ayumi hamasaki COUNTDOWN LIVE 2019-2020 ~Promised Land~ https://avex.jp/upload/emoji/2.gif?1573493192.039814

Ayu's coming home to Yoyogi!

As to how much meaning these words carry, for the people standing on the stage, or the people gathered here with their eyes locked on that stage, even among ayumi hamasaki's long life as a musician, "today" is a day that has to be a night that has never been seen before. It opened up with that sort of extraordinary anticipation.
For just one night, so that Ayumi Hamasaki can continue to be herself, a set list was put together with songs singled out from her enormous discography, and there were numerous precisely calculated performances that should bring out their true meaning.
All the more for fans who have experienced on many occasions the unexpected moments of synchronization when ayumi hamasaki is up on stage, "ayumi hamasaki" still has not changed since her debut, and yet there was an "ayumi hamasaki" that no one has seen before.
That is what her fans will witness.

Performance date: 2019.12.31
Time: Door open 20:30 / Start 22:30
Venue: Yoyogi National Gymnasium
Live broadcast: TV-Asahi https://www.tv-asahi.co.jp/ch/contents/variety/0405/

ExodusUK 22nd July 2019 11:33 PM

Please be a new standalone show.

I wonder why she dropped the shows before NYE.

JEWELian 23rd July 2019 02:02 AM

probably unsure about being able to sell out? they might add shows depending upon fan interest for this one.

i'm thinking of going, but the idea of going for *just one* show is putting me off a bit.

tokyoxjapanxfan 23rd July 2019 04:30 AM

I would love for this to be just a cdl and not a continuation of anything.

Just make it a fun return to form...

Bigtop 23rd July 2019 06:00 AM

In Yoyogi? How's the renovation in Yoyogi going so far? And it's still July...

Aderianu 23rd July 2019 08:09 AM

Someone mentioned that Buck-Tick will hold live at Yoyogi on 29th December. So probably on 30th ayu's team will place new decorations and prepare venue for her show.

That would be great. It’s probably not cost effective though. Especially because it’s only one show.

JEWELian 23rd July 2019 11:21 PM

^from ticket sales no, but when you consider the money they'll make from having the show broadcast, potential DVD release, and of course all the merchandising.

Merchandising, yeap. She herself said she makes most of her money from selling tour goodies nowadays.

DVD sales, show broadcast? Those are most likely there to please fans than to make money. I'm pretty positive her DVD sales mean pretty much money loss nowadays.

If it's true, the show will be underrehearsed in real conditions. She used to rehearse almost all day and night long one day prior to the first show. She doesn't seem to have such luxury in this case. She might end up rehearsing all day long on 12.31 and be exhausted during the actual show.

~angel*ayumi~ 24th July 2019 04:14 PM

Ah I messed it up, they are in Yoyogi at 30th January ><

Lord B. 26th July 2019 07:11 PM

I wonder when they will announce the lottery so we can plan!

metropass 26th July 2019 09:12 PM

Probably most of the performances and materials in this CDL will be reused in TROUBLE TOUR 2020, like what she reuses stuffs from POA3 in recent tour.

They probably fear not being able to fill up Yoyogi. POM18 and POA3 in Saitama Super Arena was full, but they had to close off the upper 400-500 level

Isn't this the 20th anniversary of CDL, right? Shame Ayu/Avex doesn't feel like celebrating her landmarks at all in recent years.

Agreed. Who knows if they’ll even release a dvd of this countdown live...they didn’t for the last couple CDL/Tours which means dvd sales are probably not much of a moneymaker if at all anymore. It’s now down to merch and ticket sales if Avex wants to make money off the tours.

The first CDL was 2000-2001, so no it isn´t the 20th Anniversary

2017-2018 there was no CDL
She had a concert on that day from JTB Tour but it was no CDL, it was normal concert

thinkingoutloud89 29th July 2019 11:20 AM

^there is a difference between 20th Anniversary and the 20th CDL. Skipping a year does not mean it wasn't 20 years ago that the first CDL was held.

Party_King 29th July 2019 11:56 AM

^ but her 10th and 20th Anniversary were on 8.4.2008 and 8.4.2018. Her first Single was released on 8.4.1998...
So, her first CDL was 2000-2001 and CDL‘s 20th Anniversary will be 2020-2021.
BTW they also didn‘t celebrate the 10th Anniversary of CDL (2010-2011).

thinkingoutloud89 29th July 2019 12:10 PM

Random but this discussion about 20th CDL or 20th anniversary of CDL somehow reminds me how the word “anniversary” was used for the celebration of Name Amuro's 500th concert...

AJFmzk 29th July 2019 07:16 PM

I don’t remember them acknowledging Namie’s 10th or 15th anniversary, so all of this anniversary stuff is probably more a marketing thing than being associated with a solid date or numerical anniversary. Eg Ayu’s 20th anniversary lasted 2.5 years

why? you count the first one as the first year. so its exactly 20 years of CDL.
20 is a weird number for an anniversary anyways.

No, you don’t. It’s the same with your age. You don’t count the actual day of your birth as your 1st birthday/anniversary.
With you idea of anniversaries, ayu‘s 10th anniversary would’ve been on April, 8th 2007 (or her 20th on April, 8th 2017).

One of my marketing teachers said that the easiest way to create a campaign was to make up any anniversary to celebrate :P

no its not. "Bauhaus" celebrated 100 years this year, opening in 1919 up until 2019.
Same goes for Ayu herself. A COMPLETE was her 10th Anni Celebration, released in 2018, 10 years after her debut in 1998.

No, that 500th concert celebration was during FEEL TOUR 2013 which should be her 21st anniversary. But they wrote “500th Live Anniversary” on the colour tape and the tracklist of DVD. I wonder if her team misused the word “Anniversary”...

AJFmzk 30th July 2019 07:08 PM

^correct. 500 shows is more an accomplishment than an anniversary. As far as I remember, Avex did not acknowledge any Namie anniversaries (in the real meaning of the word) until 2012, her 20th anniversary. Contrast to Ayu, who celebrated 10, 15, 20 and 21 year anniversary.

I really enjoyed the show. My only criticism is that the build-up didn’t quite meet the expectation, but I think that was more a case of her building it up to be this huge thing and then having to deal with budget restrictions. Her voice on that day wasn’t amazing, but it also wasn’t terrible so I’m considering that a win.

kaled kalil 30th July 2019 08:55 PM

@thinkingoutloud89 You do understand that the first CDL was 2000.12.31 and not 1999.12.31, right? As the title: CDL 2000-2001. It was not in 1999, so its 20th anniversary wouldn't be in 2019.

Anyway. I think it should be celebrated, it's quite a milestone. I know few artists who does CDLs, but not for almost 20 years with no stop. Specially since the year which didn't had the countdown, she was still performing on that day. Another PCDL would be awesome.

Funny enough her 10th anniversary was a huge meltdown over here because the popular opinion was that she wasn't doing enough.

"How come this release doesn't come with a lock of her hair?! It's her 10th anniversary for God's sake!"

I thought the 10th anniversary was one of the best era's of her whole career.:laugh
I thought she gave us so much. The 15th anniversary was pretty good too but the editing of A Best live made me disappointed. The 20th and 21st anniversaries are just too messy for me.
I actually wasn't expecting her to do any anniversary stuff for CDL.:think

It's a cultural thing. Here in Brazil, 25 years isn't something special. 10th, 15th (!), 20th and 30th anniversary (carreer-wise) are more relevant. In terms of age, too. And our legal age of adulthood is 18, so that's more relevant than 20 or 25 here.

Andrenekoi 1st August 2019 07:31 PM

She tends to celebrate her career every 5 years. But considering her 20th anniversary is going since 2017, I hope she doesn't do anything for the 25th.

splitting hairs, but this year's is actually the 20th CDL she has/will have done (including that NYE but non-countdown show in 2017). so you could call it the "20th anniversary". but an anniversary for CDL sounds pointless, because it really only means something to loyal fans.

kaled kalil 3rd August 2019 03:52 PM

But it's not the anniversary: 20th CDL =/= 20th Anniversary.

As said before you don't count the day you're born as the first year, there still 12 months for you to have your first birthday/anniversary/whatever you wanna call it.

You can call it her 20th CDL, which it is not because in 2017 it was a non-countdown performance, but whatever.

---

Btw, 25 years in showbiz in Brazil is relevant. Do a quick search as '25 anos de carreira' and you will see there are plenty of singers/artists who celebrates with releases. Ivete, Joelma, Latino and so on. Not that I care, but saying that it isn't special is just misleading.

The place I would say that those things aren't important is in the US. I don't remember any female singer doing anything that special after 10 years, and even so it seems it's not a big deal.

^It's not unnusual to re-release famous albums in the USA during their 25th anniversary.

In the end, it all depends on what the artist is trying to sell at the moment and how the date can be used as an excuse to promote it

What's this lottery, you're talking about?

And am I the only one left in this forum who can't go to the concerts? :laugh So jealous

pedronekoi 18th September 2019 05:33 PM

Ugh wasn’t October the CDL ticketing period last year? I can’t get myself to call anyone bebo Julian. I also hope it’s sooner because Nemanja is very lazy when it comes to purchasing plane tickets and this would make him do it sooner.

What if you don't win the lottery? The competition will be tough this time. Are you willing to pay extra to get your ticket? I remember that on the day of the final show in 2016 the resellers in front of the arena didn't want to reduce their ridiculous prices even minutes before the show's start. They did have a limited amount of additional tickets on sale on the day of the concert in Yoyogi though (official sales with a regular price), so some people managed to get them before the show became completely sold out.

tokyoxjapanxfan 24th September 2019 04:36 AM

I know that if I don’t win tickets through the lottery, I won’t be going lol.

TeamAyu2004 28th September 2019 06:25 AM

I dont have access to the lottery so the only way I can buy is through resellers or pia

I see. I hope you get lucky and don't have to spend a lot of extra money to get your ticket.

JEWELian and I will both apply and hopefully one of us will win the tickets. I remember last year being such a mess for getting the tickets, but it was a small venue compared to Yoyogi.

Still not officially announce? I'm seeing when to fly over Japan for this.
yet, no idea how to get ticket. maybe just from auction house again >.>

ulfy01 25th October 2019 10:25 AM

It has to be soon. Ayu posted on TA a bit earlier today about CDL and how they will be starting rehearsals soon. Also something about information coming out next week, what that information could be I'm not sure.

Join TA.

Also she mentions that the CDL will be very different than the tour that follows and that she has had some wild ideas...

krtman2002 25th October 2019 11:47 PM

God I need an album already... I want a different tour as well. Maybe she gives us something different for the next CDL but seriously, the need of new music is urgent.

Party_King 26th October 2019 12:07 AM

She has only had 1 during the 22 years of her career. It had also grown on me a lot.

Sorry, if that turned out to be harsh...
I didn’t wanted to say that she had much of this before, but that I don’t want this style for new releases... it’s by far my most disliked track in her whole discography...

Evan Odinson 26th October 2019 04:12 AM

^Really? Mine is still Angel's song lol

Party_King 26th October 2019 04:22 AM

^ yes. I hate it.

*cought* The Gift *cought*

Party_King 26th October 2019 11:32 AM

^ oh true! I totally forget this mess everytime! :D
But æternal is still my least favorite song.
I would also consider The GIFT and LOVE ~Destiny~ into my top three most disliked tracks...

I never listen to Close to you and Winter Diary. Everything else I either love, like or can listen to without skipping. I do need to be in a special mood for some songs like Greatful days.

Xianghua 26th October 2019 03:04 PM

I too forget The Gift’s existence.
