Ayu's singles (How would you like her next single?)
 

What does everyone think of the format that ayu's singles come in?
Any aspect of it...the different versions, covers, tracklistings, etc.

I'm just curious. I really miss the old way they were released (One format (CD), about 10 tracks, only 1 A-side.)

I suppose a CD+DVD format is welcomed too, but if that's the case, they should include something on the DVD that WON'T be on the inevitable album DVD, to give consumers more incentive to purchase it. (I swear I should manage ayu, not some retard at avex).

For the next single, I wish it would follow the old pattern. Something like

*Heartwrenching power BALLAD LIKE Dearest*

1- original mix

4- remix
5- remix of Sunrise or Sunset
6- remix
7- remix
8- another remix of Sunrise or Sunset
9- acoustic version instrumental

One or two formats at most...but if there is a DVD with the making, don't include the making on the album. sighhhh.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like if they just promoted the one song very heavily and gave it lots of tie-ins, it would sell just as well as other singles if they put extra tracks like remixes on there.

What do you guys think?

She kind of did the format you want in Rule/Sparkle, don't you think? It was a double a-side, but it was full of remixes.

I don't think having a million remixes in a single would really do much of an impact, only the big fans appreciate them. A casual person won't be like "Oh I'll buy it because it has the exact same song remixed 10 times."

If Ayu released in just CD-only format her sales would tank, it's just not the way things are done anymore. The reason her old singles were the way they were is because that's how things were done in 1999-2001. They're not done that way anymore, so it'd be really stupid to go back to doing them that way.

As for me, I'd want something like this:

Fresh Song
Fresh Song 2
Fresh B-side not on an album
Instrumentals of the two a-sides.

That's all a SINGLE needs. You're not buying an album, singles don't need to be more then five or six tracks maximum, idealy, they're ONE track, that's why they're SINGLES.

I just want a super catchy pop song, that's strong and sexy, kind of like Sparkle or Startin', less faux hardcore rock... though I think electric guitar laced pop is good. Or maybe electronic mixed with string instrumentals, again kind of like Sparkle.

I also like the idea of trance, something like Whatever or Connected. Those songs are beautiful.

I also want a beautiful cover... have not seen one in such a long time... just a very sophisticated shot of her face, a flattering image. And possibly a full photobook (like "off my day" or the Guilty photobook)? I don't think she's ever attached a full photobook for a single right? Don't know if that's economical but I love her photobooks, I feel that's a huge plus in buying a cd instead of downloading online, the tangible photobook.

The B-side will only be on the single, which is why the B-side making of is only included. Ayu should release a nice and simple single like that.

i need more remix in each single. a typical older ayu single is really good, if the remixes have more variety and listen-able

like trance mix, some-famous-DJ remix (yasutaka nakata :lech) or even more acoustiv version of A-side

In my opinion any more than 2 remixes and that's bad...look what happened with Rule/Sparkle. The GREEN and Days were awesome, but the Rule ones SUCKED.

honestly, i've sorta given up on daydreaming about her next singles. also b/c i'm so stressed out lately with other stuff that i'm just goin with the flow with her and not expecting much but good enough music.

that's not good, i know... but i'm still devoted by listening to her always and listening for her new releases. but i'm predicting something dark yet hip hop-ish. i dunno why. i just have that premonition, lol.

I don't care as long as it has more than 2 remixes. preferably 6 or 7 or more. How come the remixes stopped after Duty? After that, her singles had one, maaaybe 2, if we were lucky, remixes on them. Ideally, (for me) it'd look like this:

(more upbeat, preferably, but I have the feeling its gonna be a ballad b/c she hasn't had a single a-side ballad single since Together When.... But if she follows the same pattern that's surfaced in the past 2 years, it'll be a double a-side, one ballad one upbeat)

I did. Well, except for Rule (Remo-con Tech-Dance Remix), which was murder on my ears. But 4 isn't that many. there's 6 if you include all of them. (I'm not sure which you were counting. I assume that you weren't including the acoustic versions) 2 of Rule, 2 of GREEN, 2 of Days. but thats still only 2 remixes per song. I know some people don't like having a bunch of remixes, but I like to have as many as possible. (current record holder (on my iPod): M, with 14 remixes) But I mean I want her getting back to how her singles were back in the beginning half of her career when every single had 6 or 7 remixes on it. Its far too boring and monotonous to have only the originals and maybe one or 2 remixes. Like, in the past several years, the remixes have almost completely ceased, and its really sad. What I wouldn't give for another remix album. But I'll stop myself before my off-topic rant goes on too long.

Thats sorta what I meant (even though I didn't say it...). But, the number was so small after that per single, and the remix albums became scarce as well. And now that I look at it, I think it'd be more accurate to say "pretty much stopped after I am...". :/ And this isn't a stab at you, rather the number of remixes, but if the remixes came out any slower, they'd be in reverse. :eviltongu

But seriously, and realistically, if it follows this pattern, the remixes could very possibly stop entirely in a few years. I mean, since I am..., they've become fewer and farther between. Bottom line: I want more remixes... as much as I know thats not gonna happen and as much as it saddens me...

And on an off topic note, its times like this that make me glad that there are some remix albums I never got. Like ayu-mi-x 2, The Other Side CDs, and her vinyls (though I doubt I'll ever be able to get Ayu's vinyls...)

Such a shame your didn't like the remo con remix, 'cause i loved it :P i think ayu may release eventually another remix cd, but i don't find very plausible she may release a single like surreal or M anymore :shrug

Urban is a track that utilizes the landscape of the big city: instead of using high technology and intricate compositions, the song consists of Ayumi singing about stepping on dog poo while walking in central park, while in the background a chorus of homeless people curse repeatedly. the instrumental consists of trash cans being hit, pots and pans, and people coughing to the beat (thanks to the poluted air).

The second track is "Ugly Devil". In it Ayumi describes the personality and appearence of another well known popstar, who goes by the name of Koda Kumi.
The track sounds like Cradle of Filth with a dash of electronic and the sounds of Peco murdering hungry street cats.

I miss her old maxi-single format too, but it's not as big a money-maker for avex...:grumpy

I'd be content for another single with a few remixes, especially AOVs. Style-wise, who know what's next, but I wish she'd do some more glam rock-influenced songs, like 1 LOVE and until that Day..., stuff like that. :luv2

I just found the Remo-con remix way too repetative and it had no substance. All percussion, and not very good percussion, imo. But to each his/her own :shrug

I know!!! Its really sad! Remixes just aren't good money-makers anymore, I guess. :( At this point, I'll take any remix I can get. After I get Sunrise/Sunset and SUPER EUROBEAT 200, I'm gonna wrok on comleting the rest of my Ayu-remix discography.

Txtlxous is the new single by ayumi hamasaki. It features 4 songs with their instrumentals. They all have txt language in them.

The remixes on the Rule single were horrible. The Days remix was the biggest disappointment of my life...it was such trash that I'm appalled that they let it appear on the single.

I don't want anymore re-recordings. The only one worthwhile is Depend on you. The others are nice, but they can't hold a flame to the original. SEASONS or anything else re-recorded just wouldn't be the same.

LOL. the Days remix is one of my favorite remixes ever. the GREEN one was awesome too. and SEASONS definitely needs to be re-recorded imo, her voice is so grating in the original track

I love the reggae-ish remix of HANABI on the Voyage single, for me it's better than the original version. :)
