Recent Forum Downtime

Hey guys!
As most of you are aware, AHS experienced significant downtime over the past few days. We are finally back on-line and we intend to make a more detailed post about this incident once we gather more information about what happened and why. From the looks of things, the domain name had expired and needed to be renewed. There is only one person who has ownership and control over the domain, and that's AHS's founder, Zef. Rest assured that we mods had no more idea of what was going on than the rest of AHS's users. We had been trying over the past few days to contact Zef so he could resolve this issue, as the mods have no power over the domain and forum administration. Once we know more information, we will share it here with you. Thanks for your patience, everyone!

UPDATE: We now have a social media thread with all of AHS's updated accounts so there will always be places to turn to for info/updates about any issues in the future. Thanks for the input, everyone!

douggn 6th October 2016 10:43 PM

I thought this was all resolved, it seems kind of odd, but the fact ahs is back online, does that mean Zef renewed the site?
If someone bought the domain name in those days we would be stuffed :P also with ayu knowing of ahs existence, it would be sad to loose it. AHS is kind of like the offical non offical fan site :P

koumori 6th October 2016 10:52 PM

The domain was not up for purchase like last time - it was 'parked', meaning it was pending payment or deletion. Zef has confirmed it was him who has sorted out the background issues this time and has ensured the domain is back online.

tokyoxjapanxfan 6th October 2016 11:43 PM

I'm so relieved!!! I thought 12 years of my life were gone with no prior notice :(

bluegie 7th October 2016 12:25 AM

I have the same feeling. almost 14 years (didn't register in 2002) being here almost every single day. Felt like my connection to young self and JPop world would be gone....

Bigtop 7th October 2016 12:57 AM

Phew, that was close. But this really made me think "this could happen any time soon", and it could again sometime...

I just hope AHS continues on forever and ever, but who knows...been almost TEN YEARS since I first came here. Ten years is quite a long time...

douggn 7th October 2016 02:12 AM

Its basically all falls down to Zef :P
As long as Zef cares for this site, I think it will continue :) since ownership will never change to the ones who look after the site now :P
Im sure memebers would fund the continuation of the website too :) but donations have always been turned away to help keep the site up, like when it went down last time

JackieRos 7th October 2016 02:47 AM

Not to offend anyone but not accepting donations is just crazy, what does zef say about donations? Do the mods help with the costs? I always thought that the mods had the
tittles because they contributed.

I understand about the concerns in accepting
donations but maybe just accepting like $1 or $2
could help.

I'm sorry if I offend anyone.

koumori 7th October 2016 02:56 AM

Finances have never been an issue, and the admins have never accepted donations - not from moderators, nor from members. Lack of funds is not the reason why the domain became unavailable as far as I am aware.
I can only imagine what a mess the forum would be if we allowed anyone who would donate to have moderation powers :laugh

Larisa-chan 7th October 2016 03:06 AM

I also thought that this site was going to be down forever and the withdrawal symptoms were REAL lol I didn't realize how used I was to visiting this site at least 1x/day since 2003 and it felt awful that I couldn't do so for the past few days loooooooool Glad things are back <3

Haha ohhh my, no way! We are not mods because we've given money!!

As Koumori said, Zef and admins have never accepted money from anyone, as that isn't the issue. (And Koumori - you are sooo right about that! :laugh)

EndOfTheWorld 7th October 2016 06:11 AM

It was so sudden! I was just greeted with a white blank page. I think maybe this site had finally died.:no
It looks like the website just had to be renewed is all. Pretty normal no?
As a suggestion, I think it would be good to have someone as backup for situations that involve the life of a website with a large amount of users. That way the future doesn't rest on one person.
But I don't know the owner or the higher ups on this site so I technically don't know what I am talking about.

freedreamer 7th October 2016 07:07 AM

Im so thankful and glad its back :D

aliceshields 7th October 2016 07:33 AM

Thou I fairly new to this forum, but I was sad and felt like something is missing from my life (checking and browsing AHS is part of my daily routine), I kept coming back to check the forum, even try to Googling in search of the answer. But now, she's back, and my life is back too! :love

That what I thought too, from the last time I thought it was this issue too about the domain name expired, and when it was all said to be fixed, now this daddy website said the domain had expired, so it just seemed really odd. I thought it was a hack onto AHS :P

koumori 7th October 2016 10:29 AM

GoDaddy is a legit internet domain registrar. :laugh

JackieRos 7th October 2016 01:08 PM

I thought that the mods had the tittle because
they also owned the domain not because they
donated, should have made myself more clearer.

I'm just glad is back.

AyuGAME 7th October 2016 04:27 PM

I feel really lost a few days ago..

Shocked when I see those GoDaddy page...

Like somebody else said it feel like the connection to your younger world is gone.

I come here since..I don't know high school??? Almost everyday..I registered at 2004 but far I have visited this site before that (that time AyuNite is probably more famous than AHS).

This is the last largest Ayumi Hamasaki community left..it will be sad if its gone...

aliceshields 7th October 2016 05:06 PM

I don't know... But I would say I will be totally lost if this community gone. I've been into Ayu since 2001 and this is the only forum in the past 15 years I found and I can't think of anything if this community is gone...

Surreal17 7th October 2016 07:03 PM

Wow, thank God this site is back! I'm also sharing the same feelings as you.

Bad Wolf 7th October 2016 11:55 PM

I'm glad it's back! I was so scared when it went offline, and I couldn't find any explanation elsewhere for its absence, which was quite worrying. Welcome back, AHS~

truehappiness 8th October 2016 12:01 AM

We probably should create a place to gather should something like this happen again. It was mentioned to create an Ayu chatroom (that may not necessarily be related to AHS) of some sort in Anything Goes and Discord does seem like a good idea since it has a web client as well. However, if that's a bit too much perhaps moderators communicating with us using the AHS Twitter would suffice?

AyuGAME 8th October 2016 02:11 AM

I'm also thinking about LINE group..but I'm not sure how many of AHS members have LINE...

Probably a facebook group? It will be easier to maintain but members probably don't want to share their personal facebook account.

aliceshields 8th October 2016 06:11 AM

Mod can consider: FB group / LINE group / WeChat group / Whatsapp group

From the other thread.
The moderators are currently discussing other social media possibilities for off-forum communication.

AyuGAME 9th October 2016 01:27 AM

Let's do LINE group...

rikku1994 9th October 2016 04:10 AM

So like, is it possible to have at least one more admin? One who's always online, like one of the mods idk.

DonkeyKongRemix 9th October 2016 06:14 PM

I'm just glad the problem could be fixed for now. :yes

I'm also glad to know how attached everyone else is to this forum...nice to know I'm not the only one. :love

kotora 10th October 2016 06:35 AM

I thought there was a mystery person renewed the domain last year called...

ayumi ...

AyuGAME 10th October 2016 08:43 AM

^Really???

koumori 10th October 2016 02:52 PM

An AHS user did manage to buy the domain last time, and gave it back to Zef a few months later. Her username was/is 'Ayumi' but she has no connection to Ayumi Hamasaki - I'll just clear that up right now :laugh

Minttulatte 10th October 2016 09:05 PM

Facebook already has two AHS groups tho. Why create other ones on LINE or somewhere else when there is already one? Fb group only needs to be properly activated so it stays alive.

JackieRos 11th October 2016 10:52 PM

^:yes I think that the Facebook group should be
added to the top links. I searched the forum
name on Facebook that's how I found the group.

koumori 14th October 2016 12:34 PM

As an update, here is our social media thread with all of AHS' current page links. Thanks all for your requests and support :)
