Does anyone like

Music that isn't pop? Not to sound hostile, I was just wondering :confused

Unimatrix Prime™ 13th September 2003 10:57 PM

Why of course :) ! I'm a huge trance fan, and it's been quite a while since I've bothered to listen to the radio :D !

Cavi 13th September 2003 11:38 PM

I most certainly do. Trance is my genre of choice. Other than that, I listen to all sorts of electronica. Progressive, chill, breaks, whatever catches my attention. I'm also into some modern scoring for movies, TV, videogames.

I really hate the current pop scene in the US right now. I cannot stand turning on the radio these days.

nmskalmn 14th September 2003 12:38 AM

Western classical music. I also have a few film soundtracks and a mild interest in electronica and world music. I listen to no western pop music (ie the kind of stuff that gets played on MTV and the radio) at all.

StorDuff 14th September 2003 01:34 AM

Trance music, like Cosmic Gate, Dj Tiesto, Marco V, Dj Lady Dana? Cause I like all that too:D

Industrial is what I often listen to, and enjoy, the most it seems.

ayumi_pukka89 14th September 2003 01:35 AM

i love rock!!!!!!!!!!! rock is the best!!!!!!!! ^^
i also love trance!! ^^ i really like Ayla and Atb

averageone 14th September 2003 08:01 AM

Anything else... except for Rap.. (rootword for CRAP!), Deathmetal, and country.... (like.. i lost my house, my woman and my dog.. all i have is my truck) ....

Everything else is all~ fair game. ^_-

Peruvian_Sky 14th September 2003 08:10 AM

Mostly anything but rap, punk, and country. I love metal and all of it's subgenres, as well as fusion (a style of jazz), and progressive rock. I also like a lot of classic rock and AOR.

sxesven 14th September 2003 11:15 AM

Besides jpop, I love emo, gamesoundtracks, jazz, noise, hardcore and grindcore. I can enjoy other things too, hiphop, stonerrock, but these are definitely my favorites.

samuraiDRIVE 14th September 2003 11:44 AM

punk, rock, alternative...

Thrice, Finch, Taking Back Sunday, A.F.I, Saves the Day, Brand New, The Starting Line, Thursday, Coheed and Cambria, to name a few of the newer bands...

Pat Benetar, Heart, Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Bon Jovi, Deep Purple, INXS, Styx... to name a few of the older ones.

I'm definately a rock fan. That's why I liked "I Am..." so much.

hamayumisaki 14th September 2003 11:48 AM

I am a trance person also!!
I guess a lot of people on this furum also like it.:)

Hey, another emofan. l33t. Thursday and AFI are so great. I saw AFI live three months ago. Awesome.

ZeF 14th September 2003 12:00 PM

I listen to basically anything that's good, but I tend to listen to rock. At one point I only listened to JPOP so I had no idea what was going on in the American music scene, but now I'm well-rounded. Hip Hop/R&B gets regular play on my playlist.

Favorite Artists: Linkin Park, Coldplay, Incubus, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, m-flo, Garbage, Gackt and Dragon Ash.

paper_doll 14th September 2003 02:37 PM

Hmm, but what about Ayu? She's pop too.

I don't really hate pop. Often I don't like popmusic, but I don't hate it BECAUSE it is pop. I got some l33t pop records too.

appears 14th September 2003 03:14 PM

i like progressive house, real trance like sasha / digweed etc [ie proper trance music that actually puts u in a trance - they should have called "ayu trance" - "ayu pop", stuff like the svenson / gielen [?] mix of "Depend on you" is the same sort of lame pop **** found in the charts imo :(]
im finally getting more into drum n bass as well.

Set_0ne 14th September 2003 03:19 PM

Eeekk!! I forgot I had Japanese text on..*retypes in English*

I rather like the Australian pop scene more than the USA...I love Hip Hop, Trip Hop, Trance, Jungle, House, Punk, World, Instrumental, Rock...And whatever else I take a liking too.

Dislike: Country and Opera

shinji1698 14th September 2003 03:48 PM

Oh yeah, I meant English Pop. I <3 Japanese Pop.

StorDuff 14th September 2003 04:03 PM

Drums n Bass / Jungle is good, I like it but it tends to drive me insane if I listen to it too long :D

As for trance, I've never been to a trance party or a rave in my life, it doesn't really seem like my thing. I think I just like the music, not sure, some day I'd like to go to Trance Energy or Qontact ;)

Nothing can beat rock/pop rock/hard rock/classical rock?/metal/Shiina Ringo.

Findlay 16th September 2003 12:47 AM

Ballad songs mostly, like SEASONS. Rock and R&B don't attract me much though. :)

Set_0ne 17th September 2003 04:57 PM

sxesven 17th September 2003 06:21 PM

Like ambient. I got one Ambient CD too, Brian Eno's Music For Airports. It really is relaxing!

It's an offshoot of the trance scene. Named after Goa, India. It may be interchangeable with psy trance, though don't quote me on that since I don't know much about that particular scene.

Set_0ne 18th September 2003 08:39 AM

Hmm, I may have to check out some goa music then..But again, I've never heard of psy trance either :/

sxesven 18th September 2003 09:49 AM

Me neither :laugh what's it like, I always had the idea it actually put you in a trance :rolleyes and the fact that they sold it in the biggest heavy metal mailorder in the Benelux confused me even more! :D

narusegawa 23rd September 2003 05:43 PM

amanda loves u 20th June 2004 11:50 PM

So uhm.
Mainly I like some western punk. OLD punk and hardcore. None of this new pop-punk garbage.
And a lot of metal, even a little death metal, like the stuff coming out of Norway. The creepy stuff, you know.
And I like a lot of classical stuff. I like Chinese opera a lot too. Don't ask why.

tyrantRave 21st June 2004 03:29 AM

Metal>Classical>Dance/Pop, I put English metal before asian metal because something felt missing from asian metal.

tyrantRave 21st June 2004 03:49 AM

I notice many members listen to nu-metal. Not that anything wrong with it, but nu-metal is not consider metal by a some metalhead, infact nu-metal is degrogatory genre given to certain band that doesn't follow doesn't the traditional structure.

My question to is would you consider band to be metal if they play heavy song?

Anyone heard of Rhapsody before because it a band.

Ayumi_Hamasaki902 21st June 2004 04:34 AM

I love Techno and Dance music that most out of everything even though I like all types of music but Rap.

Nu-metal is lame. :yes If you like metal, at least make sure you listen to real metal. Not that crap. Arr.

It's funny though how, according to you, nu-metal is a degrogatory (?, i know what you mean though) name given to the genre because it doesn't follow the traditional structure. Which would mean metalheads are stuck up and hate progression? I don't think so. The problem is that it's lame.

My mistake I mean evolution is good but nu-metal is not a improvement rather a downgrade because the format is litterally verse-chorus-verse-chorus and the composition is pretty simple. Metal is kown for the technicality and nu-metal show little to no sign of it.

sxesven 22nd June 2004 10:10 AM

Ah. Good observation then :). You're very correct. For years, a number of bands and musicians have been trying to break through this standard format of verses and bridges and chorusses. Progressive artists like Dillinger Escape Plan, Dying Fetus, Cryptopsy, Candiria, you name 'em. And not only on the 'rock' field. Those of you familiar with jazz know how different the musical approach of artists such as John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, Miles Davis, and Art Blakey, among others, was. Even a band that is in general sometimes even called 'nu-metal' (for reasons I don't understand, for they're clearly not), namely Deftones, is doing very progressive stuff. The opening track on their previous album White Pony, Feiticeira, didn't even have a chorus!

~Ayanami~ 22nd June 2004 05:12 PM

i mainly listen to emo, pop-punk etc. like A.F.I., the holiday plan, taking back sunday, InMe, finch, three days grace, funeral for a friend, ash, weezer, foo fighters, new found glory, simple plan, alkaline trio, and so on...

I dont really listen to pop but Ayu is definately an exception ^_^
