[Scanlation] Vivi Deji Deji Diary Full Book =In Progress=

Hi all!! :)

Am currently undertaking a project to translate and fix (aka scanlate) ayu's Vivi Deji Deji Diary, released in 2009.

http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/2539/dejideji01.jpg

However, as it is a full book by itself, and translating ayu's current TA diary entries and newly released mag scans will remain my first priority, I'll probably take some time to finish this.

http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/6540/no22b.th.jpg http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/7361/no21w.th.jpg http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/3266/no20r.th.jpg http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/1971/no79.th.jpg

Issues #1-10:

Issues #10-19:

Notes:
Quote:

When ayu says "konnichiwawa", she's combining the words konnichiwa (hello) and chiwawa (Japanese spelling for chihuahua).
"CREA" refers to her pet chihuahua, not to herself as the composer Crea.
I'll try to scanlate one new page every 1-2 days and post it up here, so do check back for updates!! And when I'm done with the whole book, I'll zip it all up and post a download link. :yes

Why I'm doing this? I just hope that I can help fans from outside Japan understand and appreciate ayu more, in whichever way I can. And since I know some Japanese as well as design skills, I figured scanlations will be my best way to help spread the ayu love. :D So if you can feel closer to ayu when reading these, I'll be really happy. ^^

If you have any suggestions or comments, or if you spot any translation errors, do let me know!! ;)

This project is inspired by truehappiness. :)

Credit goes to:
hudie.com, identity, Kesteral and zoomzoom for scans.
oji-i-san for edits.

uhh~~, how many pages are there for translation and edit?
well, maybe it is time for me to buy it, too :P

I don't know well about fashion brands, but I think I can help you sometimes once I get the original. For example, it looks like CA4LA to me and it seems this one ☟

keikeiaznqueen 7th February 2010 03:35 AM

Thank you for your hard work! I really appreciate this. :D

truehappiness 7th February 2010 03:54 AM

At first, I asked if she could do the interview... and then she said she wanted to do all 100 diary entries!

Thank you so much! Fans are going to be thanking you for years to come, haha.

Ahahaha yes thank you for that!! ^^ I was spending the longest time just wondering if she meant CA4LA or CA&LA as in California and Los Angeles. =P

Help will be really great!! I spend really long trying to figure out her handwriting sometimes. That girl doesn't really write neatly. :P

truehappiness 7th February 2010 04:37 AM

I had no idea that it was called Deji Deji (in the beginning, Pola Pola / Pora Pora...) after the format of the photos taken for the diary, hahahaha. Digital camera photos -> dejikamu photos -> deji deji, Polaroid photos -> pola pola...

-hides-

You learn something new every day, I guess.

Thanks Misa-chan for this awesome scanlation project. Looking forward to it.

Issues #2 and #3 up. Issue #1 has also been edited and reuploaded. Enjoy!! :D

One small request. I don't actually own this book myself, and sometimes it's really hard to make out what's written because the scans I have are quite LQ. So if anyone could help out by providing better scans, it'll be greatly appreciated!! XD

AyUta 7th February 2010 09:41 PM

This is huge, thank you! You've been a big help :yes.

love in music 8th February 2010 12:34 AM

I have the book and a scanner, but my scanner isn't that big so I scanned some pages in parts that are pretty large in size so you can probably make out her handwriting better than in the smaller scans. I just scanned vol. 4-9 but if you feel like these are helpful I can scan some more. If not I won't, I just wanted to try to help!

Sorry the scans aren't perfect, I really don't want to damage/break my book.

Wow thanks!! These are really useful. ^^

Yeah, I know scanning really damages books. What I do normally is to take close-up photos with a camera instead. ;)

I'd really really appreciate it if you can continue helping. But that's if you have the time to!! I understand it's tough work. Thanks lots once again!! I'm off to work on more now~ :)

zoomzoom 8th February 2010 01:48 PM

^Yea scanning books and booklets is pretty hard, I remember when truehappiness completely ripped one of his extra GUILTY things to scan it. But hey, the scans were great! :D

If needed, I can definitely take pictures of my book, but I'd be way too scared to try and scan it :P

Misa-chan 8th February 2010 09:14 PM

Hi all!! Issue #4 is up!! :D

I'd like to ask opinions though. For people reading this, do you guys find that it's really messy? Would it be better if I airbrushed away ayu's handwritings and replaced them just with the English translations? :headache

I initially wanted to keep ayu's handwritings on the scanlations because its unique and cute in her way, but now I've realized that 1)there's almost no space to place the translations, 2) the scanlation looks a little messy with so many writings all over. :tired

So what do you guys think?

Haha, I think some people complained about those scans and wanted better scans because "they had a rip in the middle of them" or something. OF COURSE THEY DID. There's practically no way to scan that book well without completely ruining the binding, and I forgot to microwave the book, so the glue ended up sticking. I checked my mint/intact version of the book and I was like "I can't even open this photobook that wide, wtf?!"

And as for these translations, I can read them just fine... usually the Chinese ViVi just puts Chinese translations over an airbrushed/non-written-on template, but I think it might be better to keep it there. It's already enough work translating as it is....

Speaking of the new issue, I've actually walked into that SPARK store. It was pretty weird, but I saw photos of Ayu inside the store, and I didn't even know that was a place regularly visited by Ayu until after I visited, haha.

It's just fine ^^ I like the way you keep her handwriting, but if there is no room then yeah, you probably have no choice but to airbrush some out.

I imagine that it'll probably take 4-5 months at the most if Misa-chan works at the pace she is now. It really depends on how much stuff she has to do. I don't think anyone expects it to be done by say, March. Most people are just happy that someone's taking the time translate the entries in the first place!

Sure sure, my scanner just can't pick up on those parts near the spine x_x but I did try taking pics of them that I think should be readable. Let me know if these work for you.

Ooh, so in the beginning it was the purpose to show pics or Ayu's REAL life, cause she's human and not a singing machine...

Too bad her recent Deji Deji entries are usually just screenshot of her PV's / Tour making ofs ;)

Thank you sooooooooo much for putting this effort! It's so interesting, gives a whole new dimension to the book now that I can do more than just looking at pics! :D great!!

You're welcome :). My book is fine, but I think the pictures I've been taking haven't turned out that bad, so maybe I'll continue doing that as it's not as risky for my book as scanning. Here are some close-ups of some on Vol. 9 near the binding too:

You're so fast! Thanks for all the translations. Haha it's great that we can see a transition from Polaroid cameras to digital cameras. Also, Ayu does talk about her teeth being fixed very frankly. :P

Hi all!! Sorry for not updating this thread, but there's been a slight problem. :no identity can no longer provide close-up shots of the text in the book, hence I'm unable to read and translate them. So if anyone is kind enough to help out, it'll be great. :)

awesome. Thank you so much for your hard work. I always look at the magazine and then try to guess what the words say based on the pictures. But this way I'll actually be able to read the comments. LOL :)

Thank you, Misa-chan :heart
I'm glad she changed from style (no more polaroids) :yes Even though she was kind of artistic with the polaroids (a lot of colors and such), it looks kind of messy :laugh
Also, Bancho changed so much :thud I didn't recognize her in the first pics.
