Songs for my friend :)
So, I have a friend I'm going to burn an Ayu CD for. I've burned her a bazillion CDs before, so I already have a pretty good idea of what she likes. She's pretty predictable and likes anything that's rockish or upbeat as long as it's catchy and not sickeningly/embarrassingly cute (like Thank U or HONEY). I already know she likes Startin' and I think (but can't completely remember if) she asked me to put About You on the CD. She's said that she doesn't like Ayu's voice, but I'm pretty sure she's basing it on Ayu's old, squeaky voice, since the only albums she's really familiar with are MY STORY, RAINBOW, and LOVEppears, so I decided to focus on songs from (miss)understood onward because that's when her voice started to get significantly less squeaky. Also, I've decided to use Mirror instead of Mirrorcle World because it's shorter (so there's more room for other songs) and my friend will hate the amazing MW intro and not want to listen to the full song because of it.
Aaanyways, I already have a really solid idea of what songs I'm going to give her. But I figured I would ask you lovely AHSers for any suggestions you may have. :heart I also wanted your opinion on a few songs:

Slt is too cute
My boss, who not a fan, love Last Angel very much From BF and BB I prefer BB. m... not catchy but very emotional L'n'H she need to hear this song =) |
SLT and BF are both very cute... I wouldn't recomend them to someone who hate the kawaii side of jpop...
and rollin' tend to be a win among upbeat music lovers |
Thanks for replying. :)
After thinking about it, I realized she probably doesn't dislike cutesy songs in general, because she loves Gee and OH! by SNSD. Still, I'll leave off Ayu's cutesy songs just to be safe. I also remembered Last angel has that MW-like intro, so I'll have to leave it off after all. ;_; |
^you can cut it =) I adore MW, but don't like the intro... so I cut it and never listen on player
|
I would suggest Marionette western people seem to love that song, my mom and 3 of my friends whom I listen to Ayu music with (me listening them enduring it) have said as soon as Marionette comes on, oh i love this one!
|
I'd put Last Angel on! Maybe tell her in advance to skip the intro. The chorus is sooo catchy! Agree with Marionette too. If she likes About You, how about Microphone, GAME or decision?
Others: Like a doll Sparkle I can't think of anything too similar to Startin' >.< Are you going to put any ballads on? I know you said she likes upbeat/rockish, but lots of people love Ayu for her ballads. Crossroad is a good mid ballad with her newer voice. Mind you, I love her old 'squeaky' ballads so maybe I'm not best to judge!! |
^ Nope, no ballads. I'm burning CDs for her to listen to in the car because she lives a little out of town and has to drive like 90+ minutes a day. She doesn't like listening to ballads in the car because they put her to sleep, so she only wants upbeat songs. :)

cute and upbeat NEXT LEVEL, but not overly cute
|
Did you think about "talkin' 2 myself"? Awesome song, and it isn't cute.:P
There's also "Rule" and "until that Day...". |

If you include the lyrics to Sexy little things, the song might appeal to your friend.
I was thinking of About You when I started reading this. Last angel is a good electro-pop song with a long classical intro, so you might want to re-think this one depending on your friend's taste. BLUE BIRD is fine, but I'd avoid showing Beautiful Fighters to anyone--it's a ghastly song, in my opinion. If you're going to turn to NEXT LEVEL at all, Sparkle and Rule would probably be your best choice, and maybe GREEN and Days if you want ballads. An Ayu fan's gotta know she's got encore songs, so at the end of the CD, I'd put MY ALL or the 10th Anniversary version of Who.... Now, Ladies Night is cutesy, but with all that is going on in the PV, I'd take the chance (and maybe make a small note for the songs that have videos that are worth watching). I'd definitely have her listen to Mirrorcle World. is this LOVE?, my name's WOMEN, Love song, kiss o' kill, alterna. criminal, HEAVEN and Will are all ballads that set different atmospheres, so go with how you feel about ballads in general. You said MY STORY is your favourite album, it's got CAROLS, that is a beautiful song. Despite the aversion some people have towards Ayu's voice, I'd still have her at least listen to RAINBOW. I love LOVEppears, but then there's that little voice again. She sounds pretty good on the song Duty, though. EDIT: No ballads? Ayu's latest Trance album then! |
^ I think she already has a copy of RAINBOW since she's mentioned before that it's the only Japanese music her mom likes. :) I don't think she'd appreciate Ayu's trance albums at all; I get the feeling she'd say they hurt her head or are annoyingly repetitive or something along those lines.
I think I'm going to burn two CDs because there's just waaay too many Ayu songs worth listening to. This way, I can include all the songs I really like and also the ones you guys have suggested that I wouldn't really have put on otherwise. I'm probably going to include Last angel and Mirrorcle World and just cut out the intros. :) She does like ballads, but she's really picky about what she can listen to in the car. For example, she likes Finally by Brave Brothers & U-Kiss, but it's not a slow, super mellow ballad. I can't really think of any Ayu ballads that sound like a really safe bet as far as my friend goes. :x |
UM...
alterna, talkin' 2 myself, 1LOVE are all rock-y to me. I always loved Born to be... I would say fairyland, but that might be too cute. I think Beautiful fighters and BLUE BIRD would be fine. :yes |
alterna
Ladies Night (would this be too cutesy though?) decision Because of You 1LOVE Not Yet sending mail do it again |
I that case I would just use the songs from (miss)understood to Love Songs.
That is; Alterna, Startin', Kiss o' Kill, Love 'n' Hate, Talkin' 2 Myself, Identity, Moon, Love Song, Mirrorcle World, count down, Microphone, Lady Dynamite (?) Or so |
