CDL 10-11 DVD thoughts/opinions [YT vids inside ;D]

I actually went to this CDL so im quite interested to her how edited her voice is, and also what a 4-sided stage DVD would look like for Ayus first time.

I'm watching the ballad medley and during the 2nd chorus of Dearest, it just looks SO EPIC. The shots they chose, she looks so goddess like. Her singing so emotionally, her dress slowly blowing with some fan, behind a sea of pink lights, SO EPIC. It certainly made me like this medley a lot more than when I was there, since I hate medleys! I was like DYING when she sang Dearest coz I love that song, and then it was cut short!

They did a pretty good job with B&D, especially with her voice, it sounds better than the AT06 version which I hated, the best ever performance is still CDL05-06, nothing comes close.

Evolution seems pretty routine, just still dislike how her hair is so messy in that segment!! But I love how they use the crane camera that pans from one side of the stage to the other and you can just see Ayu surrounded by her minions of fans with pink glow sticks singing to evolution to energetically. I still get chills and shivers when I hear Ayu do evolution in an arena.

SDW is good too, again hair, so bad!! And doing countdown in middle of a song, yuk!

They do a REALLY good job with keeping the shots with the 4 scaffolds on each corner of the stage to a minimum.

Her voice is edited a lot, you can tell easily if you just compare it... I'm surprised some avid Ayu fan hasnt ripped audio from TV and DVD versions and superimposed on each other to see what it sounds like.

I can't wait to go to CDL again end of this year!! It will be my 3rd CDL :D I went to 07-08 previously.

Really want to see the rest of DVD, especially Love song where I think was the song she sang the worst on the night............. the few lines of the 2nd verse, it hurts my ears when I listen to the TV rip on iTunes :p

The TV version of this CDL was just horrible. The vocals, her hair... Those vids look way better, though

This concert made yoyogi gymnasium seemed larger than her previous arena tours and countdown lives LOL. Love the parts showing the sea of pink lights.. totally different from the other DVDs! A whole new ayu concert experience! Can't wait for my DVD to arrive!

I LOVE IT. I haven't watched the entire thing yet just the youtube videos but it looks really good. I thought the stage would translate bad into dvd but I'm totally wrong it looks great.

I watched the free part of the live stream and didn't think her vocals were as bad as everyone makes the TV version out to be (that wig tho....). Were they from different nights, or was there just a lot more editing for the streaming version (and obviously the DVD ver.) than the TV edit?

I'm so glad that's in the DVD! I was amazed when I actually went to a concert and saw the ~sea of lights; sometimes I'd find myself watching the audience instead of the stage lol.

Yeah, I don't remember thinking her voice was all that bad. It was pretty standard for her lives that are broadcast at the same time as the performance. She's never sounded amazing in them ever since they started doing the live TV broadcasts so I don't really understand why people think 'vocal wizardry' is happening when for the most part it's probably just good mixing and MAYBE the previous night's vocals in some cases that's helping her sound better. I mean there are always several people who go to see her live and say that she sounds amazing... then on TV, it doesn't translate at all. I know that being at the venue changes things slightly, but it shouldn't go from "awesome" to "horrible/under par" just because you're not seeing it live. (I know I've mentioned this before, lol.)

Watching the TV version after the DVD version, I notice that her voice is a lot harder to hear in the TV version. I remember when I watched it back in January, I had to turn my volume up a significant amount... maybe it was due to the HD broadcast?

It feels a bit weird having been around for like seven CDLs+, but overall the comments for TV versions vs. DVD versions are similar across the board. "She sounds terrible!" is usually pretty common, even back in 04-05/05-06.

I love the effect of the particles in the air during the 3/4 body shots in the DVD~ it's really quite pretty. Can't wait for the Blu-ray. I've noticed that Ayu has a bit of an issue with hair selection. Why does she go for the really big bumble bee hair when that really isn't too flattering on her? Why not go for a simple straight look that she looks gorgeous in as opposed to a short platinum blonde wig or a 'hive'? Also, random by related, sometimes during encores for tours she'd have amazing looking hair up until the final 2 days where she wears a hat or fedora and covers it up.... ?????.

The medleys and Marionette/Free & Easy/Endless sorrow are the highlights of this concert imo. Ballad medley = gorgeous and could have used JEWEL or something, but it was fine as is, and the upbeat dance medley near the end was so fun, lol. Ayu should use medleys more often so that a little more variety can be thrown into her tours/CDLs~

My only HUGE gripe with this release is that they decided to include a 2 minute making of digest on the DVD/Blu-ray and have the COMPLETE making of available streaming online if you purchased FIVE... like WTF?

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! I only watched the ballad medley but man, I have to download this. ;_; I remember watching the beginning of the TV live and not liking it at all, but the ballad medley was one of her best concert moments EVER. The camerawork and lighting and stage and everything are so perfect, and it just goes to show that ballads are better left without flailing guys in them. Not gonna watch anything else till I download it in full so I don't spoil anything.

agreed!! also the camera position and angles... the dvd version is way effing better.

besides the hair, love this concert. favs are Duty & Endless Sorrow & the acoustic section.

I really just don't like her huge poof hair lol. I prefer the short wig over that actually. but I don't like both. she looked better with her normal hair that was wet.

kinda irked about the short making of though.

I can tell you she was so bad doing it live... There were a few moments during the concert I screwed up my face because I was not prepared for how bad she was going to be, and 2nd verse of Love song was one of those moments.

Glad they fixed it up, Love song is one of her best songs of all time, and I'm dying for a good live version of it I can spam listen to. Seriously omg Love song, to me it is her modern day A Song for XX. It is a timeless classic, I just can't...

We'll probably get to see an amazing version for POWER of MUSIC's Blu-ray/DVD and HOTEL Love songs'~ [I have hope, lol.]

It's a bit better but still bad... The line "hakoba nai rashii" is still so bad and coarse, I'm really surprised they didn't rerecord it or edit it much more, coz it sounds like they barely did.

They really did make Love song look so epic with the editing.

I think they've been really light on the editing lately, mainly fixing mixing problems and making her voice stand out as it should. (PECO vs. Ayu at CDL09-10 was so awkward.)

Full out vocal replacement doesn't seem like it's been done for the last few years. (Do we even have proof of them doing that?)
