Ayu's Name

This is so random...but have you guys ever noticed that like, Ayu's name is really pretty written?

Like in my itunes, when I see it next to other Japanese names, it's all curvy and interesting looking.

I think it's really pretty to look at. To me, the characters for her last name look really unique...but that may just be because I don't really know a lot about kanji...

what do you guys think?

StarSUCKER 24th November 2009 10:50 AM

Well I think that's because she doesn't use her given name's kanji, so her name stands out in my iTunes too.

~ayu-cake~ 24th November 2009 11:05 AM

I agree :)
I always think it looks beautiful.

sugarbasil 24th November 2009 11:12 AM

I always liked it because it stood out. Koda Kumi's looks so generic to me, and Namie's is just so...long. :laugh I like that Ayu's has the simplicity with it. :)

nemesisyume 24th November 2009 11:13 AM

it's one of the ones I recognize in a second

crea_spain 24th November 2009 12:23 PM

^ ^

浜崎あゆみ --> these are the only 5 kanji / hiragana I know :D

y_nathz 24th November 2009 12:28 PM

yeah i think so too..
the hiragana for "ayumi" is very cute and the kanji for "hamasaki" wasnt as difficult as the one in namie's name..

ren0210989 24th November 2009 12:30 PM

hers is the only name i actually recognize xD and yes, it looks pretty artistic^^

noisy_harmony 24th November 2009 01:29 PM

Yes, it looks pretty... And her name has pretty meaning ; )

JackieRos 24th November 2009 09:27 PM

^yes i could be in an asian store and look at the tittles
and i see her kanji im like oh thats ayu
i really like her name too in kanji is so pretty

TeddyGrahams 25th November 2009 02:28 AM

浜 崎 あ ゆ み
Hama saki A yu mi
Kanji vs Hiragana

I think ayumi looks pretty because it's in Hiragana. I thought that most Japanese ppl write their personal (first in the US) names in Kanji or Katagana (names derived from non japanese origins) when they're older, but ayu still writes in Hiragana lol. I guess she's a child for life. But the kanji for Ayumi is 歩, or step.

Picaflor 7/4 25th November 2009 02:44 AM

it's cool looking, but I could never write it. too bubbly looking, the symbols for a-yu-mi. look too similar to me. and the yu looks like a fish.

mobius 25th November 2009 02:51 AM

I like how her name is pronounce in Chinese 浜崎歩 (Bing Qi Bu) but, 浜崎 あゆみ is nice too.

rookies 25th November 2009 03:18 AM

Her name looks very unique in Japanese.

jiarongisme 25th November 2009 03:18 AM

^ Actually Ayumi can be written as "歩" in kanji too. :yes

Yeah, I really love her name. One of the very few J-Artistes names that I actually know how to write. XD

PoetGirl 25th November 2009 05:16 AM

lol, random yes it is ^^
but i have to agree

rakeru 25th November 2009 05:22 AM

when pronounced, her name has a certain audible flow that a "harsh" language like Japanese usually lacks. it's just so much fun to say and write her name!

pommy48 25th November 2009 05:23 AM

I love it! It's always so curly, though I love Namie's name better.....but I just like complicated characters more lol

mcluva420 25th November 2009 06:54 AM

hmm..hamasaki doesnt look that pretty to me o_O but ayumi looks pretty :)
i never cared for the "beauty" of the words unless im trying to write it out xD
and, i think namie's name is really consistant or something, and looks like a straight row of words with around the same strokes.
it's an entirely different story when it comes to signatures ;)

Japanese is a harsh language? I don't think so. XD

I think that Ayu's birthname is 濱崎歩, isn't it? Still pronounced the same, which is what I prefer. But I think that 浜崎あゆみ also has a sort of...grace about it. :P
Especially when written cursively.

me too, it sounds so cute in Chinese ^^

but yeah i love the look and sound of her name ^^
あゆみ is fun to write :D 浜崎 is kinda difficult though

pommy48 25th November 2009 08:04 AM

I would love to see Ayu's signature when she signs in Japanese....but I don't think she ever does?

Maybe that's it. Because the letters are so much more curved than in other people's names. It's really pretty.

Like I think it would look so cool on like, some giant banner with really interesting ink.

@pomegranate: Namie's name is crazy. The characters are so full and there's like 5 of them. I could never fail to recognise her name lol

pommy48 25th November 2009 08:42 AM

Lol maybe Namie based SO CRAZY off of her name XD

I recognize her name that way too...so many strokes while Ayu's is so curly and loopy ♥

emi♡ 25th November 2009 08:49 AM

yeah like...it's crazy loopy when compared to all these other names...this is what I see anyway lol

http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/5259/namesi.jpg

I don't know if that's really indicative of the average name in Japan.

and I didn't know she made a song based off her name :laugh It is crazy...I would have never thought you could use so many characters to say a relatively short name lol

pommy48 25th November 2009 08:51 AM

I guess the closest to the loopiest is Ami Suzuki XD

Lol exactly XD Ayumi Hamasaki is a lot longer than Namie Amuro

Namie's name is kinda easy to write.....though I can't say the same for the artist above ayaka :laugh

emi♡ 25th November 2009 08:58 AM

god I barely even remember which one is ayaka lol

oh right...The one above it is "Shiori Takei"...I didn't listen to her much...maybe you should try her pomegranate, she has some nice ballads...and a really nice voice....some are a bit jazzy though.

I really like Sonomi Tameoka's name too, which is 為岡そのみ.

C+R+E+AYUMI 25th November 2009 09:20 AM

it's less interesting to you because is written in hiragana, the japanese syllables alphabet used to write all the grammatical components of the sentences but is used as well to write all the names or words.

Well, Ayu's name is 歩 really but I thought she wrote ayumi in hiragana as her artist name just to stand out...? Or am I totally wrong? I just thought I heard it somewhere...

asmAyumi1992 25th November 2009 07:13 PM

Ayumi Hamasaki, the name I'll find it first in newspapers, internet, mags, and everything.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but actually most Japanese's personal names are in Kanji, but there are also many females who have their first name in hiragana.

Most of the time when someone has their name written in katakana it is when it's a foreign name (like 土屋アンナ Tsuchiya Anna, 木村カエラ Kimura Kaela, and 青山テルマ Aoyama Thelma), or when they simply opt to use katakana aesthetically as their artistic name if they're in the media.

But it is true that hiragana is viewed in a way "childish" or cute. In Ayu's case, I think they went for the hiragana because it's "cuter".

noidea 25th November 2009 09:41 PM

ayumi looks beautiful and simple at the same time, i like it, also it feels more personal than kanji

AyUta 25th November 2009 11:07 PM

I agree emi :) I've always noticed that about her name. I can recognize her name in an instant XD.
