kids's 39 album , fared

I do know that 39 went to #1 but in terms of sales , I really have no idea

yeah but for ARASHI's case , it's notoriously known that when comes to albums , Johnny's bands doesn't really tend to do insane amount of promo as compared to singles

it always has been the norm & somemore they're busy preparing for their upcoming 10th anniversary tour too

but oh well I just hope NEXT LEVEL will not be that badly affected even though I have a feeling it's a yes T_T

The 19th week position was #167, it went up from the 18th week that was #199. XD

Glad to see this album still selling. When it came out, I didn't like it, but now I actually think this is buy-worthy because the songs are great to listen in the car.

I personally really like NL, so the fact that it's charting fairly well makes me really happy! I'm not sure about it staying in the top 10 up until the New Year (though that would be awesome!) because of the other releases people are talking about.

Do the sales include HK versions? Or just the Japan ones? I don't really understand how this works, so I'm just happy when people say it's good and the numbers look high, lol.

as far as I know , sales in the Oricon thread are only counted within Japan & if you were to buy from CDJapan , HMV Japan & Amazon Japan

O.O; So that means that these CDs are selling A LOT more than what it appears here... Actually, I'd kind of like to find out the real number if that's the case. You know, adding in the different sides (A, B, C, etc) plus the different versions (Overseas, Japan, etc).

Is there any way to find that information? Find out how much YesAsia and other places are selling and all that? Not that it'd make any difference to the Oricon. I'm just curious as to how much NL is actually selling.

Well, Wikipedia says that it sold 1,5 million over Asia... But they don't have any reference to this number... So, IMO it's not impossible, but it's not trustable either
