Nice! I hope the sales will further increase
|
Not bad at all. And 1k more than Sixxxxxx, if TROUBLE can reach 30k on the first week that would be awesome.
|
For a small album with no pv’s trouble is doing great. I’m excited, praying for 40k!!
|
Honestly, I am not buying those digital sales numbers. If in some chinese digital shop people bought 18k of Trouble and it was days ago, this doesn't convince me. I am happy with the physical sales, though ;- )
|
Quote:
It all depends on how TROUBLE is doing through the week, but 30k in total would already be great altogether. |

Sixxxxxx had those, but A ONE and Made in Japan both were at #4 for their 2nd day. Seeing how successful it was to bundle the concerts with the album in mu-mo versions, I wonder if they're going to do those more often now. xD |
As someone mentioned earlier, I saw a lot of people posting their TROUBLE boxes on Instagram. It made me jealous.
Anyway, at least we know she's earning good money.:P |

I'm surprised that TROUBLE is #2. For an album who only got a month of promo among the fans and some days for the general public that's kinda good I think.
|
Physical sales are going pretty well. :)
|
I'm satisfied with lack of promotion, no MV to promote even one song. Very rush announcement. That's good number, I believe the drop will be steep though on 2nd day
|
Quote:
also I believe the digital numbers are pretty real. last week Hikki was #1 with 2k copies |
I was expecting much less, she's doing great tho!
|
|
Maybe they are counting digital sales only in Japan.
|
Yes, they are. I am just saying that I can't help but be in awe how poor digital market is in Japan.
|
Surprised at TROUBLE 1st day physical CD sales despite the circumstances , let's see how much it will drop in days to come
The supposedly online shop in China that consolidated the purchased copies of TROUBLE online , it's Taobao which's like Ebay Taobao does not have any physical stores in China , unlike 5music Taiwan The baidu thread - http://tieba.baidu.com/p/5826962046 I think the baidu users are buying TROUBLE as much as possible digitally , I don't think it's Taobao doing that cos they're just there to facilitate in helping the users buy the songs ? I don't know though I could be wrong :confused |
Quote:
Which is damn cheap and I doubt avex is selling the whole album for that. It's just strange, would love to know more. But she seems to be more valued in China than in Japan from the comments I've read. |
Hmm I asked him because I was curious myself and he told me that full albums cost 15-30 yuan, so it's the normal price for a mini.
|
Quote:
Frankly I don't know how this Baidu user is doing that cos 8 Yen seems unlikely to buy all the songs in TROUBLE online 8 China Renminbi is more likely but even if so , that's about S$1.60+ / 130 Yen + which's super duper cheap to buy 5 songs digitally o_O |
Quote:
|
In Thailand, TROUBLE is cost at only 3usd or approx.280-300jpy for whole album in iTune
|
MY iTune store @ RM19.50, roughly Yen¥526
|
thanks for the screenshot maxikot! that's interesting

I think digital downloads are not that popular at all. |
Those physical sales are pretty good. I hope this album will have longevity. I need Ayu to break 50k again.
Hikki is the only artist in Japan who can achieve high physical sales and high digital downloads. |
^ You mean that Namie is bad at digital sales? I didn't know that.
If this is slightly higher than sixxxxxx then I am satisfied! But I am wondering why do you guys say that this is surprising that she got this number despite the lack of promo, do you actually think that those 18k were bought by non Ayu fans? lol Out of these 18k copies there must be like at most 1 or 2% bought by the general public. The promo (or the lack of promo) has no impact on Ayu's sales nowadays, the number of fans does. |
^Amuro has high digital sales; at least on Recochoku as far as I know. Hero alone is certified for double platinum (500,000 digital sales).
There is something very odd about how Oricon is doing its digital sales chart. I'm sure Ayu's digital sales are more than 856, but in terms of the Oricon chart, I'm sure that's correct because they always show such low digital sales numbers for people, while other places like RIAJ and Billboard seem to report higher; that might just be my impression though. I haven't actually looked up statistics. |
I was expecting a huge drop from her previous releases. I'm surprised she is between Sixxxxxx and Made in Japan.
|
Maybe RIAJ and Billboard include the online streams, not just downloads? Besides, someone has said that LINE MUSIC is one of the most popular platforms, and apparently it's not included on Oricon?
|
Gosh, just realised how much i've miss the "charts & rankings" threads, it's been a while!
Hope the album will have longevity, so the thread stays alive, cause I don't expect big amount of physical releases coming from ayu these days. |
Sales are looking good! I was thinking worst case scenario she would sell 20k total.
|
To my surprise she has climbed a lot of spots from yesterday on digital stores:
Recochoku general: #5 http://recochoku.jp/ranking/album/daily/ Recochoku hi res: #1 http://recochoku.jp/ranking/hires_album/daily/ Mora: #13 and #21 http://mora.jp/ranking?term=lrank24&genre=all If anyone could provide iTunes position that would be great. |
I actually felt like TROUBLE would sell generally well so I these sales are what I expected. I'm glad it is selling well but I hope that it doesn't send a message to release more albums like TROUBLE.:dead2

Digital sales for albums aren't that good, never were. There are just very few albums certified Gold for 100k of digital sales ever- you can see a list in the RIAJ thread I made in the Asian Music section. Oricon counts all big digital sales platforms (pure digital sales, no streams, just like RIAJ!) iTunes alone is making about 60% of all digital sales in Japan, then there's Recochoku with about 20% if I remember correctly and the rest are others. Ok, saw those numbers last in 2014, but I don't think they have changed that much in terms of distribution. iTunes has probably even risen higher in numbers after that. |
I think Ayu will lost the second position, she sold less than 4.000 copies today and Southern All Stars sold 10.000 copies.
|
|
Number 3 is 4218, I hope she's still on the 4k range for today.
|
Around 20K for 2 days.
|
I hope she sells at least 30k.

I miss her monster million seller...
Kinda sad seeing it now Just saying... #nooffend anyone... I love words its so ayuish... |
I hope she can hit 30k and that's it. at least I guess this pays for another release lol
|
Recochoku general: Up to #4 http://recochoku.jp/ranking/album/daily/
Recochoku hi res: Down to #4 http://recochoku.jp/ranking/hires_album/daily/ Mora: Hi res version up to #11 and regular version down to #31 http://mora.jp/ranking?term=lrank24&genre=all |
I think that's pretty good for a mini album with 2 songs released 1-2 years ago, and promo basically geared to fans. It seemed like she was doing well on streaming too, so I'm happy with this.
|
Tbh, I am really surprised by those sales. For me, this is the most shitty Ayu release ever and I expected a total flop. Don't understany why people are buying this other than because of the name "Ayumi Hamasaki" on it.
|
OMG Ayu, Hikki and Namie next to each other in the charts, probably for the last time.

20k in 2 days, that’s really good!! 40k is in sight!! Praying.

Thanks, Karen!

Good to hear that she is still keeping that 4th place. So now it is sold around 23k.

Physical sales look great! Even if it's not my favorite release, I'm glad it's doing well.
|
I'm happy for her as well with these sales. Good for her, but I hope these nice sales don't give avex any more ideas about releasing 5 track "albums" in the future.
Quote:
I'm wondering which song her Japanese fans like the most on the album. They seem to be liking it overall, but I'm sure there's one track that really sold the album to them. Maybe æternal? |
Quote:
|
I have to say this is better than I was expecting (I tend to think realistically rather than hopefully for sales nowadays!) I wonder if Music Fair helped as her vocals were good and æternal was a lovely performance. If it means future releases get more lives for promotion then yay!
|
I think what helped the most was the box set. The first day sales are substantially better than the rest of the week because it included mu-mo pre-sales.
|
Everyone loves a fancy box set, it's a pity I can't afford.

^ Ohhh thanks, I think I've seen someone say that it doesn't count bc it's owned by avex and always wondered how true that is
Is it true that fanclub shops (for example TeamAyu shop which is technically hosted by mumo) don't count though? |
FC versions don´t count I think. Regular versions purchased through mu-mo FC link do.
|
|
Thanks, Karen. Expecting at least 25k in the first week.

Oricon and Billboard have different sources when it comes to counting.
They overlap somewhere but the major difference is that Oricon goes with major shops, and Billboard counts some minors. (Billboard's main source is from Sound Scan Japan) Billboard stopped disclosing numbers some time ago and that let Oricon become the only "mainstream" ranking reference. Btw, All records shipped to non-Japan addresses do not count towards Oricon. Oricon also established a rule for event sales a few years back, where only a maximum of 3 copies would be counted towards the ranking in 1 single transaction if sold at event booths (such as AKB events). About digital sales, that only includes "digital purchases". Streaming is not a purchase. Since the whole album was streamed before the physical and digital release, it's very understandable that the digital sales didn't do well. I guess they sacrificed the digital sales profit in exchange for the promotion strategy. |
It's so frustrating that Oricon excludes so many types of sales but she's still done a lot better than some of us were expecting (or fearing)
|

TROUBLE up to #1 on Recochoku hi res :luv2 http://recochoku.jp/ranking/hires_album/daily/

◎Billboard JAPAN Top Albums Sales
Billboard sales are usually a bit higher than Oricon even though they count a day less. |
Less than 30k, but still it is good position.

TROUBLE 1st week position/sales on Oricon - #3 ; 24,147
http://tieba.baidu.com/p/5849380272?pn=2 Not bad I expected worst especially since it's such a rushed release but at least TROUBLE sold decently |

^ Thanks Karen. So I am guessing 2.5 k at best on the second week for TROUBLE, with a-nation perhaps 3 k.

I love TROUBLE. I think it's the most Ayu thing we've seen from Ayu since NL/GUILTY, but looking at it from 30,000 feet, I think it would be more meaningful for her to deliver A BEST 3 with 5-7 new songs, re-recorded PVs/songs—like Namie's Finally—than focus on original material right now. Recreate some of those memorable Lumix or Panasonic or BOSS CMs, maybe do a sequel photobook to (miss)understood. Something creative and interesting and nostalgic for fans while still being fresh. And on the plus side, if she finds she's just not that into the whole experience anymore, she can reasonably retire after a release like that and it won't feel as much like we're watching a star burn itself out bit by bit, year over year. |
^well, she won't retire.

I think it is not fair to judge the popularity of ayu music based on the physical album sales. Like me, I haven’t bought the physical albums in the recent years. I only buy music in iTunes.
I have lots of ayu stuff in these 20 years. My flat barely has space to store any more. |
Yesterday I realised that even with this kind of sale numbers, Ayu still in the top 15 of the best solo artist (12rd with A ONE and and 13 with MIJ)
Of course that's normal to compare with her past or with Namie/Hikki etc... but if you look at the japanese market now, solo artist who does very well are not really common. Ayu's results are not good but are "normal", don't make the situation seem worse than it is guys :D Of course I'm disapointed for TROUBLE too and I still hope a futur success. (For exemple when I see Ai Otsuka's sale I feel so sad and angry, her last albums are really good and she's touring a lot, but she keep going her career and project, and that's great) |
|
^
man, I was hoping it would stay in the top 20 for at least two weeks. Fingers crossed that a-nation will give it a nice little boost though! |
It's natural for an artist to decline in sales and popularity. Not everyone is lucky like Namie, and even she didn't always maintain her peak afaik. Also, sales and popularity don't define how good the music is. Besides, trends and peoples' tastes change
|
^Namie had very low sales for that period standarts during the 1st half of the 00's and her sales were declining again. Had she not retired she would be at the same point Ayu is right now in a few years.
Also, people used to say the same shit about Namie they say about Ayu nowadays during her lowest. There's nothing extraordinary happening, really. |
Sometimes I feel that people have a fetish for artists to retire lol
The sales are fine, I'm happy with TROUBLE, but I want new music already >_< |
