Whatever, I just hope they properly handle her 25th as least as good as they did with her 10th. Bring the damn a best 3 already.

No, that 500th concert celebration was during FEEL TOUR 2013 which should be her 21st anniversary. But they wrote “500th Live Anniversary” on the colour tape and the tracklist of DVD. I wonder if her team misused the word “Anniversary”...

AJFmzk 30th July 2019 07:08 PM

^correct. 500 shows is more an accomplishment than an anniversary. As far as I remember, Avex did not acknowledge any Namie anniversaries (in the real meaning of the word) until 2012, her 20th anniversary. Contrast to Ayu, who celebrated 10, 15, 20 and 21 year anniversary.

I really enjoyed the show. My only criticism is that the build-up didn’t quite meet the expectation, but I think that was more a case of her building it up to be this huge thing and then having to deal with budget restrictions. Her voice on that day wasn’t amazing, but it also wasn’t terrible so I’m considering that a win.

@thinkingoutloud89 You do understand that the first CDL was 2000.12.31 and not 1999.12.31, right? As the title: CDL 2000-2001. It was not in 1999, so its 20th anniversary wouldn't be in 2019.

Anyway. I think it should be celebrated, it's quite a milestone. I know few artists who does CDLs, but not for almost 20 years with no stop. Specially since the year which didn't had the countdown, she was still performing on that day. Another PCDL would be awesome.

no its not. "Bauhaus" celebrated 100 years this year, opening in 1919 up until 2019.
Same goes for Ayu herself. A COMPLETE was her 10th Anni Celebration, released in 2018, 10 years after her debut in 1998.

Yes, so CDL 20-21 would be 20 years after CDL 00-01.
This is what I’ve said all the time. ;)
Your idea was that CDL 19-20 would be the 20th anniversary of it.

Funny enough her 10th anniversary was a huge meltdown over here because the popular opinion was that she wasn't doing enough.

"How come this release doesn't come with a lock of her hair?! It's her 10th anniversary for God's sake!"

EndOfTheWorld 31st July 2019 02:07 AM

I thought the 10th anniversary was one of the best era's of her whole career.:laugh
I thought she gave us so much. The 15th anniversary was pretty good too but the editing of A Best live made me disappointed. The 20th and 21st anniversaries are just too messy for me.
I actually wasn't expecting her to do any anniversary stuff for CDL.:think

DVD sales, show broadcast? Those are most likely there to please fans than to make money. I'm pretty positive her DVD sales mean pretty much money loss nowadays.

Where was it she said that? Not that I disbelieve it, as that’s the case for many pop stars, but because it’s the kind of candor we usually don’t see, I’d love to see the context.

I though it was during one of her TV appearences back in 2017, but it wasn't... Did she had any other more recent interview or I'm totally remembering that wrong and she never said that at all?

Tbh I don’t think she would have said that...

Katsuyuki012 1st August 2019 06:13 AM

I do remember her saying it, as well.

EndOfTheWorld 1st August 2019 09:11 AM

I remember other fans saying that but I don't remember if she said that herself.:think

hud 1st August 2019 03:53 PM

I remember someone saying it was staff at one show that said that. one of these whom were wearing that shirt with unannounced dates of PoM

It's a cultural thing. Here in Brazil, 25 years isn't something special. 10th, 15th (!), 20th and 30th anniversary (carreer-wise) are more relevant. In terms of age, too. And our legal age of adulthood is 18, so that's more relevant than 20 or 25 here.

Andrenekoi 1st August 2019 07:31 PM

She tends to celebrate her career every 5 years. But considering her 20th anniversary is going since 2017, I hope she doesn't do anything for the 25th.

splitting hairs, but this year's is actually the 20th CDL she has/will have done (including that NYE but non-countdown show in 2017). so you could call it the "20th anniversary". but an anniversary for CDL sounds pointless, because it really only means something to loyal fans.

kaled kalil 3rd August 2019 03:52 PM

But it's not the anniversary: 20th CDL =/= 20th Anniversary.

As said before you don't count the day you're born as the first year, there still 12 months for you to have your first birthday/anniversary/whatever you wanna call it.

You can call it her 20th CDL, which it is not because in 2017 it was a non-countdown performance, but whatever.

---

Btw, 25 years in showbiz in Brazil is relevant. Do a quick search as '25 anos de carreira' and you will see there are plenty of singers/artists who celebrates with releases. Ivete, Joelma, Latino and so on. Not that I care, but saying that it isn't special is just misleading.

The place I would say that those things aren't important is in the US. I don't remember any female singer doing anything that special after 10 years, and even so it seems it's not a big deal.

^It's not unnusual to re-release famous albums in the USA during their 25th anniversary.

In the end, it all depends on what the artist is trying to sell at the moment and how the date can be used as an excuse to promote it

njanjayrp 4th August 2019 06:19 AM

I wish she’d end up calling it a Premium CDL and do a longer show~

mi|kshake 11th August 2019 09:47 PM

I was thinking I really hope the band are back for the CDL!
