I Swedens case I think they(or at least you friend) mean our export of music. It's really high. In that I don't mean artists but song writers, producers e.t.c. I dunno if Sweden is as high as no.2 in the world but it does lie really high on that list.

Swedish ppl write songs for big artist all over the world like KAT-TUN, Namie Amuro e.t.c. And who can't remeber names like Denniz Pop and Max Martin who made songs for Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, Kelly Clarkson, Kate Perry, Pink e.t.c.?

i know that Japan is 2nd largest, but i don't know that it's really close...and maybe someday, Japan can take over number one...

I also can't wait until Japan takes over the US in the top spot, which it seems might happen at this rate. Though I think the most interesting thing about this was seeing the difference between physical and digital sales in each country. I actually thought that the US would be vastly more digital than physical, so it was kind of nice to see it pretty even. Glad Japan is still so focused on physical sales though; I'll forever prefer to actual buy a physical album over an MP3.

Wow, the digital sales in Japan, I thought would be higher. But nice to see physical copies are still dominating.

In terms of amounts of actual tracks sold, the digital market represents many more units in the us than number of physical CDs sold, but this makes hardly any money per track compared to physical releases. That's why japan is closing in on the US and Germany took UK's position on the list mainly. I'm sure the per capita numbers have been going down a lot for the countries where digital sales are almost as important as physcal sales.
