Mannie. A mediocre softcore porn model.

Tyson. Some American frat boy doctor.

Maro. Eating grass.

Yeah...honestly, since Nagase it's felt like she is throwing herself into relationships on blind hope or something. It's kind of felt like running honestly. And maybe she soon realized that no, the grass isn't always greener and maybe she hasn't gotten that same feeling back with any of them that she had with him.

君との思い出なんて消えてしまえばいい
なんて思ったこと何でなの一度もないまま
時間だけ通り過ぎるよ二人を追い越すように
My interpretation for this bit:

“It would be nice were those memories with you to go and disappear...
Why is it that I still have never thought such a thing.
Only time moves on, overtaking the two of us.”

I’ve studied Japanese 4 years but the second sentence is still a bit unclear. I take なんて as referring to the former sentence, 思ったこと as “having thought” 何でなの as why (this the confusing bit because for me to confidently interpret it as why it shoulda be なんで not 何で and then the なの is confusing because it’s not clear if の is being used as a modifier of 一度 which doesn’t make sense to me, or if it I should the ending of a sentence), and 一度もない “not even one time”, まま “still (having yet to move beyond that state)”.

But it would make more sense if it were written like this:
なんて思ったこと、なんでなの、一度もないまま

So that 何でなの is the interjection of a question.

Alternatively, remove the poetic structure and it could be written:

なんて思ったことは一度もないまま。(それは) なんでなの (だろうか((な))?

Given this interpretation, it conveys that time is the only thing moving forwardーayu herself has yet to begin to heal and break free of the sorrow.

Mannie was the only one who actually got a break up themed album and tour...

People are projecting their feelings on relationships we know close to nothing about.

freedreamer 27th July 2018 05:08 AM

LOL why do u guys automatically assume this is about HER love life (esp with Nagase). I mean, I feel like I read this unrequited/breakup summer love tale from her many times. Some lines really do hit my heart though

edit: i think this song is gonna be called aeternal

indigochild 27th July 2018 05:11 AM

I'm pretty sure a lot of us are just talking about this in jest. It's not to be taken that seriously.

mimika 27th July 2018 05:18 AM

while I ship Ayu and Nagase together, I don't think this song is necessarily about their relationship because this talking about "when we met we were childish and didn't treasure the past and now I regret it" kind of theme is SOOOOOO common in Ayu's music, I think it appears in almost EVERY album, literally

I also think Ayu have changed so much since that Nagase isn't suitable for her anymore

I wish something like my memories with you would end up disappearing
I'm little confused by this sentence. Can someone help with this?

Personally I would translate it like this:

"It would be alright if my memories with you and such would disappear"
Why is it that still not once such a thought existed
(Or if you want you can also use "came to me" or "occured to me" instead of the more literal "existed")

EndOfTheWorld 27th July 2018 06:37 AM

Perhaps it is Nagase on the album cover.:P
I feel like Ayu has similar love songs like this one so I am not entirely convinced this song is about him but it is a possibility. They were together for quite some time and perhaps she has been looking back these last 20 years.

Aderianu 27th July 2018 07:33 AM

As for "too childish" it may refers to Mannie. Their marriage wasn't adult decision

KittyKathy 27th July 2018 08:35 AM

I think it's because of this sentence: “I can't say a clear goodbye and I couldn't say thank you”. It's the same as in Together When… and that song is about Nagase. But maybe she used this sentence randomly.

njanjayrp 27th July 2018 08:42 AM

Was it ever confirmed Together When... was about Nagase? I thought it was about the friend who died, the untitled girl...

Uknow! 27th July 2018 09:08 AM

The song is about Max Matsuura, people.

Beautiful translation, I really like the lyrics, I thought it will be repetitive and nothing special but wow, I felt somewhere the old ayu, that child in the lyrics and it was very beautiful, I can't wait to listen the song, with the pass of the days I'm less dissapointed about TROUBLE and more excited, I think she had done a good job.

Maybe this is not a love song?? Now I can see how Ayu dedicate it to her friend

KittyKathy 27th July 2018 09:34 AM

I have no doubt that Together When… is about Nagase. Even in the music video there is a guy who looks the same as him.

I don't know Japanese, but I think you can't say ''aishiteru'' to a friend.
