The lyrics give me the image of a girl who wants to live a life that's completely different from her dull parents. Maybe she wants to escape into showbusiness: the world of "eyes, smoke and magic"?

The lyrics are kind of humorous. I love how she's like "And today, for a change, he's eating nachos instead of popcorn" :laugh

They're like the total opposite feel to the song. I wonder if ill change my mind on it.

Well, basically Mamma and Papa's marriage fell apart. So she doesn't like to acknowledge that so she pretends it didn't happen. What she saw with her eyes and did not like, she pretended not to see or notice, imagined it was something else, like smoke, and magic, gone.

Seems like its a song about ignoring known problems. I think the reference to diamonds and roses symbolizes her unwillingness to fall into the same slump, sorta like, "Who needs love, when there's diamonds and roses?"

I think it was related to Eye make-up I believe...

Maybe the "Eyes, Smoke, Magic" is some kind of a magic spell? Or not really, how could I say it... :D The song is from a child's point of view whose family is unhappy. She's repeating the words to think of something else, happier things.
