It's sad...BoA designed those outfits :(.

Brodie Boy 21st February 2010 02:31 AM

I really don't think the outfits are that bad, just not as out there as other artists. I think she is trying to be plain with it all to go with the new image... maybe >.>

jean-baptiste 21st February 2010 03:13 AM

^yeah, i agree. they aren't horrible. they're quite stylish actually. just not something i'd use for a concert tour. it's too plain. but like Brodie Boy said, that could be what she's going for. :shrug nothing wrong with that.

She produced the album, she designed the outfits... Girl needs to stop, it's not cute :no. Even if "plain" was goal, she failed miserably.

jean-baptiste 21st February 2010 07:19 AM

^LMFAO
so mean yet so true. xD
no one said the truth was pretty, haha.

freedreamer 21st February 2010 07:52 AM

I like the lsat outfit and the pink dress-blouse...her short hair looks nice now hahha,,,

Brodie Boy 21st February 2010 08:02 AM

I wonder if she'll keep self producing...

wait this is'nt a joke, but did she self design that Christmas live cover!? >.>

AyUta 21st February 2010 07:19 PM

^ I don't know about that one :no.

Yeah, it's a depressing truth! It just really hurts me to see her like this because I was in love with her music before I was in love with Ayu's (Ayu had to grow on me a bit). Now I just wonder why she even tries... But she's young and a hard worker, I think she can bounce back. I think more than anyone she needs a break though. Come back in a few years with something fresh and new.

JackieRos 21st February 2010 09:22 PM

is identity worth a try to listen to?
I downloaded it but didn't bother putting it in my iTunes

Kaiouforever 21st February 2010 10:29 PM

Despite all the crap people are saying, it's actually not bad. BUMP BUMP is quite awesome, possibility is a great duet, and The end soshite imo is really a great song...

FIRSTKLAS 22nd February 2010 01:14 AM

^True that. :yes

I don't know why people are acting like IDENTITY is the worst thing ever when it's likely to be a milestone in BoA's career.

I'll admit that I was taken aback when I first heard the album because of how different it sounds compared to her previous work, but now that I've had it for a while, I actually find myself listening to it more than her other albums because of how much more mature it sounds.

I can only wish that more JPop stars would take such a big risk and redefine themselves rather than sticking with what works and what's expected of them.

adantatu2 22nd February 2010 01:49 AM

Her worst album, but the album is not bad at all
But the interludes are ridiculous!!!!!!

wildconnetta 22nd February 2010 05:49 PM

I agree with FIRSTKLAS & Kaiouforever, as this is actually a darn great album. This Is Who I Am is a great ballad, EASY sounds edgy, LAZER sounds like La Roux (:luv2), is this love sounds like a midtempo ballad, Neko Love is a really good dance song, the album version of THE END Soshite and... makes it better, Possibility is like her best song since Eien, fallin' sounds like Lady Go! and my all is an amazing ballad. I love this album :heart

I can't even remember how any of the tracks go except Mamoritai. :\

JackieRos 23rd February 2010 01:21 AM

noisy_harmony 25th February 2010 01:59 PM

freedreamer 25th February 2010 03:07 PM

For the better I hope?

Earth_maiden 25th February 2010 04:02 PM

I have my own playlist for the album, took out the useless interludes and replaced them with Eien and IZM. It's so much more likeable that way. :3

I do wonder what BoA was thinking, honestly, with these interludes. :headache

Mr. Goto 25th February 2010 05:25 PM

i'm blinded from it's beauty :yes avex must of spent a fortune on the cover :yes

nemesisyume 25th February 2010 06:04 PM

^ yes they must have spent like 100 yen on it.
thats srsly the worst DVD cover I've ever seen.

Maemi 25th February 2010 06:14 PM

I'm afraid of looking forward to any future BoA's release :no

U-GO-BOY 25th February 2010 06:24 PM

why didn't they include a picture of her on the cover? or is she really hiding in that chandelier? :/

pommy48 25th February 2010 07:19 PM

lol i've been staring at the cover just hoping to see maybe BoA hiding in there @_@

Beauty4123 25th February 2010 07:27 PM

Maybe this has something to do with all the lawsuits against SM for abuse and no pay. I can't conclude exactly what is going atm.

In addition, BoA said she wants to return to the US at the end of the year while making random trips to Korea to meet with her fans.

Suejinners says

I've read this at uriboa and kind of hesitated on whether or not I should post it but.. here it goes.

In a interview on 2010/ 2/ 19 they asked if she had any activities in Korea scheduled... And BoA replied she's been thinking if it was possible she would like to release an album in Korea.... since it's been 4 years since she's last release one.

And also in this article it says that BoA plans to focus on her activities in Japan but their discussing ways to frequently meet with her Korean fans

Lastly this article says because of BoA's contract with Avex, she had to temporarily stop her activities in the U.S. Currently, BoA's promoting her album in Japan BUT it is said that she will resume her activities in the U.S. around the second half of the year.

pommy48 25th February 2010 07:29 PM

She's still gonna try in the US :thud

Maemi 25th February 2010 07:55 PM

Hilarious LOL

U-GO-BOY 25th February 2010 08:56 PM

but this means that she'll release an album which more people will like now lol

adantatu2 25th February 2010 11:02 PM

Another AMERICAN ALBUM X_X

Any Korean artist who is releasing in Japan under Avex has a contract in place. Avex selling their shares won't change that. What we should be interested in is what happens when those contracts expire.

In BoA's case, the only reason they wouldn't renew her contract is if she's costing them more money than she's worth - which I am honestly a little confused about since it doesn't seem like they're spending much money on her anyway since she hasn't done much promotion since, what, THE FACE? :P

Basically, I think she'll be fine, even with her current sales, if Avex isn't losing money on her.

Polyrhythm 25th February 2010 11:27 PM

I guess BoA likes to flop. First deciding to self produce Identicrap and returning to the US now for another embarrassment....oh well....she's made all the cash in the world already....guess she can do what she pleases.

Tom Punks 26th February 2010 12:04 AM

^ BoA sort of doesn't get to do what she wants 90% of the time anyways so it's not her fault she's flopping...

Brodie Boy 26th February 2010 12:16 AM

I think she should slow down or cut off one country on her list so she can perform with the energy she used to and she can work on her music in one of her 3 languages better. I mean maybe Identity was rushed so they can hurry and make another American album... :(

jean-baptiste 26th February 2010 02:26 AM

wow another american album? i'll admit i liked the first one, but it wasn't a success. =\ if she's really coming back to the U.S. so soon, i'm gonna feel like buying 5 copies of the album just cause i'll feel so bad it won't sell. >_<

also, i don't mean to sound angry or like i'm attacking in anyway, but i'm honestly curious. to the one's who think IDENTITY completely sucks, what's the reason? i think it's one of her weakest albums compared to her past ones, but i really don't find it disgustingly horrible to the point that i can't even listen to it. i've already heard that it sounds unfinished, are there anymore reasons? or maybe someone can elaborate on how it sounds unfinished?

again, i'm only curious to hear what others think.

Polyrhythm 26th February 2010 02:33 AM

Well if you are a fan of BoA's older stuff....the quality of IDENTITY is just a slap in the face. The whole album...minus 2-3 songs....is a complete bore...the tracks are generic and bland....and just look at the interludes. Tell me they spent countless hours toiling and plan over how to put together the album....how to make it cohesive...how to market it successfully....there's just no effort. Is it the WORST album of the year? Most likely not...but from where BoA stood before...it's a pretty embarrassing fall.

zyoeru 26th February 2010 02:37 AM

Yes. This album is really rubbish. I hope her American album will be far better, but I'm not holding my breath.

TITANIC 26th February 2010 02:59 AM

Its ok for the starter to compose her own album. its not that bad. shes just an amateur composer but comparing her old songs IDENTITY is totally horrible

AyUta 26th February 2010 04:46 AM

I hope her second American album does well....:(.

Polyrhythm 26th February 2010 05:14 AM

I hope she doesn't have a second American album cause if she goes that way...theres a 120% chance it will flop...and she aint coming back.....her career will be done for. The next Nami Tamaki or Hitomi Shimatani...so much talent gone to waste. It's not hard for her to make a comeback from the horribleness that is IDENTITY and she should focus on doing so.

visionfactory 26th February 2010 05:29 AM

I do think that if she releases a 2nd album it's gonna sell better than the 1st one because she is little by little doing better and better on the radio charts, right? :think She just has to put a lot of effort (and money) in it :D

Yeah.....you might not have noticed.....but theyre kinda short on that right now....especially with BoA. The first one flopped so hard its hard not to sell more.

Just saw this post, how is it different from her previous work, and an even bigger question I have, how does anything on the album sound mature? I don't think anything on the album sounds particularly different than other stuff she has released. Quite a few of the songs reminded me of songs from her Korean albums, only more boring. Well, I guess I could see "LAZER" being a little different for a BoA song, but that's it.

Well, I guess I could see "LAZER" being a little different for a BoA song, but that's it.

IDENTITY is different from BoA's previous albums because for the first time she is significantly involved with the production. BoA is credited as co-producer for the album and out of 11 songs, she has made substantial contributions to 6 of them (lyrics and music for 4; lyrics for 2).

And, to me, the album sounds mature because of the decisions made to place emphasis on the lyrics. The "boring" production of the melodies and arrangements has the effect of drawing attention to the lyrics and what they have to say.

With the album being titled "IDENTITY" and BoA as co-producer I think it's safe to assume that the focus of the album is herself and not some loose concept, therefore she wants her message to be understood. If a song is overproduced, it could distract the listener and the message has a greater chance of being lost or diluted.

I think people who don't understand the Japanese language are at a disadvantage when listening to this album because they're only getting half the message. It was only after I started searching out translations of the lyrics that I felt I understood what BoA was trying to do.

Great news here.....and some bad....

The Good

Quote:

S.M. confirms BoA's return to Korea Comeback for August

[JES Lee Donghyun] After 5 years singer BoA is preparing for her comeback project for her home country.

BoA is currently planning to release an album and begin active promotions in Korea on August 25th, her 10th anniversary since her debut. BoA, who has concentrated on her Japanese activities and then on her entrance into the American market after her 5th album “Girls On Top” in 2005, is meeting her 10th anniversary with a striking Korean comeback. BoA released her 7th Japanese album “Identity” last February and is now on a nationwide Japanese tour. It is planned that she will enter into preparations for her Korean comeback after she finishes with her tour.

A high ranking representative from BoA’s agency SM Entertainment revealed on the 1st, “2010 is a meaningful year because it is BoA’s 10th anniversary since her debut. After “Girls On Top” she hasn’t had the opportunity to meet with her Korean fans and so we have agreed to create an album with as much meaning as those 5 years.” Also, “We are currently planning to release the album on August 25th, which has a symbolic meaning in that it is her debut date, but the date is liable to change a bit depending on the pace of the album preparation.”

BoA released her 7th Japanese album “Identity” in Korea last February 18th. BoA showed her personal musical colors through “Identity” by taking part in producing for the first time. There is interest being garnered about whether she will produce her Korean album to be released in August. SM said “Because BoA has a high interest in music that will show her personal self, there is a high chance of her taking part as a producer. We will come to a decision after discussing many things.”
and....The Bad:

Quote:

There is also interest in whether BoA will continue her American activities. In 2009 BoA released her debut American single “Eat You Up” and then her self-titled debut album “BoA” and began her American entrance. It is being predicted that due to her Japanese and Korean activities she will take a break from her American activities in 2010. To this SM expressed, “Her American activities will continue. Currently Producer Lee Soo Man is overseeing the whole of her American activities in the US.”

jean-baptiste 1st March 2010 03:49 AM

^wait, how is it bad? isn't it saying that she will hold off on American activities or am I wrong? i thought that was a good thing.

thanks for the news!

Polyrhythm 1st March 2010 03:51 AM

Um yeah....her last US flop indirectly lead to the flop known as IDENTITY....they spent too much on the US thing and made almost nothing from it. BoA had to pay for the IDENTITY's production herself. And it's kinda pointless for her to be attempting the US market any more...she has such a huge market in Asia....it's just a waste of money, time, and effort.

freedreamer 1st March 2010 04:49 AM

gosh this is soo spooky! We were just talking about it and BoA's coming back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And she's gonna produce...i don't know what to expect now :S
But Im so pumped!!!!!!!

zyoeru 1st March 2010 04:53 AM

If she produces it then it better be better than IDENTITY.

Polyrhythm 1st March 2010 05:05 AM

With all the generic Kpop crap filling the Kpop market....I wonder if BoA can shine with her own personal style....maybe it didn't work for IDENTITY...but maybe IDENTITY was just a test of her abilities...I hope she perfects her production skills for her Korean album...after all...it's her first comback in Korea in more than 5 years....and it's also her 10th anniversary....yeah. It's kinda important.

mcluva420 1st March 2010 05:12 AM

I really hope that her upcoming Korean music won't be cheap..at all :shakehead

I have been waiting so long for a Korean album from BoA...she really shines, I remember Girls on Top blew me away. =]

I just hope they don't go the cheap route and re-do her American/Japanese songs into Korean...I wouldn't mind a few but if half+ the album is remakes I'll be not too impressed.

YESSSSSSSSSSS
SHE'S COMING BACK TO KOREA?
YES YES YES. FINALLY. I hope it's true and not BS. I remember over these past few years there have been reports of her having a comeback in korea but it never happened. Her comeback would be huge, even a lot of her Korean fans loved the IDENTITY album lol

elepop 1st March 2010 04:12 PM

You guys don't have to be worried about her Korean comeback being "cheap". Knowing that she's one of Korea's biggest stars and the fact that she's FINALLY coming back to Korea after a big 5 years and marking her 10th anniversary, of course it's going to be huge! Besides, BoA has only gotten stellar material in Korea. Unlike her Japanese and US releases.

TITANIC 1st March 2010 04:27 PM

I think she should stop her carrier in japan and continue to her origin Korea. too many singers debuted in japan. thats kinda annoying
and after couple years she come back to japan again. that would be great

noisy_harmony 1st March 2010 04:40 PM

OMG THIS MADE MY DAY. I'M SO SHOCKED

...She really tries to make korean comeback? Man, it's been years. I'm so happy! Hope that new material will be good!
... To be honest, there's no doubt about 're-making' her popularity in Korea. I think if she's really returning, it'll be big hit.
August... You're gonna to be the awesome month, if it's true.

jbrat2219 1st March 2010 04:45 PM

It's about time! It's BoA's Korean music I fell in love with in the first place. I don't know why she stayed in Japan for so long xD;.

freedreamer 1st March 2010 04:56 PM

5 years. I think EASY would fit into the current kpop sound if she didnt sang it the way she did... o.o

It's a possibility due to the fact that Avex and SM aren't in good terms at all.

SM Confirms BoA’s Korean Comeback With a New Album
DannyTruong on Sunday, February 28, 2010 10:00PM

BoA is coming back! An S.M. representative has confirmed the star-studded queen of Asia will return to Korea for her 10th Anniversary with a new Album.

The summer might just be fading away, but in August, BoA is coming back to S. Korea to sizzle things up. For five long years the reigning champion of Asia has not released an album within her own home country. This is a very special time; Aug 25th, 2010 marks the 10th anniversary of BoA’s debut and is the year of the Tiger. BoA was born on the year of the Tiger and S.M. plans on making her 10th anniversary the big one.

A qualified S.M. Entertainment official had spoken about BoA’s return this year:

2010 is a meaningful year because it is BoA’s 10th anniversary since her debut. After “Girls On Top” she hasn’t had the opportunity to meet with her Korean fans and so we have agreed to create an album with as much meaning as those 5 years.” Also, “We are currently planning to release the album on August 25th, which has a symbolic meaning in that it is her debut date, but the date is liable to change a bit depending on the pace of the album preparation"

Fan reactions of BoA’s self-produced album, Identity came with many mixed reactions about BoA’s production skills. Nothing has been decided if she’ll continue to produce her anniversary album, however the representative stated the possibility is very high.

I guess BoA won’t be doing any rest following her Japanese tour, because she’ll be right back to work on her anniversary album. Although I’d prefer if BoA would take some time to rest before taking the world by storm, this is very exciting.

Cheers to the FIERCE-SOME BoA!

First Hyori and now BoA... Seriously this is an exciting year for k-pop lol

Thanks for the gallery link.. I love the Jumping into the World scans.. so cute

love in music 4th March 2010 05:25 PM

about 6 more months left.. it's going to be a long wait.. but it'll hopefully be worth it.
We'll be getting live performances left and right..and I can't even begin to imagine how amazing her comeback stage will be

hearted 4th March 2010 07:36 PM

I CANT FRIKKIN WAIT FOR HER COMEBACK ITS GONNA BE AS EPIC AS EPIC CAN GET

AyUta 5th March 2010 02:03 AM

I really want to see how this turns out. I'm rooting for her though :).

Polyrhythm 5th March 2010 02:52 AM

....What would be left of BoA if she flopped in Korea too? That would make 3 flops in a row.....lol....kinda a scary thought....Well...I have to imagine that the Korean fans are more hardcore than the other fans....After being in the US for one just one year, IDENTITY flopped in Japan. It will have been 5 years since BoA's last activity in Korea. Will the Korean fans be more forgiving? Will they want her back with all those idols around? I sure damn hope so...cause it's about time the K-pop industry gets to have BoA back over there...and for BoA's 10 years of hard work she deserves a successful 10th anniversary....this will be an interesting summer.

love in music 5th March 2010 04:05 AM

^ Korea still isn't over her and they still have tribute performances to her etc. I can't imagine her comeback not going over well.

Twinkle ! 5th March 2010 04:13 AM

I Don't think boa will flopped in Korea since IDENTITY is doing great in Korea and her English album did well so good material can make everything up :yes

Polyrhythm 5th March 2010 04:24 AM

^Neither release you mentioned can be considered "good material" but you do point out very well the fact that Korean fans are still hardcore no matter what kind of crap she puts out. My fear is that when she finally has a good release, will they abandon her? I doubt it myself but it is a Possibility. BoA's Korean stuff is still the only Korean music I can stomach and I hope she continues putting out good Korean music (although no more Girls On Top-like albums please). This is a time in her career where fan support is really needed, so I hope her Korean fans can come through for her. That and for the album to be good.
