ʕ•̫͡•ʔ ABOUT HIKKI
Spoiler:

Utada Hikaru (宇多田ヒカル) is a Japanese pop singer-songwriter under the Emi Music Japan label. Utada is one of Japan's most successful artists of all time. Her debut album First Love is the #1 best selling album in Asian music history with over 7.65 million copies sold in Japan alone. In total she has sold over 38,000,000 million records in Japan, and 3 of her albums are in the Top 10 best-selling albums of all time in Japan (#1, #4, #8), making her one of the most successful and popular singers in J-pop history. Utada is bilingual as she was raised in both New York and Tokyo. She is also known in the west under her English language project name 'Utada', most famous for singing the Kingdom Hearts theme song, "Hikari / Simple And Clean" and the Kingdom Hearts II theme song, "Passion / Sanctuary". Initially, Utada's music had a heavy R&B style to it, but later her music progressed to a more pop / experimental tone. Her distinct R&B sound brought her much attention with her first release in Japan, "Automatic / time will tell". Utada was married to director Kiriya Kazuaki, who directed the movie CASSHERN, but in March 2007 the couple split.

On August 9, 2010, Utada announced plans to go on indefinite hiatus following the release of "Utada Hikaru SINGLE COLLECTION VOL.2", her second compilation album. On November 24, 2010, "Utada Hikaru SINGLE COLLECTION VOL.2" was released. It debuted atop the Oricon charts once again. It has also been anounced that Utada has severed ties with Island Def Jam, who releases her English language works. She has secured a global contract with EMI Music. Upon returning from her hiatus, all her future releases will be under the name Utada Hikaru regardless of the country of release.

Utada Hikaru has been deemed the Most Influential Japanese Artist of the past decade (2000-2010) by Japan Times.

ʕ•̫͡•ʔ NEWS
Spoiler:

Hikki got married on May 24, 2014!

[2014/02/10] A message to my fans in Italy, and members of the Italian press (and other curious people)

Due to the unexpected intensity of media attention in Italy regarding our upcoming marriage, please allow my fiancé and I to express some of our feelings in our own words.

A message to my fans in Italy, and members of the Italian press (and other curious people)

I never thought that the news of my marriage with an Italian guy "normale" would be met with so much excitement in Italy.

To me, my fiance is just "my man" and for him I am just "his woman." Many journalists have been asking how we met. The truth is quite boring---we met through a mutual friend. He is younger than me but in some ways more mature. I was drawn to his courage and his values regarding family, friends, work, life, love---and when I met his family, I saw where it all comes from.

I am touched and excited by the warm reception of so many people in Italy… but I must implore you to respect the privacy of my fiance and his family. Being the target of public attention can be very stressful and scary, and it would sadden me greatly to see my new family under duress or in danger because of me.

I heard rumors about some fans possibly organizing a bus tour to the location of our wedding. I have always been grateful for the support of my fans who remain loyal to me, and it is truly amazing to feel the excitement you share with me, and so it pains me to have to say this, but please understand that a wedding is not a show. I hope we can meet one day under more appropriate circumstances.

We would like to share our wedding photos with you all. I hope this will help to alleviate any potential chaos on the day of the wedding.

Thank you.

Hikaru Utada

--------------------------------------

Hello Everybody!

As you probably already know, I am Hikaru’s fiancé and I work as a bartender in a London hotel.

It’s a decent job that gives me a decent life, just like anybody else. I come from a modest family background: honest folk, loved and respected by the people in my home town and who taught me what honesty, love, sacrifice and work all mean. They never let me want for anything and above all, showed me how to face life with optimism and courage.

I guess it must seem strange to think that a suburban guy like me, doing a normal job, gets together with a superstar like Hikaru. Indeed, when it all started, even I found it difficult to believe.

Well our roads crossed and as time went by we got to know each other and found that we had loads of things in common, among which, and most relevant, our deep and reciprocal love.
To be honest, when I left my beloved home town in Puglia in an attempt to create a future in London, I never imagined that I would be where I am today, but if the Lord has made this decision, so be it. I trust in Him.

I introduce myself to you, fans and press, with these few words, and especially to all Italians, the people I am so proud of, and I ask you all to offer support and respect to the lady who is to be my future wife, also to Mr. Teruzane who will become my second dad and, last but not least, to my family.

Thank you all for your understanding.

With my very best wishes

SO I just discovered this new rap artist named KOHH, and I was listening to his album, which I really like, and came across a track called My Last Heart Break, which samples hikki's sakura drops in a REALLY AWESOME way. Check the song out here:

CoriKaru 12th June 2015 09:08 PM

^ I like that. Notice they are also doing a take on Utada's "Goodbye Happiness" Music Video as well.

I like it that thugs be over there repping Utada, lol. Let me find out Tiddy Bear Girl got Street Cred.

Although..........marijuana is dangerous over in Japan. Hope they're Olay.

mi|kshake 12th June 2015 09:26 PM

Thanks for posting that PV! Sakura Drops is my favourite song of all time and it's great to hear it sampled! I love it when songs are sampled in a non-obvious way!

hayasaki 12th June 2015 09:47 PM

Oh thank goodness someone dared to create a thread! LOOOOL Anyway, I've always been wonderin' if is anyone here knows where I can watch/download HD versions of Hikki's
music videos? Her vevo/youtube account doesn't have HD versions :(

Delicious n Bold 12th June 2015 10:03 PM

Another year another period of time without new music from this trick.

I can only listen to HS so many times.

this this this.

I love you hikki, but ugh, I need new music. Even the cover album didn't hold my interest as long as I thought it would, and I can only listen to Sakura nagashi so many times before I start skipping it on my ipod.

I was actually going to make a new thread. I was even trying to make it look nice by listing her discography in a "graphic design" type of way and designing everything, but then I thought to myself, what's the point? Who cares really? Someone else can make the thread. Why put all this effort into something when you can just start a new thread that takes two seconds to copy and paste stuff from wiki and it would be just as good? lol I gave up.

chocopockymaster 12th June 2015 11:11 PM

^ that's wicked cool tho

save it for next time

(which will be like a decade from now unless she gets off her ass and releases something)

CoriKaru 12th June 2015 11:47 PM

I wonder if her husband still works. :|

Your post made me realize that I know absolutely nothing about her husband. What does he do exactly?

CoriKaru 12th June 2015 11:54 PM

He's some Bartender in France. That's how they met. I imagine Utada isn't taking all this time off to be by herself. Especially since if this thing works out, her husband will never have to work another day in his life. :|

chocopockymaster 13th June 2015 12:03 AM

I thought they met in London?

NintendoHTF1242 13th June 2015 12:21 AM

That music video was wild... lol I didn't know Japanese rappers were so explicit. So... Uh... What do we even talk about? lol. We're not getting any music news till closer to the end of the year I assume.

Gotta hand it to Hikki though, we're still able to fill up threads even though her release schedule has been dryer than Yuna Ito's career. You go girl!

Could be. Don't quote me. France just came out so I trusted it.

I hope the end of the year is when we get a new album, not when we get news about a new album. I want to find out by the end of summer/beginning of autumn that we're getting an album soon, not wait until December to find out that we're getting a new album in March or something. That'd suck.

CoriKaru 13th June 2015 01:14 AM

Gotta get the singles first.

orangeakira 13th June 2015 01:30 AM

^Oh yeah I forgot about that.

Well then..

I hope by December we get our first (Second if Sakura Nagashi counts) single for her then upcoming new album.

Let's start talking about our favorites singles, our favorite lyrics, which one is the best album, what's the worst one, how do we interpret her lyrics, talk about her secret lyrics in the songs...

I'm taking anything. If she posts something on her blog about her taking surf classes or baking cakes for charity, I'm in. It feels like she's dead

hayasaki 13th June 2015 03:24 AM

I hope she'll put out a new full album on iTunes with 12-15 brand new tracks without any announcement! gawd i'll die and reincarnated at once.

Zahara 13th June 2015 06:16 AM

I need Boku wa Kuma pt 2

orangeakira 15th June 2015 08:42 AM

Well, this was the most pain staking thing to do ever. I guess, I'm ready to start the next thread whenever we get this one filled up. Which will probably take a year.

I might do dvds/concerts if I really feel like it. And it's not like she has many.
