is "dolls" the full unremixed version of "starting over"?

i just realized this listening to both songs! has this been discussed before??

i made this to help you guys listen! i combined starting over and dolls chorus!

Pieces_of_SEVEN 30th March 2010 03:52 AM

...what are you smoking? o.O

primavera♥ 30th March 2010 03:54 AM

???? starting over? really?
they seem quite different.
did i miss something? *so confuzzled*

rainydayumi 30th March 2010 03:54 AM

the "lalala" in starting over is the same with the beginning of the chorus in "dolls"! starting over is just in a lower key!

primavera♥ 30th March 2010 03:55 AM

arent they in different time sigs too?

rainydayumi 30th March 2010 03:59 AM

if its a remixed version then its natural to have different tempos..

primavera♥ 30th March 2010 04:01 AM

tempo is different from time signature, hun

rainydayumi 30th March 2010 04:04 AM

then you can explain it to me rather than being rude?

primavera♥ 30th March 2010 04:16 AM

okay here. im so sorry if i hurt your feelings. never take anything i say as being rude. . . .as now im offended

tempo is speed

time signature for dolls sounds like 6/8 (someone correct me) and for starting over typical 4/4 time. 4/4 time means four beats in one bar. 6/8 is 6 eighth notes in one bar.

its a major difference. also thats why the melodies sound quite different

you would have to explain to me how you came up with your assumption a little more clearly as its very uh unusual i think (for lack of better words)

rainydayumi 30th March 2010 04:22 AM

thank you for explaining to me! :D im sorry too.

i got the similarity from the melodies of the "la la la" in starting over and the melodies of the beginning of the chorus in dolls. it sounded like dolls was an extension of whatever idea she was using for starting over. :D

primavera♥ 30th March 2010 04:27 AM

hmmm. ok i see. (sorry i sound so condescending i guess sometimes) *hits self* bad girl

but i must agree to disagree sadly :(

they dont sound like the same rhythm to me but i guess is need a score

rainydayumi 30th March 2010 04:37 AM

rainydayumi 30th March 2010 06:46 AM

nothing? really? hmm i think ill have to wait for someone smarter :P

chocopockymaster 30th March 2010 07:04 AM

You have a knack for hearing similarities between songs where they definitely do not exist.

y_nathz 30th March 2010 07:16 AM

I don't think so..

Maybe YOUR hearing needs to be checked considering you're the only one who thinks they sound anything alike... :shakehead

No one's arguing here, I'm just stating a fact: for some reason you hear similarities between pieces of music that don't exist. :no

JackieRos 30th March 2010 03:08 PM

I listened to the one you made so many times thatI actually hear a connection

A melody can easily be transcribed from 6/8 to 4/4. If not, it would've been impossible to have trance remixes of these song. I think almost all of ayu's trance/dance remixes are in 4/4 with the exception of Never Ever on ayu-ro II (which is quite strange to listen to!!!, but very interesting).

In addition sometimes the 6/8 is more of a rythm and as long as the the bars/musical phrases are following structure of 4 x 6/8, depending on the tempo of the melody, whether the songs is transcribed in 4/4s with triols or 6/8 could be abitral. :headache Sorry for being so unclear, but it's been a while since I did music theory and I didn't do it in english.

A score wouldn't really clear things up IMO, most pop songs use the same type of harmonies and even a lot of the same melodic phrases/passages without being remixes.

Despite the technical possibilities of making such a remix, I can't hear any similarities between the songs in the clip you posted.

Delirium-Zer0 30th March 2010 04:22 PM

I can hear the "la la la" melody in starting over being used again in "Dolls", but it is a VERY common and very simple melody. This would be like saying Do As Infinity's "Heart" is another "version" of Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive." One tiny bit of melody being moved from one song to another doesn't make one a version of the other.

I can hear the similarity, but I don't think it's a meaningful one.

This is an online forum. I'm allowed to reply to whoever I want. If it wasn't anyone else's business, you should have PM'd your "argument" to whoever you were "arguing" with. Please don't call me a drama queen and be so needlessly hostile when you're the one starting all the so called "drama". :)

take your own advice, hypocrite :lech

Keiichi_JPU 30th March 2010 11:07 PM

@Paparatzi: Don't take it personally when people disagree with you. They just don't think it sounds similar, they're not personally attacking you :) Don't worry about it!

To be honest I don't hear the similarity either. Starting Over is all drumsy with a beat, and dolls is like, a ballad without drums, also much slower.

rainydayumi 30th March 2010 11:16 PM

you can disasgree by saying "no", not call me delusional?

also i didntsay that they are the same songs, please read the entire thread. :no

Delirium-Zer0 30th March 2010 11:21 PM

Your title DOES say "is dolls the full unremixed version of starting over" which DOES imply that you thought they might be the same song... ^^;;

lawl at the bickering.
I don't think they sound similar... if you do that's fine :D I also think Kuu's Without Your Love sounds like Beyonce's Crazy in Love but no one else thinks so XD
