Ok, no idea what the right forum is for this but I'll try this one. :)

The Music Station this week was one of their 3 hour specials where they did a big countdown. Since I have nothing better to do right now, I transcribed the list as I was watching. I didn't romanize everything perfectly because its late and the list is super long. :) It's a pretty good list with a few obligatory wtf moments - such as Greeeen and Juju. (they haven't stood the test of time yet)

It was chosen by a combination of viewers and artists.

Ayu only have 1 song??? err i thought it would be M or Dearest but yeh SEASONS is her best selling single by ignoring A which is 4 songs in 1 single

wat , I was expecting to see Dearest & M on the list since these are classic ayumi staples but SEASONS to be included's great

I'm not surprised at SMAP's Sekai no Hitotsu Dake no Hana being at #1 since it's their best selling single to date with 2.3 million copies + sold since it was released in 2003

it was the best selling single for that year somemore & it's a classic great tune

I found that surprising because she was a guest on the show. I thought for sure I'd see Cutie Honey on there. Almost always if you are a guest it seems Music Station makes sure you have something on the countdown but Kuu, Perfume, and Tackey did not.(and maybe some others) I think that's great actually because it shows maybe Music Station is finally taking these polls in a more serious direction.

And Love So Sweet at #97. They are one of the few artists with 3 on the countdown.

Hm, this list seems a bit off. Whatever. I still agree with a lot of the songs. (Though I, too, was very surprised at only one Ayu song - which was SEASONS, oddly - and no Kumi. >_< Meh.) Yay for Kurenai. <3

Oh, and the UNICORN song, I am 99.99% sure it has to be Daimeiwaku. If you wanna update that. Because the only other one it could be is Hataraku Otoko, but I really don't think it would outbeat the other. Do you have the kanji? 'Cause I could tell you immediately what it is.
(Sorry, that space just bugs my OCD, lol. XD)

Thanks for sharing! But could we really move this thread to the "Ayu Music News" section? I think this is kind of more related to music, not non-music activities...

(And I'm thinking about this trading with this thread "Dissapointing Secret : New Satsuki Hiraoka Goodies for TA", which is in the "Ayu Music News" section but it should be moved into the "Ayu Celebrity News" section as that thread does not relate to music very much (if not, not at all...))

Well, it is basically supposed to be a collection of well known songs. :) The only thing that makes it appear randomish is some of the songs that are too new I think.

I feel bad for Kuu.

Yeah, I can understand very famous (and quite old) songs like Ozaki's I LOVE YOU and Amuro's Can You Celebrate and Spitz's Cherry but I felt too that Kiseki by GreeeeN was odd. That came out last year who knows if it will still be remembered in 10 years (not that its not a great song).

^ Yeah, a lot of the music station polls tend to be like that. People will often vote for songs that are currently on their mind.

Next time they should set a year limit like 1985-2005 or something, XD

^ To call the Japanese opinions on this list weird, probably shows a lack of familiarity with most of the songs on the list. Sometimes it can take a while to break out of just listening to current Japanese music and check out the songs that most everyone in Japan considers classics.

I wouldn't have felt bad for her, but she was a guest that night on the show ( :dead2 ) so I do.

"(Ahahah Sorry Koda Kumi, none of your songs are "classics", but hey,) what song would YOU add to the list?" They actually asked her that but of course everything in parenthesis was what I assumed they were thinking ( :P ).

I would've thought that both voyage and boys&girls would'vve stood a chance, however seasons appears really high on the list. There are some really good song on this list though. Surprised a tthe kiroro ranking, they never really sold anything but seems like this one song has become a solid classic. I didn't see ai's sakuranbo on there, that's kinda strange.

I'm surprised seasons is the only song that made it into the list... What about M or boys and girls?

thats cool. im so surprised and shock that old band like glay l arc en ciel and bz are not higher and dont have more song in that ranking . they is tons of artist that dont exist for that long and have really high ranking. its kinda strange ..

^ I guess this poll was more like, "these are some songs that are kinda classics that I like right now," rather than, "these are the greatest songs of all time!"

Another noticeable omission is SPEED. But Japan just has too many great songs that its hard to fit everybody on a list of just 100.

Only L'Arc song is Honey? They have loads of songs which are better than that IMO. Like Flower for instance...

For Ayumi I thought M or Evolution might be up there.

:yes I think everybody (at least those who take the polls) agrees on this. Because almost every time I see one of these polls it has different songs on it.

waaah! Thanks for sharing the information SunshineSlayer. When I asked people in Japan which songs from Ayu who were their favorites this summer, a lot of people answered SEASONS, so that's not exactly a surprise.

But I was more surprised how many people that had JEWEL and Days as a favorite, especially young girls.

I too have heard many say their favorite is JEWEL, along with Voyage, Dearest, etc.

The Japanese are in love with Honey. I don't know why, but it is by far Larc's most popular song there.

^ Seasons is definitely her most popular song with the general public. It's usually always her highest ranked song in these types of polls.

as for Music Station, for some reasoan unbeknownst to me, is no longer post'd on d-addicts (on a regular/up-to-date basis). does anyone know of where I can get it. I love watching that show and YT just doesn't do it for me.
