As of June 2016, "Together When..." is highest selling single...?

According to https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Together_When..., as of June 2016, Ayumi's "Together When..." has topped 3.3 million in sales digitally, exceeding all physical and digital singles she's released. But the cited page, http://www.allmusic.com/artist/ayumi...8915/biography, doesn't actually reference this.

Does anyone know if this is the case? I'd be excited for Ayumi if this is true, but I think this seems a bit excessive in estimated sales?

From wikipedia:

The songs verification for 3.3 million downloads is referenced by AllMusic, a highly reliable source through the Western world. Despite the song being her highest selling single overall, it is not recognised through Oricon database as her highest selling single in Japan alone.Based on their ranking, Hamasaki's 1999 EP A is her highest selling single (1,630,540 sales) in the category (despite it being recognised as an EP), and "Seasons" is her highest selling single without any other additional recordings (1,367,000 sales).

Really? Together When...?
I would never have suspected that it was that successful. But I am glad if that is true since it is a personal favorite of mine.:heart

This is A SONG. I wish she would re-record it with new vocals as she was really struggling with her voice at the time.

WOW! I'm impressed! Love that song.

Well, I guess we now have to wonder how many tens of millions in sales we have never known about because Oricon doesn't count it in their ranking...?

I know Ayumi is the only Asian singer to make Forbes, but now I really want to know what her actual total career sales are. The best we have is 64.5 million from Oricon.

Katsuyuki012 1st February 2017 11:42 AM

Really? When did Oricon state 64.5 records?

Also, she sold 30 million digital copies via Recochoku so she has either 80 million records or 94,5 million records sold.
Just imagine! If her sales aren't 80 million but 94,5 million, she would be the most successful singer in Japan overall.

A LOT
For example. Secret album sold 675,400 in Japan according to Oricon and 900,000 according to avex. And also 2 000 000 at Asia total. I don't know the source of this info, but think it's from the report avex release every year.

It could also be the number of copies avex shipped to stores which doesn't mean that the same amount of people bought Secret.

That's a surprise! But Together when... is one of the best ballads she's made in years, I still enjoy it very much! I am not sure how Oricon can miss so much sales though, what's the point of it if it isn't accurate!

The closest estimate I've seen anywhere online is in wikipedia's list of the best selling artists worldwide. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o..._music_artists estimates Ayumi has sold around 80 million. We know her certified sales in Japan alone topped 50 million in summer of 2012. I just wish we knew exactly what she's sold over her career. I think it would make the yearly sales drops seem far less drastic if we knew that she was selling well digitally, or doing really well internationally. I'd hate to think I've been sitting over here thinking Ayumi isn't all that popular if her albums are still selling 500k globally. :\

50 millipn physical sales + 30 million digital sales (coming from Recochoku) and 500K globally is a bit much...
