“For the song of the movie "Kamui Gaiden", it was the first time for me to write lyrics with ‘an hopeless loneliness’.”



For「Alive」I got the order from the director to write lyrics to accompany a sound originally from an opera piece. When I first listened to that new melody, I couldn’t imagine my husky voice in such a beautiful song. I doubted whether I could do it. But, in order to discover a new me, I thought it was important for me to fight that feeling. So I answered that I would do it, but felt very nervous about it.

In the movie “Kamui Gaiden”, the protagonist Kamui is considered to be a traitor when he leaves his shinobi clan in search for freedom. It becomes his fate to fight against the pursuing shinobi. Because he is continuously chased, he brings troubles to everyone who gets close to him. Therefore, he chooses a way of life where he doesn’t come into contact with anyone else. I thought that was a truly lonely story. Personally, when my heart gets broken, I may feel like I want to die, but the next day I’ll want to live a long life again. I’m the type who only drinks healthy drinks (laugh). To create such world view where there is only loneliness without hope, was the most difficult for me. Until now, I’ve only written lots of songs where in midst of the sadness there are still positive feelings present.

After I had first read the script, I started to write the lyrics for it. From the movie’s point of view I felt there was still a brightness left in that world. After understanding and appreciating the movie, I wanted to write the lyrics. While receiving and giving feedback I worked everything out. I also sang and recorded the song while watching the movie at the same time. It was quite difficult but, when「Alive」was finished and I heard it playing during one of the scenes, it fitted very well with the movie and…I was really happy, I was really moved ♥

This song which Koda Kumi couldn’t even imagine up till now, please check it out!


“Edgy, effective dance-tunes are my origin; I want to portray a steady and sexy woman.”



When I read fan letters, there a lot of people who tell me that they like my ballads and cute songs. But when I sing my cool, sexy songs live everyone gets exited. When I sang Ecstasy, a song from my previous single, I thought things like “…somehow, this feels like Koda Kumi ♥”. 「Physicial Thing」has nuanced meanings like ‘feel it with your body’ and ‘follow your instincts’. That’s why, the PV is set in a club with me dancing intensely, pouring expensive alcohol on myself etc…it creates a sexy adult feeling ♥

It’s the opposite extreme compared to the classical 「Alive」. But actually, these two songs are connected via their mutual theme of loneliness. No matter how many times you embrace, no matter how many times you pretend to be strong; when you’re together you can still feel total loneliness. I’m singing about that female weakness and loneliness. And, when people who feel such a loneliness realize: “I’m lonely”, in a sense, that is a positive thing isn’t it? I wish to convey such a message.

10 years; there was no time to look back over my shoulder (laugh). The journey from my debut to now…wasn’t smooth. But, the strength from everyone around me was large. Even while wearing high heels, I could walk on that bumpy road, without stumbling, because of everyone who supported me. When I enter my tenth year, I want to release a BEST album and a book similar to the previously released Koda Shiki. And I want to try to write down several of my real opinions, which have changed since I’ve been nearing the thirty (laugh).

yay for new thread & I think the fans of hers in Japan are suspecting that her 8th album might be released anytime soon which explain the sluggish sales ? :shrug

anyway you shouldn't compare Koda against bands at all since a solo artiste's selling power's not as strong as it once was in the past :(

Interesting Kuu has a lot of Taiwan magazines! And in the Taiwan concert goods, the "T" in Tour is the same "T" as in TRICK. So I think this concert should be something similar to the TRICK Tour? Haha.

We don't know yet... I initially thought it was a completely different concert but seeing the TRICK font on the Taiwan tour goodies... either the Taiwan concert would have elements of the TRICK tour, or avex designers are getting lazy... =.="

The arena where she's having the concert is probably too small for her stage, and I did read somewhere that she wanted to make it intimate or special for her Taiwanese fans. And as first o/s live, I'm sure she'll do a bunch of her older songs.

I don't think these concerts are an extension of trick tour too. it will be something different.

the place that Koda's having her 1st Taiwan concert is not the Taipei Arena where past jpop artistes like ayumi , ARASHI , Namie , NEWS performed in before when they performed in Taiwan

rather it's at some Uni concert hall in which the size capacity's definitely smaller than Taipei Arena

I thought Kuu usually releases albums at the very end or very beginning of the year?

If she's following her normal pattern, we've still got, like, at least 3 months till she releases a new album.

to be honest I prefer small stages XD second session tour is my favorite tour and it was realized in a smaaaall stage! the same with Dirty Ballroom :luv2

and I agree with pommy and karen. I think she will have an ASIA TOUR for her 10th anniversary or the next year if she is lucky XDD

I also think the taiwanese concerst aren't an extended TRICK tour.
It's a small gym with a smaller stage and Kuu said she's making it special somehow. So I expect something like Dirty Ballroom, two shows with old and newer songs and nice dancing and ideas.

I actually...like the bigger stages for a theatrical person like kuu...

If it's like just a singer singing...small stages ftw. When you need a lot of dancers and props and stuff...bigger is best. TRICK tour stage was small to me.

I guess I wouldn't mind another dirty ballroom though. (minus the cheesy crap of course)

BUT the effects of Dirty Ballroom were cool,because it wás a bonus concert.

For a tour it would not have been that good but for Dirty Ballroom very nice imo *_*

trick tour goods for the Taiwan concerts? I wonder if the concerts will be trick themed but different than the jp arena tour.

Both the Taiwan concerts aren't sold out yet...u can still purchase them on the website. I wonder if she will have an asia tour for her 10th anniversary. I remember ayu's first taipei arena concert sold out in 2 hrs.

We've heard what Kuu-chan wants to do most this summer! And as the conversation progressed, we were impressed with her strong ambition and hard work! Kuu: I thought about my various experiences of this year. Because there was more time for me to think than the last time, it was a performance packed with various feelings. But, every year, the biggest hurdle is to exceed last year’s performance. I must always keep moving upward in order to make a performance where people who went to see me once, will bring their friends, lovers and family along the next time.

-----For people who aren’t your fans to still have a good time?
Kuu: Yes, I want to make a performance that’s enjoyable for everyone, even if they haven’t listened to my albums before. Moreover, I want people who wonder “what’s Koda Kumi like?” to think “she’s great!”. I’ll keep trying (laughs). That’s why I try my hardest and prepare surprise performances. I want to thank my staff. Because they have responded to the things I’ve said, I can proudly say, “this year’s performance went great!”.

-----Because all the things you’ve accumulated have come to fruition, right?
Kuu: Though I’ve certainly debuted like I said I wanted, there were also some wishes which didn’t come true. But, even if there are things which I can’t do, I’ll try my best at the things which I can. I’m still glad I’ve had such a period. Because it’s become a stimulus for me to always try my best if I want something I wish for to become a reality. Good lyrics, performances, clothes, goods etc.; because, at that time, I was as fixated as I could be on those things, everything up ‘till now is connected.

-----In your new PV, this determination can be felt, even in the small and cute details.
Kuu: Thank you. But, it’s really like that. Even if it’s only one ball pen, there are a lot of cute things. The small details are important. Even if you cut corners for just a little bit, I think fans will absolutely notice it. Because I pay attention to everything, my staff also pays a lot of attention and that’s why we create great things together!

-----What are you the most influenced by to maintain such feelings and awareness?
Kuu: Firstly, the feeling of wanting to surprise my waiting fans with great things. After that, the collaboration with Fergie, working overseas, the chance to work with experienced artists etc.; such things fire me up. I have to make works of which I’m glad to have made them together. I think I have to firmly watch my surroundings in order to not make self-centered works. I also go to performances of respectful Japanese artists, or just watch the DVD. In the past I didn’t watch them very often (laughs). And, because lots of great artists possess qualities which I don’t have, it encourages me to sincerely appreciate them. You must discover things which others haven’t.

-----That’s very hard, isn’t it!
Kuu: No, I want to do things with such feelings! Because lots of people are involved, I can’t cut corners. My life is also passing by. Now is only now. Maintaining my style and power of expression, absorbing several things, growing, progressing etc.; I have to keep doing such things. Also, it’s very important for me that everyone is happy. There are a lot of things that sound beautiful, but there are also a lot of things which I can’t do.

-----Lastly, what do you want to do the most this summer?
Kuu: There are a lot of events this year. I want to let everyone have a good time at every single event. More than having a good time myself, I want to try my utmost best to let everyone else have a great time!

^coz when i check the taiwan webisite, it state that one person can buy maximum five pcs of the SAME item only, so just in case if he's getting extra for his ebay shop tell him i 'chop' one already.

at least i can feel better about missing the concert, i can't afford to leave singapore now, dad....needs me, the doctor told us that he's left with 2 to 10 weeks only.....

ah ok but I do know that he still has some of her previous concert goods left in his ebay shop but I already let him know about it on MSN so hopefully he can give me an offline message reply soon
