What made SEASONS so big in Japan?
 

Interesting story! I was Skyping my friend who lives in Japan and she had the radio on and it played SEASONS. We stopped talking and began singing the lyrics then she was all nostalgic and said it brought back sad memories. So I wanted to know what was so special about this song because I felt that it wasn't one of Ayu's best ballads (average quality) but for others it maybe different.

I think it was just the right song at the right time...
wasnt it also attached to a very popular drama at the time?

I think SEASONS is overrated, it's not that good

The lyrics and the timing..2000..new century..easy to sing at ktv..etc

Timing I believe, so now people from that time are also nostalgic. I also don't think the song is overrated and it is one of her better songs, lyrically and instrumentally.

I ALWAYS wondered why they loved it do much.
I despised the song at first, but I opened up to it. It's one of her top 40 songs for me, but not in the top 10, or even top 5.
Even though I like it now, it DOES tend to drag, but I DO sense a nostalgic factor in it...

Honestly, trying to define a hit song is tricky. I don't think SEASONS is a bad one, plus the timing was right, Ayu was young, and it's an easy listen.

i also agree that the song is over rated... its on the bottom of my list when it comes to music by Ayumi...

The song is amazing, it was the ending of a succesful trilogy, the timing was perfect, the lyrics are touching, the melody is catchy, it's karaoke-friendly... That songs is SOOOOO underrated among western fans

Then we get to the chorus. Why does she put SO MUCH stress on some syllables? Oh well...

If you guys say SEASONS is overrated what about Voyage? If something is overrated it's that song, much weaker than SEASONS imo. : o

Because there's sudden jumps to headvoice in Moments, which Ayumi isn't very used to, resulting in a weird, strong stress on those compared to the rest.

Yeah, I wondered too. It's a nice song and I do enjoy listening to it on A Ballads, but not one of my faves.

No, Voyage is 10x better than Seasons... lol

It was just a big song :shrug Came out at the right time when she was actually popular. It's a ballad. Japan loves ballads.

It's a really emotional song too, and a sad song. And they just eat that up. I personally love love the intro that sets the whole tone of the song.


I also don't feel like it's as cheesy as say, Voyage, to contribute to that useless comparison.


And I agree with whoever said it up there, if SEASONS is overrated, then so are all of her other songs.
